These Sandals are Made from Old Tires!

In case you missed the news, the latest Etsy Design Award Winners were just announced! These awards recognize creative and innovative designs by Etsy sellers and crafters around the world – and while a few things caught my eye, I fell in love with their Earth-Friendly Winner right away.

Vicky Moudilou and Stam Guinis are an Athens-based couple behind Eating the Goober, a sustainable fashion brand that makes upcycled, interchangeable slides called "The Ethical Magic Sliders."

These sandals are made from recycled materials, and here's the best part: the uppers are all completely interchangeable. You just buy the base (sold in women's sizes 36 EU to 40 EU for $120.24), and then you can purchase as many upper parts as you want! But, as the sellers say, you can also wear the base by itself!

This all means you can put together dozens of different looks with only one pair of sandals – which should help to cut down on a little of the clutter in your hall closet. And if you want to feel even better about your purchase, know that the bases are all made from recycled car tires and motorbike inner tubes.

Before you worry that the tires will be too hot or sticky against your feet, the sellers thought of that. The lining that actually comes into contact with your skin is made from cork fabric.

Because they're made from old tires, you might see serial numbers or other letters on your shoes. While I think that gives them a little bit of charm, you can also request that your order not contain any markings. The sellers will do their best to find "blank" tire parts for you! Shipping from Greece is an additional $18.26.

You can see a full list of this year's Etsy Design Award Winners on their website. There are pretty incredible pieces in there, including something most dog-owners will drool over: a Custom Mid-Century Dog House.
