Here are some words from Bargainmooser MrChristian from westenddumplings who let me know about this store.

Ten Thousand Villages is a nonprofit, 'Fair Trade' organization started by the Mennonite Central Committee in 1996, though the roots of the business go back 50 years before that. They purchase, at fair prices, handicrafts directly from artisans and artisan co-ops in disadvantaged countries around the world and sell them.

In Canada there are 50 stores and another 75 in the US. If you've been in one of them you'll see that it's an eclectic mix of items: pottery, rugs, masks, blankets, jewellery, clothing, hand-made paper cards. They also market a great Fair Trade coffee and chocolate goods.

I've bought a number of gifts there in-person as they have a couple of stores in Winnipeg. You're guaranteed to find something unique! I have not ordered handicrafts online but have ordered their coffee on-line. For something a bit different it's worth checking it out if there's one in your town or just go online.

Thanks for the mini review MrChristian!

I love shopping at Ten Thousand Villages because I know the money I'm spending is helping someone who really needs it! And the items available there are, as previously mentioned, each uniquely hand-crafted.

What do you think?
