From the looks of it, you will need to have an old-style VCR on which to actually play the tapes, during the conversion process. If you only have the tapes and not the actual VCR, then you’d need to maybe find out if any friends or family have a VCR which you could use this with.

For me, I’ve got a VHS tape here which is around 30 years old. It contains some old, grainy footage of me when I was around 4 years old, and my little sister, playing in our yard. It’s the only tape I have of myself when I was young. I haven’t watched it in a few years because we don’t actually have a VCR any more! As with most 'gadget' items from daily deal websites, the normal price for these devices from sellers on eBay are cheaper, complete with free shipping.

  Thanks for the idea - I've wanted to convert VHS, but always found the software to pricey. I did a bit of research (the logo on the photo shows that the make is EasyCap), and commenters who bought it from another source had mixed reviews with the loudest comment being this may not work on Macs, or Windows 8 ...but I'm not sure how to confirm that before ordering. @Rodney, I just looked on ebay, and this item cost $10 to ship to Canada

Hey guys! Yes Jo, I think you're right. All the ebay sellers seem to be out of Canada with high shipping too, I didn't delve deep, I just hit up the first page of results and that seemed to be the case in general. Rodney - in any case, we usually post deals here on Bargainmoose from recognised retailers, not eBay sellers - you cannot really compare buying something from a Canadian store with a guarantee and return policy (etc) to buying from an eBay seller, it's kind of a different kettle of fish.
