Amazon Canada: Kindle Was $79 | Now $64 & Free Shipping
Have you run out of ideals for Mother's Day yet? Maybe Mom would like a brand new Kindle eReader with touch technology. Originally $79, the Kindle is now on sale for $64 with free shipping.
Amazon Canada runs this promotion every once in a while. They had the same promotion for Black Friday and again for Valentine's Day. Thus, the deal crops up every few months - just in time for important events. a few years ago I bought my mother her first ever eReader for Mother's Day. She really loved the little device and took it with her everywhere.
Now, the base Kindle is not the only device on sale. You can also purchase the Kindle Paperwhite and the Kindle Paperwhite 3G at a discount. However, the discount is not as good as the discount for the base Kindle. Here is my comparison chart:
- Kindle: Was $79 | Now $64 = 19% off
- Kindle Paperwhite: Was $139 | Now $119 = 14% off
- Kindle Paperwhite 3G: Was $209 | Now $189 = 10% off
You can easily see that the bigger the machine does not necessarily make it the better discount. The basic Kindle is certainly the best deal and it is more affordable than other eReaders in its class. The cheapest Kobo eReader, the Kobo Touch, retails for $79.99. I tried to find eReaders on Sony's website, but they appear to exist no longer.
This eReader is an excellent basic device. The touchscreen device will remind you of a tablet or your smart phone. The device is really light and it is small enough to fit in a pocket, though I would tend to stick it in a bag for safety's sake. I have heard way too many stories about people who have sat on their eReaders and killed the device flat out.
Some people may wonder why you would by a Kindle over a Kobo. Well, eBooks on Amazon Canada tend to cost less and they often have wicked sales on eBooks. In addition, The kindle includes Goodreads integration - a valuable community and tracker for avid readers. I am a member of Goodreads and find it valuable for keeping track of the books I have read and what I thought of those books. My goal this year is to read 30 new books.
eReaders mimic the reading style of a book, thus they are superior to tablets for reading without eye-strain.
