RECALL Expansion! Baby Food PC Organics Brand Due to Potential Bacterial Contamination

If you have a baby you need to know about this recall! Loblaw Companies Limited is recalling PC Organics brand Apple, Blueberry & Green Pea strained baby food (Edited: As well as many more, read the list below to find out which products are affected in this recall!) This product should not be consumed so make sure you share this with your friends and family who have babies or anyone who may have this in their home and of course, check your own pantry for it. The reason for the is recall due to potential presence of dangerous bacteria, Clostridium botulinum. So far there have been no reports of illness from ingestion of this product, but the recall was triggered by a consumer complaint.

The products were sold at the following locations up to and including February 8, 2017.

Ontario: Fortinos, Loblaws, No Frills, Real Canadian Superstore, Real Canadian Wholesale Club, valu-mart, Your Independent Grocer, Zehrs, Shoppers Drug Mart, and affiliated independent stores

Atlantic: Atlantic Superstore, Dominion, Cash&Carry, Real Canadian Wholesale Club, Your Independent Grocer, Shoppers Drug Mart, and affiliated independent stores

What you should do

If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, call your doctor.

No one likes a recall involving potential bacterial contamination but when babies are involved, it makes me want to be extra cautious. If your baby (or anyone) has gotten sick from eating this product, it's advised on the Healthy Canadians Website to call your family physician. If you have the product, it should be thrown out or taken back to the store where you bought it.

You can't decide by looking or smelling the baby food and is just not worth the risk. If it's contaminated with Clostridium botulinum toxin and baby eats it, symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, fatique, dizziness, blurred or double vision, dry mouth, respiratory failure and paralysis. This is the type of toxin that has even caused deaths in severe cases.
