Mobilicity: Holiday Plan - $29/m Unlimited
Sure you can save money on the odd gift or household item, but it is better to save money on everyday expenses. Enter the new holiday plan by cell provider Mobilicity: receive unlimited Canada-wide talk and text as well as North American long distance for only $29 per month.
Mobilicity had this offer back in August for back to school, so if you missed it then this is your opportunity to take advantage of it now. The offer is valid for available new activations only. Your plan will include unlimited of the following:
- Canada-Wide Talk
- North American Long Distance
- Global Text
- 30 Minutes North American Voice Roaming
- Voicemail, Caller ID and Call Features
Now, after pouring over the fine print because that is where all the land mines in an agreement will be, I discovered this plan has to be on an automatic monthly payment authorization for you to get the $29 a month rate (regularly $45). If you want a monthly rate with no contract, they jack the price up to $40 a month (stupidly ridiculous in my opinion). That is still $5 off the plan's usual $45 per month retail cost, but I find it a crappy ploy to get people to sign contracts.
They also have this little fine print bit about how "all unlimited features included in each plan/add-on, including unlimited talk, text and data features, must originate and be used within the Mobilicity Unlimited Zones". To clarify what unlimited zones are, I have copied the following excerpt:
According to their website:
Mobilicity offers unlimited coverage within our 5 unlimited coverage areas in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. In addition to our unlimited coverage areas, we also offer nationwide coverage, covering up to 95% of the Canadian population.
Therefore, unless you live and plan to stay within those five cities for the majority of your cell use, this plan may not be worth it. However, if you do live in one of these cities - you may just have found the ticket to reducing your cell phone bill by 1/3rd, which is no small amount when you add it up each month.
I have never tried Mobilicity before, have you? If so, then leave us a comment letting us know what you think of their service.
