I was browsing on Amazon.ca, a favourite haunt of my credit card. In the electronics section, number one in the bestsellers list is the Canon PowerShot SX130IS 12MP Digital Camera, which is down from $249.99 to $179.99 right now.
The price seems pretty good, it is the lowest price I can find from an online Canadian store. For example, the Canon PowerShot SX130IS is $230 at Canon themselves, $210 at Canada Computers, $200 at Best Buy, $220 at Future Shop, and $198 at Visions.
Regarding reviews, I recommend googling and having a read before you make any large purchase like this. Over at Steves Digicams, they say that the SX130IS is perfect if you're looking for something more like the control you get with a digital SLR camera, but would like a more compact and inexpensive device. And at cameralabs.com, they conclude that the SX130IS is an affordable compact super-zoom camera.
