When it comes to choosing a shredder, it all really depends on the cut that you need. In general, there are four cuts available on the market and the smaller the cut, the better it is. Amazon's description of them all is the most explanatory:
The Fellowes PowerShred shredder falls into the level 3 category, that of cross-cut and really, if you're looking for a shredder for either home or office use, then that is all your really need. A major plus is that it will cut through staples. This means that you won't have to spend extra time unstapling everything or ripping the staple out. You can just place the stapled document in and that's it!
The handle is also very useful for both a home and work setting as the shredder could easily be transported room to room. In the case of the former, however, it definitely wouldn't be suitable for heavy usage among numerous employees in a large office. Although it specifically suggest usage by just one person, this shredder could be placed in a hallway to share between a couple of people.

Powerful, not too loud... very heavy duty cutter blades. I have been loving my Fellowes Powershred. It cross cuts like a dream for me... and does not cut out or overheat. I use it constantly until the large bin is full of the fine shreds. It even cuts up stapled papers and those thin cardboard like sheets, that come inside some packaging of various products etc.
