7 Easter Basket Essentials That Your Kids Will Love

Easter baskets are a tradition around our house and the kids have grown to love them on Easter morning as much as they do their stockings on Christmas. The element of surprise is key, but it can be hard to think up new stuffers year after year. To make it simple on myself I stick to a standard mix of goodies that repeat every year. I just switch up the colour scheme and general theme and make sure to choose age-appropriate items as the kids grow. Here are the seven items in my essential Easter basket mix:

  1. The Basket: This year I'm all about this sweet little lambbecause enough with the bunnies already. Plus, who can resist that face?
  2. Chocolate: Obviously. Again I'm breaking from bunnies because this cool Cadbury chick is clearly where it's at.
  3. A Book: Full disclosure, I include this item to make me feel like I'm being a responsible parent and offering something more substantial than toys and sweets. Luckily my kids love books and anything by Beatrix Potteris an Easter classic.
  4. Something Useful: Since you're shelling out for prezzies anyway, why not include an item or two that they really need? A fancy umbrellais something they'll love and use. Win-win.
  5. A Stuffie: No basket is complete without something to cuddle. Beanie Boosare the on-trend choice around my house right now and this purple fella is in keeping with my lamb-theme.
  6. More Candy: Because you want the kids to love you. Marshmallow Peepsare an Easter tradition for our friends south of the border but can be tricky to find in Canada. I've had luck at Shoppers Drug Martand Walmartin the past.
  7. A Surprise Pack: My kids are completely bonkers for surprise bags and especially Shopkins. These eggs are going to upstage anything the bunny might hide.

What's going in your kids' Easter baskets this year—do you have any suggestions I can add into the mix?
