Staples Canada: Keurig Special Edition Brewing System for $99 (Save $60)

20 May 2012

If there is one thing that almost all geek hav in common it is coffee! How else will you stay up for those late night coding sessions or for that run with your guildmates who are seven time zones away?

To be honest, I don't drink coffee. I'm actually allergic to caffeine. I can handle a bit so I have actually used a Keurig machine for hot chocolate but I suspect it wouldn't be smart to buy a Keurig just for my 5 time a year hot chocolate. My caffeine issues don't matter though! What you want is to hear about this beautiful coffee machine!

This unit is the B60 special edition is on sale for $99, originally $60, and comes with a 12 k-cup variety pack. Some of the features, from the Keurig Canada website, are as follows:

  • Programmable
  • Choice of 3-cup sizes: 175 ml, 240 ml and 300 ml (6 oz., 8 oz. and 10 oz.)
  • Removable 1,42 L (48 oz) water reservoir
  • Quiet-Brew Technology
  • Energy Savings Mode – Auto On/Off

For the uninitiated, Keurig machines are single brew units that focus on ease of use, ease or maintenance and variety of beverages. Ease of use and maintenance is achieved through the use of k-cups. You put the k-cup in the machine, close it, turn it on and coffee comes out. When it's done you open the machine and pop out the now empty k-cup. No coffee grounds and filters to clean, just an empty plastic cup. The variety is again because of the k-cups. Different manufacturers can make different k-cups and different flavours. They have Van Houtte, Timothy's, Green Mountain, Starbucks and a ton of others. They don't only have coffee though. As I mentioned earlier they have hot chocolate, flavoured coffee (one of the guys I work with hasn't shut up about Kahlua flavoured coffee for about two weeks now), tea and even iced tea, among others.
