DIY: Solo Cup Workout!!


Gym memberships can be so expensive, and here at Bargainmoose we love to find inexpensive, fun and convenient solutions for everything. I stumbled upon this Solo Cup Workout on the world wide web and I think you Moosers will love it. Kick the cost of your gym membership to the curb and have a fun workout plan right in your very own home. If getting more fit or losing weight was your New Year resolution, then you're going to love this. You can set your Solo Cup Workout plan right on your desk or counter at home as a constant reminder to do your daily exercise. Doing your work out at home is also more time efficient as well. Parents, you won't have to coordinate a babysitter to get some fitness time. This little workout tool is super frugal and easy to make as well. You could even so something similar for chores for the kids.

Here is what you're going to need to make your own Solo Cup Workout:

  • popsicle sticks
  • two solo cups
  • different coloured permanent markers

You can write different exercises on each popsicle stick. My best suggestion is that you colour code the exercises for each area of your body that you are working on. You can even find the multi colour craft sticks at most dollar stores and then just use a black Sharpie. Then you can label your two cups. Write "Get Off Your Butt" on one cup, and "Done" on the other. Place all of the popsicle sticks with writing in one of the Solo cups marked "Get Off Your Butt" or something motivational along those lines. Make it a a task to tackle 5 popsicle stick exercises each day. Once you have used all of the popsicle sticks from one cup, dump them all back from the Done cup into the Get Off Your Butt cup.

Here is an example you can use for colour coding the exercises per muscle group:

Blue - Abdominal
Green - Arms, Biceps, Triceps
Red - Legs, Glutes, Hamstrings
Pink - Cardio
Yellow - Upper and Lower Back

You can have as many different popsicle stick exercises as you like. Each day pick one of each colour to keep it even. There are so many different things you can put in your "Get Off Your Butt" cup, so aim them towards your goals and make them activities that won't over exert yourself. Here are a few examples of what you can put in your Solo Cup Workout Plan:

  • 25 Jumping Jacls
  • 50 Stair Climbs
  • 20 Push Ups
  • 20 Abdominal Crunches
  • 20 Side Bend Abdominals
  • 20 Glute Kickbacks
  • 20 Jump Squats
  • 25 Single Leg Squats
  • 5 Wall Sits (for as long as you can hold it)
  • 3 Plans (for as long as you can hold it)
  • 1 Minute Jog on the Spot
  • 20 Leg Raises

This Solo Cup Workout can be used as your main workout plan or even as a supplement to your current workout schedule. Just be sure to include exercises from all muscle groups. Google will be great for helping you find different activities and exercises that are meant for you. This is a fun way to incorporate daily exercise into your routine, and it won't always be the same old boring work out. I am going to start this today and I hope it goes well. I said at the beginning of the summer that I wanted a summer body, but I have not had time to get to a gym or anything so I am glad I found this solution. These activities are simple enough to do while you watch your favourite TV show. Actually I think it would be harder to stick to daily if you don't have music or a TV show going in the back ground to be honest. If you watch Judge Judy everyday at 7, then I suggest you add this Red Solo Cup Workout routine to that plan as well. It won't take long for your body to adjust to the new routine and it will become a habit. You can also change up the popsicle stick work outs every few weeks to increase the number of jumping jacks or squats. There is always room for improvement right? And nobody wants to get bored of their workout routine, that's no fun.

If you have exercise equipment at home then you can further improve your Solo Cup Workout Plan by including your treadmill or weights. Cardio is so important and the treadmill is a great way to work on your cardio. I can even read a book or check out my Facebook news feed while I walk on my treadmill, which is great. I am trying to figure out a way to set my laptop up so I can type and walk at the same time. Win win, right?
