Crayons still seem to be on sale at various places for back to school so you could stock up on them now. Staples still has a 24 pack of Crayola crayons on sale for $0.75, down from $1.86.
It would be fun for a child to write the names of their friends on the crayons, along with some fun adjectives of their friends, and set them around the table along with colouring sheet placemats for their birthday party.
I can also surmise that some people (we all know someone who has an odd sense of humor) will be carving some clever and humorous words or sayings onto the crayons. It could be fun for Secret Santa gifts too, to have the crayons carved. Or taped to a gift as a name tag. There's all sorts of things you can do with carved crayons. You could hot glue gun them around a tin can to make a pencil holder that's personalized.
