(PS4 & Xbox One) Best Buy Canada: WWE 2k15 Hulkamania Edition Pre-Order – Just $70 + Free Shipping!

Posted by on August 10, 2014 at 11:30 PM

(PS4 & Xbox One) Best Buy Canada: WWE 2k15 Hulkamania Edition Pre Order Just $70 + Free Shipping!

Negativity and Hulkamania: two things that don’t go together! Luckily, you can pre-order WWE 2k15 Hulkamnia edition on PS4 or Xbox One for just $69.99 at Best Buy. It’s set to release on October 28th 2014.

First of all, let me start off by saying that you should not wait to pre-order. Best Buy lists this game at a regular price of $69.99 but everywhere else (i.e. Amazon and EB Games), it’s $109.99, which puts this deal at close to a 40% discount in comparison. It’s even already sold out at Future Shop, where it was available for $69.99 as well!

Plus, the vast majority of PlayStation and Xbox One games tend to retail for $69.99, so the fact that this limited edition is at the same price is definitely pretty awesome, especially since the regular edition of this game is retailing for that same exact price right now, but without all of the following bonus features that the Hulkamania edition has:

  • Collective art card personally autographed by Hulk Hogan
  • Funko “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan vinyl figure
  • Authentic piece of ring canvas from Hulk Hogan’s Monday Night Raw appearance on March 10, 2014 in Memphis, TN
  • Premium packaging

In this edition of the game, players are also granted access to two exclusive characters: Hulk Hogan and “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan. It’s also a game that can either be played alone as singleplayer or in a multiplayer mode as it’s in a professional wresting fighting genre. Even cooler is that this latest instalment will focus on a historical timeline of past WWE rivalries, which die hard WWE fans are sure to enjoy. On the same vein, I’m sure just about anyone could enjoy the storyline as well in order to learn more about the history of the WWE, even though it’s fake! (PS4 & Xbox One) Best Buy Canada: WWE 2k15 Hulkamania Edition Pre Order Just $70 + Free Shipping!

I have to admit that I’m not the biggest Hulk Hogan fan but this is definitely a deal I’ll be taking advantage of as soon as possible before it sells out. I’m certain that my hubby will enjoy playing, especially with the Hulk Hogan character.

Fun fact: did you know that Hulkamnia was started after Hulk Hogan won the 1984 edition of Championship Wrestling? That was 30 years ago! Even crazier is that from 2005 to 2007, Hulk Hogan made a comeback, during which he was in his 50′s!

Amazon.ca: Knack for the PlayStation 4 Now $28.23 (Orig. $60)

Posted by on June 29, 2014 at 2:00 PM

Amazon.ca: Knack for the PlayStation 4 Now $28.23 (Orig. $60)

Amazon Canada has a great deal on the game Knack for the Playstation 4. Originally $59.99, the game is now on sale for $28.23 and will receive free shipping as it costs over $25.

Now for a little price comparing. Knack for the PS4 costs $39.99 @ Future Shop, Best Buy and at EB Games and $59.98 @ Walmart.ca. You can buy the pre-owned versions at EB Games and Future Shop, but you are only saving another $5: the pre-owned versions cost $34.99. Amazon trumps all these companies with their new copies only $28.23 with free shipping.

So the reviews on this game are pretty mixed. If you are a hard-core gamer, then you might want to pass on this offering as the game controls are simple and it is not exactly the most challenging game out there. However, if you like a mix of old school gaming with modern graphics, if you like beating goblins to smithereens, and if you enjoy more simplistic controls, you might want to try this game. This game is mostly combat: Knack may be a pint-sized little thing but he can use his “powers to transform into a powerful brute or gigantic wrecking machine to defeat the onslaught of a goblin invasion.”

One reviewer said:

This game is fun, whimsical and pleasant. I find this relaxing and quite enjoyable. Most of all, I can play it! This is not the tough game that it is made out to be. As a series of challenges sometimes I succeed and other times I fail; When I fail I just try and try again until I get it right. After 3 hours and one major boss fight I haven’t yet hit a wall. It’s classic gaming but with modern visuals, audio and controls. Accept the game on its own terms. I think that it’s a proper game that is disarmingly innocent. And if kids can play a Mario game then Knack should be easy.

I think this would be a great game for kids or amateur gamers (like me) who do not need excess complexity to have fun. In fact, I vastly prefer a game with a smaller learning curve so I can just get in and have fun without getting my butt kicked too many times first.

For $11 cheaper than anyone else is selling the game for, I think Knack is a good buy from Amazon Canada right now.

Shop.ca: Today only Save 15% on PlayStation SONY PS4 500GB Watchdogs with Controller Bundle

Shop.ca: Today only Save 15% on PlayStation SONY PS4 500GB Watchdogs with Controller Bundle

If you are looking to upgrade your gaming system or add a different platform to your repertoire, this is a pretty decent deal. The original price is $584.97, on sale for $499, a savings of $85.97.

For those of you who aren’t immersed in the gaming world (don’t worry, I’m not either), there are a few things you should know before you decide to surprise your man and upgrade his system for Father’s Day. The PS4 is not backwards compatible, meaning if he has an older Sony Playstation system his games won’t work on the PS4.

Despite the fact that I am not a gamer there are two features I personally appreciate. One is the PS4 also meets our DVD/Blu-Ray requirements thus eliminating the need to have a second device in our electronics tower. Secondly, if you are a Netflix subscriber, you can sign-in to your account through your PS4 and stream movies, etc., directly to your tv.

For the sake of price comparison, if you were to buy the the system, controller and the game separately, you are looking at approximately $565 so you are still saving money with this deal. For example at Amazon.ca:

Gaming system and price aside, I certainly don’t have any experience with the Watch Dogs game itself. If the gamer in your life  enjoys first person shooters, I think this game will be a hit.  This reviewer summed it up pretty nicely:

This game is absolutely incredible. Even after having finished the campaign I keep going back to it, whether it is to complete extra missions, play in the fun online modes, experience the mini games, or just casually explore the open world. The game’s mechanics and systems make for some very dynamic and rewarding encounters. Gameplay is king here, where you have a freedom in how to tackle situations that alot of other games just don’t have. The graphics are gorgeous, and the atmosphere conveyed as a result of the graphics is truly stunning. The open world city feels alive, with each pedestrian having a story, and going about their daily lives.

As always Shop.ca offers free shipping on all purchases, no minimum required. Please note: No promo codes or bonuses are available with this offer.

Dell Canada: Watch Dogs – Now $58 (PS4/ Xbox)

Posted by on June 2, 2014 at 5:30 PM

Dell Canada: Watch Dogs Now $58 (PS4/ Xbox)

*Gasp*! Watch Dogs just came out and yet it’s already on sale at Dell Canada! This is particularly shocking because newly released games can usually only be had at their full regular price of $69.99 and yet you can get this action-adventure Ubisoft game for just $57.99.

Despite the fact that Dell is showing this game as being from $59.99 with a current discount of $2, this is actually the lowest price available right now as all of the other major competitors like Best Buy, Amazon and Future Shop all have it for close to $69.99.

Very similar to Grand Theft Auto, it’s a single-player game play that focuses on the story of a hacker who can manipulate the city by gaining access to surveillance cameras, controlling trains, stealing banking information etc. The player has to walk or drive around the city, performing a variety of missions with the goal of avenging the main character’s niece, which can either be played in antagonism of the law or by following the rules.

Overall, Watch Dogs has already generated a tremendous amount of positive reviews, which have praised the cleverly-designed missions and action graphics. In fact, even GameSpot has given it a rating of 8 out of 10, while IGN rated it 7.5 out of 10. These may not be full ratings of 10 out of 10 but they are still good enough to make me want to try this game. I’m particularly excited about the possibility of hacking the city and going against the law. Plus, Ubisoft also has a really good track record for created enthralling games with notable titles such as Assassin’s Creed, Batman, Far Cry, Just Dance, Prince of Persia, Rayman, Resident Evil 4, and many others. In fact, they have also produced more than 30 Tom Clancy games like Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell, with numerous instalments of each.

Father’s Day is coming up quick but it isn’t just a special occasion for your own father as Watch Dogs could make a great gift for a spouse who has just become a new daddy. Dell Canada: Watch Dogs Now $58 (PS4/ Xbox)  But hurry because this awesome deal expires soon and you won’t even have to pay shipping fees as Dell always offers free shipping.

What about you Moosers? Would you pick to play for or against the law?

PlayStation Network: Final Fantasy Games on Sale!

Posted by on January 28, 2014 at 9:30 PM

PlayStation Network: Final Fantasy Games on Sale!

Get some great games from one of the best RPG series’ ever released for super cheap from the PlayStation Network!

First off, anyone who bought the PS4 and doesn’t have a PS3, cannot take part in this deal. I know Sony is launching their “PlayStation Now” service in the summer which will let you stream PSOne, PS2 and PS3 games to your PS4 (among other devices) but for now it’s just a PS3 thing. PSP as well for some of the games here.

The games range from Classic like Final Fantasy III to newer titles like Dissidia Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy XIII-2 and a whole bunch of stuff in between. Prices for these titles are between $4.99 and $9.99. If you are a PS+ member the prices are $4.49 to $8.99. Before the sale the prices were $9.99 to $19.99 so you’re saving up to 50%. They also have Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn in collector’s and regular editions for $35.39 and $23.99 respectively. There are discounts for PS+ members and the regular prices are $59.99 and $39.99.

If I was going to pick out one game to buy from this list it would be Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of The Lions. It is hands down the best game ever created. Not even just in my opinion. It’s fact and you can take that to the bank just like Obama closing Gitmo! Seriously, for the few bucks this game costs, you owe it to yourself as a gamer to pick it up. The story is amazing and deep, the gameplay is beautiful and you can get lost in the jobs system. *sigh* I love it.

These are the prices for the digital downloads so there is no shipping. Prices are in USD.

Playstation Entertainment Network: 14 PSVita and 14 PS3 Games for up to 50% off, up to 75% off for PSN Members

Posted by on January 14, 2014 at 8:45 AM

Playstation Entertainment Network: 14 PSVita and 14 PS3 Games for up to 50% off, up to 75% off for PSN Members

Get awesome games for your PS4 and PS Vita for 50%+ less on the PlayStation Entertainment Network!

First up the deal starts on today for their 14 for ’14 sale which starts, of course, on the 14th.

There are 28 games so I’m not going to list them all here but the selection is good and pretty broad. For the PS3 you can get games like like:

  • Crysis 3 - Was $19.99 – Now $9.99/$5
  • Rayman Legends – Was $59.99 – Now $47.99/$35.99
  • F1 2013 – Was $59.99 Now $29.99/$20.99
  • Far Cry Blood Dragon – Was $14.99 – Now $7.49/$3.75

The prices are broken up in to two because PSN members can get up to 75% off while non-PSN members only get up to 50% off.

For PS VIta you can pick from another 14 games which include games like:

  • Worms Revolution Extreme – Was $14.99 – Now $7.49/$3.75
  • Sly Coopers: Thieves in Time – Was $26.99 – Now $13.49/$6.75
  • The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season - Was $19.99 – Now $9.99/$5
  • Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two – Was $29.99 – Now $14.99/$7.50

If you own a PS Vita and have not yet played The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season you really owe it to yourself to pick it up, especially at $9.99. It’s an absolutely amazing game and worth every penny at $9.99, $19.99 or $59.99.

I feel all snobbish about this deal because I have a PS4 and the deals just don’t appeal to me enough to hook up my PS3 again. I would, however, like to pick up a PS Vita at some point so it’s always nice to know that the games are going on sale. Hopefully by the time they have a 15 for ’15 sale next year. Regardless, PS3 or PS Vita, there are a bunch of great games on sale starting tomorrow so get to gaming!

All these games are digital downloads so there is no shipping.

EB Games Canada: PS Vita WiFi For Only $170 (Save $30)

EB Games Canada: PS Vita WiFi For Only $170 (Save $30)

Get the newest handheld to go with your brand new PS4, or your PS3, or anything else for only $170 at EB Games!

In another life I covered the PS Vita launch. It was awesome. The touch screen and the back-touchpad make for some great ancillary game mechanics (like the SixAxis controller) without being too intrusive like some others (I’m looking at you, Kinect and Wiimote). The connectivity, for those who are interested in that sort of stuff, is awesome. To top it all off, it has an absolutely gorgeous OLED screen.

If you have a PS3 or, better yet, a PS4, this is a great companion device. Remote play is awesome and I love the idea of taking some classic games, for instance, like FFVIII with you on your handheld. It’s kind of crappy playing a two or three year old game on your 70″ LED TV, but on a handheld, it doesn’t feel so bad.

This is a great price, too. You don’t often see consoles come on sale because they are super low margin items or, in some cases, are loss leaders. Getting the PS Vita for $169.99 is great considering it was $199.99. You’re saving $30! This could be a stock purge sale to get the original version gone before the PS Vita Slim comes here, which I’m assuming will happen some time soon. Normally I’m all up on a slim version of a console, but I guess the PS Vita Slim doesn’t have the amazing OLED screen, so I might pass.

Shipping is around $6 for most people.

Best Buy Canada Boxing Week Special: 40% Off PlayStation Plus 1-Year Membership

Best Buy Canada Boxing Week Special: 40% Off PlayStation Plus 1 Year Membership

Here’s a hot deal on a super popular item right now: $20 off a PlayStation Plus one year membership during Best Buy’s Boxing Day sale. Get it now for just $29.99 instead of $49.99.

As I was completing my Christmas shopping the other day, it dawned on me that the PlayStation Plus one-year membership would make for an incredible gift for a gamer friend of mine. This thought immediately preceded my hurrying on over to Best Buy at the other end of the mall but actually, I wish I hadn’t, because of this pretty awesome Best Buy Boxing Day special.

In case you’re on the fence about getting the membership, don’t be. It truly is a fantastic offer. Just think about it, at $29.99, that’s the equivalent of 8 cents per day!

My excitement at seeing this incredible deal actually pushed me to take advantage of this offer online, not once, but twice: once for myself and the other for another friend — ah the joys of giving. In case you’re still not convinced, then consider all the perks:

  • Free access to popular games monthly
  • Online multiplayer universe for all PS4 players
  • Up to 75% off at the PlayStation Store
  • Available to PS3, PS4 and even PS Vita
  • One-hour trials of full games
  • Exclusive and early access to select games (including beta and demos)

For the last point, past access to upcoming games has included epic titles such as: God of War: Ascension, DC Universe Online and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.

Although I thought at first that a code would be provided at the end of checkout for immediate redeeming, it looks like an actual physical copy of the card gets shipped absolutely free instead.

  • XCOM: Enemy Within (PS3) – Now $39.93 – Save $15 – Now $24.99

This sale almost makes me want to not have a PS4. Almost. Of course, there are only a few PS4 titles and they aren’t discounted a huge amount, since it’s their new console and they want to pull in as much software money as they can in order to offset likely console losses.

The PS3 and PS Vita people, well, they have some great deals. XCOM, Ratchet and Clank, CoD: Ghosts, Batman Arkham Origins. All awesome games. I might have even picked up WWE 2K14. I haven’t been into wrestling in any significant way for over a decade, but I’d pick up a game just to give it a shot. Digital downloads are digital and… downloaded… so no shipping!

What games are you going to put under your digital Christmas tree?

Amazon Canada: Knack for PS4 only $40 (Save $20)

Posted by on December 17, 2013 at 6:00 PM

Amazon Canada: Knack for PS4 only $40 (Save $20)

Bring platformer beat ‘em ups back in to your life for $40 from Amazon Canada!

First I want to talk about the deal then I want to talk about the game. The deal is great. The PS4 is brand new and games are still $60. There is no reason to put PS4 games on sale right now since the console is so new and the holidays are here. Regardless, here it is, Knack for PS4 for only $39.99! That’s $20 off the original $59.99 price. One thing to note is that some company seems to have bombed Amazon and is showing up as the first search result when you search for Knack on Amazon.ca. They are still selling the game for $59.99 so make sure you use the link above to get the better deal!

I’m a huge gamer but I’m weird in that I don’t have a lot of time to game. The main reason for this, of course, is life. I work full time overnight, do BargainMoose, write fiction and have a wife and kid. That doesn’t leave me a lot of time to game. Because of that I don’t watch a lot of game trailers or read much news. If I do I just get frustrated because I’m watching videos or reading news about great games that I will never have time to play. While I had heard of Knack, I hadn’t looked in to it because the game I got with my PS4 is Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Looking in to Knack would just be torture.

But for you, dear reader, I have tortured myself. And what torture it was! I really, really want this game. It’s a platformer beat ‘em up that is very similar to Spyro and Crash Bandicoot. I even googled “Knack Spyro” just to make sure I wasn’t missing something. I wasn’t, there are a bunch of articles on how Knack harkens back to Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. If you loved those games and much as I did, Knack is a game you need to get. If you don’t know who Crash and Spyro are, well, shame on you. Don’t miss out on knowing who Knack is!

Since it’s over $25, shipping is free!

One of the most popularly requested items by kids and teens (and some adults for that matter) at Christmas time is video games.  Toys R Us caters to the young and young at heart with their video game selection and they have a great deal on right now.  When you buy select video games, you will get a second one for 40% off the regular price.

Playstation Network Canada: Spend $50, Get $10 Back Just In Time For The PS4

There is nothing like getting money for doing something you’d do anyway. That’s exactly what you’re getting with this awesome deal from Sony!

Every time you spend $50 on PSN, you get $10 in PSN credit. This is even valid on PS4 day one digital pre-orders!

This is a great deal if you already buy all your games on PSN. Just keep on doing what you’re doing and you’ll start building up some credit. In fact, if you’ve been buying for a while, you might already have credit as this deal has been going on for a bit previously.

I don’t buy much on PSN and I don’t really know why. I abhor physical media, but I buy all my console games on disc. I don’t even buy computer games on disk, just console games. It’s very odd. If you’re like me and very rarely buy on PSN, this sale might be a great opportunity to start.

Price Showdown: PS4 vs. xBox One vs. WiiU – FIGHT!

Price Showdown: PS4 vs. xBox One vs. WiiU FIGHT!

The next generation of the console wars is here, and all the nerds like me have our preferences based on prejudice, technology and a bunch of other factors. A lot of the normal people out there are more concerned about cost. You can’t really have a cost analysis without having a bit of discussion of features, so I’ll provide the prices and a winner based solely on those prices, but I’m going to editorialize it somewhat. For full disclosure, I’m a total Sony fan boy, but I’ll keep this strictly professional. These things aren’t cheap and while you may initially see a clear winner based just on the price tag, there are other considerations that you’ll want to think about before making your decision. All the prices here are MSRP for official products. PS4, WiiU, xBox OneFIGHT!

Price Showdown: PS4 vs. xBox One vs. WiiU FIGHT!

Initial cost

If you are only concerned about the sticker hanging under the console at your local Walmart, then the WiiU is the console for you. There is no denying that Nintendo has the lowest price around.

The winner on price is indeed the WiiU, but keep in mind that the WiiU is, any way you cut it, a lesser piece of technology. Among the biggest issues aside from straight power considerations are its storage and lack of Blu-ray capabilities. The WiiU storage goes up to 32GB, PS4 has a 500GB user-upgrade-able HDD and the xBox One 360 has a fixed 500GB HDD. The xBox One and the PS4 have BluRay while the WiiU does not. If you bought a PS3 last generation and use that as your only BluRay player, a WiiU won’t replace that functionality.

Winner: WiiU

Peripherals

There is no real winner here, but technically you could get by with spending less on stuff for the WiiU. The reason there is no real clear winner is that the Wii U has three controllers. One of them is in two parts like the Wii. You don’t need both parts so if you only get the one, it’s cheaper. If you end up getting both parts it will cost more, and it’s even more if you pick up their other xBox-like game pad. Like I said, this one is a bit muddy, but just for the fact that you can theoretically get by with spending less, I’ll give it to the WiiU again.

Winner: WiiU

Games

If you are looking ahead and hoping you can save a bit on the games, you can’t. They all MSRP at the same level!

Online

  • Microsoft xBox Live Gold - $59.99/year
  • Sony PS Plus - $49.99/year
  • Nintendo WiiU - $0

Note: Buy these ones directly from the console or from a bricks and mortar store.

Nintendo again. Play your games online for free!

The WiiU is the clear winner, but just for the sake of discussion, let’s talk about PS4 vs xBox One. PS Plus is required for online gaming and xBox Live Gold is required to do anything online. This means that if you want to use your xBox One with, as an example, Netflix, you need to buy your Netflix subscription and xBox Live Gold. PS4 only requires PS Plus for online gaming. On top of that, PS Plus is $10 less per year.

Other considerations

This is something I’ve been telling people since the GameCube, PS2, and xBox days. You need to consider your needs when you buy a console. Are you buying a console for a seven year old? Right now, as far as games go, WiiU is the best for little kids. The thing is that little kids grow up. This generation of consoles is likely going to last around eight years. When your seven year old is a fifteen year old, he (or she) might want something that has some more adult game selections. What’s a parent to do? Well, I say get a PS4. The xBox skews more towards adult games, WiiU is kid-leaning and the PS4 fits in the middle. This argument seems to get less and less true as the years go by and exclusive titles become more of a rarity, but it still rings true to an extent, so keep that in mind. There are still games that won’t make it to the WiiU. Do you really want to pick up a new console when your thirteen year old is bored of the games coming out on the WiiU?

Conclusion

If you are thinking in terms of cost from the time you step in the store to the time you are playing, the WiiU wins. There is no double about that. In a lot of people’s minds, however, the real battle is between the PS4 and xBox One for various reasons that I won’t discuss here. If that is your dilemma, PS4 is the winner. Sony punched Microsoft right in the eye with a knife wielding koala when they announced their $100 undercut on price. It further solidified itself as the best value by announcing that, while PS Plus will be needed for gaming online, you won’t need it for any other services like Netflix.
