My nephew loves building some sort of knex ferris wheel, it’s pretty cool. I usually have to google for “how to make knex xxx” before I can manage to construct anything though! I really love these construction type “boys toys.” My other nephew has a magnetix set – that’s another particular favorite. Another thing that’s great about K’Nex, Lego, Magnetix, Meccano etc – you can just keep buying them bits and pieces, and you know it will be a good pressie.
