Canadian Freebie: The Sandinista Project Music Download

Posted by Anna Waters on March 9, 2010 at 11:00 PM

I saw this downloadable freebie over on BoingBoing, a blog which I read every day. One of the authors there has a little project, in which they got 36 performers to record one song from The Clash’s Sandinista.

The result is a rather interesting, eclectic album, which you can now download for free. Here are the artists taken from a press release:

Canadian Freebie: The Sandinista Project Music DownloadFeatures The Smithereens, Camper Van Beethoven, Jon Langford & Sally Timms, Amy Rigby, Katrina Leskanich (Waves), Wreckless Eric, Willie Nile, Matthew Ryan, Stew, Sex Clark Five, Sid Griffin & Coal Porters and many more.

I’ve just downloaded it and I’m giving it a listen. It’s a very strange mix!

    Ends Sunday 14th March 2010.

Free Music Download: New Smashing Pumpkin

Free Music Download: New Smashing Pumpkin

Get two new Smashing Pumpkin songs free!

All you have to do is click “Download now” to get two new Smashing Pumpkin songs.

    Tracks include:

    • Widow wake my mind
    • A song for a son

For any Smashing Pumpkin fans or music fans in general, here are two free songs, no strings attached. Getting music on the mp3 player is becoming much more of a hassle and more expensive. It’s great to have bands appreciate fans enough to give us free songs.

The songs are good, but my favourite Smashing Pumpkin song is still “Today.”

Itunes Canada: Free 7 Song Christmas Sampler!

Decks the hills with brows of folly… ok, so I’m not quite sure of the words on that one, so maybe I need to download this free album from itunes Canada!

They are giving away a full album, loaded with 20 classic Christmas tunes, such as Silent Night, 12 Days of Christmas, Baby It’s Cold Outside… UPDATE: apparently we can only get the 7 song sampler in Canada. Thanks for the comments guys!

From the songs in the list, I don’t know all of them, I know about half of them. Plus, I didn’t know Greensleeves was a Christmas tune!

    Itunes Canada: 20 Free Songs!

Posted by Anna Waters on November 8, 2009 at 12:00 PM

    Itunes Canada: 20 Free Songs!

This is a freebie for those of us Bargainmoosers who use Facebook. If you become a fan of the iTunes Canada group, they will send you a coupon code to claim 20 free songs, in their Fall Sampler!

The 20 free tunes include artists such as Rancid, New Found Glory, Neko Case, Booker T, NASA, Swell Season and more (thanks Beagle). I haven’t heard of many of those artists, apart from Booker T and New Found Glory.

I actually don’t use iTunes so I won’t be claiming this freebie. If you do get it, it would be great to hear your opinions in the comments below.

    Happy listening!

Napster Free Trial: Get 30 Days Free Music Downloads!

Posted by Anna Waters on October 21, 2009 at 11:00 PM

Napster Free Trial: Get 30 Days Free Music Downloads!

There’s a Napster coupon code which gets you a free Napster 30 day trial, instead of the regular 7 day evaluation period! That’s more than quadruple the freebie! You can download and listen to as much music as you want in the 30 day period.

Click here for your free 30 day Napster trial

    • Coupon Code: NTGCRECA07
    • Discount: Free 30 day trial

Now, apparently this coupon code only works on Napster.ca, not on any of the other domains. When you click through to Napster.ca, you’ll see a little image on the right hand side which says “Napster cards & promo codes,” and you click the “redeem” button. This automatically starts the Napster download and you can enter the promo code on the first page of registration.

Just a point to note: if you decide not to continue on with the subscription after your 30 day Napster trial is over, you do not get to keep the music.

    iTunes Canada: 25 Free Songs!!

Posted by Anna Waters on September 20, 2009 at 11:00 AM

    iTunes Canada: 25 Free Songs!!

If you’d like to add some more free songs to your ever growing music collection, you can actually get 25 free tunes courtesy of iTunes Canada and their facebook group.

You should see the banner on their group page, they call this the “back to school sampler” promotion. It’s actually a facebook app called “free on itunes” and you have to allow it access to your facebook profile.

The songs are preset, you don’t get to choose them. There are bands like Great Lake Swimmers, Dragonette, Inward Eye, The Dudes and Thrice.

This kind of Canadian freebie is great in that it introduces you to lots of little bands that you may never have heard of otherwise, and gives you a chance to broaden your audio horizons!

After you get your free songs, you don’t have to keep on being a fan of the facebook group if you don’t want to, just unfan them (or whatever that process is called)!

There are songs from 22 different bands, many of whom I have not heard of though. But I have heard of Dragonette - they are actually one of my favorite bands at the minute. One of their best songs is take it like a man – see it here on youtube.

Have you heard of any of the other bands in the list? What are they like?

    Thanks flattop341!

Canadian Freebies: Free iTunes Song Download

Posted by admin on August 9, 2009 at 2:00 PM

Canadian Freebies: Free iTunes Song Download

iTunes has partnered with Starbucks to bring us a “Single of the Week” every Tuesday. Just drop into Starbucks, and pick up your free itunes download card (They are located where you usually pick up your beverage).

    • Download Code: See back of card (each code is unique, can be used once)
    • Discount: 1 Free Song, chosen by iTunes
    • Conditions: Have an iTunes Account
    • Expiry: Two Months from date of issue

You do not need to purchase anything from Starbucks in order to get your free song.

New cards are put out every Tuesday morning, and are left on the counter until they are all gone. There have been occasions where I went to Starbucks on a Thursday and they were still there, but other times when I went on a Tuesday night and they were all gone, so be quick!!!

This may not be a fantastic deal for those who download ALL of their songs for free, but for the few of us who purchase all of our music, it’s a nice treat!

I know we are on Bargainmoose, and we’re all about saving money, but is there anyone out there that still buys their music??? Leave a comment below!

Emusic Canada: Get 25 Free Songs!

Posted by Anna Waters on May 7, 2009 at 10:16 AM

Emusic Canada: Get 25 Free Songs!

This deal has been around for quite a while, but I’m not sure everyone is aware of it. If you join emusic online, you can instantly download 25 free tunes. It’s free music, and it’s not illegally downloaded! There are over 5 million songs to choose from. Whether you like David Bowie or David Gray, there’s probably something for everyone.

The free emusic trial lasts for a week, but you can cancel it at any time. You get to keep the 25 mp3s too.

If you do decide to continue with a subscription after your trial is complete, the songs are still priced pretty reasonably (from 30c). Even after you buy songs, you can keep the tunes you have downloaded. There is no DRM here.

One drawback is that you do have to enter your credit card details before you can join, so I’d make a note that you remember to cancel the service within a week, if you wish to do so.

Remember, you can also get free cashback – $3.90us from Dealguild! Can’t say no to free money! As of today’s exchange rate, that is $4.56 for free just for trying the emusic service! Free tunes and free cash – I’m a happy bunny!

The album is called LeftRightLeftRightLeft and will feature 9 tracks of live recordings of their songs, which were recorded on their Viva La Vida tour.

Here is the full track listing:

    Free ColdPlay Album Download: LeftRightLeftRightLeft!

    8. Fix You
    9. Death And All His Friends

    Some good songs in there!

I’ve been a ColdPlay fan since their album, Parachutes. I think the first song I ever heard was “Yellow.” I’ve you’ve never really listened to ColdPlay, give that a try and see if you like it enough to download the new free album.

So write the date in your diary, set a reminder on your phone, or subscribe to my email alerts, and make sure you get the free music on the 15th!

Cents For Songs @ Dell Canada!

Posted by Anna Waters on March 17, 2009 at 2:28 PM

Cents For Songs @ Dell Canada!

I was quite surprised to see that Dell Canada is expanding into the downloadable music industry! Dell is selling various music bundles, and you can buy credits for downloading tunes. You can download mp3s or WMA files.

    Here’s the deal:

I think it’s a pretty good idea. Say you want to buy a few single songs, but not a whole album.

It would even be good for downloading whole albums – U2s new album “No line on the Horizon” is $13.99 @ Amazon Canada. It contains 11 songs. Say you had purchase the 30 credit bundle, then the album would only cost you $7.37 from Dell. Let’s try another example. The Killers “Day & Age” is $12.99 on Amazon, containing 10 songs. Use your cheap credits, and download it for only $6.70.

It doesn’t sound too complicated either. You buy your bundle, and they email you a PIN code. Then you go through checkout with your chosen songs in your cart, and redeem the PIN there.

And as far as I know, you should be able to get 1.5% cashback too.

I have quite a nice little mp3 collection. At one point, I ripped all my CDs to mp3, and put them all away in storage. Even when people buy me new CDs nowadays, I just save them as mp3 and listen to them in that way. The last album I received was Katy Perry, One Of The Boys. It’s been blasting from my speakers for a week or two now. Cents For Songs @ Dell Canada!

    • Body Buzz by Aloha
    • Pizza You by Shades Of Al Davis

    Thanks _dai_.

Free Christmas Music From Oprah! (Download mp3s)

Posted by Anna Waters on November 27, 2008 at 11:59 AM

Over the next 48 hours, you can download these 8 Christmas songs for free, from the Oprah website. Here are the Christmas mp3 tunes:

Free Christmas Music From Oprah! (Download mp3s)

    • Faith Hill, “Joy to the World”
    • Tony Bennett, “I’ll be Home for Christmas”
    • Il Divo, “O Holy Night”
    • Josh Groban, “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear”
    • Brian McKnight, “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”
    • Amy Grant, “O Come All Ye Faithful”
    • Harry Connick Jr., “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”
    • Aretha Franklin, “Silent Night”

Who can say no to free Christmas music!!

You can also download the CD cover and CD label, if you want to burn these onto CD and make your own disc for it.

You really know the Christmas season is coming when you’re walking round the stores in early November, and you hear the warbles of Cliff Richard in “Mistletoe And Wine” or the wails of Paul McCartney in “Wonderful Christmas Time.”

I must admit I do like some Christmas songs… they’re fun, and catchy and do help to put me in the Christmas spirit. For example, The Supremes’ “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,” never fails to get me jumping!

Although these ones from Oprah seem to be more of the religious bent… even so, still nice for free!!

    Thanks for the pic jerkytourniquet.

    UPDATE – available again for 48 hours – 18th December 2008.
