I have to address the swing first because we have this exact Graco Glider LX Gliding Swing (we may have put it on Kijiji just last night!) and it was, quite literally, a lifesaver. When our son was a newborn, he was a little particular about where and how he slept (when he actually slept). It had to be on one of our chests and if that wasn't possible, he had to be in constant motion. I felt better about him being in the swing so often because of its design. With the newborn insert and with it fully reclined, it's really shaped more like a bassinet than a swing and glides much the way a gliding chair does. It also has a relatively small footprint - about 40% smaller than the average swing - which is nice when it becomes a piece of living room furniture for almost an entire year. Another imperative feature is that it plugs into the wall as well as giving you the option of using batteries. It also has a 2-setting vibration feature and music and nature sounds.
