Little Big Planet: Game of the Year Edition (PS3)

Posted by Avigayil on January 10, 2011 at 1:00 PM

Little Big Planet: Game of the Year Edition (PS3)

I have two great deals from two different retailers! First off, Little Big Planet was a hugely successful game that got amazing ratings. It still retails for $50 – $70, depending on where you look. So they released a Game of the Year Edition, with bonus levels, bonus packs, and $30 worth of materials… for a lower price than the original Little Big Planet was being sold for! It is the same game, but with more stuff! I do hear it has less manuals though.

So without further a-due: here are the deals I found:

    • The Source: This is an even better deal. You get the Little Big Planet: Game of the Year Edition PLUS a Dualshock 3 Controller all for $59.99. These controllers cost  $54.99 and the Game of the Year edition costs $29.99 so you get all the savings and bonuses of the above deal plus this bundle saves you $24.99 off the duo. Click here if you want to get this bundle.

So there are your options: both really great in my opinion… I just ordered the game myself! Little Big Planet: Game of the Year Edition (PS3)

Big Fish Games New Year Deal

Posted by Anna on January 7, 2011 at 8:00 PM

Big Fish Games New Year Deal

There’s a new deal available from Big Fish Games on some of the titles that their users have voted for as the top games of 2010. Normally these games are $10.49CA for non-game club members. But with this coupon code, all the games are only $5.49.

Click here to use the Big Fish Games coupon code online

    • Coupon code: gameoftheyear
    • Discount: GOTY for only $5.49
    • Expires: 31st January 2011

This doesn’t actually work out quite as well as the 50% off coupon code for new customers, because the games are only $5.49 instead of a potential $5.25 – but you can only get one game with that coupon code, and it applies to new customers only. So if you’re an existing customer like me, this could be useful.

    Some highlights from the selection:

I’ve just bought Drawn: The Painted Tower as I heard it was very good – I plan on putting a few hours into that this weekend! I haven’t heard anything about Dark Flight though. I plan on putting a few hours into that this weekend!

Bigfishgames: Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Persian Carpet For $2.99

Posted by Anna on January 5, 2011 at 8:00 AM

Bigfishgames: Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Persian Carpet For $2.99

If you’ve never bought a game from Bigfishgames before, here’s an offer for new customers. You can buy Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Persian Carpet for only $2.99, instead of the regular price of $6.99.

Click here to go to Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Persian Carpet

    • Coupon Code: sherlock3
    • Discount: Sherlock Holmes for $2.99
    • Expires: 6th January 2011

I’ve linked to the PC version of the game, you can also download the Mac version in the same deal.

This deal is slightly better than the half price deal for new customers which Avigayil posted about yesterday. With that deal, you would be paying $3.50 for this game, whereas this new coupon code means you can get it for $2.99 instead. Of course, you might want to make use of the half price offer if there is a different game that you might be interested in.

I’ve never bought a game from Bigfishgames, I’ve only made use of their free ones. This one looks like fun though – I think I will buy it now. I like these kind of games in which you can come and go as you please, it doesn’t require you to sit for hours and hours to get past a certain bit. That’s not to say that I won’t sit for hours and hours anyway, when the addiction kicks in!

UPDATE: Just ordered and paid for it. Process was fast and simple Bigfishgames: Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Persian Carpet For $2.99

HumbleBundle #2: Push the Average – get 11 Video Games (instead of 5)

Posted by Avigayil on December 22, 2010 at 3:00 PM

HumbleBundle #2: Push the Average get 11 Video Games (instead of 5)

When Anna first posted about the HumbleBundle I had to donate… come on… pay what you want for 5 indie games? That is like, sick! So I threw my $10 into the pot, felt good about myself and downloaded some rather cool games. THEN I got this awesome email in my inbox saying that because I had donated, they were now going to give out the BumbleBundle #1 to everyone who had donated for the HumbleBundle #2! That is an additional 6 games! Now I feel guilty for only donating $10.

What this means for you? If you haven’t donated yet you can a) donate whatever you want (even $0.01) for the HumbleBundle #2 – 5 awesome games, OR b) you can help push the average donation per bundle up and donate $7.45+ and get BOTH bundles – 11 totally awesome games!! If you donated for the HumbleBundle #2 already, you can now download the HumbleBundle#1 too!

    The games in HumbleBundle #2

    • Braid
    • Cortex Command
    • Machinarium
    • Osmos
    • Revenge of the Titans

If you donate $7.45+ you get these babies too:

    • World of Goo
    • Aquaria
    • Gish
    • Lugaru HD
    • Penumbra Overture
    • Samorost 2

Plus you feel really good about yourself. HumbleBundle #2: Push the Average get 11 Video Games (instead of 5)

I am totally looking forward to World of Goo, it has made it fairly big on the iPad lately, and it started as this small indie game. I can’t wait to play it!

    Redeemable on Steam, btw.

    Xbox 360 & Kinect Bundles

Posted by Anna on December 20, 2010 at 12:00 PM

    Xbox 360 & Kinect Bundles

So apparently the Xbox Kinect is all the rage this Christmas. If you’re desperate to get your hands on one, there are a few places where you  could go to get one now. These are all in stock either online or in-store, so you should be able to grab one somewhere.

    Deals @ The Source Canada:

    Deals @ Futureshop Canada:

    Deals @ Best Buy Canada:

    Deals @ Visions Canada

Deals @ Amazon (Check Delivery Times)

Deals @ Gamestop Canada (Check shipping)

Price-wise, they all seem to be similar, there is no one deal that really stands out above the others. But the Visions deal is actually more expensive – though some may be willing to pay that just to get their hands on one for Christmas.

I’ve seen the Kinect in action, but haven’t had the chance to try it out yet. It’s probably not something I would buy myself, as we have a PS3 and a Wii in our house. I think having all 3 consoles would be overkill.

Humble Bundle 2: Video Games x 5, Pay What You Want

Posted by Anna on December 14, 2010 at 5:00 PM

Humble Bundle 2: Video Games x 5, Pay What You Want

This is a deal called the “humble bundle 2″ for 5 indie-developed video games, for the PC, Mac or Linux. There are 5 downloadable games, individually worth $85, but you can pay whatever you want for them.

This is how the deal works – you decide how much you want to pay for these games, and send it to them by paypal. You can choose to send some to charity, some to the game developers, or to the Humble Bundle organisers themselves. They are going to get some people sending $0.01, but I personally am advising you to reach a bit deeper into those dusty wallets, and perhaps think about donating $10…

    The games you get are:

    • Braid
    • Cortex Command
    • Machinarium
    • Osmos
    • Revenge Of The Titans

To be honest, this is an EXCELLENT offer. I’ve played Braid, Osmos and Machinarium from the above list, and all 3 are excellent little puzzlers. It’s DRM free, meaning the games are yours to download and do whatever you wish – there are no restrictions.

I bought the Humble Bundle 1 when it was released way back in May 2010. At that time, I bought it for the World of Goo game, which was totally excellent.

If you’ve never played them and you want to try out the first one for free, you can use the coupon code ravenfree to get it now. Then see if you want to purchase the sequel as well.

I’ve played the first one, and it is a nice little puzzler.

Gran Turismo 5 (PS3) & Driving Wheel For Only $59.99

Posted by Anna on December 4, 2010 at 3:00 PM

Gran Turismo 5 (PS3) & Driving Wheel For Only $59.99

Here’s one for the gamers. Futureshop Canada is offering Gran Turismo 5 for the Playstation 3 with a wired Intec driving wheel for only $59.99 for the bundle!

The deal will only be active from 8pm EST tonight (Saturday the 4th December), and only lasts until 10am tomorrow. I think this particular item will be popular and might sell out quite fast – so maybe set an alarm if you want to make sure and get online at that time, to purchase one.

The regular price for this bundle on the Futureshop website is $109.98. As Gran Turismo 5 is a new release for the PS3, it is selling for $60 at most outlets. So for $59.99 with the driving wheel, it’s a really good price. The driving wheel itself is an Intec, so might not be quite as good as some of the Logitech models, but you’re pretty much getting it for free.

I plan on buying GT5 for my partner for Christmas. I am waiting to see if it will come down in price a bit before I take the plunge though. We already have a Logitech racing wheel, so I’m passing on this particular offer.

Toys R Us Video Game Discounts

Posted by Anna on November 21, 2010 at 6:00 PM

Toys R Us Video Game Discounts

Right now, Toys R Us Canada has a mix-and-match promotion on their video games. There are various cash discounts when you spend certain amounts of money.

    Here is the breakdown:

    • Save $10 When you spend $39.98 to $74.97
    • Save $20 When you spend $74.98 to $99.97
    • Save $30 When you spend $99.98 or more

Just add the items to your shopping cart online and you can see the discount. This promotion excludes games which are already bundled with hardware, and only applies to standalone games.

Now, the video game prices at Toys R Us are pretty standard, they aren’t very special. But when you are applying this promotion, you might be able to come up with a good deal for a few games.

When you think about it, you get the most percentage discount when you spend $99.98, so it is worth trying to bump your order up to that amount. I usually suggest grouping together with family members and making a bulk order. Here’s what I mean:

    • Save $10 When you spend $39.98 to $74.97  - if spending $39.98, you save 25%
    • Save $20 When you spend $74.98 to $99.97 – if spending $74.98, you save 27%
    • Save $30 When you spend $99.98 or more – if spending $99.98, you save 30%

So let me show you a few examples of games you might be interested in:

Plus, you get free shipping on an online spend of $100 or more, so could be worth topping your order up to that amount.

Click here to use the BigFishGames Coupon Code online

    • Coupon Code: NICK249
    • Discount: Nick Chase for $2.49
    • Expires: Unknown

Nick Chase, a hard-boiled Private Investigator, is in need of a job. Lucky for him, one arrives from a man known only as The Collector. Solve a variety of puzzles and find hidden clues to uncover the mystery behind the missing manuscript penned by Leonardo Di Vinci. Explore gorgeous hand drawn scenes with a gritty film noir style in this one of a kind Adventure game where everyone is a suspect!

These little games from Big Fish Games are really good fun. I like it better when they are totally free, but I cannot complain if they’re only a few dollars. It’s a few dollars for quite a few hours of fun.

I’ve never played this particular one though. Have any of the Bargainmoosers? Would you recommend it?
