Abe Books is one of the really popular places to track down hard to find, out of print, rare edition, rare cover, or other used and new books. I have shopped there many times for textbooks and then again to add to my own book collection. I have also purchased gifts for others from Abe Books just because their price was the best. For a friend of mine's birthday last year I purchased The Complete History of Middle Earth, which is a very expensive set to buy new. Even now you could get the complete set for about $125 US before coupon, which is a good deal for it.
Abe Books is a compendium of books from other sellers. Thus, shipping is per book and listed under the price of each book. If you are looking for cheaper books, it is worth looking at an individual seller's inventory that interests you so you can combine shipping if they offer it. I found AbeBooks best for textbooks or large collections like the above one. It is a month away from university starting up again, and most book lists have been released. Do not wait until the last minute to purchase your textbooks. Many textbooks cost a couple hundred dollars and you can save a good chunk of money by using aggregates like Abe to buy cheaper. Sometimes you can find even the cheaper textbooks or novels for a couple dollars on Abe plus shipping. In the past, it has worked out to far cheaper than the bookstore.
I am indulging in my Neil Gaiman obsession lately by buying up his novels and piling them on to my read list. However, I would love to have a signed copy of one of his books. I found several signed copies to choose from at Abebooks including The Graveyard Book for $30 + $6 shipping. After coupon code, the book comes down to $27. I really enjoyed reading that book and I would like to have a signed copy of it. There are also signed copies of Anansi Boys available.
