    Beauty Deal Weekly Roundup

Every week we round up the latest beauty deals, coupon codes and printable coupons, and put them all in one place for easy access. This week you will find everything from free gifts with purchase, to free shipping or free samples. All of the deals posted here are coupon codes or printable coupons this week because there are just so many out there.

Here is a look at some of the deals you will find this week:

These are just some of the awesome deals and coupons you will find on beauty this week. You will notice more than 1 coupon for some of the stores.  The reason I did that is so you can see that there are many more deals posted on the coupons forum than just this.  In fact, you will probably find 2 or 3 different coupons per store.  This way, you can choose which one best suits your shopping needs.  Make sure to check out the coupon section daily for more printable coupons and coupon codes before you shop.

Shoppers Drug Mart: Spend your Points Event

Posted by on September 7, 2012 at 4:00 PM

Shoppers Drug Mart: Spend your Points Event

Shoppers Drug Mart has an awesome Bonus Redemption weekend coming up that is a little out of the ordinary.  The redemption levels are increased this weekend only for us to optimize our savings! Make sure to stop by Shoppers Drug mart September 8th & 9th to redeem your points.

Here are some examples at some of the regular redemption levels compared to this weekend:

    • Redeem 30,000 points and get up to $40 off /This weekend redeem just 25,000 for $50 (get an extra $10 for 5,000 less points)
    • Redeem 50,000 points and get up to $85 off / This weekend redeem 50,000 for $110 (get an extra $25)
    • Redeem 95,000 points and get up to $170 off / This weekend redeem 95,000 for $220 (get an extra $50)

If you are a SDM points collector like I am I wait specifically for weekends like this to get the most from my money.  I wrote a while back on how to get the most for your points but because this weekend is a redemption, I thought I would just refresh your memory with a few quick tips.

Wait for the top 2 levels of redemption: It can take a while to get to the top 2 levels of redemption but waiting until your points reach that mark is key.  They almost never have a bonus redemption with anything but the 2 top levels of redemption amounts.  That means if you cash out your rewards every time you hit the $10 or $30 mark, you will only save that amount of money. If you can wait until you hit the highest 2 levels (shown on the back of your receipt or online), then every couple of months they will do a bonus redemption and make the value back much higher.  This means that you will get more free groceries/items for your points.

Use Coupons: I make sure to check the Shoppers Drug Mart flyer for sales and match any printable grocery coupons I have to those sales.  Since the coupons are treated like money and taken off your total, you will be able to get more for your points.  For example, say a tube of tooth paste is price at $2 and you have a $1 coupon for it, that means if you are redeeming $90 instead of that item being $2 of your $90 it will just be $1.  Using coupons on redemption days is a must for me.  The last redemption I did, I used about $35 in coupons meaning instead of $200 free items I really got $235! It pays to use coupons!

Shop early or very late: Since the Redemption days are only 2 days each time, popular sale items go very fast (especially if there is a coupon to go with the item).  I try to shop either as early as possible (so I know that the item I am looking for will be there) or late at night (because at the 24 hour locations the items will be restocked late).

    Saving Money on your Groceries

Posted by on July 1, 2012 at 8:00 PM

    Saving Money on your Groceries

Groceries for your family are an expense that you just cannot eliminate.  There are however, some easy key things you can do to make sure your families grocery bill will be as low as it can be.  That way,  that you can put your money into savings or in other places that you need it.

Coupons: I hate to state the obvious but coupons are the number one way to save money on things that you buy at the grocery store. There are so many places to get coupons these days.  A lot of stores and pharmacies have tear pads that you can take a couple of coupons that you might need.  Always remember coupon etiquette is to only take what you will use.  I would say the absolute max is 5 if you are wanting to trade a few.  The best place to find coupons is the bargainmoose coupon forum.  We update coupons daily whether it be printable coupons, new coupons to order online or coupon codes for online shopping.

Customer Appreciation Days: Usually the first Tuesday of every month, places like Safeway, Sobeys and many others have a customer appreciation day.  You can save usually 10% on your entire purchase that entire day.  This Tuesday July 2nd is the first Tuesday of the month so keep your eyes open for stores customer appreciation day deals!

Points Cards: This is a huge one for my family.  I have a lot of the free points cards such as club Sobeys, Co-op, Safeway, Shoppers Drug Mart and so on.  I would say my two favourites are Sobeys and Shoppers Drug Mart.  Sobeys offers money back towards your groceries that will accumulate over short or long periods of time.  You are also now able to load coupons directly to your card which is a first in Canada. I have saved so much money on groceries just by shopping there with this points program.  Every time you hit the next reward level, they alert you at the register and you can choose to use the money back towards your groceries or keeping building the balance.  The best program for points though is the Shoppers Drug Mart optimum program. It is free and so easy get up to $250 worth of free groceries by following a few easy steps.  I use my coupons with their deals all the time for groceries because they carry frozen food, dairy and many other food items that most people don’t know about.

Flyers and Sales: Before I shop, I always make sure to check out my flyers (either the ones delivered at my door or you can find them online) and the sale first.  I go through my coupons and see if I have any coupons that match items that are on sale and try to use my coupons for those items.  That way I get them at the lowest prices or sometimes even free.

Price Matching: There are certain stores like Walmart (which has full groceries now) RCSS and Zellers that will price match items.  (those are just a few) I always  hold onto my flyers because if I am shopping at a store that will price match items and I find the item more expensive than one in a flyer, I price match it.  All you have to do is bring the flyer to the register and show them the exact product from a flyer at another store for a lower price and they will adjust the price for you at their store.  This saves you from running around to different places to get the lowest price.  When you run around to save a few dollars, you end up spending more on gas and time and energy!

Stockpiling your groceries: Try buying in bulk at the lowest price available (and using coupons) because it will save you a lot!  I have a stockpile area of my house for non perishables and toiletries that have long expiry dates.  I save money because I buy things that I will for sure need when they are the lowest price.  There have been times that instead of running to the store or ordering in, I head downstairs to the stockpile and whip up dinner because we always have something. We don’t need to order in for this reason or waste money on fast food that is not healthy and expensive. Another great idea is to stockpile freezer items. It is so easy to stockpile fruit, veggies and meat for nights when you just don’t know what to have.

I started tracking how much we spend each month on groceries and how much we save each month by following these few easy steps.  I found that we were saving a minimum of 50% each month on our budget,  just by shopping smart.  All it takes is a little extra planning and anyone can do it!

In conclusion, food is obviously something that is a necessity but you don’t need to break the bank keeping your family fed.  You can save a lot of money each year just by following these few simple steps to get the most from your money.

Thanks to Indiana Stan for the picture.

Shoppers Drug Mart: Bonus Redemption Weekend & How to get the Most for your Points

Posted by on June 8, 2012 at 12:00 PM

Shoppers Drug Mart: Bonus Redemption Weekend & How to get the Most for your Points

It is that wonderful time again when Shoppers Drug Mart adds bonuses to their redemption levels and has a Bonus Redemption Weekend!  Can you tell I am excited?!  This weekend only, on June 9th and 10th, get $90 of items when you redeem 40,000 points ( a bonus of $27) and $200 of items when you redeem 80,000 points (a bonus of $64). All other redemption levels will remain the same.

Here is the fine print for this event:

Taxes are payable on the full purchase price prior to the application of the discount reward. Offer is a reduction off your total pre-tax purchase price of products eligible for point redemption. Points are not redeemable for cash or credit. All other reward levels remain in effect during this promotion. Offer excludes prescription purchases, products with codeine, non-pointable items, tobacco products (where applicable), stamps, passport photos, lottery tickets, event tickets, transit tickets and passes, gift cards, prepaid phone cards, prepaid card products and Shoppers Home Health Care locations.

Anna shared a guest Shoppers Drug Mart post earlier as to how to optimize your points with your Optimum card.  I am going to let you know a couple of tricks you can use to optimize your redemptions as well.

I try to shop either as early as possible (so I know that the item I am looking for will be there) or late at night( because at the 24 hour locations the items will be restocked late).

Be Patient: This is an important thing to remember.  Since Shoppers Drug Mart puts out a redemption day every couple of months, you don’t have to redeem every time even if you have the points just to do it.  If you don’t really need items, don’t get something just to get it.  Next redemption you can get more.  You can do up to 2 redemptions each day (equaling $200 each).  Or for the past couple of years in December, Shoppers Drug Mart has held a mega bonus redemption where the up the values to $100 or $250!  You can also get the 2 redemptions with this as well totaling $500 each day.  I like to save up points so I know I will have them then because it falls before Christmas and I get Christmas gifts there.  They have everything from perfume and baby toys to electronics and items for parties.  If you are patient you will reap even more rewards.

Any way you look at it, getting free groceries/items is great.  I will be first in line Saturday morning to stock up on my favorites for summer (I noticed some fun summer items last time I was there) and getting a few treats for myself!

How to Optimise your Redemption of Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Points (Guest post)

Posted by on May 23, 2012 at 7:00 PM

How to Optimise your Redemption of Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Points (Guest post)

Today, we’ve got a new guest post from Steven Zussino, co-founder of GroceryAlerts.ca, the Canadian website specializing in grocery coupons and Canadian flyer deals. Steven is going to share some shopping tips on how you can optimize your points in the Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Program. [Anna]

I really enjoy shopping at Shoppers Drug Mart. It is Canada’s largest pharmacy chain with more than 1,200 stores operating under the names Shoppers Drug Mart in nine provinces and two territories and Pharmaprix in Quebec.

The Shoppers Optimum Card is a loyalty card program that is exclusive to Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix stores. Anyone can apply to be a member and collect Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Points that may be redeemed on purchases within the store.

Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum members receive 10 points for every dollar spent at the store. This excludes the purchase of lottery, tobacco products, transit tickets and passes, prescription items, any products containing codeine, Canada Post products and gift cards (except Shoppers gift cards).

They also have several bonus offers available that award bonus Optimum points (for example 1,500 bonus Optimum points with the purchase of a certain brand of Tylenol).

How to Optimise your Redemption of Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Points (Guest post)Throughout the year, Shoppers Drug Mart has special weekend sales where customers receive 20 times the regular points when they spend a certain amount.

The points that you earn at Shoppers Drug Mart can be redeemed for reward merchandise at Shoppers Drug Mart. Now, earning 10 points for every dollar spent will not go very far in earning any rewards at Shoppers Drug Mart. But here are some ways to optimise your Shoppers Drug Mart points:

    1. Purchase a Shoppers Drug Mart gift card before your spending.

Not many people know this, but you can buy a Shoppers Drug Mart gift card and show your Optimum card, and receive points for that purchase. So, before you shop, buy a $50 gift card and receive 500 points. As you checkout, pay for $50 with that gift card and show your Optimum card once again for an additional 500 points. It is like double-dipping!

    2. Shop on Bonus Redemption days

When Shoppers Drug Mart announces a bonus redemption day, it’s time to start shopping. Their bonus redemption day allows anyone with many Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Points to get extra savings.

Here are some examples at some redemption levels:

    • Redeem 30,000 points and get up to $60 off (instead of the usual $40)
    • Redeem 50,000 points and get up to $120 off (instead of the usual $85)
    • Redeem 95,000 points and get up to $250 off (instead of the usual $170)

It is best practice to wait for these redemption days to optimize your return on your points.

    3. Bonus Points on Individual Products

Shoppers Drug Mart offers extra bonus points on individual products across the store every single day. These products vary from their own brands, to brand name products.

One example is that I earned 1,500 Optimum points with the purchase of Advil Nighttimes (size 10s) when purchased for $3.99. I used a $4 off coupon and bought 15 packages (to be given away to friends and family).

    4. Multiple Point Event Days or Special Points Events on Product Categories

Get thousands of extra Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Points on “20x the Points” event days. An example would be to spend $50 and get 10,000 points instead of 500.

They also have these events on categories of products in the store, i.e. (10x the points on health products, or 20x the points on cosmetics).
