Kobo Trivia Contest: Get a 10% to 75% Coupon!

Any fans here of Kobo eBooks? Right now, Kobo.com is having a Prime Time trivia contest, and if you enter this, they will reward you with a free coupon code for a discount of between 10% and 75% off your next book!

There are 10 trivia questions over 10 days, and if you complete each one correctly you will instantly receive a free coupon (or a Kobo Mini)! Everyone who tries will also be put into a draw to win their grand prize pack of a Kobo Arc & Aura HD and $1,000… nice. You can play daily, so maybe check in often.

The coupon code terms say that it’s for “select ebooks” so I am not 100% sure which these are. But if there’s a certain book you’re hankering for, give it a try.

Today’s question: Michael C. Hall stars as the conflicted hero in this Showtime hit. Answer – Dexter! I got a 20% coupon code for answering this.

I have used the Kobo app on my iPad when I got good deals on a few books that I wanted to read, such as The Hunger Games. Let us know in the comments below if you give this a try and happen to get a substantial discount code. Here’s hoping for the 75%!

The books on this list look interesting and informative, with many Canadian titles. I actually prefer reading Canadian books, as I feel I can relate to the characters and the setting better.

If you are heading off to university, this might be a must-read, but do it before you have to start your required readings. Campus Confidential- 100 Startling Things You Didn’t Know About Canadian Universities, was $16.95, then $10.59, now $7.41.

The Door is Open – Memoir of a Soup Kitchen Volunteer is the eye-opening memoir of a volunteer in Vancouver’s poverty-stricken and drug-addled east side. Was $12.99, then $9.39, now $6.57.

Come From Away – a historical account of nurses who immigrated to Newfoundland and Labrador. Was $18.95, then $13.64, now $9.55.

Readership in the young adult market is not doing so hot. If you have a young adult range kid (12 to 18), then you probably know this. It seems especially pronounced in boys. They just don’t want to read. They’d rather play video games or run around outside, and that is fine. However, books are also important, so you need to find a way to get your kids reading. One way is with movie tie-ins.

If your kids watched and loved Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, get them to read the book. Maybe get them to read the book before they go see the Percy Jackson Movie, the Sea of Monsters. If your kids really resist reading, make the Sea of Monsters movie a reward for finishing the book.

The book is only $0.69 with this coupon. That’s $6 off Kobo’s regular $6.69 price.

Kobobooks Canada: Up to 70% Off Select eBooks

Kobobooks Canada: Up to 70% Off Select eBooks

Here is a Kobo Books deal that doesn’t require a coupon code: get up to 70% off select ebooks this weekend during the Best of Summer Sale. Books start at just $4.99.

There are plenty of good deals in this sale – it just depends upon your taste in books. Here are some of the higher value book discounts I found:

I am pretty sure these deals can’t be combined with any other deals like coupon codes or such. However, they are pretty good deals in their own right and you can get a couple books for under $10 – always a nice deal.

Kobobooks Canada Coupon Code: 50% Off Select Books

Kobobooks Canada Coupon Code: 50% Off Select Books

We recently posted a 30% off Kobobooks coupon code that ended early (sorry readers!) but we also just found this one for 50% off select titles that is currently valid.

Click here to shop select reads @ Kobobooks Canada now

  • Coupon Code: yournext2613
  • Discount: 50% off
  • Expiry: 1st August 2013

The coupon only works for the books in the link above. I tried it out on The Mystery of Mercy Close which was $11.38, and it came down to $5.69. I really could use a good chick book – I haven’t read one in ages. Unlike my good co-worker, Shawn, I actually love physical books. I love the feel of turning a page, I love the new book and the old book smell, I love the beautiful covers, and I just love having a beautiful collection on display. The only thing I hate is the amount of space they take up.

This coupon expires fairly soon, so make sure to use it before it does. It is a nice high value one, so it should certainly save your bank account a few dollars on your new favourite reads.

As always, we post the information we receive from companies – but they can end promotions early and we are sorry if they do!

I love eBooks. Paper books are dumb. That’s right, I said it. Paper books, hard copy books, are dumb. Argue with me in the comments below. I’m looking for a fight. *spits* But in the mean time, check out these awesome eBooks from Kobo for 30% off. Don’t have a Kobo? That’s fine, just read them on your computer or your tablet or smartphone. There are fifty books available in this sale and to be honest, I’m not interested in any of them. That’s just me, though. I’m sure you can find something you’d dig here, so check them out.

I don’t know if these are the actual top 50 bestsellers on the Kobo site, or if they are just 50 selected from the bestsellers list, but either way there seems to be a huge slant towards the erotic romance type books. We can probably thank Fifty Shades for that. We can also thank a book called The Diamond Club. The Diamond Club (available on Amazon and iTunes) is one of the best scams I’ve seen in a while. Basically, Justin Robert Young and Brian Brushwood, hosts of The NSFW Show, noted that the top 10 books in iTunes were either from the Fifty Shades trilogy, or knock-offs of the Fifty Shades books. So, they decided that they would ask the Chatrealm, the NSFW Show’s loyal fanbase of whom I am a member, to write and submit chapters of an erotic romance novel which they called The Diamond Club.

The book was purposely terrible and, in the words of Justin, is full of bangin’. They did this in the spirit of the penultimate great book hoax, Naked Came the Stranger. That book was written by 24 journalists and meant to be the dirtiest book they could think of. It was a social commentary on society, and how its morals have deteriorated. The Diamond Club‘s goals weren’t so lofty as all of that. Although the inability of other well known authors to break in to the top ten due to the Fifty Shades phenomenon was a factor, they mainly just wanted to see if they could punk the system. And you know what? They made it to #4 in the iTunes list. The only books that beat them out? The Fifty Shades trilogy.

Kobo Canada: $50 – $100 Off The Kobo Arc

Posted by on July 19, 2013 at 9:30 PM

Kobo Canada: $50 $100 Off The Kobo Arc

Get $50 – $100 off the Kobo Arc Reader from Kobo Canada. The discount depends upon its size.

We have seen $50 off Kobo Arc readers before, but not up to $100 off. If you order the 64GB you are getting $100 off your reader. If you order the 32GB you are getting $75 off your reader. If you are ordering the 16GB (which I couldn’t get to work… maybe it is sold out?) you are getting $50 off your reader.

The Arc is powered by a customized Android 4.0 operating system, so not only can you use your Kobo Arc for reading magazine, newspapers, books, and more, but you also have access to over 700,000 apps on Google Play. So many of those apps are free, too!

  • The 16GB 7″ Kobo Arc was $199.99 | now $149.99.
  • The 32GB 7″ Kobo Arc was $249.99 | now $174.99.
  • The 64GB 7″ Kobo Arc was $299.99 | now $199.99.

Shipping is free. All sizes are available in white or black. As noted above, I couldn’t seem to select the 16GB size (as it was missing from the drop-down menu). That might just be a glitch on my end or it could be sold out.

Kobobooks Canada Coupons: Generic 20% Off Codes

Posted by on July 17, 2013 at 2:30 PM

Kobobooks Canada Coupons: Generic 20% Off Codes

Kobobooks has two generic coupon codes right now that are not just for a selection of books. They are valid for any books, excluding a few publishers. Get 20% off your first read if you are new to Kobo, or get 20% off using the other coupon code.

Click here to find a fresh summer read @ Kobobooks Canada now

  • Coupon Code: WELCOME20
  • Discount: 20% off your first book
  • Expiry: Unknown
  • Coupon Code: anniversary20
  • Discount: 20% off a book
  • Expiry: Unknown

Each coupon can only be used once per account, but you can use both if you have not used these before. They do exclude the following publishers:

Zondervan, Simon & Schuster, HarperCollins, Hachette Book Group, Penguin, Wiley, and Macmillan.

What I appreciate about these coupons is that they aren’t just for a list of 100 to 200 books. You can find any book you want (noting the publisher exclusions) and use the coupon on that book. I find that so much better than those lists. Though I always find new and interesting books on those lists, I already have my own list of books that I am going to read – so narrow coupons from Kobo haven’t helped shorten that list. Generic coupons like these make me happy though.

On my to-read list is The Hobbit, not because I haven’t read it before, but because I want to refresh my memory for the movies. There are several versions of The Hobbit on Kobo and most are by HarperCollins, an excluded publisher. But if you aren’t looking for bells and whistles like fancy pictures and movie tie-ins… you can pick up The Hobbit for $4.96 + tax. After coupon it comes down to $3.97 + tax.

Kobobooks Canada Coupon: Canada Day Weekend Deals

Kobobooks Canada Coupon: Canada Day Weekend Deals

Kobobooks Canada has up to 70% off great Canadian books this weekend with no coupon code needed. They also have a selection of Canadian bestsellers that you can get an extra 30% off when you use the following coupon.

Click here to view the weekend deals @ Kobobooks Canada

Only the books on that link are titles from which you can get an extra 30% off (not the 70% off section).

The regular section is discounted up to 70% off this weekend with some really great Canadian books in it. My favourite has to be The Cat’s Table by Michael Ondaatje. It is on sale for $4.99 this weekend and is certainly worth a read. I read it for my Canadian Literature course last semester and wrote a research paper on the book as well talking about the east vs. west motif that runs throughout the book. Later in the semester I had the honour of meeting Ondaatje and he signed my book! Kobobooks Canada Coupon: Canada Day Weekend Deals I also love his poem “The Cinnamon Peeler” and have also read his book Coming Through Slaughter which I have mixed feelings on.

This is a great sale and excellent encouragement for Canadians to read, enjoy, and celebrate some of our own talent. Get more Kobo deals on our Kobo Coupon Code page. Bones!

Kobo Canada Coupon Codes: Save $20 On Kobo Glo Or Kobo Arc

Posted by on June 15, 2013 at 10:00 PM

Kobo Canada Coupon Codes: Save $20 On Kobo Glo Or Kobo Arc

Looking for an eReader to read in the dark? How about one that is also an Android tablet? How about one that is $20 cheaper!? Then the Kobo Glo and Kobo Arc are the way to go!

Click here to get your Kobo Arc or Kobo Glo @ Kobo.com

  • Coupon Code: RFN47
  • Discount: Save $20 off Kobo Arc
  • Expiry: 30th June 2013
  • Coupon Code: EJB29
  • Discount: Save $20 off Kobo Glo
  • Expiry: 30th June 2013

Kobo is interesting in the eReader space because they are the only ones that have kept up with the big dog, Amazon’s Kindle. Amazon releases the Fire, an Android tablet, Kobo releases their Android tablet, the Arc. Kindle Paperwhite, a backlight eReader for reading in the dark, came out, and Kobo releases their Kobo Glo. It’s very interesting to watch.

Kobo, through their partnership with Chapters bookstores, has almost 50% of the market share of Canadian eReaders and there is a reason for that: they are good eReaders. I think some people are under the impression that Kobo sells solely on the fact that they are partnered with Chapters which is just wrong. They sell because they are good. Now don’t get me wrong, if they were good eReaders and not partnered with Chapters, they wouldn’t be this popular. On the other hand if they sucked and were partnered with Chapters, they wouldn’t sell. So all that to say, it’s a great product and for $20 off (especially on the Glo) you’re getting a great deal! Shipping is FREE!

Dragonsteel Entertainment: Brandon Sanderson’s The Emperor’s Soul eBook For Only $3 (Save $2)

Posted by on May 15, 2013 at 1:00 PM

Dragonsteel Entertainment: Brandon Sandersons The Emperors Soul eBook For Only $3 (Save $2)

Brandon Sanderson writes some of the best books out there today and you can get one of them for super cheap!

If you want to buy it, it’s available at this sale price at most eBook stores. Here are links to the Amazon Kindle (U.S. and Canadian) and Kobo stores.

First off, the book is normally $4.99 but this month it’s only $2.96. You save $2. This sale is directly from the books publisher, Dragonsteel Entertainment, so the price is actually the same (or similar) on any eBook store that carries it. I guess the two big ones in Canada would be Kobo and Amazon which both carry the book for about $3.

I have not read this book but I’ve read over a half dozen of Sanderson’s other books and they are great. If you’re into Epic Fantasy or, at this price, even if you aren’t, you have got to read his stuff. This particular book is a novella so it’s short and simple to get in to. MY first published book is a novella and I really dig the format. A lot of people, I think, disdain novellas because they think a shorter book is ripping you off. Sometimes the story just isn’t supposed to be that long and it just has to be a shorter format. My book is short because I used it as an intro to a bigger series. Just because a novella is short doesn’t mean that you’re getting a lesser story, the author is probably giving you exactly what you need!

So if you need a quick, awesome story, maybe for a plane ride or a car trip, this is a good choice!
