I own this attachment and it is a good, though not perfect, substitute to shredding by hand. I have maintained more skin on my knuckles much to my husband's delight. There are four blades for the rotor attachment and they are fairly easy to maneuver. Assembly is easy and cleaning is also very simple. I just suggest cleaning sooner rather than later. You can shred cheese with this system - I do it all the time.
One of the difficulties people have with the set is getting the blades unlocked. The mechanism is a bit stiff so to avoid any injuries I wrap my hand in a dish towel and stick it in the cone to rotate it to the unlocked position. It is really simple that way.
This is a fantastic deal for this set. I certainly think it is one of the most useful attachments for the stand mixer.
