The Source Canada: $30 Off R/C Fountain Boat – Now $39.99

Posted by on July 17, 2014 at 8:00 PM

The Source Canada: $30 Off R/C Fountain Boat Now $39.99

Want to have some additional fun this summer in your pool or on the lake? Save $30 on this New Bright 23″ Remote Control Fountain Boat. Originally $69.99, the boat is on sale for $39.99.

The radio controller lets you direct the boat from shore. The fountain boat can go forward, reverse drive, and left/right all at the command of your hands.  The transmitter has a range of up to 100 feet. The boat and controller come with two AA and one 9.6V batteries so you do not need to buy them extra. I looked this boat up on various other websites and some say that the boat also comes with a battery charger, but The Source does not mention that.

One customer asked if you could run two boats at the same time. You can only do this is the boats are on different channels. These kinds of boats come in 27MHZ and 49MHZ. Unfortunately, The Source Canada does not say what frequency this particular boat is on. I also looked around and could not find any details on what frequency this boat runs on.

I did price compare this boat, but it was hard finding it in Canada from anyone but a secondary seller. The cheapest place I found this boat was at Walmart (US) for $50 and it was sold out. Amazon Canada resellers start at $80, and US resellers are worse. Given the other prices I was finding, I figured this was a pretty nice deal and a great gift for any kid who loves water, boats, or just driving things.

This boat is designed for ages eight or more. It is a great little toy for children and adults alike. I remember a relative of mine had a remote control monster truck when I was young, and all I ever wanted (besides his Lego collection) was that monster truck. My obsession in vehicles started young! I loved controlling it and making it go fast, and then do circles, and then chase the dog. I am sure this boat would be a lot of fun as well since I love water. I think it is super cool that it can go backwards, not just forward and turning. It also looks really great.

The Source offers free shipping on orders of $30 or more so this boat will ship for free to your place.

The Source: Pill Bottle Magnifier (2x) Now $3.96 (Orig. $12.99)

Posted by on July 13, 2014 at 11:00 PM

The Source: Pill Bottle Magnifier (2x) Now $3.96 (Orig. $12.99)

This product is a little spark of brilliance at such a low price. Pick up a two-pack of Innovative Technology Pill Bottle Magnifiers for only $3.96, originally $12.99.

I don’t know about your family, but there are a good deal of people in my family who take medication and most of those people wear glasses. My grandparents probably could not read the instructions on a pill bottle if they tried, and I always wonder how well they remember the pharmacist or doctor’s instructions if they do not write it down. Even my mother, who really is not that old, has trouble reading a pill bottle. She also has trouble opening one: there is nothing like giving your child a childproof pill bottle to get it open! Anyway, this product is super brilliant for anyone who is far sighted or who has poor vision.

The pill bottle magnifier fits all prescription bottles, so there is no need to worry whether it will fit around yours. It has a retractable arm for easy storage if you do not want to leave it attached to your bottle. There are two magnifiers included in each package, so you are paying less than $2 apiece. These lenses provide 3x magnification so you can read your prescription off the bottle easily and you might even be able to read some of the smaller print.

There is only one review of the product so far and the reviewer said:

good quality item if you have a bad eyes
a must have for people with eye problem

In my point of view, this is totally a matter of safety. You do not want to take the wrong dosage of medication or take your medication at the wrong time. You also want to heed any warning labels on your medication so you do not affect the potency of the medication. If you cannot read the label clearly, then your medication is a risk factor. A cheap little device like this can eliminate the problem.

Now, this is a cheap accessory so it will not meet the free shipping on $30 or more minimum. However, you can get it shipped to your local store free. You might also want to check out The Source’s up to 60% off clearance sale occurring right now for any other great deals you might want to take advantage of when you order this.

The Source Canada: Nikon CoolPix P530 Only $299

Posted by on July 10, 2014 at 10:30 AM

The Source Canada: Nikon CoolPix P530 Only $299

The Source has a cool deal going on for the Nikon CoolPix P530. It is on sale for $317.99 with a regular price of $369.99, but if you add the coupon code TSP530, your price will go down to $299.99.

Of course I spent some time price comparing and researching and found this bundle from Costco for the camera, plus a few other items for $394.99. It is a good deal if you want the SD card and gadget bag, although you are essentially paying $94 for those two items, which doesn’t make any sense to me. Best Buy also has the camera on sale for $329.99, but The Source’s price still beats it. Vistek also has the CoolPix camera on sale, but for $375.99 and it is out of stock. As you can see, The Source has the best deal.

If you are looking for an inexpensive, DSLR camera with zooming capabilities, you’ve come to the right place. This camera has 42x optical zoom and 84x dynamic fine zoom. It has the vibration reduction technology that gives your photos a clear look, even if your hands are a little shaky. I get excited taking photos too! I recently bought myself a new Nikon camera, although it is a far more expensive one, as I need the option to change lenses. This one doesn’t let you do that, but if you don’t care to, I’m going to say this is a perfect camera for you. It has so many features you’ll need otherwise. I think the Nikon brand is solid and I’ve never been disappointed in what Nikon delivers.

What most cameras are coming with these days is the ability to shoot 1080p full HD video. I wish I knew that before I bought my handy cam, as there is such a thing as having too many electronic devices with you. When my son had a play at his school, I had with me: my DSLR, the telephoto lens, my handycam, plus my phone so I could take a photo or video and immediately update it on my Facebook page. How nice it would be to just carry one recording device and be done with it!

You can get free in-store pick-up or you can get it shipped to you for $4.99.

The Source Canada: $130 Off HP or Acer Laptop

Posted by on June 4, 2014 at 5:00 PM

The Source Canada: $130 Off HP or Acer Laptop

The Source Canada is offering $130 off two fantastic little entry level laptops that will serve all your needs and more. Save $130 on either the ACER V3-571-6847 or the HP Pavilion 15-E020CA.

First off, let us look at the Acer V3-571-6847, which would be my choice of the two laptops. The laptop is in “open box” condition with full warranty. Regularly, the laptop retails for $499 but The Source currently has it on sale for only $369.96. I price compared with the manufacturer themselves and they sell this exact computer for $499. This computer measures 15.6″ and features:

  • Intel core I3-2328M processor
  • 500GB hard drive
  • 6 GB RAM memory
  • and Windows 8-Iron

This is a solid computer with a good balance between speed and space. I do not know much about the Windows 8-Iron operating system, but I assume anything is an improvement on Windows 8. What really impresses me about this laptop is the price: you can pick up this laptop in mint condition with full warranty for $370. This is a little dream machine.

The second sweet little computer deal I found at The Source is on this HP Pavilion 15-E020CA laptop. It is also an “open box” model that comes with full manufacturer’s warranty. Originally, $479.99, the laptop is now on sale for $349.99. I could not find this laptop at many places, but I did locate it at Canada Computers where it was priced at $468.88 (though OOS). This beauty is also 15.6″ and features:

  • AMD Elite A6-5350M Accelerated Processor
  • 750GB hard drive
  • 4 GB RAM memory
  • and Windows 8

Comparing the two computers, the HP has a larger hard drive but smaller memory, which does affect speed. It will really depend on your own personal preference. I like a more balanced computer so I would go for the Acer, which combines decent speed with a good sized hard drive. If you tend to store a lot of music, videos, and photos on your computer (I call it digital hoarder syndrome) you might want to consider the HP which gives you an extra 250 GB hard drive for $20 less.

Both these laptops come in under $400, which is a great price for a laptop these days. With the HP at $350 and the Acer at $370, you can really pick which laptop serves your needs. No matter which laptop you choose, either laptop will come with free shipping as they cost over $20 each.

There are many more discounted open box laptops on sale at The Source Canada. Check them all out!

The Source Canada: SuperTooth Disco 2 Speaker Only $40

Posted by on June 2, 2014 at 11:30 PM

The Source Canada: SuperTooth Disco 2 Speaker Only $40

The Source Canada is selling the funky SuperTooth Disco 2 Bluetooth Speaker in black for only $40. The speaker has been refurbished but it comes with full manufacturer’s warranty so it is as good as new.

So I did some price comparing. This same speaker is $83.24 at Amazon.ca, $97.98 at Bestbuy.ca and Future Shop, and $92.99 + $6.51 shipping at Newegg.ca. The original retail price for this speaker was $99.99. Easily, The Source has the best price by far and I do not see anyone else dropping their price near this amount anytime soon.

While some people get all twitchy around refurbished products, I really like to remind them that with a non-refurbished product it was just made and shoved in a box. With a refurbished product a problem has generally already been identified and fixed, so you have a better chance of coming out with a problem free product. I have had excellent success with purchasing refurbished products to keep my expenses down. As an extra precaution there is the full manufacturer’s warranty in the instance, you do have an issue. The same as any product you buy.

This device connects to any device that is Bluetooth A2DP compatible. This sexy little portable speaker features two speakers on the front and a bass reflex system on the back. Unlike other speakers where you have to have a good stack of batteries on hand, the Disco 2 features an integrated rechargeable battery, which supports three to four hours of music at maximum-volume or up to 10 hours at moderate volume levels. If your device is not Bluetooth compatible, there is a 3.5 mm stereo jack.

One reviewer on The Source said:

I grabbed this unit on sale and I was blown away by the sound that comes out of it! All the other reviews online speak for themselves! At $40 you can’t go wrong!

With the rechargeable battery, the very reasonable price point, and the sheer stylishness of this speaker I say it is a real winner. The Source Canada is also offering free shipping to your home on orders of $20 or more right now, so it is the perfect time to buy this little device. You could even give it to your Dad for Father’s Day. Might be a nice little speaker for him to stick in his den or garage and play tunes on.

The Source Canada: $70 Off Garmin Virb True HD Action Camera (Now $260)

Posted by on May 29, 2014 at 7:30 PM

The Source Canada: $70 Off Garmin Virb True HD Action Camera (Now $260)

Perfect for anyone always on the go, the Garmin Virb True HD action camera is currently $70 off at The Source and is available for $259.99 (reg. $339.99). This could also make for the perfect Father’s Day gift! The Source Canada: $70 Off Garmin Virb True HD Action Camera (Now $260)

I price compared with action cameras at Best Buy and the cheapest I found is the Veho Muhi HD mini handsfree camcorder. While it’s certainly cheaper, the camera is only of 5MP, while the Garmin one features 15MP. I’d say that for a $60 price difference, it’s definitely worth getting the Garmin to benefit from better quality results.

Other than the image quality, an important feature that should always be considered is the battery life because you certainly don’t want the camera to shut down on you in the middle of a great moment. The Garmin Virb battery life lasts up to 3 hours, although I imagine that it can last much longer if you don’t use it continuously.

Another feature that caught my attention is that it’s waterproof. Don’t get too excited though because what they mean by that is that it can withstand an accidental drop into water of up to 30 minutes. I wouldn’t recommend testing it out but it’s still nice knowing that if your three year old happens to “accidentally” drop it into the water, then you won’t necessarily lose all of your videos or have to reinvest in a new camera, although I would definitely suggest always backing all of your videos and keeping your camera in a cool and dry place. But since I have never actually tried out this camera, here’s what one reviewer had to say about it:

I used this camera for the first time while out in the trails last week and I love it! With the slide of one large button it powers up and starts recording. No pushing a little button and looking for a light, etc.
I’ve captured more footage of just the moments I wanted to capture due to this feature! Battery life is good. The location of the micro SD under the battery is a pain but that’s all.

Be sure to also check out The Source’s Home Entertainment Clearance Event going on right now with savings of up to 40% off.

Although shipping is at a flat rate of $4.99 per order, you can also choose to pick it up in-stores absolutely free.

The Source Canada: Water Dancing Speakers $19.99

Posted by on May 28, 2014 at 9:00 PM

The Source Canada: Water Dancing Speakers $19.99

The Source Canada is selling these super cool Water Dancing Speakers for only $19.99, originally $49.99.

I price compared these speakers at Amazon.ca where a marketplace seller has them priced at $39.99. That was the only place I could really find them in Canada but most the places I saw them in the USA had them priced at $39.99 as well.

These speakers have had a lot of positive reviews at The Source Canada. Out of 73 reviews, the speakers average a 4 1/2 stars out of five. If you are looking high end sound quality, then this pair of speakers is not for you. But if you are looking for acceptable quality with a wicked lightshow… then step right up and pick up this deal.

As one reviewer said:

The way the colored water jets light up the chambers is something else. Over all these speakers do serve there purpose and are good value when on sale.

That reviewer bought his set for $30. You can not buy them for only $20 and enjoy the same awesome waterworks. The water does not just follow some randomized sequence, it actually shoots up with the beat of your tunes. Great for your own personal pleasure, or a conversational piece at a party.

The Source has a huge selection of electronics equipment, gaming products, GPS and audio equipment, computers, cameras, and a wide array of accessories.  It’s really a one stop shop for all your home electronics needs. I saw this great Canon DSLR camera, which was regularly priced at $729.99, and on sale for $549.99—a $180 savings! I also need a new shredder, and found this Fellows Powershred shredder for $129.99. With larger items like electronics, it’s easy to spend $100, so taking advantage of this deal is a great idea, since you’ll get $25 off of your next purchase. Source Canada: Kobo Mini e-Reader Only $29.98

Posted by on May 17, 2014 at 3:00 PM

Source Canada: Kobo Mini e Reader Only $29.98

There is a very hot deal at the Source right now, getting you a Kobo mini e-reader for only $29.98, and it is on today only.

The cheapest I could find this mini e-reader was $50 and I found it for as much as up to $55. This makes this quite a phenomenal deal. Like I said, it is for today only and I wouldn’t wait too long as it will sell out rather quickly if my deal spidey sense is correct.

The mini is the perfect accessory for anyone’s purse or bag, so you always have reading material ready. The screen is 5″ large, so still quite easy to read on, especially with it being non-glass and no-glare. It is a touch screen and the unit has built-in wi-fi so you are able to download even more books on the go or at home.

I recently took a business trip away where I took two flights and had lots of time waiting in between. These days airlines charge for any checked luggage, so you really need to pack what you can in the two carry-on pieces you are allowed. I had to take my five-year old laptop, which is quite heavy, plus the accessories for it and all my clothing and toiletries. My bag got quite heavy. Adding a tablet to it just might have pushed me over the edge. This little mini e-reader would have been perfect just to hold in my hand or in my small purse or even in a pocket. And for the price, it is a no-brainer of an item to buy.

You’ll also score free shipping on this one, as the cost of the item is over $20.

The Source Canada: Daily Deal Event

The Source Canada is hosting a daily deal event where you can save extra on one item per day for today, and the next three days.

Today’s deal is $10 off the 2GB iPod Shuffle. Originally $49.99, the iPod shuffle is now only $39.99. Currently yellow, blue, green, purple, and pink are still in stock.

I have the schedule of deals for the next three days as well.

On May 9th, you will be able to buy the Headrush Backbeat Bluetooth speaker in either black or white for only $39.99, regular price is $99.99.

On May 10th, you will be able to buy the 16GB Iconia 7.9″ tablet 5-point capacitive touch with android 4.2 Jelly Bean for only $169.99 (regular price: $199.99).  This boy comes fully loaded with an Intel Atom Z2560 dual core processor, 1024MB LPDDR2 RAM, and 16GB internal storage which is expandable to 32GB via microSD card (sold separately).

On May 11th, you will be able to buy the FinePix S8600 16MP camera with camera bag bundle for $149.99. If you were to buy these items separately from The Source they would cost you $224.98. Oddly enough this deal is already live and sold out so I am hoping they restock it for the 11th.

Shipping is $4.99 or free to any store.

The Source Canada: Hipstreet ATOM 7” 8GB Tablet Only $49.99

The Source Canada: Hipstreet ATOM 7” 8GB Tablet Only $49.99

The Source Canada is selling the Hipstreet ATOM 7″ 8GB Tablet for $49.99. Currently they are also offering free shipping on orders of $20 or more (through May 7th) so the tablet will ship for free to you. While this product isn’t exactly on sale, it is a phenomenal price for a tablet and thus I am calling this baby a deal.

So, the natural thing to do in a situation like this would be to price compare, right? The problem with that is that Amazon Canada, Best Buy, Future Shop, Newegg,ca, Shop.ca, and Tiger Direct Canada ALL do not carry this tablet. In fact, outside of The Source it seems impossible to find this tablet available in Canada. If you price compare with other Hipstreet models you will find that this tablet is about $30 less than any other models, even other 7″ tablets around 8GBs.

This little tablet is packed full of features. It is a full 7″ touchscreen tablet with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Don’t let the 8GB internal storage scare you, it is expandable up to 32GB with a microSD card (buy that separately).

The tablet comes with a 0.3MP front-facing camera, built-in speaker, and a mic for keeping in contact with friends and family. Your tablet won’t be slower than molasses in January either with a 1.2GHz CPU, 512MB RAM, and 400MHz GPU.

I think this beauty is a real value buy so check it out!

The Source Canada: Instudio Cayman Wireless Refurb. Speakers Now $32

Posted by on April 26, 2014 at 4:30 PM

The Source Canada: Instudio Cayman Wireless Refurb. Speakers Now $32

The Source Canada has a rather decent deal on Instudio Cayman Wireless Indoor / Outdoor Speakers that have been refurbished. Originally $199.99, these speakers are now only $31.98.

These speakers are a great deal for a set of wireless speakers that work both indoors and outdoors. You can stick these on either side of your couch or on opposite corners of a room to mimic surround sound when you listen to your music. I used to put one in the washroom so I could continue to listen to my favourite tunes while brushing my teeth or having a bath.

You can also take these speakers outside. Put them on your deck during a BBQ or have them on your driveway while washing your car. These babies have a 50m (150 feet) operating range, a two channel (transmitter), 40Hz-45Hz frequency, 84 db sensitivity, and 4 ohm impedance. The water-resistant design lets you plop them beside a pool without worry. Easily adjust the volume via the handy remote control and built-in volume controls for separate speaker control.

Each speaker uses six AA batteries that are not included, or an AC adapter. We (and the company) highly recommend getting rechargeable batteries.

Enjoy free shipping on this item as it costs over $20.

The Source Canada: Kobo Aura eReader Only $85

The Source Canada: Kobo Aura eReader Only $85

Kobo has put their Aura eReader on sale at a number of retailers and why all the prices are similar, your best deal will be at The Source, because you can add the coupon code TS942 at checkout and get another $25 off, spending only $84.99. The original price for this is $149.99.

This is a fabulous deal that I’m sure won’t last too long, so I expect to see some comments below with sad smileys telling me it is sold out. This blog post is almost a 2-in-1 deal post. You were already saving $40 on the Kobo Aura, but then you added the coupon code, which is $25 off any $100 purchase and saved yourself $65 instead. You can also come back and make any other purchase you like to get the $25 off something else. The coupon does say one purchase per person, but it is always worth trying out.

The Kobo Aura eReader (black) sounds like an awesome machine I’d love to have in my bag. With a 6″ ClarityScren and the latest e ink technology, reading on the eReader is easy on your eyes, day or night or bring sunshine. You can access literally millions of titles over the integrated wi-fi and even track your reading stats so you can pat yourself on the back afterwards.

You can ship to your local store for free and pick up your Aura there or you can pay $4.99 and get it right to your door. I like both options.

The Source: Ematic 7 HD Quad Core 8GB Tablet $88 (Save $62)

The Source Canada has an enchanting deal on an Ematic  7” HD quad core tablet with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and Google Play. Originally $149.99, the tablet is now on sale for $87.99.

The device comes with a 1.5GHz quad core processor with a dedicated GPU. It stores plenty of apps and games on its 8GB of flash memory space that you can expand up to 32GB via its microSD card slot. Those cards aren’t too expensive either.

Use the 5GB of included cloud storage to stream your music and movies to your tablet also. The screen is a 7″ HD 1024×600 capacitive touchscreen. An excellent device for this price. You can choose from black, red, blue, yellow, green, or pink.

I price compared with a few places to make sure you were getting the best deal. I found the device on the Amazon.ca marketplace for $124.99. I found a bunch on eBay.ca for anywhere between $120 to $160. I then found them in stock at Sears.ca for $107.99 but expect a $4 handling charge and then shipping unless you want to pick it  up at your local store. Either way, The Source Canada has by far the best deal.

Get free shipping on orders of $20 or more.
