Cosmo Music – The Musical Instrument Superstore, has been around since 1966.  Starting out as a small business importing guitars from Italy and Japan, Cosmo Music has grown into the world’s most exciting and interactive music making environment.  If you are in, or find yourself in the Richmond Hill, Ontario area, this looks like a really neat place to visit.  They even have a music hall for live performances!  For the rest of us, there is a great virtual tour available to let you see what the retail location is all about.

As far as musical instruments go, Cosmo Music sells pretty much anything you can think of.  Their sale section is really fun, offering up to 90% off!  Check the details of each sale item as they might be demos, open box or scratch & dent.  These are really great ways to save some money for the musician in your life.

I nearly lost my mind when I found Cosmo Music’s selection of guitars.  We are a musical family and I have been thinking about getting my kids their own guitars for some time.  The ½ size guitars are a great way to start.  The Beaver Creek BCTD401 ½ Size Acoustic Guitar in Pink ($114.99, reg. $155) would be perfect for my musical little lady.

My little guy turns everything into a drum.  I have long been considering a drum kit for him, and now that we live in the country with no neighbours, I think I have found the perfect kit: Peavey Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Jr. Drum Kit w/Thron ($149.99, reg. $199.99).

Should you be in the Richmond Hill, Ontario area, Cosmo School of Music offers a whole catalogue of private and group lessons, music therapy, camps and workshops for musicians of every level.  As a bonus, all students receive a 5% discount off all regular-priced merchandise and rentals.  Sweet deal!

Always remember to check out the Bargainmoose forum for more Cosmo Music coupons. Heavy items and remote addresses are not included in this promotion.

Hoopla: Borrow Music, Movies, & TV Shows for Free Through Your Library

Hoopla: Borrow Music, Movies, & TV Shows for Free Through Your Library

Libraries across Canada are starting to team up with a company called Hoopla: a netflix like program that lets you borrow free video, music, and audiobooks with your library card. You can enjoy them on your PC, tablet, or phone.

There are some major bonuses to this system:

  • unlimited number of copies available
  • start streaming content immediately
  • can download a title to your phone or tablet for offline viewing
  • they return it for you at the end of the lending period (no late fees)

I have been super impressed with their music collection. I’m totally into symphonic metal right now and they have had a huge selection of the Scandinavian bands I listen to. Hoopla has an online vault of over 10,000 films and 250,000 music albums. While it is taking a while for Canadian libraries to get on board with the system, there are a bunch who already are registered with Hoopla. here are some of the ones I know about:

  • Toronto Public Library
  • Kitchener Public Library
  • Winnipeg Public Library
  • Edmonton Public Library
  • Vancouver Island Regional Library
  • Greater Victoria Public Library
  • Hamilton Public Library
  • North Vancouver Public Library
  • Oakville Public Library
  • Saskatoon Public Library

… and many more.

Not all libraries have the same agreement with Hoopla. For example, I have Hoopla through Vancouver Island Regional Island and we have access to audiobooks whereas I hear Toronto Public Library’s agreement does not include audiobooks. Each library also will have its own rules: my library allows twelve items to be borrowed a month. I get each CD for seven days and I think movies for three days.

Either way it is a fantastic – free – system that you have to check out. If your library doesn’t have Hoopla yet, maybe send them a little note of encouragement.

Audials Canada: Sale On Music Streaming & Recording Software

Posted by on April 29, 2014 at 10:30 AM

Audials Canada: Sale On Music Streaming & Recording Software

Audials has all their software packages on sale for 20% to 38% off regular prices right now.

What is Audials? Frankly, it is a different way of looking at music. Their base web recorder software lets you save music videos or music video tracks from Internet sites and subscription services (make MP3 recordings) directly on your PC or in the cloud. You can also record movies and TV shows while you watch them.

Their streaming software allows you to easily find and listen to your pick of 85,000 of the best online radio music stations. Then, when you find music you like, it is simple to record your favourite songs right off the streaming feed and add them to your own music collection. Songs are perfectly recorded to the second as MP3, WMA or AAC files from Radio streams, complete with ID3 tags, album artwork, images and song lyrics.

There are other features as well, we are just getting started really. The Universal Converter allows you to reformat all types of files including music, audiobook, DVDs, and movies. That way you always have the right file format for your PC, tablet, eReader, or smartphone. The features your Audial package gives you all depend on which package you buy.

Now, different versions of Audials will have different levels of features. Audials Mediaraptor 11 has the base web recorder and media center which will expand your music collection into the stratosphere. Originally $39.90, it is on sale for $24.90. Audials One 11 hooks you up with Music-and-more, Streaming, Universal Converter, as well as a Media Center. Originally $79.90, it is now on sale for $59.90. I really want that one… the streaming feature is out of this world amazing.

You can also test their software out for free, just check out the website!

Amazon.com: Free Song Downloads

Posted by on February 25, 2014 at 2:30 PM

Amazon.com: Free Song Downloads

Get free song downloads at Amazon.com from up and coming artists.

To get these free songs, you will have to enter billing information, like your name, address and credit card, but you will not be billed. There is quite the selection of songs, and even if you aren’t sure you’ll like a song, you might as well download it anyway since it is free. The song could be something that grows on you and you could love as you hear it, even if initially it didn’t peak your interest. This has happened to me a number of times, even from big stars like Beyoncé and Pearl Jam.

If you wanted, you could also read the reviews of each song, and then decide which ones you want to download. What I love about free downloads is that if you really, really hate it after you download, the delete button is way too easy.

I see music from every genre available like country, rap, alternative rock and more. I haven’t heard of any of the artists on the list, but that makes it even more fun, discovering new music.

Since these are digital downloads, there are no shipping costs or even taxes. Everything is free.

The Source Canada: Jay Turser Electric Guitar Only $110 (Was $160)

The Source Canada: Jay Turser Electric Guitar Only $110 (Was $160)

If you have a music lover on your gift list, check out this deal at the Source, with up to 40% off musical instruments and accessories. While I price compared most of the deals here, many of them were the same price elsewhere, except this Jay Turser electric guitar, which is now only $109.99, was $159.99.

For the developing musician, this electric guitar has a double cutaway body, white pick guard, rosewood fingerboard, and maple neck. It looks classic and has great sound. There is a volume control and two tone controllers, as well as a five-way pickup selector and chrome die cast tuners.

I found a few reviews for this guitar online including this one:

This guitar is awesome in ways and bad in others. For the price this guitar kicks ass. Its best sound quality is in clean electric, the notes are bright and clear. Distortion is where this guitar lags behind. Chords are sometimes hard to make out, and the pickups hum really bad. You can get rid of this hum by selecting 2 pickups at once, but then the sound quality is lower…This guitar is well put together. It’s durable, fairly light weight and balanced really nice. When you get a strap on it it rests perfectly flat against you. The pickups were fairly well adjusted (their pretty cheap so they are probably at their full potential).

Depending on what you need, this makes an affordable guitar that is durable, has good sound quality, and may make a great gift idea.

Shipping is free for this item. Check our free shipping page for more companies offering free shipping with no minimum spends.

Roots Canada: Free Collection Of Holiday Music

Posted by on December 8, 2013 at 3:00 PM

Roots Canada: Free Collection Of Holiday Music

Roots Canada is offering a free holiday music bundle on iTunes. I really appreciate these free music bundles as a way to get to know new artists.

I am not a huge fan of free music, but there are some classic names in this collection I just had to have. You will get the following songs:

  • Jingle Bells by Bing Crosby & The Andrews Sisters
  • Christmas Time With You (feat. Andre Miguel Mayo) by David Ian
  • Christmas for You and Me by Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors
  • God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen by Ella Fitzgerald
  • Christmas Kiss by Meaghan Smith
  • A Snowglobe Christmas by Pink Martini

If for no other reason, getting this collection for Ella Fitzgerald’s voice is totally worth it. However, my personal favourite is Bing Crosby *fangirl scream*! I just adore the man and this is a lovely classic rendition of Jingle Bells. I haven’t listened to the other songs… yet!

All Star Learning Canada: Baby Grand Piano $160 & Free Shipping

All Star Learning Canada: Baby Grand Piano $160 & Free Shipping

If you want to get your music-inclined child an amazing gift, check out this Schoenhut Baby Grand Piano, now on for $159.99, was $184.99. Also, you’d think a large item like this might cost quite a bit in shipping, but it ships for free!

Made for age 3-7, this piano is gorgeous with curved legs and comes in white, black or pink. It is durable as well, as we know toddlers and young children can be rough of their stuff. This piano is the perfect way to introduce your child to music before switching to a larger model.

I priced compared this model of piano and couldn’t find it for less than $200 and Amazon even has it for $239. There are over 100 reviews on Amazon and it is given an overall 4.5 stars, which is pretty great! One reviewer said:

This little grand piano is beautiful and will make a very nice gift for your budding Mozart. I don’t think toddlers will care that it’s so sturdy, shiny, and pretty; they’ll just want to bang away at the keys. The sound is like every other cheap toy piano – loud, high, and tinny, but it’s for fun and who knows where it can lead?

SiriusXM Internet Radio: 12 Months For $48

Posted by on November 6, 2013 at 11:00 PM

SiriusXM Internet Radio: 12 Months For $48

Get a full year of SiriusXM Internet radio for only $48!

First thing to know is that this is Internet radio not satellite radio. So this won’t work with your car’s satellite radio system but rather with your computer, smartphone or tablet. It’s basically the same service except it’s delivered over the internet as opposed to a satellite.

Normally the service is $95.88 but you save $47.88. It’s yours for $48! Pretty sweet deal.

Now, last time I wrote up a deal for SiriusXM, someone mentioned that they are pretty slimy with trying to keep you using their service. Well, I signed up for a free trial just to try it out. I knew I wasn’t going to use it because I don’t really like music all that much and I am always listening to podcasts and audiobooks in the car. So even though the service is great, I cancelled before my free trial was up. Then I got billed by SiriusXM. I was looking towards a fight to get my money back but when I called them up the lady who helped me refunded my money immediately and I saw the transaction come through my bank three days later! Other than the initial issues it was a great experience.

Pringles: 3 Free MP3s With Pringles Purchase

Posted by on October 21, 2013 at 11:30 PM

Pringles: 3 Free MP3s With Pringles Purchase

Pringles is offering Canadians a nice extra gift when you purchase a can of Pringles. Just mail in your original receipt complete with your song order form and you will receive download codes for three free songs (of your choice) from the Pringles’ digital store.

I would not purchase a can of Pringles just to get the songs as the cost of the Pringles and the cost of the stamp sort of defeats the purpose. However, if you buy Pringles anyway (my husband loves them) this is a great freebie for Canadians. Evidently the US version of this offer only gives out two songs.

Peter from My Bulging Wallet sent this deal to us and he said “I’ve used Pringles’ digital store to download some songs. It has a pretty broad selection.” That is always my concern. Since I buy all my music legit, I value free mp3 offers but worry about the selection of websites offering deals like this. Good to hear they have a decent selection. Thanks Peter!

Music Notes Freebie: October Free Downloads

I’ve told you about Music Notes free downloads before, but now they have some great Halloween tunes for October to download for free!

It looks like every month means more new downloads of sheet music at Music Notes. This month, the song is “Have You Seen The Ghost of John?”. You can get the sheet music for many types of instruments for this song like guitar, piano, viola and much more.

On top of having this month’s free download, they have even more free sheet music, plus so much you can buy for cheap! They have a giant list of Halloween songs for download and I think my favourite would be the Monster Mash!

The Source: Up to $25 Off Coby MP3 Players

The Source: Up to $25 Off Coby MP3 Players

Pick up a Coby Touchscreen MP3 player on sale at The Source Canada. Save $15 or $25 depending on which size you choose.

The Coby MP800 1.44″ touchscreen video MP3 player is on sale from $39.99 down to $24.99. This device has 4GB of integrated flash memory and is a compact MP3 player for people on the go.

The COBY MP823 2″ touchscreen video MP3 player was $59.99 and is now on sale for $34.99. It has 8GB of integrated flash memory for those with larger music collections.

The devices both feature:

  • Colour TFT LCD screen
  • Plays music, video, photos and text
  • Integrated FM radio
  • ID3 and LRC support for song and lyric information display
  • USB 2.0 hi-speed for fast file transfers
  • Integrated rechargeable battery

I price compared the bigger model with Future Shop Canada. They have it for $49.95, so The Source is significantly cheaper. Shipping is $4.99 but you can get it delivered to your local store for free.

I wrote about this sale because not everyone can afford an iPod and not everyone wants or even likes the iPod. This MP3 player is an affordable alternative that fits into almost any budget.

MusicNotes Freebie: Free Sheet Music Download

MusicNotes Freebie: Free Sheet Music Download

MusicNotes has been blogged before on Bargainmoose, with great deals on downloadable music sheets. However, did you know they offer free downloadable music sheets as well? If you aren’t looking for any particular music, why not try a free sheet of music? This is also a great way to grow or start a sheet music collection for the beginner or a teacher of a music class.

Each month, Music Notes offers a different freebie. This month the freebie is Down By The Bay, as originally recorded by Raffi. You can get the piano, vocal or chords music sheets for this tune. They also have other instruments and sheet music for Down By The Bay. This song is a fun one for little ones and you can customize your lyrics, too.

As well, there are a number of other free music sheets available for download on a regular basis. Right now, these include Lolita, Hello Ma Baby, Last Straw and more. They also have free blank sheet music paper for download and printing.

iTunes Canada: Greatest Hit Albums Only $6.99

iTunes Canada has a nice deal on greatest hit albums. These albums are on sale for only $6.99 each for this weekend only.

Select from these ten albums:

I have to go old-fashioned on this one: I am mostly interested in the greatest hits of Fleetwood Mac and Journey, both fabulous bands of their time. I have heard really good things about Radiohead though, and might check their greatest hits out as a good way to get introduced to a new-to-me band.
