IKEA Malm Dresser Recalled After Several Child Deaths

Back in April, we had talked to you guys about IKEA issuing a warning regarding their IKEA Malm Furniture. I know I was definitely flabbergasted that after 3 children deaths, these dressers had not been officially recalled. Well - now Ikea Canada has issued a recall on their Malm Furniture instead of just advising their customers to make proper use of the harness systems.

IKEA.ca has announced this recall on their Canadian website. We all know that the Malm Dresser is one of this Swedish furniture giant's most popular buys. Now, Ikea promised to only sell chests of drawers that will meet the voluntary North American ASTM standard. The recall issued will call for a repair or refund on chests of drawers that do not meet the standard.

Last year, Ikea had issued a "repair kit" that would allow the owners of the Malm Furniture to secure the dresser to the wall. This would prevent the dresser from tipping over onto a child. Now, further action is called for.

A total of six children were killed when these dressers tipped over onto them since 1989. There have been a whopping thirty-six children injured. Something had to be done!

We can expect to see this recall listed on Ikea Canada's website in the near future.
