Steam: Free Play Week + 75% Off ORION: Dino Horde

Steam Powered has some wicked promotions sometimes and I wish I had the time to take advantage of every single one of them. Yesterday they started a free play week for ORION: Dino Horde where you can play absolutely free till the 26th of August. Also, during this time, you can buy the game for 75% off the original price. Originally $14.99, you can get the game for only $3.74 (USD).

Hello, wicked deal! This is one of those great try it before you buy it offers. Play the game, for free. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it! If you fall head-over-heels, the ‘I am going to propose to this game’ kind of love for this game, then get the sweet deal of 75% off the price. You would then pay less than $4 CAN to call the game your very own. How sweet is that?

Here is a little ‘about’ the game to wet your appetite:

ORION: Dino Horde’ is an indie Sci-Fi shooter (FPS/TPS) that seamlessly blends together incredible visuals and addictive combat. It puts you and your friends together into intense, cinematic battles using some of the most incredible weaponry and amazing vehicles in which you must work or compete against one another to accomplish mission objectives, explore giant worlds and survive the devastating Dinosaur Horde.

Now I want to watch Jurassic Park again. Lock and load, baby!

(Expiry: Both offers, the free play and the 75% off, end 26 August at 10AM Pacific time)

EB Games Canada: Trade Used Games Towards Steam Credits & Get Extra 30%

EB Games Canada: Trade Used Games Towards Steam Credits & Get Extra 30%

Feeling a little guilty about leaving your gaming PC sitting alone in the corner while you play away on your console? Well, trade in some of your console games towards Steam credits, and get an extra 30% at EB Games Canada!

This deal is perfectly timed because it lines up with Steam’s big summer sale brought to you by the inimitable . I didn’t get around to the sale yesterday and missed picking up x-Com and Borderlands 2 for $10 each! Don’t be like me, go and check out this sale right now! Actually, go check it out after you trade in your old console games at EB. Right now, you can get an extra 30% of credit if you put it towards a Steam Wallet Card.

They are only accepting games from modern consoles for this deal, so think PS3, XBox360, PSVita, WiiU or 3DS. I, of course, can’t really take place in this deal, because I only buy games I really, really dig, stuff I want to keep in my collection. I have friends who buy every military FPS that comes out. For them, trade-ins aren’t a big deal. I don’t feel like any of my games are trade-inable because they are all some of my favourite games. I even have PS2 and PS1 games that, if you offered to buy from me, I wouldn’t sell.

And for all you console gamers out there who have resisted PC gaming for years, like I had, this is a good chance to dust off the mouse and give it a try. It probably won’t replace your console, but it’s a very nice addition!

Console or PC? FIGHT! (In the comments below…)

Steam Powered: Huge Summer Sale On Games

Posted by on July 13, 2013 at 7:00 PM

Steam Powered: Huge Summer Sale On Games

Steam Powered is hosting a huge summer getaway sale with mega savings on big time games!

There are sales that last through the entire length of the sale, and then there are daily deals that are only on for – you guessed it – one day. There are also flash sales which last for just eight hours!

One of the one day deals today is 66% off Might and Magic Heroes VI Gold. Originally $29.99 USD, it is on sale for $10.19 USD. My husband and I have played Heroes of Might and Magic V and have been watching for VI to drop in price. We were considering buying it yesterday but are so glad we didn’t, because instead of getting it for 33% off, we just got it for 66% off! Totally stoked to get a new game to play. Hours of entertainment (weeks!) for just over $10.

If you want up to 75% off games, you need to catch them in a daily deal. Other than that you can still save up to 50% off games, which is still absolutely fabulous.

All prices are in USD. Steam Powered requires you have Steam installed to play the games. Individual deals will end at different times.

(Expiry: Sale ends 22nd July 2013)

Amazon.com: Gaijin Tripped Out Pack – All 4 Bit.Trip. Games (Mac or PC) For $10

Posted by on June 21, 2013 at 10:30 AM

Amazon.com: Gaijin Tripped Out Pack All 4 Bit.Trip. Games (Mac or PC) For $10

Trip to the beat of the bits, maaaaaan! Or just trip out over getting four of the most innovative musical games in recent memory!

So, what is the Gaijin Tripped Out Pack? Sounds kinda weird, right? Well, it is. The pack includes four games called Bit.Trip.Beat, Bit.Trip.Core, Bit.Trip.Void, and Bit.Trip.Runner. These games are the first four in a seven game series and they are wwwaaayyy weird. I don’t even really know how to describe them. I guess musical pong would be the best way, but I’ll just show you a video instead.

…And this is just the first one. The other iterations include some very neat gameplay dynamics and of course more 8-bit visuals. The game sells from Amazon.com (not .CA) and is a PC digital download. The regular price for this pack is $39.99, but you save $30 and only have to pay out $9.99. The individual games are $9.99 each on Steam.

Valve makes some of the most beloved video games out there today and GameFly is bringing you a bunch of them for super cheap!

For the people not in the know, the Orange Box is a collection of five games from Valve. The description from GameFly is as follows:

Steam: 20% Off Pre-Order of Prime World: Defenders & Beta Access & DLC (Pay $12)

Posted by on May 3, 2013 at 5:00 PM

Steam: 20% Off Pre Order of Prime World: Defenders & Beta Access & DLC (Pay $12)

This isn’t like the tower defence games you remember from back in the day. This is awesome and it’s from Steam!

The game is normally $14.99 but the 20% off saves you $3 and you only pay $11.99. You also get some cool sounding DLC and access to the beta. This is pre-order so the game only activates on 21st May 2013. It’s a digital download for PC or Mac so there is no shipping.

So when I say this is awesome, I mean it. You just need to look at the list of features to see that. The whole list is a bit long but I included it because I think it explains the game quite well.

  • A mix of tower defense strategy with collectible card mechanics!
  • No micro-transactions or additional payments!
  • Random cards drop means different strategy for every player!
  • Upgrade and mix cards for maximum destruction!
  • Custom deck lets you pick perfect cards for each mission!
  • Perk system for your hero!
  • Story-based campaign with 23 missions!
  • Mission generator offers infinite replayability!
  • Enemy buildings in game heal and buff attacking creeps!
  • 20 towers, each with up to 25 upgrades!
  • 11 magic spells that can be upgraded too!
  • 36 types of enemies!
  • Bosses, mini-bosses and huge bosses.
  • Flying battleship!

And if that wasn’t enough, here’s a trailer!

The game seems really innovative in a genre that really is kind of boring. There is only so much you can do with a tower defence game but these guys have created what looks like a compelling experience.

Steam: 75% Off Portal 2 + Awesome Deals on Other Portal Related Software

Remember back two years ago when everyone lost their everloving minds over Portal 2? Yeah. So do I. Remember when you never bought it? Yeah. So do I. Remember when Steam put Portal 2 on sale for 75% off? No? Well, you’re gonna!

Seriously, remember when everyone went nuts over this game? It won dozens of Game of the Year awards and pretty much swept the Game Spot awards. Here are the awards it won from Game Spot:

Best PS3 game
Best Puzzle Game
Best New Character
Best Voice Acting
Funniest
Best Multiplayer Co-op
Most Memorable Moments
Best Ending
Best Writing/Dialog
Best Puzzles

That looks suspiciously like someone was paid off but believe it or not, the game was actually that good. You can get this fantastic game for only $4.99. It was originally $19.99 so you’re saving $15. But that’s not all! They have more deals! You can get to all of these deals by clicking the link above.

  • Portal 2 – Two Pack – Was $35.99 – Save $26.25 – Now $8.74
  • Portal Bundle – Was $24.99 – Save $18.75 – Now $6.24
  • Portal 2 – The Final Hours – Was $1.99 – Save $1.50 – Now $0.49
The real deal in the whole thing, I think, is the Portal Bundle. If you haven’t played the original Portal (which I am very ashamed to say I have not), this is your chance to pick it up for super cheap!

Please note all prices are in USD.

(Expiry: 22nd April 2012)

Have you played portal? Portal 2? Was it worthy of GotY in your opinion? Hit us up in the comments and let us know!

Steam: 75% Off Orcs Must Die! 2 Digital Download (PC)

Posted by on April 3, 2013 at 8:00 PM

Steam: 75% Off Orcs Must Die! 2 Digital Download (PC)

Listen, we all know Orcs Must Die, but why must it cost so much to kill said orcs? It never made sense to me and, apparently, never made sense to Steam either because they are selling it for 75% off!

I first heard about this game (I think) on the now defunct Game On! show on TWiT Networks and it looked really cool. Actually, I think they were talking about the original Orcs Must Die! Basically it’s a tower defense game with totally new mechanics. Wikipedia, the book of knowledge, has this to say about it’s predecessor but it still holds true to the second:

It is a tower defense game that eschews the traditional top-down view of similar games, instead using a third-person action-oriented viewpoint

It’s really hard to explain this game in words, so here, watch a gameplay video of the Orcs Must Die! 2 demo with some explanatory commentary!

Pretty awesome, eh? Yeah, I thought so too! This is a great game and for only $3.75, you can’t miss. It’s a steal at the original $15 but saving $11.25 isn’t a bad thing!

Prices are in USD.

Steam (US): Weekend Deals 50 – 66% Off

Posted by on March 7, 2013 at 11:00 PM

Steam (US): Weekend Deals 50 66% Off

Steam Powered has two weekend deals for PC computer games: (1) get 50% off Football Manager 2013 – Originally $39.99, it is on sale for $19.99. (2) Get 66% off the Max Payne 3 originally $39.99, it is on sale for $13.57.

I’m not very familiar with either of these games – in fact I have only heard of Max Payne and I am completely unfamiliar with Football Manager. However, Max Payne has received a 87/100 metascore which is pretty good. According to reviewer Vandal Online:

Fans of Max Payne in PC can be happy. Rockstar has done its homework and this is not just a port. All the virtues of the console version are here, but its graphics have been greatly improved and with a powerful machines we can enjoy an spectacle. If you like action games and your PC is up-to-date, this is a great acquisition.

Football Manager also has a metascore of 86/100 which lands it in the ‘very solid game’ camp. If you love football you might wast to give this a try, according to reviewer Vandal Online:

With the biggest database of football players and teams, Football Manager 2013 brings back the best of the previous episode to improve and expand it. The only thing we could complain about is the 3D graphics, which we consider should have been better, but still it leaves us with a feeling of almost perfection.

All prices in USD.

Batman Arkham City Half Price On Steam This Weekend

Posted by on May 4, 2012 at 5:00 PM

Batman Arkham City Half Price On Steam This Weekend

For this weekend only on Steam, they’re offering the digital download of the popular game Batman: Arkham City for half price.

Previously, the full game alone was $29.99, and it’s now $14.99. If you opt for the bundle with some extra DLC, it ‘s down to $29.99.

This deal is for PC users only, and you can see the full spec required on the above link.

I’ve played the predecessor to this game, Arkham Asylum, and it was great fun. However, as the game was a console port, I don’t think the PC based controls really showed me the full experience. There was a lot of keyboard mashing during the fight scenes, with an AWFUL lot of slamming of the space bar. This time, when I play Arkham City, I am going to plug a gamepad into my PC to get a better experience of the game.

In the first game, I particularly enjoyed finding all the Riddler’s clues, and exploring the asylum. I hope there’s more of the same in this sequel!

I’ve just purchased this on Steam myself, so it will be on my to-do list this coming weekend, for a bit of downtime!
