The Sephora return policy is famous for being generous and fairly forgiving. In most cases, you'll get a full refund (or store credit) when you return an item within 30 days of purchase. But how much do you know about how the rest of it works?
In general, the Sephora return policy is pretty customer-friendly – but it can be a little hard to wade through the whole thing to find the information you need. That's why we decided to break it down, step by step.
You can return almost any Sephora purchase or gift within 30 days, as long as it's in what Sephora determines to be "new or gently used condition." Most returns are absolutely free (Sephora just can't refund original shipping charges).
To start, you can return items you bought one of two ways: in-store or by mail.
1. Returns by mail
One important thing to note is that Sephora Canada only accepts mail returns for online orders. If you bought an item in-store, you need to return it in-store.
To return something you bought online by mail, follow these three steps:
1. Fill out the return form on the packing slip. Your original package will include a packing slip (with a return form on the bottom). Complete this form and update any contact or shipping information, if necessary.
2. Print your return shipping label. You can download a free return shipping label directly from Sephora's website. Just fill it out, print it and tape it to the front of your box.
3. Ship it! Pack whatever you're returning in the manufacturer's product box and/or Sephora packaging (if you can). Otherwise, pack the item(s) in a padded envelope or box. Attach your return shipping label to the package and mail it back via Canada Post to this address:

Sephora will send you a confirmation email when your return is processed, and you can also track return shipments. Just remember that you only have 30 days to return items by mail. You won't get a refund for any mail returns after this cutoff, and Sephora probably won't return the item(s) to you.
2. In-store returns
Your other option is to return your item(s) to a Sephora Canada store. If you have a location near you, this is probably your best bet. All you need to do is walk into a freestanding Sephora store within 30 days (and bring your order summary, return form and payment details with you), and you should be good to go!
Items bought at a Sephora store need to be returned in person. To do this, bring the item(s) you're returning and your original receipt to a store within 30 days for a full refund or exchange. If you don't have your receipt, try providing your Beauty Insider account number or debit/credit card information. Returns without a receipt (or after 30 days) may only qualify for store credit, not refunds.

Does Sephora monitor returns?
You might have heard rumours that Sephora monitors returns and bans customers who make too many. To clear things up, here's what Sephora says on their website:
"Sephora monitors return activity by customers, from abuse, and if we detect what we consider to be excessive or potentially fraudulent return activity from a customer, that customer may be notified in writing that Sephora will no longer accept any returns from that customer, with or without a receipt."
How long do I have to return something from Sephora?
Technically, you have 30 days from your purchase date to return something you bought from Sephora. If you're mailing in your return, just keep in mind that it can take up to two weeks to process everything. After the 30 days are up, you can usually return items in-person at a Sephora location for store credit.
Can I return a used product?
The Sephora return policy states "Products must be returned in new or gently used condition." This is kind of up to the discretion of whoever processes your order, but it generally means you can try something out a few times and then take it back if it doesn't end up working out for you.
Can I return something I received as a gift?
You sure can! All you need is the original receipt or gift receipt, and you can bring it back for a refund or exchange within 30 days of the original purchase date.
