Crock-Pot Meals For Kids

Hectic mealtimes with kids hanging off of you, clamouring for their supper can be a thing of the past! Forget the Chicken Nuggets and Fries! We have some delicious Slow Cooker Meal Ideas that the kids will love. They are really easy to make and can cook away without you having to stand over the stove. Grab a Family Sized Crock-Pot here*.

You may want to grab a kitchen scale here* if you don't have one, since some of the ingredients in these recipes are measured by weight, which can be more accurate than using measuring cups and spoons. In fact, when trying to monitor portion sizes for all types of food, using a kitchen scale is one of the best tools!

Spaghetti Carbonara

Ingredients

  • 1kg Chicken Breast (Diced)
  • 300g Bacon Lardons
  • 400g Mushrooms (Sliced)
  • 1 Brown Onion (Diced)
  • 2 teaspoons Garlic Puree
  • 2 tins Condensed Cream of Chicken Soup
  • 750ml Double Cream
  • 1 Chicken Stock Cube
  • 500g Spaghetti

Method

  • Brown the Chicken in a frying pan with some Cooking Spray.
  • Put all of the ingredients, except the Spaghetti, into the Slow Cooker, including the Chicken and mix well.
  • Cook on low for 4 hours.
  • Add in the Spaghetti and stir gently.
  • Cook on high for further 1.5 hours.

Cottage Pie

Ingredients

  • 500g Beef Steak Mince
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
  • Regular sized tin Chopped Tomatoes
  • 1 Carrot (Diced)
  • 1 Brown Onion (Diced)
  • 1 Celery Stick (Sliced)
  • 1 tablespoon Tomato Ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Beef Gravy Granules
  • 4 Large Potatoes
  • 200ml Milk
  • 1 tablespoon Salted Butter
  • Handful Grated Cheese

Method

  • Fry the Mince, Onion, Celery and Carrot in Olive Oil until the Mince is browned and the veg is soft.
  • Throw the Mince/Veg Mixture, plus the Chopped Tomatoes, Tomato Ketchup, Worcestershire Sauce and Gravy Granules into the Slow Cooker and cook on high for four hours.
  • Cut the Potatoes into cubes and boil until soft.
  • Add Milk and Butter then mash.
  • Discard of any excess liquid on top of the mince.
  • Dollop on the Mash and top with the Grated Cheese.
  • Cook for an hour or until the cheese is melted.

Sausage Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 8 Beef or Pork Sausages
  • 3 Brown Onions (Sliced)
  • 2 tablespoon Plain Flour
  • 500ml Beef Stock (or Ham)
  • 3 tablespoon Sandwich Pickle
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • Black Pepper for seasoning

Method

  • Brown the Sausages and Onions in a frying pan then put the Sausages only into the Slow Cooker.
  • Add the Flour into the onions and cook for 1 minute.
  • Gradually add in the Stock and lift all the flour from the bottom of the pan.
  • Bring to the Boil and remove once the Stock mix is thickened.
  • Add everything into the Slow Cooker, including the Chutney, Worcestershire Sauce and Pepper.
  • Cook on low for 5-8 hours.

Macaroni Cheese

Ingredients

  • Cooking spray
  • 225g Macaroni
  • 350ml Evaporated Milk
  • 150ml Whole Milk
  • 100g Salted Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 Large Eggs (Whisked)
  • 300g Extra Mature Cheddar
  • Black Pepper for Seasoning

Method

  • Spray the inside of the Slow Cooker with Cooking Spray.
  • Add in all the Ingredients, apart from a little Cheese (this will be added on top) and stir well.
  • Cook on low for 3 hours.
  • Sprinkle the remaining Grated Cheese on top and cook for a further 30 mins.

Lentil Soup

Ingredients

  • 1400ml Water
  • 2 tablespoons Dried Parsley
  • 2 Ham Stock Cubes
  • 500g Red Lentils
  • 2 Carrots (Sliced)
  • 1 Brown Onion (Chopped)
  • 2 sticks Celery (Sliced)

Method

  • Put all ingredients in the Slow Cooker and mix well.
  • Cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 4 hours.

Chicken Fajita

Ingredients

  • 450g Skinless Chicken Breasts (Cut into Chunks)
  • 1 Large Onion (Sliced)
  • 1 Large Red Pepper (Cut into Strips)
  • 1 Large Green Pepper (Cut Strips)
  • 1 Can Chopped Tomatoes
  • 1 Packet of Taco Seasoning

Method

  • Put the Chicken Chunks into the bottom of the Slow Cooker and sprinkle with the Taco Seasoning.
  • Chuck everything else in and cook on low for 7 hours.
  • Get two forks and shred the Chicken.

Toad in the Hole

Ingredients

  • 6 Beef or Pork Sausages
  • Batter Mix
  • A Large Egg
  • Water
  • teaspoon Baking Powder

Method

  • Make up the Batter Mix with accordance to the packet instructions.
  • Whisk really well and sprinkle in the Baking Powder.
  • Brown the Sausages in a Frying Pan then put at the bottom of the Slow Cooker.
  • Pour on the Batter and cook on high for 2 and a half hours.

Tuna Potato Bake

Ingredients

  • 500g New Potatoes (Sliced)
  • 1 packet White Sauce Mix
  • 300ml Whole Milk
  • 2 tins of Tuna in Brine
  • 195g tin Sweetcorn (the one with Peppers is nice too)
  • 1 tablespoon Dried Parsley
  • 75g Grated Cheese

Method

  • Boil the Potatoes until soft.
  • Make the sauce according to instructions on the pack.
  • Stir in the tuna, sweetcorn and parsley.
  • Place the potatoes neatly at the bottom of the Slow Cooker and pour on the Sauce.
  • Cook on medium for 3 hours.
  • Sprinkle the Cheese on the top and cook for another 30 minutes.
