Home Depot Canada: RYOBI ONE+ 5 In. Random Orbit Sander (18V) only $12

Home Depot Canada: RYOBI ONE+ 5 In. Random Orbit Sander (18V) only $12

If you or your husband have recently discovered the wonder of the RYOBI ONE+ line of tools then you may want to check out this RYOBI ONE+ 5 In. Random Orbit Sander for only $12!

We recently inherited a RYOBI ONE+ grass trimmer and blower and although we knew about this line of tools we never really considered investing in them.  Mainly because we own a gas powered trimmer and my husband has always leaned towards DeWalt tools.

However, with our recent acquisition we have decided to sell the gas powered trimmer for three reasons: it’s overkill for the size of property we have, it’s very loud and heavy.  Plus, with a lighter battery operated one I can take over the trim work and frankly I am ok with that.

Although my husband never considered the RYOBI ONE+ line before, he has been doing more and more research on the different tools and accessories they offer, because any Ryobi 18V Tool fits any Ryobi 18V battery and that means less clutter on his work table.

Now my husband may end up using this tool, but this one is really for me. I like to find old furniture and refinish it. I know to some of you that may sound like a huge undertaking and a few years ago I would have agreed. However, I discovered the wonders of chalk paint and it opened up a whole new world for me! Although you don’t have to strip or prep the furniture before using chalk paint, I like to distress my projects and this orbit sander could really come in handy with some of the larger pieces.

Ships for FREE! As an added bonus, this item ships for free under Home Depot’s Free Parcel Shipping category. This item is available online only so unfortunately you will have to patient for it to arrive.

Home Depot Canada: Makita 3 Pocket Pouch Only $16 + Free Shipping (Was $35)

Posted by on June 18, 2014 at 8:30 PM

Home Depot Canada: Makita 3 Pocket Pouch Only $16 + Free Shipping (Was $35)

Pick up this handy Makita Three Pocket Fixings Pouch from The Home Depot Canada for only $15.95 with free shipping, originally $34.95.

This three-pocket pouch is perfect for both professions and those doing upkeep around the house. The three deep pockets fit nails, screws, bolts, fasteners, fixings, and miscellaneous tools like small measuring tapes or a pencil and eraser. The material on these pouches is super thick: it is made to stand the wear and tear of professional use and will most certainly stand up to the test of time.

The belt also features two long tool slots that fit screwdrivers, hammers, knives, pliers and other hand tools. There is a metal clip, which accepts standard size tape measures. This case has a bonus feature i am not use to on these pouches: a rubber handle for ease of transportation. Now, usually you would just slip this pouch system onto your belt and away you go. However, if you don’t want to carry this pouch with you at all times, then the carrying handle is lets you easily transport the pouch with you without needing to attach it to your belt.

This tool belt/pouch system will fit on most standard sized belts. I suggest a good thick leather belt that can handle the weight of whatever you load your belt up with. My father is a journeyman carpenter so I am very familiar with these pouches; I have even worn one myself.

The pouch has a great review from one happy customer:

My husband has had his Makita work belt for over 5 years and has only had to replace the pockets twice in that time. He has mentioned over and over again that this pocket is amazing and hopes they will still be available the next time they need to be replaced.

Even if you are not a carpenter, these pouches are very useful. If you are doing odd jobs around the house or hanging pictures, you can have your tape measure, your hammer, and your nails all within arm’s reach without having to search for where you put one of them down. Usually I dump an eraser and pencil into one of the pouches for marking my distances. This could also be used as a gardening pouch: a couple hand tools can go into the tool slots and seeds can go in your pouches.

Right now Home Depot is offering free shipping on most items that weight under 100 lbs and this pouch qualifies.

Mastercraft 14” Aggressive HandSaw only $3 In-Store @ Canadian Tire!

Posted by on June 14, 2014 at 10:00 AM

Mastercraft 14” Aggressive HandSaw only $3 In Store @ Canadian Tire!

Tools! Pointy tools! Pointy spiky tools! Pointy spiky aggressive tools!

There’s a deal on in-store at Canadian Tire just now, for this Mastercraft 14” Aggressive HandSaw. It’s been reduced by 75% from $12.19, down to only $3! That’s very inexpensive indeed, especially for a big brand name.

In the past, I’ve noticed this particular saw for $3.99, but never as low as the $3 mark.

On the Canadian Tire site above, you can use their online stock checker to see if there are any of these Mastercraft saws available at a location near to your home. Now, it’s probably not worth driving to your local Canadian Tire just to get a three dollar saw, but it might be an excuse to make the trip if you had a plan to do so anyway.

I had a quick scan of the reviews on the Canadian Tire website and they seem positive, as you might imagine. With an overall rating of 4.6 out of 5, with such comments as:

Does an excellent job -ripping though the cut with fast work. Great tool!

Here are a few points about this saw:

  • Ergonomic  2 component soft-grip & non-slip handle
  • Ideal for a fast cut
  • Blade coated with water-based lacquer providing rust protection

Apparently this Mastercraft saw has “Aggressive toothing,” I have no idea what this means.  I did have to google, and all I could find were articles about aggressive puppies… not quite what I was searching for. If you know what that means, tell me in the comment below!

My other half has a growing collection of saws in the man-cave/garage… so I’m definitely not going to tell him about the deal on this one. I am not sure why he needs quite so many saws in his collection. I understand that there are different saws for different jobs, but surely you can try and make do with the tools that you have, without resorting to buying a new saw for each and every new job to be undertaken. Unless the saws are magically reproducing of their own accord…

P.S. The image I have used above is not the exact image of this particular Mastercraft saw, but a stock image from elsewhere. The one on the left illustrates a “man sawing a branch with zeal.” That caption made me chuckle!

Lowes Canada: Dewalt 37-Piece Screwdriver Set Only $10 (Was $30)

Posted by on June 7, 2014 at 12:30 PM

Lowes Canada: Dewalt 37 Piece Screwdriver Set Only $10 (Was $30)

Still looking for a Father’s Day gift? Lowes has a super deal on a Dewalt 37-piece screwdriver set. It was originally $29.98, and now only $9.98. It will also ship to you free!

Not just a fantastic gift idea, but a handy item for every household, this screwdriver set has everything you’d need for bits. It includes Phillips, slotted, Robertson, magnetic nutsetters and a magnetic drive guide. Ask me what any of these are, and I really can’t tell you. I know zilch about tools besides that this is a hammer, screwdriver, wrench and a nail. However, I know a good deal when I see it and I think this is one!

What else can you say about drill bits? It comes in a very handy yellow hard-sided carrying case, so you can take it with you to whatever job you need to do. I asked my handy husband what all the Moosers would need to know about this set and he said he has one of these sets, and that this was a fantastic price. He said it is great to have all the different sizes of bits, and this would be great for just about anyone, as the bits eventually wear out and you need to replace them and instead of buying one at a time, this set has them all!

While they can wear out, these ones are made from hardened steel, with multiple application functionality and are high quality.

As I said, this will ship for free as Lowes has free parcel shipping! If you love free shipping deals, then you absolutely must check out our free shipping page, which lists all of the stores we know who ship for free with no minimum order.

Lowes Canada: Porter Cable 88-Piece Drilling Driving Accessory Set Only $9.99 & Free Shipping! (expired)

Posted by on June 2, 2014 at 11:00 AM

Lowes Canada: Porter Cable 88 Piece Drilling Driving Accessory Set Only $9.99 & Free Shipping! (expired)

If you are still looking for a Father’s Day gift for your dad that is practical, check out this hot deal from Lowes. Get the Porter Cable 88-piece drilling/driving accessory set for only $9.99, with a regular price of $39.99. It will also ship for free!

Description:

This handy little set has 88 pieces to accomplish pretty much any job. Made with black oxide and a titanium nitride coating, you know that this set is high quality. The reviewers rate this set highly. One guy said that he lent the set to a friend and didn’t realize how much he would actually miss it. I guess he should take advantage of this deal and get himself a new set. You can’t beat $10 with free shipping to boot!

Inside of the included hardside durable carrying case, you’ll get drill bits, screwdriver bits and holders. To make using it easy, there is also a magnetic drive guide.

Price Comparison:

To give you an idea of price comparisons, Amazon.com has this set on for $34.99, NewEgg (U.S.) sells it for $29.99 and eBay (U.S.) sells it for $34.99. I didn’t really see it at Canadian retailers. This is one time where the Canadians score on lower prices!

Shipping:

This set has free parcel shipping from Lowes, and if you like that, how about checking out more stores that will ship to you free with no minimum spend?

I think this makes a great set to have around the house for any person, family or couple. If you know someone who might need help being handy, this would make a great gift. Maybe Dad has a set like this that is getting worn down and he needs a new one? I’m sure he would appreciate the thoughtfulness of a practical gift!

Amazon Canada: Bosch Multi-X Oscillating Tool Kit Only $125

Posted by on May 28, 2014 at 10:00 AM

Amazon Canada: Bosch Multi X Oscillating Tool Kit Only $125

If you or someone you know (Dad?) requires the use of the very handy oscillating tool, Amazon has a great deal on the Bosch 2.5-amp multi-x oscillating tool kit. It is now only $124.99, with a regular listed price of $367.11. This regular price seems inflated to me though, as Home Depot sells the kit for $179. Either way, Amazon still sells it for at least a $50 savings over the competitors.

This tool looks very handy and a must-have in anyone’s tool box. From the photos I can see that it strips floors, buffs and cleans, sands, cleans grout, spreads glue and other applications, cuts hardware, screws in bolts, and even cuts. I’m sure there are lots of other applications for this tool as well. With Father’s Day approaching, I’m sure this could be a well-used and appreciated gift for Dad.

It has 2.5 amps so it can handle even the heavier jobs, and a variable speed dial so you can customize it to what you need. The included accessory holder makes it easy to change tools mid-job. There are 30 reviews on Amazon for this oscillating tool, and 23 of them are 5-star and 7 are 4-star, which says a lot about the quality of this Bosch item.

The reviewers talk about the handiness of the tool in getting multiple jobs done, but also gives you some feedback on why they would only give it four stars. Most of the feedback is on some smaller issue compared to another more expensive tool. Read for yourself and see if this is the tool for you.

Shipping will be free on this item as it surpasses Amazon’s $25 minimum.

Amazon Canada: Save $10 On A $45 Spend On Tekton Tools

Amazon Canada: Save $10 On A $45 Spend On Tekton Tools

If Dad wants tools for Father’s Day, you’ve come to the right place today. Get $10 off at checkout when you add $45 or more in Tekton tools to your cart at Amazon.

I know it is cliche to say that men like tools, but in my experience, men like tools. My husband is a handy guy with a great barrage of tools. My father is a very handy guy with a giant toolbox. My father-in-law also has every tool you could ever ask for. Even my younger brother who didn’t used to be handy, now does his own renovations and has quite the tool collection. My little boys have plastic tools and they play with them often. Males are just drawn to tools. I think before you do buy the man in your life a tool, you find out either a) what tool he needs or b) about new cool tool that he would love.

Being a girly-girl, I don’t think I’ve ever even changed a lightbulb. Okay, I’m exaggerating, but I honestly wouldn’t know which tools to tell you to get, because I’ve only ever used a screwdriver and a hammer. But, knowing deals, I can tell you what is a great deal! I tried to price compare these tools and where they invariably came up for price comparison was eBay, where most of them were selling for a lot more money than the sale price at Amazon before the $10 discount.

Take for example this 135-piece Everybit and electronic repair screwdriver bit set. It is regularly $41.62, now $35.70. It has fantastic reviews and sells for $72.88 on eBay. Add another tool priced at $10 and basically that other tool would be free.

Shipping is free on a $25 spend, so you’ll also enjoy that perk of spending the $45 too.

Amazon Canada: Bosch 18-Volt Cordless Drill/Driver Only $129

Posted by on May 23, 2014 at 4:30 PM

Amazon Canada: Bosch 18 Volt Cordless Drill/Driver Only $129

Amazon has an amazing deal on right now on the Bosch 18-volt lithium-ion cordless drill/driver. It is regularly priced at $380 and is on sale for $149. But, once you add it to your cart and checkout, you’ll notice another $20 discounted and you’ll get it for $129. I tried to price compare and found this item for wildly different prices, but the conclusion I came to was that Amazon was the cheapest, by a long shot.

What makes this an even better deal than what I’ve seen is what it includes. A lot of times these drills don’t include the battery but this includes two 18-volt lithium-ion slim pack batteries, plus a 45-minute battery charger, a double-sided Philips drive bit and to top it off a storage clip and hard carrying case. If you have a tool loving man in your life, this drill/driver might just make an excellent Father’s Day gift (even if you buy it for yourself).

I’ve read so many great things about this drill in my research and you can read the reviews yourself which say things like “great drill”, “easy to use and well made” and “powerful and compact”.

It is a lightweight but powerful machine that is perfect for the average user, especially since it comes with everything and is this low of a price.

Shipping is going to be free as well.

Shop.ca: Cobra Jumpack Power Charger Only $130

Shop.ca: Cobra Jumpack Power Charger Only $130

Shop.ca has a great deal on a Cobra Jumpack MB power charger. This thing is really cool! They are selling it for $129.99 with a regular price of $164.99. I couldn’t find this online at any Canadian stores to price compare.

Basically here is what you can do with this power charger:

  • jumpstart your car
  • charge multiple mobile devices
  • use it as a flashlight

This is the perfect item to keep in your vehicle for emergencies, especially for when like, your phone goes dead. Or when you are stranded with a dead car battery or your car breaks down in the middle of the night. I think this would also make the perfect and most practical Father’s Day Gift or gift for a child branching out on their own.

I’d like one of these for my vehicle and maybe even one for my kitchen as it has such multiple uses.

If you read Anna’s post a few days ago, you noticed that you could get $15 off any $30 Shop.ca order with promo code. Add that to this deal and get the power charger for a grand total of $114.99. As always, you’ll also get free shipping too.

Amazon Canada: Bosch Rotary Hammer $99.99 (was $370)

Posted by on March 16, 2014 at 2:30 PM

Amazon Canada: Bosch Rotary Hammer $99.99 (was $370)

Amazon Canada has a great deal for all of the handyman out there.  Get a Bosch 112258VSR rotary hammer for just $99.99.

This tool was $370 and is now just $99.99 making the new price 73% off right now.

I am already thinking ahead for Father’s Day with this great deal.  My husband loves his tools and I know that Bosch is a great brand.  At the regular price, he would normally not be purchasing this.  At 73% off however, I can get it for him and look like the hero wife!

This tool comes with a one year warranty and 3 SDS bits to use.  It has a two mode selector and it easily converts from rotary hammer mode to rotation only mode quickly.   It is considered to be one of the best performing rotary hammer in its class.

I wanted to do some price comparison on this tool before I got one myself.  I found one at Home Depot for $798.  Granted it is a little different but it is the exact brand and has the same  1-5/8 inch rotary hammer. I couldn’t find it at Lowes Canada or at Canadian Tire either.

This items will also get free shipping saving you even more money.

Home Depot Canada: Makita Heat Gun Only $56 (Was $79)

Posted by on December 5, 2013 at 11:30 AM

Home Depot Canada: Makita Heat Gun Only $56 (Was $79)

Today’s Home Depot Hammer Drop deal is on a Makita heat gun, the perfect gift idea for the handyman (or woman) in your life. It was $79, now $56.16, but when I price compared, the price was much higher at Amazon ($99) and I couldn’t really find it anywhere else.

Only available today online only, this heat gun was made to weld and form plastics, shrink tubing, solder copper pipe, bend plastic pipe, thaw metal pipes, activate and deactivate adhesive and putty and strip paint. As you can see, you can use it in a wide range of settings. It has ergonomic and soft grips so hands don’t get as tired using it.

Reviews for this heat gun are amazing, like this one:

Don’t waste your time with any other heat gun. The Makita is the best by far. The temperature adjustment knob is a little bit of a pain to use, but other than that it has the best heat of all the other guns I have used. I used mine to strip all the paint off the exterior of a 2000 sq. ft. bungalow and it is still going strong. I burned up a cheap Harbor Freight model after about 25 hours. I also used the Milwaukie, but it just didn’t seem to heat up the paint as well as the Makita. Stripping paint is a boring, tedious job, so treat yourself right and get the job done faster so you can drink beer and watch the grass grow.

Shipping to Ontario was about $6, which is worth it for the savings you get.

Walmart Canada: 50% off Cordless Drill, Circular Saw, and Light Combo Kit – Now $50

Posted by on December 3, 2013 at 5:00 PM

Walmart Canada: 50% off Cordless Drill, Circular Saw, and Light Combo Kit Now $50

Walmart Canada has a really awesome deal on a three-piece tool kit at Walmart Canada. Pick up a Black & Decker 18V Cordless Drill, Circular Saw, and Light Combo Kit for only $50, down from $98.97.

This deal appears to be online only as all my local stores have the set for full price.

This set comes with only one battery (not the two shown in the picture) and it comes with a charger (not shown in the picture above). This just means you would have to switch the battery between the saw and the drill if you were going to use them both around the same time or you might want to buy another battery to supplement.

This is a pretty good basic tool set for the handyman in the family without breaking the piggy-bank.

All items ship for free from Walmart.
