RECALL! Five Star Shellfish Inc. Brand Oysters Due To Salmonella

Five Star Shellfish Inc. is recalling Five Star Shellfish Inc. brand large standard and mixed oysters because of potential Salmonella contamination.

The products that are involved in the recall include the following:

  • Five Star Shellfish Inc. Large Standard Oysters, 100 count

Harvest Date: 13-Aug-16

Harvest Location: PEI 1Q

  • Five Star Shellfish Inc. Mixed Oysters, 100 count

Harvest Date: 13-Aug-16

Harvest Location: PEI 1Q

Even though they were harvested in PEI, they could have been purchased anywhere in Canada.

There have been no illnesses reported from consumption of these oysters but don't consume this recalled oysters; check your home for them and also alert family and friends who may have these oysters in their home.

If you feel ill from consuming these oysters, call your family physician.

Salmonella doesn't make a food smell or look different so don't try to judge whether or not the oysters are safe; you need to get rid of them by throwing them out or taking them back to the place you purchased them from.

Healthy people can experience fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea if they eat the contaminated oysters. The young, pregnant, elderly and individuals who have a weakened immune system are most at risk if they consume these oysters. Long-term complications could even include severe arthritis.
