Studio Tax: Free Downloadable Tax Software for Personal or Professional Use

StudioTax has free tax software that is NETFILE certified. This tax software will download to your computer and is certified for both Mac and PC computers. Pay absolutely nothing for StudioTax and file up to 2o returns. There are two different software packages depending on your needs: one is for personal use and the other is for professional tax preparers.

While the domains are different (one is .com and one is .ca), both of these tax software packages are for filing your Canadian taxes. Make sure you download the right software, as StudioTax Enterprise cannot be used for individual tax returns. To use StudioTax Enterprise you must be a CRA registeres tax preparer. If you are not, then be sure to choose StudioTax 2014.

This software does not run off a browser. Instead, you download the software to your computer. Unlike most paid tax software packages, you can file up to 20 returns. Most paid software allows up to eight returns. The StudioTax Enterprise software allows up to 20 returns and gives the option of purchasing a license for unlimited returns - should you need it.

StudioTax 2014 is CRA and Revenue Quebec certified for Netfile and printed returns. The Mac version is CRA certified for Netfile and print returns, but not for Quebec returns.

Now, if you have used StudioTax before, then importing your previous returns is simple. However, StudioTax does not support importing previous returns from other programs you might have used.

Studio Tax is easy to install as no name, phone number, address, email, or credit card number is required. There is also no registration, no license key, and no software activation required. You simply download and go. In addition, they will not harass you to upgrade or to pay for the software (or upgrades) at any time. If you do love the software and want to donate, they have a button for that.

I have not tried this yet, but I did read a couple reviews on other websites. Apparently, if your taxes are straight forward, than this software works well. However, if you have complicated tax returns then you may be better off with a software package that gives you access to an accountant as well.

Hey Moosers, have you tried out StudioTax before? If so, let us know what you think!

We use Studio Tax every year and have never had any issues. We used to use UFile until a glitch in their program accidentally doubled some tuition credits of mine, causing me to owe a few thousand dollars PLUS interest when the CRA caught the mistake 6 months later. Completely unacceptable! Studio Tax is free and user friendly, a lot of my friends and colleagues use it too.
