Chapters Indigo Canada: 2 for $10 Illustrated Biographies

Chapters Indigo has a great sale on right that will save you on some reading material.  Get any two illustrated biographies for just $10.

There are 72 different titles to choose from and all of them are illustrated to help kids learn about famous people.

The regular price of these books are between $5.99 each to $6.99 each.  Depending on which ones you choose for this deal, you will be getting between $1.98 off to $3.98 off for every 2 books purchased. Not a bad deal at all.

You will see biographies on people still living such as Michelle Obama and Bill Gates, to important people from the past like Albert Einstein and Anne Oakley.

My boys are obsessed with Disney movies so they would love to learn about Walt Disney through this Who Was Walt Disney? book. I am a huge Elvis fan so I would also get this Who Was Elvis Presley? book.

They even have a Who Is Dolly Parton? book!  Now this one you most likely would need for an actual school project but the country singer lovers out there would be a fan maybe!

If you want to add some of these to an Easter basket, you can get next day delivery.

You will get free shipping when your order reaches $25 or more at the checkout.

Chapters Indigo Canada: The Spark Only $15

Posted by on April 15, 2014 at 7:00 AM

Chapters Indigo Canada: The Spark Only $15

Chapters Indigo has the book The Spark on sale for Monday and Tuesday only for only $14.25, regularly $29.95. Amazon will often beat Chapters Indigo’s price, but this time, they don’t, as they are selling it for $18.77.

I have heard from multiple people that this book is an absolutely amazing story and a must-read, which is why I am taking the time to blog this for you. I haven’t yet had time to read it, but I may be getting it during this sale to read on a flight I’ll be taking soon.

The story is a mother’s tale about a son with Autism and his and her journey through it all. While others only saw the autism, this mother of course, saw the beauty and spark in her son and knew he could go further than others predicted. At age 14 and now studying quantum physics.

With a son who has a label and people only seeing that label, this book is crying out for me to read it. I think it will be an inspiring and encouraging story for any mother to read.

There are several reviews on Chapter Indigo’s site and they are sing the praises of this story as being amazing and a “triumph of the human spirit”.

You’ll need to spend $25 to get free shipping, so I might suggest the other deals of the week, as a number of them are on books and are great deals too!

SCENE Rewards Freebie: 250 Free Points With Purchase Of Select Books From Chapters Indigo

SCENE Rewards Freebie: 250 Free Points With Purchase Of Select Books From Chapters Indigo

Are you a book and movie lover? Then use both of these hobbies to your advantage by getting an awesome freebie from Scene Rewards! With purchase of a select title from Chapters Indigo, you can earn yourself 250 free Scene points!

I absolutely love Scene Rewards. Although I haven’t had the chance to go in a while, I used to go to the movies every Tuesday to take advantage of the cheapie Tuesday deal (50% off the ticket) and to get 120 scene points (100 for viewing the movie and 20 for buying the ticket online). The best part about all this is that within a short time frame, I would have enough points (1,000) for a free movie, which I would make sure to redeem on a week-end and for one in either IMAX, UltraAVX or 3D.

The current featured list of books is inspired by a “read the book; see the movie” kind of theme and is ongoing until the end of the month of April. With 30 books to choose from in total, here are just some of the books that stood out to me:

Keep in mind that all the prices listed above are those that Chapters automatically offers to Plum Rewards members, a free program that awards points and lower prices on all books.

Once the book has been purchased, you will then receive an e-mail with a special PIN code to enter at Scene’s Indigo page. Plus, you can get as many books as you want for even more points! Just don’t forget that it takes 1,000 points for a free movie, although you can also use them on a variety of other rewards as well, such as free snacks, DVDs, Blu-Rays etc.

As usual, shipping is also free on all orders over $25.

Book Outlet: 50% Off 50 Kid’s Fiction Books

Book Outlet: 50% Off 50 Kids Fiction Books

Book Outlet Canada has just restocked their 50/50 section with kid’s fiction for ages zero through six. Get an extra 50% off the already discounted price on these books.

The Tickle Tree looks like such a beautifully illustrated book that I just want to buy it based on its cover. The book retails for $9.95, but is just $2.49 during this sale. I checked out review of the book on Amazon.ca and one reviewer mentioned:

It is a beautiful book. Draws you into each scene. The drawings are exciting but at the same time give a comforting-ready-for-bed type of feeling. There are also a lot of things to look at and find on its pages, which my daughter loves to do.

There are other books, classic books, that I am totally familiar with. Hey Diddle Diddle was a childhood favourite of mine. Originally $7.99, the book is now on sale for $1.99. Some of you might also recognize Cinderella which is on sale for $1.99 (was $9.99) as well as Goldilocks and the Three Bears which only costs $1.49 (was $5.99).

The cost of shipping is $3.99 and an additional $0.75 per item.

Additionally, use one of our exclusive Book Outlet coupon codes to save another $5 to $20 on your entire order.

My Story Doctor: Get David Farland’s NaNoWriMi Inspirations eBook Full of Writing Tips for Free!

Posted by on April 4, 2014 at 5:30 PM

My Story Doctor: Get David Farlands NaNoWriMi Inspirations eBook Full of Writing Tips for Free!

Let a pro keep you motivated while you NaNoWriMo or any time!

Depending on if you are a Sci Fi person or a Fantasy person you may know David Farland also as Dave Wolverton. He goes by both depending on what genre he is writing. For this book he’s using Farland.

So who is this guy? Well, he’s best know in the writing world for his Runelord series but he has written a lot of books all of which you can read about on The Book of Knowledge, Wikipedia. I’ve never read any of his books but on of my favourite authors, Brandon Sanderson, took a writing course from Farland and said that that one course was more important to his writing career than everything else he did on his way to a Master’s Degree in English. Sanderson writes my favourite books and if Farland made him in to the writer he is today, well, I’m all in.

Farland offers online and in-person writing workshops via MyStoryDoctor but for the people who can’t get to Utah or don’t want to lay down the hundreds of dollars to get some help from him, you can get a copy of his NaNoWriMo Inspirations book. It sells for $2.99 but if you sign up to the My Story Doctor website, you can get it in ePub or Kindle format for free. Just sign up, sign in and click on the Free Stuff link up at the top to download it.

The book is meant to give you a new lesson each day of NaNoWriMo to keep you writing. NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month and it takes place in November each year. Basically you take a month and write a full novel. Farland’s lessons for the first four days of NaNoWriMo are:

  • Day 1: Be Your Own Inspiration
  • Day 2: Staying Motivated
  • Day 3: Plotting a Story
  • Day 4: Thinking About Your Setting

(Expires: Never but free book may change)

Book Outlet Canada: 50/50 Section Shakeup

Posted by on April 3, 2014 at 12:30 PM

Book Outlet Canada: 50/50 Section Shakeup

Book Outlet has a 50/50 section where you will find 50 great books on sale at an additional 50% off.  It lasts for two weeks at a time and the books usually have some sort of theme.  This time is  bit different.  They still have 50 items on for 50% off but this time it is a variety of titles and items to choose from without a set theme.

One of the big shakeups for this section this time around is that they are offering books, box sets and activity kits all at an additional 50% off.  Usually it is just books.  Looking through I have already started a wish list for Mother’s Day to give to my husband.

Here are a few on my wish list:

There are also some great kids books included this time that would be a nice addition to their Easter baskets.  Easter is 2 weeks away now and Book Outlet ships fairly fast.  You would still have time to grab  few items for the little ones instead of just loading their baskets full of chocolate.

The cost of shipping is $3.99 and an additional $0.75 per item.

Additionally, use one of our exclusive Book Outlet coupon codes to save another $5 to $20 on your entire order.

Chapters Indigo Canada: Lena Dunham’s Book Only $14

Chapters Indigo Canada: Lena Dunhams Book Only $14

If you love the show Girls, you are not alone, that is an amazing show! If you haven’t seen it, seriously, go out and find a way to download it or buy it, but watch it! If watching television is not your thing, you could still get Lena Dunham’s book, because Chapters Indigo has it on pre-order for the best price around.

As a Girls fan and a book fan, I can’t wait to read Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s Learned. Lena Dunham is hilarious, witty and very insightful. The book sounds like the type of book she is actually writing in the show, which also sounds like a riot. Hailed as today’s Nora Ephron, you know that Lena Dunham will have huge staying power throughout her career.

Why she wants you to read it:

If I can take what I’ve learned in this life and make one treacherous relationship or degrading job easier for you, perhaps even prevent you from becoming temporarily vegan, then every misstep of mine will have been worthwhile.

Normally, Amazon has the cheapest prices on books, even with the Chapters sales. This time, they don’t. They are selling it for $20.06, was $32. Chapters Indigo has it for $14.25. Here’s the thing though – the books isn’t being released until October, but in October once the hype is up, you’ll be paying the full $32 for it, or close to it. Order it now and be happily surprised when it shows up in the mail.

You’ll need to spend a bit more to get to the $25 threshold for free shipping.

Amazon Canada: Hunger Games Trilogy just $25.08 & Free Shipping (was $40)

Posted by on March 20, 2014 at 5:30 PM

Amazon Canada: Hunger Games Trilogy just $25.08 & Free Shipping (was $40)

If you are one of the many people that fell in love with the Hunger Games movies but still haven’t read the books, you are in luck.  You can get the entire Hunger Games Trilogy for 37% off the regular price right now over at Amazon Canada.

The Hunger Games trilogy was $40 and is now just $25.08.  That is 37% off the regular price which is a pretty great deal for something so popular right now.

This trilogy includes: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay.  At the low price of $25.08, it works out to just about $8 a book and you also get the box set to hold them all. There are a lot of the set left but I suspect at this price, they may go pretty quick.

Just to make sure this was the best deal out there I did some price comparison. I found it at Chapters Indigo Canada on sale for $30, I also found it at Walmart Canada for $41.98 and they were already out of stock at that price.

I have to confess, I have watched both the first and the second movie but I have yet to actually read the series.  My goal is to read the series before the next movie comes out.

This Hunger Games trilogy will get free shipping which is an added bonus.

Book Outlet Canada: 50% Off Fiction

Book Outlet Canada: 50% Off Fiction

Get 50% off fiction books at Book Outlet this week. I see some great titles that I’d love to sink my teeth into, so I may just have to shop this sale today.

As usual, Book Outlet will have a weekly (or every two weeks) sale with 50% off some genre or category. This week it is fiction, which is a pretty broad category. This means you might have to spend a few minutes looking over the large selection to find your next great read. I know exactly what mine will be.

Ever since The Imposter Bride was nominated for the Giller Prize, I have wanted to read it. It spans different generations and tells the story of a mail-order bride and sounds absolutely mesmerizing. Was $24.99, now $3.99.

Moll Flanders is a classic that looks juicy and delicious and is now second on my to-read list. Was $9.95, now $1.49.

I’ve ordered from Book Outlet before and was very happy to get my purchase, which came super quick. While the books are a good deal and the shipping sounds not too bad, it can add up if you order a number of books, as I did. Just factor that in when you order. Shipping is a flat rate of $3.99 plus $0.75 for each book.

Chapters Indigo Canada: 50% Off Select Walking Dead Books

Chapters Indigo Canada: 50% Off Select Walking Dead Books

Last night my entire Facebook feed was filled with statuses like “oh no” and “snap” and other crazy comments from Walking Dead fans who were watching the show. While I’ve never seen the show, I hear I’m totally missing out. If you are a fan, you might appreciate this sale with 50% off select Walking Dead books.

There are actually only three books available in this sale, but I priced compared them all and they are the best deal at Chapters Indigo. The first one is the Walking Dead Compendium Volume 1. With over 1000 pages, it is comprised of the first eight volumes of the series. It was $62.95, now $29.90. Compare it at $39.46 at Amazon.

The other two books on sale are the Walking Dead Volume 19 TP: March to War and Volume 20: All Out War Part 1. Both books sound very creepy and exciting for those who love the undead stories. The first was $15.95, now $7.57 ($11.51 at Amazon). The second book is $7.17, was $15.95 (also $7.17 at Amazon). While you might get the same deal on the volume 20 book, you won’t get free shipping unless you spend over $25 at Amazon. I suggest you get the Compendium, and then add the other two books to your cart and everything will ship free from Chapters. Shipping from Chapters is also free when you spend over $25.

Book Outlet Canada: Extra 50% Off 50 Stationary Items

Book Outlet Canada: Extra 50% Off 50 Stationary Items

Book Outlet Canada has the perfect extra sale for planners and organizers. Get an extra 50% off fifty stationary themed items at Book Outlet Canada.

The sale includes photo-albums, journals, diaries, bookmark packs, memo cubes, scrapbook kits, and much more.

I am not much for journal-ling or keeping a diary but I am always making Shopping Plans. I am an avid shopper which is not to say I buy a lot (which at times I do) but it is to say I plan a lot and buy strategically. This book includes a tear-off pad and a pocket for filing filled-in cards, and is purported to be the “perfect accessory for the keen shopper.” My ears are perked! Each card has space to write down the clothes, shoes, lingerie, and accessories you’re looking for. Instead of keeping such lists in my head (or on Amazon wishlist) I would love to have this book. Originally the book retailed for $16.95, and it is now on sale for just $1.99.

I have never been into scrap-booking but so many people are and I am jealous of how nice it makes their albums look. This Little All-Star Scrapbook Memory Kit is the perfect accessory kit (200 pieces) to decorate up your child’s memory books. Originally $24.95, it is now on sale for $4.99. While it says the kit is for little boys, I think the kit would be a great gift for anyone who is into sports whether that be little girls or even big boys.

Pay $3.99 base shipping and $0.75 for each book.

Book Outlet: Extra 50% off 50 Scratch & Dent Titles

If you can handle books with a little extra wear, than this sale is for you. Book Outlet Canada is offering an extra 50% off fifty already drastically reduced scratch and dent titles.

There are some pretty wicked books in this section. Immediately my eyes fell upon the icon Gaga. This book explores Gaga’s history and rise to fame, her music and videos, and her unique look and nature. Originally $24.95, this hardcover book is now on sale for $2.49.

You do not have to be dark and morbid to love skulls: and whether I am either of the first or second things, I most definitely like the third. The book Skulls explores over 300 different animal skulls complete with stunning photography. Originally $29.95, the book is now on sale for $4.99.

Here is a special treat for any fans of a certain ‘lets kill off a lot of the main characters’ show on HBO. Pick up a copy of Inside HBO’s Game of Thrones that regularly retails for $40, for only $7.49 during this sale. The book includes hundreds of set photos, production notes, and more. Drooling yet?

Pay $3.99 base shipping and $0.75 for each book.

Chapters Indigo Canada: 35% Off Dr. Seuss Books

Chapters Indigo Canada: 35% Off Dr. Seuss Books

I believe Dr. Seuss has a birthday around now, and this could be why there is this great sale with up to 35% off Dr. Seuss books at Chapters Indigo.

My kids, along with many, many other kids in the world, love Dr. Seuss. I think The Lorax is my most favourite story, but there are quite a few other ones that really touch me. When my middle son was about one, he didn’t have a teddy bear, or a binky or a blue blanket. Instead he had four Dr. Seuss board books that he would sleep with and carry around. He loved those books and wouldn’t sleep without them and in fact, he slept on top of them every night for at least a year. He’s moved on from that stage, but he still loves to read the stories, and they are such great books for him to read as an early reader. With lots of rhyming and short words, early readers have an easier time reading the stories, plus they are fun.

Some of our favourites include:

As always, shipping is free on a $25 or more purchase.

Book Outlet Canada: Extra 50% off 50 Bucket List Books

Get an extra 50% off fifty books that should be on your reading bucket list!

I am delighted with the mix of classics and contemporary reads on this list. I have actually read a bunch of these which is wicked cool! I highly recommend The Magician’s Nephew (Chronicles of Narnia, Bk. 1) which retails for $17.99 (in hardcover) and is now just $3.99. I am actually taking a C.S. Lewis and the Bible class at university right now and we will be reading that book in a few short weeks.

I have never read the book, but when I was a child we had a VHS recorded tape of the made for TV movie of The Mouse And The Motorcycle. I use to watch it all the time when I was sick and I really should read the book. Originally $5.99, the books is now just $1.74.

Now, a book I have only heard about and never read: The Phantom Tollbooth. This book is totally on my bucket list of must reads! I have heard such good things about it but have just never got my hands on a copy. I really have no excuse now because the book is on sale from $19.95 down to $3.99 (for the hardcover).

Pay $3.99 base shipping and $0.75 for each book.
