Usually, the only things lurking in my LEGO sets are dust bunnies, snack crumbs and stray bricks I probably bumped and knocked off some tower ... but these ones are harbouring ghosts!
LEGO Hidden Side is an entirely new way to build – and play with – LEGO creations. Instead of just piecing together the bricks and then setting your masterpiece aside, these buildings and characters actually come to life, thanks to the magic of augmented reality. And all it takes is your phone.
As it says on the LEGO website, this series "invites kids to join a fearless team of ghost hunters, who dare see the unseen and help turn a haunted world back to normal, one ghost at a time."
This LEGO series is all about "haunted" buildings that are just as fun to piece together as any other set. But the party really gets started when you download the free augmented reality app ... because it brings the models to life with interactive challenges and mysteries for you to solve! Plus, you can play games on the app, even if you don't have a completed LEGO Hidden Side set nearby – so you can take the fun along on road trips, too.
Set prices range from $24.99 to $159.99, and I have to say, the massive Newbury Haunted High School looks incredible. The 1,474-piece model of a school looks pretty ordinary at first – but just wait until you see things through the app! And don't forget to pick up the Paranormal Intercept Bus while you're at it.
Many of these sets are also now available at Chapters Indigo, and I also spotted a few of them at Toys R Us. Chances are we'll see them soon at pretty much every store that usually sells LEGO, so I'd keep an eye out for them at Walmart and Amazon, too. Wherever you shop, shipping should be free with a minimum spend.
