  I would read and recommend anything by J.D. Robb (Promise in Death)! I have read all of her "In Death" series, and let me tell you there are a lot of them. More than thirty! J.D. Robb is actually Nora Roberts, although writing in a different, slightly darker style. So if you like her books, I'd give these a shot for sure! =)

  Madeline Wickham is Sophie Kinsella (Shopoholic series author). Her books are decent stories, lightly written but a bit more substance than the Kinsella books - all of which I enjoy. Elizabeth George is a British mystery writer. While there's always a murder plot, most of the focus is on the characters, which makes for a rich read. Well written stuff but not cheery.
