In celebration of Canada's 150th anniversary Parks Canada is giving out free 2017 Parks Canada discovery passes.
The discovery passes give you free access to all National Parks, National Marine Conservation areas and National Historic sites nationwide.
Here is what you need to know about your free Discovery pass:
- The Discovery pass is valid from January 1st 2017 to December 31st 2017.
- One pass is valid for everyone arriving in the same vehicle.
- Activities such as tours or parking that normally have a separate fee may not be covered by the Discovery Pass.
- Camping fees are not included with the Discovery Pass.
Due to the high volume of Discovery Pass online orders, you may experience delays in accessing the site. But don't worry, this is not a limited time offer. You can order your free discovery pass anytime.
Now I am having visions of piling the family in the old minivan for a cross-country tour. Does anyone know if the National Parks allow wine?
Well, the site works. Sort of. I get an internal server error that won't let me add the pad to my cart.

Thanks for your comments, sorry you are having a difficult time with adding the pass to your cart! I tested it out myself just now and was able to add it into the cart and check out. You can order your free discovery pass anytime." So keep trying, and of course try the usual work-arounds such as trying a different browser, clearing cookies, etc. Good luck!

Been trying to get one for over a week. Site never works..
I tried late at night and got it to work, maybe it is just too busy during peak hours?
We have a Parks Canada pass already :), which lasts us til 2018
It is probably really busy now as this is the last few weeks in which your pass will last till 2018.. I would try late at night or bright and early in the morning. I heard that there are questions at the bottom to check off. Did you see those? We got ours in July.
Finally got it to work late last night...they just opened this up to purchase online in December..
We ordered ours online too. Could got them cheaper at AMA but didn't.
Really I understood they just became available to order online recently
Or I would have checked earlier. Oh well my mistake but got through finally 
They're free. So... I'm not sure how you could get them cheaper at AMA?
got them in JuLy so we paid for 1 year and got 1 year free. So we are good till July 2018.
