Staples Canada: Norton Internet Security 2012, 3-User $39.99 (Save $50)

Posted by on September 6, 2012 at 6:00 PM

Staples Canada: Norton Internet Security 2012, 3 User $39.99 (Save $50)

Staples Canada has a fabulous deal on Norton Internet Security 2012 with Norton Utilities, 3-User. Regularly priced at $89.99, it is on sale for $39.99.

This product is Bilingual, so whether your first language is English or Canadian French, pick it up.

Now, personally, I hate Norton: from the days where the system was almost as bad as the viruses it would remove. However, I am certainly not the only opinion out there. here is a review of the products from a long time Norton user:

I have been purchasing both products since inception. I especially like the removal of Internet traces. The Internet Security works well in the background. I couldn’t be happier with these utilities. The combination of both utilities beautifully meets my PC needs. I have used Norton products for about approximately 21 years. For me, no other product comes close.

So there you have it. Besides, at $40 you get 3 licenses which means you can protect 3 computers for that price. That is extremely reasonable. I price compared with Amazon which has the product listed at $79.99, without Norton Utilities. There is no question this is a good deal.

Up to 45% off Cyberlink Software + Free Bonus Software (Save up to $68)

Posted by on August 18, 2012 at 9:00 AM

Up to 45% off Cyberlink Software + Free Bonus Software (Save up to $68)

On top of the deep discounts that CyberLink is offering for its back to school deals, they are bundling a bunch of free software. If you need some media software but don’t want to shell out some major cash, these are the folks to go to.

Here are the deals. Some of them come with free bonus software but I’m only going to include the main software here. I’ll include the bonuses later.

Like I said earlier, some of these come with free software. PowerDVD 12 Ultra comes with PowerDVD Remote, PowerDVD Mobile and Power2Go which is $74.93 in FREE software. The other one that comes with some freebies is PowerDirector 10 Ultra which comes with Travel Pack and LabelPrint. That ends up being $72.90 in FREE software.

I like CyberLink’s business strategy. They know people either don’t want to or can’t shell out hundreds of dollars for expensive Multimedia software such as Photoshop or Premiere. Now admittedly the software isn’t going to be as good as the higher end packages but we don’t all need that.

They are offering these sales under a back-to-school deal which, at first, I thought was odd. Seriously? Back-to-school? Like you need video editing software to go to college! But then it hit me. Well, two things hit me. First, how many people in high school and college think like me? I think a lot. Having a nicely edited photo or video component to a report or presentation can’t hurt you. The other thing I realized is that the level of talent has gone way up. When I was in school, video editing took skills. It still does, of course, but it seems like many more people are doing it.

In any event, these deals are awesome. Pick em up, impress the teacher.

Amazon Canada: Nuance Dragon Naturally Speaking V11 for $29.98 (Save $67.72)

Posted by on August 13, 2012 at 5:00 AM

Amazon Canada: Nuance Dragon Naturally Speaking V11 for $29.98 (Save $67.72)

Stop  typing like a sucker and start using your voice. Do almost everything you normally do by typing and clicking using Nuance’s speech recognition software.

This software and the included headset ship for free from Amazon Canada since they cost over $25.

In the days before Siri on the iPhone, Nuance’s iOS version of this program was basically the king of the heap as far as voice control went. This is the full blown, much more powerful, desktop PC version of the software. Keep in mind that this is Version 11 and Version 12 is releasing on 15th August 2012. That is why it’s so cheap, I suspect. The software is really expensive normally so this is a good chance to pick it up cheap, even if it is technically the old version of the software.

The software is incredibly good at understanding what you are saying and I’ve heard a lot of people say that they use Dragon to dictate entire letters and long documents with very few typos. Obviously a blind person would have troubles using a keyboard and mouse and Dragon is a great way to replace those tools.

Even if you aren’t gonig to use it for something as important as computer accessibility, at $30 you can pick up a copy and just play around with it. Use it to write some emails or even control a media PC attached to your TV, from your couch.

NCIX: $25 Gift Card & Free Shipping w/Microsoft Office Home & Business

Posted by on August 11, 2012 at 9:00 AM

NCIX: $25 Gift Card & Free Shipping w/Microsoft Office Home & Business

You need an office suite for your home, and for your business. Why not get Office 2010 Home and Business? And while you’re at it, get free shipping AND a $25 gift card.

The Home and Business editions cost $209.98 and come with a $25 gift card and free shipping. The Professional edition costs $439.98, comes with a $30 gift card and free shipping.

If you’re looking at getting Microsoft Office, there is no reason not to get this. You get the gift card and if you order anything else with your office product key, you get free shipping. This is a key for a download, not a physical disk. There are some rules so make sure you read them.

I really like this kind of deal. It isn’t like they’re trying to get you to buy something that you don’t really need, it’s like they’re rewarding you for buying the product at their store instead of elsewhere. Of course every aspect of this deal is meant to make you buy more.

First, they give you free shipping on something that barely costs anything to be shipped. So what do you do, you go shopping of course. You don’t want to give up your free shipping on a product key card. Maybe you get a USB key, a Blu-Ray Player, a memory card for your camera. Suddenly you’ve spent another $200.

And then there is the gift card. The amount is, I’m assuming, lower than their average purchase. They know you won’t come on the website and buy $24.32 of goods. They know you are much more likely to buy a $500 laptop and put your $25 card on it.

Microsoft Store Canada has announced their Back to School deal. Get $20 off Office Home and Student 2010 (3 PC version).

    • PowerPoint 2010

Window 8 Pro upgrade for $14.99

Posted by on August 3, 2012 at 5:00 PM

Window 8 Pro upgrade for $14.99

Need a computer now but don’t want to break the bank to upgrade later? Bargainmoose has got the hookups.

Microsoft is really running after Apple lately and this offer is just one of the ways they are doing it. If you buy a qualifying PC between 2nd, June 2012 and 31st, January 2013, you can get a super cheap upgrade to Windows 8. You should read through their Program Information and their FAQ just to make sure you get the deal. If you want to make it real safe though, buy a PC directly through the Microsoft upgrade offer on a computer store website. That way you make sure the products you are looking at are eligible.

Lucky for you we have one of those links for you right here. Tiger Direct has a section with all the eligible products.

I’m not going to lie to you beautiful people. Microsoft and I haven’t seen eye-to-eye for quite a while. I can, however, admit it when they come out with a product that isn’t trash. Windows 7 is certainly not trash. That being said, there is always a time to move on. In all honesty, based on what I’ve seen, I probably wont upgrade my wife’s computer to Windows 8.

You know what though? I sit atop my elitist nerd tower and cast judgement upon the non-elitist nerds. My opinion and moral hang-ups aren’t yours so maybe you really want Windows 8 and that’s fine. If you do, seriously, get all up on this deal.

    Amazon Canada: Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 (3 Users) – Now $29.95 | Was $60

Posted by on August 3, 2012 at 9:00 AM

Amazon Canada: Kaspersky Anti Virus 2012 (3 Users) Now $29.95 | Was $60

If you own a PC, you need Anti-Virus software. That is just a reality, an unfortunate one because it admits to the world that you believe that there is some idiot out there who has nothing better to do with his time than make viruses to invade your computer. What has humanity come to?

Either way, you need yourself a good anti-virus system. Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 is a great option for an anti-virus, that is currently on sale for $29.95, 50% off the regular price of $59.95 at Amazon.ca.

This comes with the ability to have three users: so technically I could stick it on both my parent’s laptops and an extra computer. If you divide the cost by 3 ($29.95/3) you get a mere $9.98 a user. Excellent deal. Compatable with Windows 7 / XP/ Vista.

This anti-virus software, though you may not have heard of it before, is rather well thought of. The reviewers on Amazon.com have given the software a 4/5 star rating with 168 reviews.

Of course this will ship for free since it costs a bit over $25. Take advantage of this great deal and protect yourself!

    Save $200 on AutoCAD LT 2013 for PC @ Amazon.ca (Now $999)

Posted by on July 29, 2012 at 9:00 AM

    Save $200 on AutoCAD LT 2013 for PC @ Amazon.ca (Now $999)

Draw like a pro! You can get AutoCAD LT 2013 for less than a grand at Amazon – down $200 from $1200!

For all the AutoCAD dorks out there, I apologize for the “draw” comment above. Please don’t flame me! Anywho, if anyone ever thought I was posting deals specifically to get sales and make money for me and my boss, this should disprove that notion.

This is the latest version of the lesser version of AutoCAD and Amazon is selling it for $999.98. That is an absolutely fantastic deal. I looked around for better deals but I couldn’t find any. I actually had troubles finding (legit) sites selling it at all other than AutoDesk, the makers of AutoCAD.

I’m not even going to explain what AutoCAD is. If you don’t know, you don’t want or need it. If you want or need it, you already know what it is. Suffice to say it is a very expensive piece of software for drafting. You can design buildings, bolts, cell phones, basically anything with it.
