Amazon Canada: KitchenAid Rotor Slicer/Shredder Attachment Now $39.95

amazon

Amazon Canada has not had this deal for well over a year, thus I am excited to be blogging about it again. Pick up the KitchenAid RVSA Rotor Slicer/Shredder Attachment for Stand Mixers for only $39.95, originally $99.99.

Edit: As per our lovely Moosers' comments; there is a $20 rebate from KitchenAid on this attachment from August 15 – September 26. In the end you would be paying around $20 after rebate!

I conducted a little price comparing. Sears.ca has the Rotor slicer/shredder attachment on sale for $89.99, Hudson's Bay Canada has the rotor for $99.99, London Drugs has the rotor on sale for $84.99, and only Future Shop Canada matches Amazon's price at $39.95. Therefore, if Amazon's price changes suddenly, you can buy it at Future Shop instead. Given that anywhere else you are paying at least double the price for the attachment (except for Future Shop), I figured this is an awesome deal.

The rotor slicer/shredder attachment comes with four blades and the housing, which fits on your stand mixer. It also has a metal core with which you attach the blades. My husband still has not figured out how to mount the shredder properly, but it really isn't rocket science. I use the fine shredder blade the most on cheese for pizza. I do highly recommend using firm cheeses. Moisture content matters when it comes to the quality of your shredding.

I have tried slicing cucumbers and a few other vegetables. For me, the shredder is far better than fishing out the food processor when you only need a small amount of shredding or slicing done. I originally found the blades hard to detach, but the trick is to wrap a dishtowel around your hand, stick your hand in (make a fist in the dishtowel), and then rotate backwards. Of course, you want to make sure the stand mixer is unplugged. It works every time.

My main pet peeve, like other reviewers, is the stuff that is trapped between the housing and the blade. However, like one reviewer pointed out:

Some food did get stuck between the hopper and the blade, but, to be fair, I have also had this problem with other food processors.

That is fair. I have watched my husband use the food processor and he hardly fairs any better.

While I would not pay full price for this attachment, I certainly think it is worth the $39.50 that Amazon and Future Shop are asking, especially after the $20 rebate. It is used often in my household.

Don't have a stand mixer? Amazon Canada has this KitchenAid KSM75SL Classic Stand Mixer on sale for $199.99, down from $399.99!

I got this from Amazon a few months ago and used this tonight too. It's true. A lot gets stuck and I hate waste! It still works well and I just put it all in the dishwasher! There was a rebate for $20 a few months ago for this attachment and I just got the cheque. What a bargain for me,
