Buytopia Canada: 75% Off Portable MP3 Player – Now Just $10

Posted by on April 22, 2015 at 6:10 PM

Buytopia Canada: 75% Off Portable MP3 Player Now Just $10

Buytopia has a fantastic deal right now: you can get a portable MP3 player with a built-in USB drive for just $10, which is a 75% reduction from its original $40 price.

You can get this handy MP3 player in the following choices of colours: red, blue or black. Earphones are pictured in Buytopia’s image of this product, which you can see above, but there is no mention as to whether these are actually included or not.

I’m sure many of you are wondering about the storage, but oddly enough, Buytopia doesn’t list the memory capacity.

If you look at a close up of this portable MP3 player on Buytopia’s site, then you will also see that it says: “MIC” on the side. This makes me think that there might be recording feature but this too isn’t mentioned in Buytopia’s description.

To add your music, you will simply need to plug the USB into your computer and transfer away. Since it is a USB drive, you might also be able to store a couple of files but you would have to try it to see.

This Buytopia deal is set to expire in 3 days from now, which according to my calculations, should be on Friday, April 24th but Buytpoia’s deals don’t always expire when they are set to. So if you are interested in this deal, first all, don’t delay as it might sell out and second of all, don’t wait until the very last day either. There are good chances that this deal will be extended past the “3 days remaining” as it happens with a lot of their deals, but you just never know!

The only downside to this offer is that shipping is $4.95 but even then, it’s a pretty awesome deal, especially since taxes are already included. Keep in mind that the way Buytopia’s site operates is that your item will ship 4-6 weeks after the deal ends on their site, so you won’t necessarily get it right away. If it does end within the next couple of days, then you can expect your order in May, but hopefully well before that of course!

Google Play Store: Free Music from Nickelback, Maroon 5, & More

Google Play Store: Free Music from Nickelback, Maroon 5, & More

The Google Play store has a bunch of free music you can download right now. I found a few completely free albums and a bunch of single songs just free for the taking. Hurry on over as I have no idea how long this offer with last.

I am not familiar with all these artists so I really cannot make recommendations (for most of it) on what is good or not. Music is also highly subjective, so what I like you may think is trash. Here are the albums you can download for free:

Here is a list of the individual tracks you can download for free at the Google Play Store:

As you can see, this is a lengthy list. If you are open to different music genres, then you can download 63 tracks through the above links. That is a hefty freebie when you consider that Google Play Store has a flat rate of $1.29 per song (or better price for albums).

I do not know any of the other artists or bands besides Nickelback and Maroon 5. I might experiment a bit, but I know for sure that I am downloading the Maps song by Maroon 5 and the What Are You Waiting For? song by Nickelback. Those tracks are worth my time to sign in (or sign up) for a Google Play store account. In fact, there are ridiculously good reviews for the new Maroon 5 song. This reviewer gushed:

Adam kills it! I’m not the one to listen to the newest music let alone buy the track only after listening to it only ONCE on the radio. “ain’t nothin I can do” but listen to it on repeat!

If you know some of the other bands, then please drop us a line to give your song recommendations. I love music, but we all have our expertise and certain genres that we are more familiar with than other people.

Google Play Store: 88 Billie Holiday Songs for $1.99

Posted by on March 17, 2015 at 3:49 PM

Google Play Store: 88 Billie Holiday Songs for $1.99

Google Play Store has an entire collection of Billie Holiday songs on promotion for just $1.99. Each song would regularly cost $1.29, so this is one heck of a deal.

At this price, you will pay just over 2¢ per song. Even if you just like a couple Billie Holiday songs, at this price it is worth purchasing the entire collection. Just for a little fun with math, if you purchased all 88 songs at their retail price of $1.29, then you would be spending $113.52. That is a lot of money!

Now, I know a bit of Billie Holiday but I am no means an expert. She was an American Jazz singer with quite the voice. While the recording is a bit dated, I find the music pleasant to listen to when in the mood. I generally like a little sprinkle of jazz in the evenings or around dinnertime as background music. It is sultry, relaxing, and elegant all at the same time.

Enjoy such songs as:

  • Easy Living
  • God Bless The Child
  • Solitude
  • I Gotta Right To Sing The Blues
  • Strange Fruit

I think I only have heard one or two of her songs before. However, I listened to the preview of about 10 of these songs before I started this blog post. Her music is quite enjoyable and I hope many of our Moosers like this little deal.

Strange Fruit has a bit of a story behind it. This song deals with racial hatred at a time when speaking about it, especially if you were African American, was taboo and could get you beaten or killed. As one NY Times article says:

“Strange Fruit” became a nightly ritual for Holiday, then one of her most successful records, then one of her signature songs, at least in those places where it was safe to perform. For throughout Holiday’s short life—she died in 1939 at the age of forty-four—the song existed in a kind of artistic quarantine: it could travel, but only to selected places.

It is a song that continues to be revered as it was bold for that time period and is still relevant today when racial prejudices and hatred still continue. This song is unique in her discography, and it requires a couple listens to understand.

Pick up all these songs and more for just $1.99. As the music is digital, no shipping costs either!

12-Month Xbox Music Pass Was $99 Now Only $31.41 @ Microsoft Canada TODAY Only! * Hot * (EXPIRED)

12 Month Xbox Music Pass Was $99 Now Only $31.41 @ Microsoft Canada TODAY Only! * Hot * (EXPIRED)

Here’s a deal which I think will be relevant for a few of you, specifically those who use Xbox and the Windows app store on its various devices. The “Xbox Music” audio service usually costs $99 for a year’s subscription. But right now from the Microsoft Store online, you can grab the 12 month pass for only $31.41!

Here’s a quick description of what you are getting with the 12-Month Xbox Music Pass:

Get a whole year of ad-free music and access to 30 million songs from one of the largest digital music catalogs on the planet.

Obviously there are a variety of other music services available for you to choose from, but this is actually a super-hot price for getting this service!

For me, I usually use Spotify to stream music on my various devices, including my desktop PC and my iPad. I recently purchased a Microsoft Surface Pro and had a search for Spotify on the app store, only to find that the app wasn’t available there! I did see that Xbox Music was an option on the Surface Pro, but I was a little daunted because of the subscription cost. But for only $31 for the entire year, I’m going to grab this deal as soon as I’ve finished writing this post!

So, I don’t yet have the service and cannot give it a personal review for you guys, but I had a google to see what other people thought of the Xbox Music service instead. Moneysense has a comparison of some of the various services, comparing costs and what you are getting. Their view on Xbox Music is that it is great for gamers to stream some tunes while they are gaming.

Google Play Store: 99¢ Albums – Sam Smith, Drake, & Beck

Posted by on March 4, 2015 at 1:27 PM

Google Play Store: 99¢ Albums Sam Smith, Drake, & Beck

Google Play Store has discounted three albums from popular artists to only 99¢ each! Given that a single song usually retails for $1.29, this is a hot deal.

The three sale albums are as follows:

Sam Smith – In The Lonely Hour (Google Play Exclusive Deluxe Edition)

I highly recommend this album. Sadly, I just bought three songs from this album on iTunes, paying well over what the entire album would cost on Google. The album includes 15 and earns an overall rating of 4.7/5 on Google Play. My favourite songs are Stay With Me, I’m Not the Only One, and Like I Can. The album has a run time around 50 minutes.

Drake – Nothing Was The Same

This album comes with 13 songs for a total run time of just under one hour. Nothing Was The Same ranks a solid 4.5/5 on the Google rating scale. The album is explicit (watch out little ears) but appears to be well loved. I know nothing about the artist Drake, so if you do please comment.

Beck – Morning Phase

This is another artist I am not terribly familiar with. However, for 99¢ you are receiving 13 songs for a run time of approximately 47 minutes. This album was just released a year ago, so still fairly new. Morning Phase rates 4.3/5 stars, but with less than 800 reviews.

Now, make sure that you get directed to the Google Play store for Canada. These albums are full price at the US store right now. I found that Sam Smith’s album (only one I am personally interested in) retails for $10.49 US. I also price compared these digital albums to iTunes. Here is what you would expect to pay for each album currently on iTunes:

  • In The Lonely Hour – $7.99
  • Nothing Was the Same – $6.99 (E)
  • Morning Phase – $6.99

The Nothing Was the Same album was hard to price compare, as there are four different versions on iTunes! But I picked the one that matched the one on Google closest. There is a ‘clean’ version of this album but that is not the one being sold for 99¢ on the Google Play Store.

If you need a little inspiration, I have attached a YouTube video of Sam Smith singing Like I Can:

Six Free Songs from Brit Awards @ Google Play

Posted by on March 1, 2015 at 4:05 PM

Six Free Songs from Brit Awards @ Google Play

Google Play is giving out six free songs in celebration of the Brit Awards. For those of you not familiar, the Brit Awards are the British equivalent of the American Grammy Awards.

I am very pleased with this giveaway as the songs are not from obscure artists that no one has ever heard about these days. Rather, you are getting popular songs from major artists. All of these songs were recorded live at the BRITs.

Here is the list of songs you can download for free:

  • Sam Smith – Lay Me Down
  • Ed Sheeran – Bloodstream
  • George Ezra – Budapest
  • Paloma Faith – Only Love Can Hurt Like This
  • Royal Blood – Figure It Out
  • Take That – Let In The Sun

I only know the first two artists in the list. For me, this is such fortunate timing. While I was introduced to Sam Smith a bit ago, I only found out that he was the artist behind a few of my currently favourite songs. I will certainly be downloading Lay Me Down, as it is not a song I currently have. Sam Smith’s voice is amazing and I love the heart and soul he pours into his music.

Ed Sheeran only came onto my radar a month ago. A friend of mine, who loves music as much as I do, was sending me song suggestions and I was sending him suggestions too. In one way, we were playing “do you know this band” and in another, we were genuinely interested in introducing each other to new music. Ed Sheeran was a first for me as Royal Wood was a first for my friend.

This is a great list of songs, though I cannot vouch for the other artists. I suggest trying them all because free music is great. It does not cost you a cent and you can always delete the file if you do not like the song.

Ticketmaster Coupon Code: 2 for 1 Tickets

Ticketmaster has a special Valentine’s Day coupon code to score two tickets for the price of one! There are over 50 shows just in Canada to choose from so get your tickets now – they will probably sell out fast.

Click here to buy 2 for 1 tickets @ Ticketmaster Canada now

  • Coupon Code: TMN241
  • Discount: 2 tickets for the price of 1
  • Expiry: Unknown

There are some real gems here. Nickelback is on tour with stops in Toronto, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, and Vancouver. I was just looking at tickets for the Nickelback: No Fixed Address Tour when it hits Rogers Arena in Vancouver. I actually enjoy Nickelback, especially their early stuff. Chad has an amazing voice and their talent is obvious from the success they continue to have. I know haters are going to hate (and I have seen a lot of Canadian hate for our own success stories), but I am a lover of Nickelback.

Do you have a little taste for nostalgia? There are plenty of bands I know and love that were popular in my father’s younger years. ZZ Top is coming to Hamilton and Tom Cochrane is stopping in many cities including Toronto.

If you are looking for family fun, then consider tickets for Disney On Ice : Passport To Adventure or the mythical The Harlem Globetrotters (coming to PE!). Both of these are family friendly shows that will be fun for kids and adults alike. While not quite Disney on Ice, I did see Stars on Ice many years ago – it was terrific.

If you are travelling down to our southern friends, there are 500 qualifying shows in the United States! Why not book a show while you are down there and have yourself a grand old time.

Now, you must enter the coupon code on the map page (as shown below):

Ticketmaster Coupon Code: 2 for 1 Tickets

See that little thing that says “got an offer code?” – click that. Then enter your code. Not all types of tickets qualify for this offer. So, while I can still get pretty good seats at the Nickelback concert, I cannot use this promotion for floor seats.

There will be various seat limitations on most concerts and shows. Thus, you need to make sure the “2 for 1 Tickets” header shows up in your ticket type. This is still a pretty awesome deal as I can get two tickets to Nickelback for just shy of $65.

iTunes Canada: $4 Off Ed Sheeran X Album Just $5.99

iTunes Canada: $4 Off Ed Sheeran X Album Just $5.99

iTunes Canada is selling the Ed Sheeran X Album for just $5.99 on iTunes right now. This is a promotional price and it will go back up to $9.99 most likely.

I have to admit, I had never heard of this artist before this deal came up. I am a huge music-lover, but my current tastes are more towards symphonic metal and bands like Tool, Volbeat, Apocalyptica, and the like. However, I found many of the songs on this album pretty nice. I rather liked his slower songs like One, I’m a Mess, and Nina. A friend of mine actually sent me the music video for Thinking Out Loud, which is super sappy with a side of honey. It is a very sweet and a lovely song to dance to. It also appears to be the most popular song on the album, according to iTunes.

The X album includes the following songs:

  1. One
  2. Mess
  3. Sing
  4. Don’t
  5. Nina
  6. Photo
  7. Bloodstream
  8. Tenerife
  9. Runaway
  10. The Man
  11. Thinking Out Loud
  12. Afire Love

Each song would cost you $1.29 to purchase separately, so you can get the iTunes album for the value of around four songs. I like to purchase songs separately if I only like a few songs on an album. However, it is not worth purchasing these songs individually when the entire album is only $5.99.

It is hard to price compare digital music when iTunes has such a monopoly on the industry. However, you will not find this album cheaper anywhere else (well, unless you pirate it). Personally, while I keep my books and movies in physical copies, most my music is now digital – purchased off iTunes with iTunes cards that I purchased on sale. I think my last iTunes card was 20% off. Thus, if I bought this album it would be like spending 20% less on it. iTunes Canada: $4 Off Ed Sheeran X Album Just $5.99

If you are a big fan of Ed Sheeran, please post a comment and make song suggestions! We would love to hear your opinion on the album, what songs are your favourite, as well as any other interesting information you know about the artist.

This offer is on for a limited time only and could end at any time.

12 FREE Songs @ Google Play Store (Lorde, deadmau5, Miley, Coldplay, Daft Punk & More!)

Posted by on January 6, 2015 at 6:00 PM

12 FREE Songs @ Google Play Store (Lorde, deadmau5, Miley, Coldplay, Daft Punk & More!)

How many of you download your music, shows and movies? Okay, don’t actually answer that but whether you do or don’t, any opportunity at free songs should be one that you shouldn’t miss! Right now, the Google Play Store is offering 12 songs for free by popular artists like Miley Cyrus, Lorde, deadmau5, Paramore and a couple of others.

Once you click over to the Google Play Store’s page to get the free songs, you will see a selection of 12 images. Upon seeing these, I first thought that maybe full albums were available (if only!) but in fact, the cover photos displayed are either for the individual songs available for free or for the full album. If you see the name of the song in the picture, then you will only see that specific song once you click over but if you see the name of the full album, then you will also be able to buy the rest of the songs in that artist’s given album for $1.29 per song.

Here is the full list of all the songs that you can get for free:

  • Get Lucky by Daft Punk feat. Pharrell
  • Let Your Hair Down by MAGIC!
  • Royals by Lorde
  • A Sky Full of Stars by Coldplay
  • American Kids by Kenny Chesney
  • Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff by deadmau5
  • Delirious (Boneless) by Steve Aoki
  • Ain’t It Fun by Paramore
  • Timber by Pitbull feat. Ke$ha
  • Not A Bad Thing by Justin Timberlake
  • Problem by Ariana Grande
  • Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus

To get these free songs, you will need to first have a Google Play Store account and you will also need to add a payment method. The songs don’t cost anything, so it’s slightly perplexing as to why you would need to even add a payment method, especially since when it prompts you to do so, it will say: “$0.00″ but in any case, at lease you will get them for free! The good news is that if you don’t want to add a credit or debit card to your account, then you can link a PayPal account instead.

Moosers, what is your favourite song out of the ones available for free?

Google Play: FREE Download of Kelly Clarkson Greatest Hits (21 Songs)

Posted by on December 31, 2014 at 4:30 PM

Google Play: FREE Download of Kelly Clarkson Greatest Hits (21 Songs)

I have never considered myself a Kelly Clarkson fan; she was always a bit too country for me. However, her song Because of You strikes a deep chord with me. That song is just one of the 21 songs you will receive for free when you download your free copy of Kelly Clarkson’s Greatest Hits – Chapter One from the Google Play store.

Just for a little price comparing, I looked up the same album on iTunes. The album is on sale for $6.99 at iTunes right now as part of their holiday markdown. So at minimum, you are receive a $7 freebie. Each song would cost you $1.29 if purchased individually, so the highest value you are saving is $27.09 if you were ever to buy an album song by song.

The album includes some popular songs that I recognize:

  • Because of You
  • Since U Been Gone
  • Never Again
  • Mr. Know It All
  • Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)

There is also a nice little I’ll Be Home for Christmas to expand your holiday music collection Kelly Clarkson style. I will not list all the songs on this album (as you can just click through and see yourself) but I am rather jealous of this freebie. iTunes cancelled their 12 Days of Christmas, which usually starts on December 26th, so I am not getting an free music, videos, or more from iTunes this year. You android users are really getting the best freebies lately between this and the free Christmas albums that Google Play gave away as well. They also gave away an entire movie – it makes a girl want an android phone!

The album has great reviews including this one:

This album has her greatest hits its just amazing and if there is songs you don’t like you will grow to love them. I did.

Most the negative reviews are from people who do not like her as an artist and then complain about the music. I say if you do not like her, just do not download her album and stop leaving bad reviews.

FYI: you will need to verify ‘payment’ information when you checkout, but you will NOT be charged anything as long as the album says FREE.

Canadian Freebie: Three Free Christmas Albums @ Google Play

Canadian Freebie: Three Free Christmas Albums @ Google Play

Enjoy three free Christmas Albums full of holiday tunes from Google Play. You will need to sign into your Google account and then click through the links below to redeem your free holiday albums.

All the albums are from various artists so you will enjoy a good variety of voices and artistic flare throughout the three albums. There may even be some names you recognize in the list. I am pleased to see a couple compositions from composer Leonard Bernstein. I went to a concert that sampled his various music where I learned to appreciate his unique compositions. I think my favourite of his music on this album will be Bernstein’s version of Nutcracker Suite, Op. 71a: Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy – Andante non troppo.

While I do not recognize many other names, the name of Placido Domingo should be familiar to most people. Placido Domingo was one of the three tenors when Luciano Pavarotti was still alive. On the Christmas Favourites album, Domingo gives us a beautiful rendition of Cantique de Noel (Oh Holy Night).

This is a lovely little freebie from the Google Play store. Enjoy the variety of classic Christmas songs performed by orchestra and operatic singers. You also receive an album of classical songs with a more modern performance. The YouTube Audio Library gives you each song in a vocal or an instrumental version with several different versions of a few songs.

I think this is a fun little freebie for the holiday season. Pick up all three albums and enjoy several hours of free music.

Hey Moosers, what is your favourite Christmas song?

Either way, these headphones aren’t your run-of-the-mill pair – you’ll be able to indulge in your music playlist and listen to your favourite tunes the way they were meant to be heard. You won’t be able to do that with your stock pair of headphones that come with your cell phone or iPod!

These Focal Spirit One Closed-Back Headphones currently sell for $246.46 on Amazon. I’ve included a brief review of these premium headphones from a satisfied Amazon customer below:

There is no possible comparison. It is good that there is a brand that is more worried about the sound quality than on the aesthetics of a headphone.

Happy hunting, my fellow Bargainmoosers!

Secure fit. Sound is clear. I would buy these for my nieces or nephew as a gift which they could use or destroy with hurting my pocket book.

These lightweight clip-on headphones may not remain in-stock for long, so if you want some affordable Sony headphones, you should check out this deal at NCIX. I hope you’re all having a great Sunday!
