Book Depository (UK): Free Shipping No Minimum & Foreign Release Books

Posted by on October 30, 2014 at 2:30 PM

Book Depository (UK): Free Shipping No Minimum & Foreign Release Books

Book Depository (UK) offers free shipping on any order with no minimum to Canada. For book lovers, this is a favourite website for finding older titles and new releases.

You can select Canadian currency at the top right so there is no confusion with currency conversion. Now, free shipping on any book order alone is fantastic. Books are heavy and Canada post most certainly does not deliver them to your door for free so Book Depository foots the bill.

Now, the second part of this ‘deal’ that should tickle any book-lovers fancy is access to foreign books not yet released in the USA or Canada. What we have access to on Chapters Indigo or Amazon.ca are books that have been released in North America. However, our release dates can be several years after the books have been released in other countries – like the UK.

The #1 best-selling book on Book Depository right now is The Sleeper and the Spindle (Hardback) by Neil Gaiman. It just was released by Bloomsbury in the UK but will not be released in the USA or Canada until late summer or early fall 2015. Rather than wait almost an entire year for a new book by one of our favourite authors, many Canadians (including me) have bought the book from Book Depository. The Sleeper and the Spindle is currently 27% off. If you are a Gaiman fan or a Chris Riddell fan (fantastic illustrations), then pick up the book for $16.95 (was $23.49). Sure, it is considered a children’s book, but Gaiman’s creations rarely disappoint adult readers.

Even if you could buy the book at Amazon or Chapters (which you cannot) you would never receive free shipping on a book for that price as both our companies have a $25 minimum.

This comes down to two important points:

  1. Free shipping on any book order – no matter how many/few or how expensive/cheap
  2. Access to books that our ‘usual’ book stores do not have access to

You may not even know that some of these books exist unless you follow your favourite authors. When I first found out about The Sleeper book, it was through Neil Gaiman’s twitter. The book is was not even showing up on Amazon or Chapters Indigo a week ago when I ordered as the North American release date was so far away.

As per usual, price compare any books if they are currently available in your normal book stores.

Book Outlet Canada: Get 15% Off Unique Coupon Codes

Book Outlet Canada: Get 15% Off Unique Coupon Codes

Claim your very own unique coupon code for 15% off at Book Outlet Canada. Just fill out your name and email address through the link below to receive your unique promo code.

I requested my coupon and it arrived immediately. Each code is unique so I cannot just do it one time and then supply the coupon to all of you. I was pleased that the code arrived so fast. I forwarded it on to my husband as I really shouldn’t be purchasing anymore books. The picture above is of the books I just purchased this weekend from a local used book sale.

My husband is currently reading through a legendary series – Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. He is on book four and has up to book six in the series. These are mammoth books to read and I am surprised how quickly he is going through them. I might use the coupon code on a couple more books in the series for him. I found The Path of Daggers (Wheel of Time, Bk. 8) in scratch and dent for $3.99. After coupon, it comes down to $3.32. I could also buy him A Crown of Swords (Wheel of Time, Bk. 7) for $5.09 after coupon (was $5.99). Then he would have the next two books in the series.

As you can see from above, my Terry Pratchett obsession continues. If you want to jump on the Pratchett bandwagon, I suggest picking up a copy of Reaper Man for just $3.32 after coupon (was $3.99) and Snuff. Snuff is a new one for me but it sounds fantastic! Sort of like a murder mystery set on Discworld, which is right up my alley. The hardcover of Snuff is $6.99 and comes down to $5.94 after coupon.

I was actually pretty shocked to see Gaiman’s The Ocean at the End of the Lane and Chu’s Day on Book Outlet. Both of these books are still incredibly popular. Chu’s Day is really great fir kids going to school for the first time whereas The Ocean is best for adults. I want both. Ocean in hardcover will cost me $6.79 (was $7.99) and Chu in hardcover will cost $5.94 (was $6.99).

Shipping is just $3.99 and $0.75 cents per item. That is reasonable when you consider how heavy books are and how much shipping has gone up. I shipped just a shirt to Saskatchewan yesterday and it cost me $12!

Lonely Planet Canada Promo Code: B1G1 On All City Guides

Posted by on September 3, 2014 at 2:30 PM

Lonely Planet Canada Promo Code: B1G1 On All City Guides

Ring, ring, London’s calling (or plenty of other top cities Lonely Planet Canada Promo Code: B1G1 On All City Guides )! If you’re planning on travelling and need a city guide, then check out Lonely Planet because until the end of the week, you can take advantage of a “buy one, get one free” deal on all city guide. Just add two books to your cart, apply the promo code below and voila, the price on the second book will be strike-through and the word “free” will appear instead.

Buy one city guide, get one free @ LonelyPlanet.com now

  • Coupon Code: FREECITY
  • Discount: BOGO offer on all city guides
  • Expiry: 5th September 2014

I tried the Lonely Planet promo code above on country guide but alas, it truly is only on city guides. Lonely Planet’s site can be a little confusing to navigate, but if you click the link above, then you will see a list of all of the city guides eligible for this promotion. Although all prices on Lonely Planet’s site are in USD, shipping is nevertheless free on orders over $40 to Canada. There are over 80 city guides to choose from and they are all for top cities like Moscow, Vienna, Paris, Seoul, etc. Even a couple of American cities have made it on the list like: Boston, Seattle and Chicago.

London has been one of the cities that I have always wanted to visit but I wouldn’t even know where to start. Searching the net for places to visit and things to go is great and all but the overflow of information can oftentimes be confusing and sometimes, it’s nicer to just read a book or a city guide in this case.

If you’re looking to learn about plenty of cities or if you plan on travelling to several ones in one trip but don’t want to carry that many city guides with you, then you can also take advantage of the BOGO offer on digital versions of these city guides. In fact, the promotion will still work even if you add an actual book alongside an eBook to your cart or even if you choose the bundle option, which is a guide for any given city in both a print and digital format. The bundled price is cheaper than if you were to get these separately. For instance, the Bangkok city guide in print form is $21.99, in digital form is $15.39 and as a bundle is $28.59. These are also the average prices that you can expect to see on almost all of the city guides.

Book Outlet Canada Coupon Code: $20 Off $60

Stock up on books at Book Outlet Canada with this $20 off $60 coupon code this weekend.

Click here to shop @ Book Outlet Canada now

  • Coupon Code: BOOKOUTLET20
  • Discount: $20 off $60
  • Expiry: 18th August 2014 @ 12PM EST

A lot of reading goes on in our house, and some of it you can find on the shelves at Book Outlet. Currently, my bookshelf holds Witches Abroad by Terry Pratchett. I have only read a handful of Pratchett’s work and those mainly featured Death or Rincewind. This book will be my first involving the witches, and I hope it is as good as the others are (and better than Eric). Originally $7.99, the book is now $3.99. The Hogfather by Pratchett is also on my bookshelf currently waiting to be read. I have it on authority that it is one of the best of the Discworld novels and involves Death, who is a favourite character of mine. This book also was $7.99, and is now $3.99.

If you like Fantasy, my husband would suggest almost anything by Jennifer Fallon. Glancing at his bookshelf right now, I can tell you he owns all of the Fallon books that Book Outlet has for sale right now. The last one to come out, The Undivided (Rift Runners Book One), I actually bought him as a birthday gift. Originally $26.99, the book is discounted to $5.99. He is impatiently waiting for the next two books in the series to reach Canada now.

My own personal tastes have been towards Neil Gaiman lately, but they do not have many of his books on Book Outlet right now. However, while browsing books I ran across Mugen Spiral (Volume 1) on sale for $3.99, from $9.99. This manga (and volume 2) are on the top of my bookshelf. They are beloved reads and rereads about a girl who can summon ethereal helpers and the demons who are trying to kill her to absorb her power in order to determine the new demon overlord. I highly recommend it!

If you want a sweet series that never has an ending, try Shutterbox. A human girl becomes the anchor for the muse world, but there is an interesting sense of history repeating itself about it all. The series was abandoned, but I still keep my four volumes. Volumes 3 and 4 are on sale for $3.99 each, originally $9.99.

Shipping is $3.99 for the first item, and then an additional $0.75 per item. Be sure to check out the coupon forum for future coupon codes like this one.

Having finished all the coursework for my degree, this is now my summer of reading and cleaning out my book collection. Inevitably, I seem to be buying as many books as I am getting rid of so my bookshelves never get any emptier. I recently bought, and read, The Graveyard book by Neil Gaiman. I was suitably impressed with the quality of writing and I will be purchasing more books by this author. I am eyeing up The Silver Dream by both Neil Gaiman and Michael Reeves. I have never heard of this book before, but it is a sequal to the well-known Interworld. Originally $18.99, the book is on sale for $5.99.

I recently bought Lizzie Newton Book 1 in a used bookstore. It was sort of a hail-mary call as I based it on a few short glances through the book. The art is fantastic and the story is very much Murder She Wrote with a dash of Sherlock Holmes and Miss Marple mixed in for good measure.  The art is very nice and I shall be continuing with the series. You can pick up the first volume for $4.49 at Book Outlet. They also have Lizzie Newton Book 2, which I do not have yet, priced at $4.49 as well.

On my reading list this summer are many Terry Pratchett novels from his Diskworld series. I have already read Reaper Man, which stars my favourite character: Death. You can pick up a copy on Book Closeouts for just $3.99. So far, it is my favourite of the Death novels, but I have just read that one and most of Mort. My husband says that Hogfather is the best of all. I do plan to read both the Hogfather and Soul Music, which is another Death novel by Pratchett. You can pick up a scratch and dent copy for cheap on Book Outlet: only $2.49.

With the extra $10 off $30, you can really stock up on books whether your shelves can handle the extra weight or not. Shipping is $3.99 for the first item, and then an additional $0.75 per item. Be sure to check out the coupon forum for future coupon codes like this one.

Chapters Indigo Canada: Bonus Plum Rewards on Kids’ Books (Up to $15 Value)

Posted by on July 2, 2014 at 1:00 PM

Chapters Indigo Canada: Bonus Plum Rewards on Kids Books (Up to $15 Value)

Chapters Indigo Canada is a big supporter of reading. This summer they are offering bonus plum rewards when you purchase select children’s books.

You will receive a bonus 2,500 Plum Rewards for every three kid’s books you purchase. 2,500 Plum rewards are equal to $5 worth. You can receive a maximum bonus for nine books, which is up to 7,500 bonus plum rewards which equals $15 worth of bonus rewards.

Often children’s books get as low as $5 so you are getting almost 33% value back if you buy the cheaper books. I was looking at the age range 0 – 5 because I have a few friends with young children. I picked out:

I adore Dr. Seuss and love the TV series they have done with Cat in The Hat voiced by Martin Short. The other two books have such lovely art and look so very different from each other. I am sure both would be a joy for a youngster to read.

If I purchased those three books for a total of $14.22, I would receive $5 worth in plum rewards to spend on my next purchase.

Of course, with Chapters Indigo offering free shipping at $25, I would probably buy six books and aim for a bonus 5,000 points just to get the free shipping. It is certainly worth it. If you were buying for several children, you could go up to nine books for the maximum bonus. However, be sure you are picking books through the link above (and use the “shop all” tabs) as not all children’s books on Chapters Indigo’s site qualify for this deal.

There are a few other interesting little kinks to this deal. One, it appears that the eligible books might change on a monthly basis, based on what I was reading in the fine print. However, in total, nine books will still only qualify for the bonus plum rewards. In addition, any earned bonus plum points from this offer must be redeemed by October 15, 2014.

Books included in this sale are geared towards age ranges:

  • 0 – 5
  • 6 – 8
  • 9 – 12

However, you know what reading level your child is at so while their age might fall into one of these ranges, their reading level might be in another. Check out multiple sections in case there is anything of interest that they have categorized as a different age group.

Chapters Indigo Canada Coupon Code: 10% Off Books

Chapters Indigo Canada Coupon Code: 10% Off Books

Chapters Indigo Canada has a two-day only promotion where you will receive 10% off the list price of books, which is an extra 5% off books for Plum Members.

Click here to shop books @ Chapters Canada now

  • Coupon Code: JUNEDD
  • Discount: 10% off books
  • Expiry: 25th June 2014

Use this coupon on any books you want: hardcover, softcover, sets, and more.

Books are so personal that I really can only share what I will be buying with this coupon.

I love Canadian artist Camilla D’Errico and her Tanpopo Volume 2 is now available for pre-order and scheduled to be released on the 8th of July, 2014. The story is about a girl who could not feel any emotions; she was like a machine, so she makes a deal with the devil – Kuro – to experience the world. It really mixes a lot of classic literature with stunning artwork and a beautiful story. Originally $29.50, it is on sale at Chapters for $18.50 for Plum members. After coupon code, it comes down to $17.58.

The 13 Clocks by James Thurber is a book I recently found out about through Neil Gaiman’s twitter. He is hosting the Wall Street Journal book of the month club and he has chosen this book as the one you just must read. Gaiman talks about how Thurber beautifully plays with language and I cannot wait to read it. The book is $12.24 for plum members, and comes down to $11.63 after coupon.

On the subject of Neil Gaiman, of whom I am a big fan, I will also be pre-ordering his book Hansel And Gretel (a Toon Graphic) very soon. The illustrations by Lorenzo Mattotti look stunning and fit Gaiman’s dark take on the world. While this is a retelling of a classic fairy tale, I cannot wait to hear Gaiman’s twist on the plot. The book will be released in the fall and you can pre-order it for just $13.03 after coupon.

I am also considering adding Asterix Omnibus 7 and Gunnerkrigg Court Volume 4: Materia to my collections as I already have the volumes leading up to those. Any of our readers fans?

This is certainly the time to buy books at Chapters Indigo as they do not often have the coupon code specifically for books. I know I am excited. Time to get caught up on a few collections and pick up a few more books for my summer reading list.

Receive free shipping on orders of $25 or more.

For this and other Chapters coupon codes, check out the forum.

Bookoutlet Canada: Summer Eats 50% Off

Bookoutlet Canada: Summer Eats 50% Off

One of my favourite pastimes in the summer is to lay out on my hammock while the kids are playing in the backyard and read. I am constantly looking for something new to read and I often look at Book Outlet because of their 50/50 section.  They have switched it up again to include 50 summer eats books at 50% off right now.

You may think that I wouldn’t want to read summer eats type books in my hammock but you would be wrong!  I love looking at cookbooks and reading great cooking tips.  It inspires me to make some delicious meals for my family and they have so many tricks and tips that I would have never thought about myself.

One that caught my eye right away was Grilling Yourself Skinny that was $14.95 and is now just $2.24. My husband loves grilling and I love to eat it so it it is a win win book for me!

Another perfect summer book I found was this Ice Cream book that was $15.95 and is now just $2.99. I have never made my own ice cream but it is always something I have wanted to try especially now since I have two kids.

To save you even more money, make sure to stop by the Book Outlet coupon section of our forum.  We have a few coupon codes for online shopping that could save you up to an additional $20 off your purchases!

As for the cost of shipping, it is quite reasonable. It is $3.99 for the first item, and then an additional $0.75 per item. not bad considering how low these books are priced in this section!

Book Outlet Canada: 50% Off Contemporary Fiction

Posted by on May 24, 2014 at 10:00 AM

Book Outlet Canada: 50% Off Contemporary Fiction

Book Outlet has switched up their 50/50 section again and this time there are some great books for Dad. Get 50% off 50 different Contemporary Fictions books for a limited time only.

I wasn’t exactly sure what Contemporary Fiction meant, but I figured it out quite quickly with just a glance over the books offered. They are all fiction but they are a bit alternative. They deal with spirituality, emotions, and the afterlife.  Some of the books could make a good Father’s Day gift.

My dad would like this Fallen Masters by: John Edwards that was $25.99 and is now reduced down to just $2.99.  I think he would also like to read this The Million Dollar Demise by: RM Johnson that was $15 and is now just $1.99.

They used to have these 50/50 sales on for a full two weeks at a time, but they have been switching it up lately.  Some of them have been a week, some two weeks and some just random amounts of time.  This one ends on Monday, so there is not a lot of time to take advantage of it.

As for the cost of shipping, it is $3.99 for the first items and then an additional $0.75 per item. Not bad actually, since the prices of the books are dirt cheap.

To save yourself even more money, you can use one of our exclusive Book Outlet coupons to save another $5 to $20 on your entire order. Between the 50% off and the additional exclusive coupon, you can stock up on a ton of books for your summer reading!

Bookoutlet Canada: 50% Off Favourite Friends Books

Bookoutlet Canada: 50% Off Favourite Friends Books

I am really excited about the new deals on at Book Outlet this week because they are very are all ones that I would buy for my kids.  Right now, you can get 50 favourite friends books on sale for 50% off the last price.

These books are all kids books that have favourite friends in them such as Disney characters, Marvel superheros and more. Being a former elementary school teacher and a mom, I know the importance of books.  Even books that don’t have a lot of words to them and magazines help children grow and develop their brain power.

My boys love anything Disney and especially Mickey Mouse so I know they would love this Mickey Mouse: A Magical Story that was $7.99 and is now just $1.99.  I know this Tinkerbell book would be a hit with my niece that was $7.80 and is now just $1.49.

I have always said that books make excellent gifts for kids of any age.  This selection of books I would say is for  newborn to age 12 years old at the oldest.  Think of any birthday parties coming up or even Christmas this year.  I may buy a few and save them for my boys for Christmas because they are priced so low right now.

The cost of shipping is $3.99 and an additional $0.75 per item.

Additionally, use one of our exclusive Book Outlet coupon codes to save another $5 to $20 on your entire order.

Book Outlet Canada: Extra 50% Off Thousands of Titles

Posted by on May 2, 2014 at 12:30 PM

Book Outlet Canada: Extra 50% Off Thousands of Titles

Book Outlet is having a large spring sale with an extra 50% off thousands of book titles… 20,000 to be approximately exact.

So, how is this sale different from all other sales, you may want to know? Well, that is a very good question. Each week Book Outlet offers a 50/50 section, which is an extra 50% off 50 books that they choose. However, instead of just 50 books this sale is giving you an extra 50% off 20,000 or so books. Sold yet? I am.

There are some hilarious titles in this sale with books discounted up to and over 90% off their original retail value. This 101 Uses for My Ex-Wife’s Wedding Dress looks like a fun and perhaps theraputic read for any guy going through a divorce or anyone with a good sense of humour. Originally $14, it is now just $0.99.

Many people really admire Elizabeth Taylor, and not just for her fine figure. She was a role model to many women and continues to be so. The book The Accidental Feminist celebrates Elizabeth Taylor. Originally $15, it is now on sale for $1.49.

I am going to be scrounging through the sale looking for books by my favourite authors to read this summer. How about you?

There is a limit of one copy per title per customer. No buying ten copies of The Hobbit.

The cost of shipping is $3.99 and an additional $0.75 per item. Additionally, use one of our exclusive Book Outlet coupon codes to save another $5 to $20 on your entire order.

Free Comic Book Day

Posted by on April 30, 2014 at 5:00 PM

Free Comic Book Day

Coming up in just three short days is a pretty great free event all across Canada.  It is called Free Comic Book Day. On May 3rd, you will be able to walk into your local comic book store and get a free comic book.

There is no purchase necessary to get your free comic book, and most comic book stores across North America will be participating, whether they are big or small.  The stores will be the ones choosing which free comics you will be able to get.

Last year, there was a list of 44 different comics you could choose from in your local stores for free. This year there are 57 different books to choose from. You will be able to get one to ten free comic books, depending on the store, and there is a good variety of comics for kids that are young to adults that are young at heart.

This is a great family event to head in for to get kids interested in reading.  I know a lot of little kids that really don’t like to read, but love comic books. Comics are a great starter type of reading for kids because they are fun and colourful.  Right now the new Spiderman movie is coming out, which has always been a very popular comic book series. You can get the Spiderman 2: Bleeding Cool as one of your choices which is sure to be a popular one.

The stores may differ for when their hours are, so make sure to phone ahead just to be sure.

Book Outlet Canada: 50% Off Gardening Books

Posted by on April 29, 2014 at 5:30 PM

Book Outlet Canada: 50% Off Gardening Books

Book Outlet has a new 50/50 section on again with fifty titles at an additional 50% off the regular prices.  Right now, all the books are geared towards gardening.

Usually, this 50/50 sale has a selection of books on for two weeks, and then switches it up.  Last week they were on for just one week only, and this time they don’t even mention when the sale will be over.  I suggest grabbing anything you see and like now, while you know you can save the additional 50% off.

We finally are starting to have the beautiful spring weather across Canada that we have all been waiting for.  Up until last week, we actually had snow here in Alberta!  I can’t wait to do my spring gardening but I have an issue; I don’t exactly have a green thumb!   I often refer to books to find out what and when you plant things and how to take care of them.

This book Container Gardening for Dummies Edition 2 caught my eye because of my lack of gardening skills.  It was originally listed at $19.99 and is now on sale for just $4.99.  It is because of gardeners like myself that they needed to make not just one of these, but a second edition as well!

If you do have a green thumb however, there is still a lot of variety in the books.  There are books on ponds, houseplants, garden structures, lawn watering systems and more.  Basically, this sale covers just about anything you would need to look up for something outside your home.

The cost of shipping is $3.99 and an additional $0.75 per item.

Additionally, use one of our exclusive Book Outlet coupon codes to save another $5 to $20 on your entire order.
