Gripe Water Brands Recalled Across Canada

If you or anyone you know buys gripe water, you should check the package. Different brands are being recalled across Canada after test showed the potential for microbial contamination.

Gripe water is essentially marketed as an antacid for babies and is used to to treat upset stomachs. RW Consumer Products Ltd., a company that produces gripe water, is voluntarily recalling all lots labelled "Gripe Water – Alcohol And Preservative Free" after company tests showed contamination.

The recall applies to all these brands: Atoma, Baby's Choice, Be Better, Equate, Life Brand, Personnelle, Pharmasave, Teddy's Choice and Western Family. If you have any of these at home, stop administering them to your children immediately and return any unused products to wherever you bought them.

Microbial contamination can increase the risk of infections, especially in infants, since their immune systems are still developing. Symptoms of a microbial infection in infants can include vomiting, watery diarrhea, fever and abdominal pain. If you've used gripe water and have concerns about your baby's health, contact your pediatrician right away. You can also report any adverse reactions to Health Canada.
