I've never been too familiar with many sci - fi shows, but I have definitely heard of Battlestar Galactica (I have a friend who already owns this blu - ray set and loves the show). It stars Edward James Olmos, who I most recently saw in the Dexter TV series a few years ago, and as always, he was fantastic in his role.
