I love Dyson vacuums, in my opinion it is the only vacuum cleaner worth owning. We have the DC24 Multi Floor for $499.99, which is a compact vacuum, great for apartments. Now that we have two cats it still functions like a charm for the floors, but I find the suction on the extendable arm could be a little better for cleaning off furniture. If and when I need to replace the vacuum, I will probably go for the DC43 Animal, one of a line of cleaners specifically designed for removing pet hair.
