Get The Secret Of Monkey Island For Only $4.99 On Steam Weekend Deal!

Get The Secret Of Monkey Island For Only $4.99 On Steam Weekend Deal!

Avast me hearties! Steam’s special deal this weekend is a half price classic – The Secret Of Monkey Island for only $4.99us! Awesome!

For those of you who don’t know, the Secret of Monkey Island is an early 1990′s point-and-click adventure from LucasArts. It was recently given a bit of an update and graphical makeover, and is really popular now with the Monkey Island fans.

I’ve played all the Monkey Island games, they were a favorite of mine, back in the day. They are a pleasure to play, really good fun, and laugh out loud hilarious. I’ve just bought this one for old-times-sake, and I’ve just lost half my day playing it!

It can get a bit frustrating at times when you cannot figure out a puzzle. However, in this edition, they’ve added a “hint” option. You press H and the game gives you a clue as what to do next. This might seem like a bit of a copout, but I’ve used it a few times already. I suck!

If you love Monkey Island, you gotta buy this!

P.S. You fight like a dairy farmer.

Steam Weekend Deal: 20 PC Games For $54! (Inc Bioshock, Prey)

Steam Weekend Deal: 20 PC Games For $54! (Inc Bioshock, Prey)

The weekend PC games deal from Steam is one worth blogging about! They are selling the HUGE 2K games pack until Monday the 6thof July 2009.

As you can see, you get TONS of games for only $53.99. You simply buy them online from Steam, they’re linked to your Steam account, and you can just download them as and when you want to play them.

Of course, the list of available games isn’t amazing, but I can say that there are a few gems in there. Bioshock is an absolutely excellent first person shooter, one of the best I’ve played since Half Life 2. If you haven’t played it, you really have to give it a try before Bioshock 2 comes out!

Prey is another pretty good game from the list. I played it, and enjoyed it too. Although I read reports that Prey made a lot of people sick! It’s a part of the game physics, you get to walk up walls and things, and apparently it caused nausea and possible barfage. Still, worth trying just to see if it makes you vom!

Unreal Tournament Black Free Weekend On Steam!

Posted by Anna Waters on May 30, 2009 at 6:50 AM

Unreal Tournament Black Free Weekend On Steam!

If you’ve been following my blog, you might have noticed in the past that I like PC games, especially first person shooters. When I see a particularly good deal, I like to share it with you guys! I’ve noticed that this weekend on Steam games, you can download and play Unreal Tournament Black for free!

I actually bought the full game a few months ago. I’ve been playing co-op missions with my partner to try and get through the game. When you’re playing the team games, you own team mates are so crap that there is no chance you can win some of the levels. But when playing in co-op mode, at least I have one real life smart person to play with.

I haven’t tried playing it online with total unknown people though, I’m not really into that. I’d much prefer to play with people I actually know in real life.

The original Unreal Tournament was one of the first ever “shooty death kill” games I’d ever played. I loved it to pieces! I just loved the thrill of head shot, double kill, multi kill, ultra kill, GOD LIKE! I spent countless hours playing on LANs with friends. The flak cannon was my weapon of choice, I was utterly lethal with it. I had played subsequent Unreal Tournament versions but didn’t really get into them so much. The introduction of the vehicles kind of annoyed me. Unreal Tournament Black Free Weekend On Steam!

But in Unreal Tournament Black, it kind of feels like the gameplay has gone back to its roots. There are vehicles in it too, but I actually have good fun in them. There’s nothing more satisfying than squishing an enemy by running them over!

If you like the sound of it, you should give it a try this weekend, and see if you think it is worth buying.

Steam Free Games: Left4Dead Trial! Kill Those Zombies!

Posted by Anna Waters on April 30, 2009 at 2:33 PM

I’m going to blog this! Some of you may not know, I’m a bit of a gamer! I don’t know how many lady gamers there are out there, but we seem to be few and far between!!

Steam Free Games: Left4Dead Trial! Kill Those Zombies!

My fave type of games are action-packed first person shooters, and Left4Dead is exactly my cup of tea. This Friday, Steam are offering a free 24 hour trial of the game, you can download and play it for free!

Click here to see the details on Steam.

If you’re going to try it, I highly recommend pre-loading it and getting it ready to go ASAP. Then, it will be ready to play from 12am GMT – so somtime this evening for us Canadians. I think that Steam are doing this freaky Friday as they have just released the Survival pack, an add-on to the game. I haven’t tried it yet, but it seems that you are attacked by a constant stream of zombies and you have to stay alive as long as possible.

I first played Left4Dead a few months ago when Steam had a free trial, similar to this one. I was hooked right away!! I instantly bought it that weekend, through Steam.

    Things I like:

Achievements: I love getting the achievements! Some of them are really difficult, if not impossible to achieve. There is no chance I will be able to play an entire campaign with no survivors taking friendly fire damage. I constantly shoot my team mates in the head. Not very friendly, I know!! Sometimes a random achievement pops up, and I have to go see what it is. I think “Brain Salad” was one of the recent ones… it’s pretty easy to get though, only 100 head shots!

Grenades: I love throwing a grenade when the horde is attacking! It’s such fun! See all the undead scamper to their deaths!! MWHhhhhaa haa!

Automatic shotgun: It really is my fave weapon. There is nothing more satisfying than shooting a zombie in the face and watching him die horribly in front of you. No? Maybe that’s just me then.

Unpredictability: The AI director for the zombies in Left4Dead is excellent. You never know where they are going to spawn, or when the horde will attack. This makes for excellent gameplay, and you can play the same levels over and over and never get bored.

Things I hate:Steam Free Games: Left4Dead Trial! Kill Those Zombies!

The Witch: That damn bitch! You don’t want to go near that straggly haired little munchkin! She’ll just bitch-whip you to death in an instant. You cannot run away, you cannot fight her off, it’s a no-win situation. That bitch.

Lack Of Ammo: Sometimes I’ve been over friendly with the bullet-love and I run out of ammo on my main gun, so I have to switch to dual pistols. That sucks.

When I first played Left4Dead, I played the single player campaigns. Since then, I’ve been playing it in co-op mode, sometimes with my partner here in the home office, sometimes with online friends. It is definitely much better in co-op mode. I don’t end up shouting at the AI! It’s much easier to co-ordinate who’s doing what, etc. For example, when we enter a new room, I always go left and my man always goes to the right to clear all the zombies. How romantic, eh?

The Orange Box For Only $9.99 This Weekend!

Posted by Anna Waters on April 25, 2009 at 7:51 PM

I’m a bit late in posting this considering the deal went up on Friday, but I’ve been socializing a little bit too much – sorry for the delay!

Game-loving Bargainmoosers might be interested in this deal from Steam.com. They do a special deal every weekend, in which they heavily discount a particular game. This weekend, it’s the Valve software favorite, The Orange Box!! You can buy it for only $9.99US! This is an excellent price, IMO!!

    Contains:

    • Half Life 2
    • Half Life 2: Episode 1
    • Half Life 2: Episode 2
    • Lost Coast
    • Portal
    • Team Fortress 2

Personally, the Half Life series is one of my favorite of all time! The original Half Life PC game was one of the first computer games I ever played. I was forcibly introduced to it by an ex-boyfriend, and it kind of got under my skin. I was Gordon Freeman for hours upon hours. That crowbar was my best friend. Head crabs were in my thoughts and in my dreams. Zombies were hiding round every corner.

As graphics got better, computers got faster, and my disposable income increased, I went on to buy Half Life 2, then Episode 1, and then The Orange Box. Half Life 2 was simply excellent as well, following on from the great gameplay of the first in the series. The Orange Box For Only $9.99 This Weekend!

I remember I bought a new computer just because I knew Half Life 2 was coming out. Well, I kind of wanted a new computer anyway, and Half Life 2 was just a good excuse to treat myself!! I spent quite a lot of moolah on that graphics card! The first time I loaded up Half Life 2 and saw the rendering of the water in the boating levels, I was just gobsmacked. Again, I was lost to the world for at least a solid week while I played the game through from start to finish.

Episode 1 and 2 followed on with the excellent levels and gameplay. Superb. Check out this recent video I found on Youtube, Escape From City 17. It’s an excellent little video that some guys have put together on a minimal budget to mimic the game.

I don’t have much to say about Team Fortress 2, in that I’ve never really played it. I do know that there is a massive online community which simply adores that game.

Regarding Portal – this little game is just superb. The humor just hits the spot for me. I found it hilarious, especially GLaDOS’ encouraging comments. Plus, the theme tune is just the catchiest little number. Did you know that you can even buy your very own companion cube from the Valve store?

Remember everyone, The Cake Is A Lie.
