    MEC Canada: Clearance Sale

Posted by on February 28, 2013 at 10:00 PM

    MEC Canada: Clearance Sale

Mountain Equipment Coop Canada has great deals on discontinued items. Quantities are limited!

Men, women, and children’s outerwear and clothing are on sale. The discounts are big enough they even caught my attention: and I am a hard sell! Check out these:

There are 449 products on sale – I know, crazy! Just pick your person (man | woman | child ) and go shopping! I checked out the women’s section and was surprised by how many really good deals there were.

My favourite, though not the best deal, is this MEC Peacoat Jacket (Women’s) that was $165 and is now $99. I love peacoats because they dress up jeans and they flatter the body much better than just a regular jacket. It is available in dark blue or dark purple – but I prefer the dark blue.

Shipping is free on orders of $50 or more.

Mountain Equipment Co-op Canada: 50% Off Clearance Items

Mountain Equipment Co op Canada: 50% Off Clearance Items

Mountain Equipment Co-op claims they don’t have sales, instead they have clearance prices on discontinued items. There are some great deals here at Mountain Equipment Co-op on some fine merchandise.

This men’s Northern Lite Ultra jacket is water-resistant, with mapped insulation to give you warmth in the places you need it, and streamlined where you don’t. The hood is helmet-compatible with a reinforced brim to keep precipitation out of your eyes. There’s even a headphone port for your music player. This is a great hiking or skiing jacket, and quite the deal at only $95, regularly $185.

The description for this women’s DWR-treated down jacket says that it is a great deal at less than $250, so it must be a super awesome deal at only $135 (reg. $230). This is a really warm jacket stays dry and is compact and packable, which is great for extended tours and alpine expeditions. The baffled construction makes sure the insulation stays in place. This is a durable and practical jacket for a great price.

This Neve down youth’s vest is perfect for the cool Spring or Fall weather. In fashionable orange or blue, this lightweight and compressible jacket fits right in your child’s backpack so they have it when they need it. This is a great deal at only $27, regularly $55. I’ve purchased vests at that price at a much lower quality.

Although this item is not technically on sale, it is a great price (I’ve paid way more for it in the past) and one of the most important baby items I’ve ever bought. This one-piece long-sleeved NoZone sun suit is a godsend. With a UPF of over 50, this suit keeps your child protected from the sun without sunscreen, which I find really important, since I don’t believe in sunscreen on small children because of all the harmful chemicals. This suit dries super quick, so your child isn’t sitting there in a full body suit freezing and sopping wet. The fabric almost seems dry right out of the water. Only $35.

Shipping is free on orders of $50 or more.

MEC: 25% Off Continental Town And Country Bike Tires

MEC: 25% Off Continental Town And Country Bike Tires

I recently sold my car and moved to Vancouver where I’ve become a cycling fanatic. As any cyclist knows, having the appropriate tires for biking conditions is paramount. But Vancouver has a mix of paved paths and some of the best trail riding our country has to offer. Tires that roll easy on pavement, aren’t necessarily the best for off-roading, where you need more grip. Enter the Continental Town and Country to give you the best of both worlds in one tire.

I paid $50 for mine several years ago and now you can get them for $30 (Reg $40) from Mountain Equipment Co-op.

Here’s what one reviewer had to say about them:

I am extremely happy with this tire. On their website, Continental even boasts that Police bike units all across the globe use this tire. Strong, Durable and versatile. How could you go wrong with this all-around tire? I look forward to the thousands of kilometers this tire can roll to. (MEC does have the cheapest price)

I’ve personally ridden on these tires for almost 1000 kms, through mud, rain, a little ice, on long flats and steeps hills, and even through broken glass and they still look new and have never been punctured.

Shipping is free if you spend at least $50, so a pair of these tires won’t cost you anything to ship.

Mountain Equipment Co-op Canada: Free Bike Safety Check

Mountain Equipment Co op Canada: Free Bike Safety Check

Bike season might soon be over, but you still have time to get your bike into Mountain Equipment Canada for a free bike safety check.

If you or your child’s bike is in need of repairs, you can bring your bike in and a bike mechanic will inspect it, and recommend the service needed based on your bike’s condition. From the link above you can also click on your city to find out the tune up prices in your area and the additional services available.

Speaking specifically about children’s bikes, Fiona from Vancouver’s Bike Shop says,

Don’t forget we’re happy to do a free safety check on your kid’s bike at MEC’s Bike Shops. You don’t have to book an appointment, and we can usually do it in ten to fifteen minutes while you wait or shop. We’ll make any repair recommendations and you can decide for yourself whether you want them.

I’d suggest safety checking your child’s bike at least twice a year. In spring, because that’s when most bikes get pulled out of storage, and in the fall, because that’s when many kids will be riding their bikes to school after putting a lot of wear and tear on them over the summer.

My bike definitely needs an overhaul. I’m pretty sure I’ve got loose brakes among other things. While I’m not ready to upgrade to a new bike, I’d like this one to last for a few more years.

MEC: Free Shipping on orders over $40

MEC rarely has sales. In fact they are so rare, I don’t remember one. However, to celebrate 40 years of existence Mountain Equipment Co-op is offering free shipping on orders of $40+. Thanks to Mooser Mylene for sending us this deal!

This does not apply to oversized items like skis, and max weight is 30 kgs. Any orders under $40 will ship for $6.50. For all the rules and regs. read here.

Of course the first place I hit on their website is the clearance section. They have 4 long pages of glorious discounted products for you to peruse. I immediately decided that the MEC Cortina 2 Pullover Hoodie (Women’s) regularly $49 now $33 deserved a closer look.

Deal expires the 20th, April 2011.

MEC: Clearance Section Gives Good Discounts

MEC: Clearance Section Gives Good Discounts

If you don’t know MEC – you aren’t Canadian. Just kidding, but really… it is SUCH a Canadian thing. Mountain Equipment Coop is almost like a sort of religion of it’s own: an active, get off the couch and dust off your sneakers religion.

MEC makes it fairly clear they don’t have sales. What they do have is a clearance section both in-store and (as I discovered recently) on-line that is like an on going sale. You can expect discounts to range but I found the average to be around 30% off.

You will need to have a membership to buy from MEC as it is a coop – those are like, $5 for your lifetime.

To give you an example of some of their clearance discounts:

So for those of you fond of MEC items, check out the online clearance section. I have always found it easier to browse than the in-store clearance.

You can do in store pick up!
