Kobo Books: Refer a Friend & Get a 90% Off Coupon

Kobo Books: Refer a Friend & Get a 90% Off Coupon

When you love something, you probably shout it from the rooftops. Kobo Books wants to make sure you tell all of your friends how much you love them, giving you a really great incentive. If you refer a friend, they’ll get a 90% discount on their first purchase and you will too when they make that first purchase.

I have yet to delve into the digital book world, but more and more I find reasons why I should. My kids actually have Kobo tablets and they read e-books on them. I guess they are ahead of the times on me. They could actually send me an invite and I could get my coupon from them!

Basically all you need to do is send your friend an invite to sign up with a Kobo account. They’ll get an email with a 90% off their first purchase promo code. When they choose their book and buy it with the code, you’ll get rewarded with your own code for 90% off your next purchase.

It looks like there is a select group of books to choose from for this promo, but I do notice that Kobo’s offerings on their select books are usually pretty great. But, you might not get the latest and greatest at 90% off. I personally don’t find that a problem as I love reading older books that I may have missed when they first came out. Also, if I read an author who had a smash hit book that I loved, I’ll go back and see what else they wrote that may not have generated as much interest, but that might have the same type of gripping tale.

If you are antsy waiting for your 90% off coupon, you could use the current 30% off coupon that Kobo has out this weekend.

Kobo Beach Reads Contest: Get Up To 75% Discount Coupons

Kobo Beach Reads Contest: Get Up To 75% Discount Coupons

Over at Kobo.com, they’re holding a Beach Reads trivia contest, in which they’re giving away daily coupon codes of between 10% and 75%, plus you can also enter to win some larger prizes. While we don’t normally do an individual blog post here on Bargainmoose for an individual contest (other than our own), this is technically a deal because of the free Kobo coupon codes! If you’re an avid Kobo reader, then these are incredibly useful when buying your eBooks.

The contest is currently on day two out of ten days. If you’re playing for the first time, you will have to register a new account. I mistakenly thought that my Kobo account would work for signing in, but it does not.

The first question I got was:

Mightier Than the Sword protagonist Harry Clifton launches a campaign for the release of fellow author Anatoly Babakov, who’s imprisoned where?

I had no idea of the answer, so I just popped that in to google. The answer was Siberia. It than said,

You’ve received a 20% off coupon! Coupon code: ZEKJZK

I don’t know if the above coupon code is one-time use or multiple uses, so you’re welcome to give it a try if you need to. Please let us know in the comments below if you get a different code – then we will know if they’re generic or not. If you score a generic coupon code for 75%, then we’re all ears! Please let us know.

If you complete all 10 trivia questions, you’ll be in with the chance of winning the grand prize pack – a $1000 prepaid VISA credit card and two Kobo Aura H2O eReaders.

You can actually go back and complete the previous day’s questions too. Day 1 was:

In Danielle Steel’s Prodigal Son twins Peter and Michael McDowell grow up to find success in which fields, respectively?

Answer = Investment banking and medicine. Then it said:

You’ve received a 25% off coupon! Coupon code: HJG9CJ

Remember, Kobo coupon codes aren’t applicable to all titles on their site, there are some exclusions.

The above link shows you all the eBooks on Kobo which will accept your discount codes.

(Expires: 29th March 2015, excludes Quebec)

Kobo Books March Break Sale: Kids and YA eBooks From Only $1.99 & Extra 20% off

Posted by on March 6, 2015 at 3:00 PM

Kobo Books March Break Sale: Kids and YA eBooks From Only $1.99 & Extra 20% off

With March Break coming up, parents might be frantically wondering how they will keep their kids busy for the entire week. While weekends always seem so whirlwind, I find March Break sort of drags on with lots of “I’m bored” and “What are we going to do”. I’m trying to plan ahead and find a way to keep my kids occupied and happy. My kids actually love to read, which is great, and they have Kobo tablets, so this sale from Kobo with books as low as $1.99 will allow me to fill up their tablets with books to read over the break (and beyond).

On top of this sale, you can also use the coupon code SAVE20BDAY to get another 20% off your books.

There are a number of books available during this sale. One book that I won’t be getting because my son has already read it and loved is Spirit Animals book 1: Wild Born. I took a chance and bought this book in hardcover a few months ago and immediately he was addicted to this series. If you have an adventure loving kid, this is one book you’ll want to get. There isn’t a regular price for this book, but I see other Spirit Animals books in the series selling for $11.69. This one is only $2.70 after coupon. The reviews are fantastic for this book as well.

Another really awesome series that my oldest son is into is 39 Clues. There are tons of books in this series, but you’ll want to start with Book 1: The Maze of Bones. There are actually a few different sets in the 39 Clues series, but this is the one that began it all. This one is also only $2.70, with subsequent books being $11.69.

For the younger kids, you’ll want to check out Clifford’s Happy Easter. It is the #1 book for kids and teens with dogs in it. That’s because all of us Canadian kids love Clifford! This one is only $0.99. It doesn’t look like the coupon works on this one.

I won’t go through every single book available with you, as everyone has their own tastes. I just wanted to point out my kid’s favourites as I love recommendations myself. Happy reading!

Canadian Freebie: eBooks @ Kobo (Discover a New Series)

Posted by on February 14, 2015 at 3:00 PM

Canadian Freebie: eBooks @ Kobo (Discover a New Series)

We last mentioned this deal back in May last year which was quite a long time ago. We’ve got a lot of new Moosers since then and I’d like to write about the offer again, to let you all know about what you can get. On this special page at Kobo.com, they’re offering a range of eBooks totally free – they won’t cost you a penny. These books are the first in their series from various authors.

Here’s what Kobo say about the offer:

On this page you’ll find short stories, novels, and first titles in a series, and all of them are completely free! So, try out a new book today – risk free. You just might end up finding a hidden gem or a new favourite author.

We’re all savvy shoppers here on Bargainmoose, and I think we can deduce why Kobo would offer these books for free. They want us to read the first book and enjoy it… then go on to purchase the sequels too. Well, it’s a good marketing tactic, just keep it in mind when you are reading.

There are many titles to choose from in this free selection. I did a quick manual tally and there seem to be 178 books there. Here are some highlights from the various categories:

Sci-Fi & Fantasy

Romance

Mysteries & Thrillers

As you can see, there is quite a range of topics to choose from; everything from sci-fi to romance. I’ve only highlighted nine out of the possible 178 titles.

I love Kobo! I’ve bought quite a few books from them which I read on my iPad Air. As for the Kobo app itself, I also find that it’s very useful. You don’t have to just read books bought from Kobo, you can also read PDFs and word files in the Kobo app. I’ve got some basic eBooks in PDF format, and I am able to open and read them in the Kobo app, making it a pleasant reading experience.

In fact, I’m going to add some of these free titles to my account right now, so that they’re there if I am stuck somewhere with nothing to read. I’m downloading the Extensis Vitae book as it’s the editor’s pick in the sci-fi section!

Bestselling eBooks from $1.99 @ Kobo.com This Weekend (EXPIRED)

Posted by on January 31, 2015 at 6:00 PM

Bestselling eBooks from $1.99 @ Kobo.com This Weekend (EXPIRED)

I got an email from Kobo about a special deal they’ve got running in select bestsellers online @ Kobo.com this weekend. They’re advertising some best-selling novels for less than $5… but prices actually seem to start from as low as $1.99, which is a really great deal.

As for the eight images I show in the picture above, here’s a quick breakdown of those titles:

Out of all the above titles, the one that caught my eye the most was Born in Blood… I am sure you can tell why, from the image above! But I haven’t actually read any of the above… since having kids, I don’t have a lot of time for books these days! Have you read any of the above? Got any recommendations?

If you don’t yet have Kobo and you’re not sure what systems and devices you can read these books on, here’s a quick list for your interest:

  • Desktop |eReaders| Tablets
  • iOS |Android |Blackberry |Windows

I have the Kobo app on my iPad and I have quite a few books on there. Sometimes when I am travelling, I will buy a cheap book in advance, to have it in the airport for emergency reading… without having to worry about carrying a heavy book with me. And Kobo often do special deals and coupon codes on books, through which I’ve found good offers on some popular titles and they’re stored in my app. For example, I have the Hunger Games and Fifty Shades trilogy both on the Kobo app on my iPad. They’re handy books to re-read if I am stuck.

Best Buy Canada: $200 Off Kobo Arc 10HD 10.1″ 16GB – Now $200 (HOT!)

Posted by on November 15, 2014 at 9:15 AM

Best Buy Canada: $200 Off Kobo Arc 10HD 10.1 16GB Now $200 (HOT!)

A little earlier this morning, Ivan blogged about the PlayStation TV bundle, which is now on sale for $100 at Best Buy and while that’s a fantastic deal, I couldn’t resist telling you Moosers about another little deal I unearthed at both Best Buy. The Kobo Arc 10″ 16GB eReader is now $200 off and can be had for just $200 (reg. $400).

This deal is set to expire in a couple of days but given that this is a hot offer, there are high chances that it will go out of stock before then, especially since at the time of writing this post, there were only 24 tablets remaining at Best Buy and already sold out at Future Shop! It’s even currently sold out at Chapters Indigo, which just shows how popular this tablet is.

The Kobo Arc 16GB features a stunning 10.1″ screen with a 2560 x 1600 resolution, a sleek design, 2GB of RAM and a 1.8GHz quad-core processor. For its screen size and specs, this Kobo tablet is absolutely and the current price even more so. In fact, here’s a review I found:

For the price it’s hard to complain: what you’re getting in terms of processing power and the other basics is competitive with tablets costing twice as much. And it’s Android so you know you will be supported by a gazillion apps if you want them. Personally I bought this device primarily to read comics and graphic novels. It is pretty awesome for that purpose, able to display full pages at pretty much full size, with lots of contrast and saturated colours.

It also has wi-fi capabilities, which means that you can easily download and read books without the hassle of having to connect to a computer. Personally, I’ve had a little Sony eReader for ages now and while it’s great, I’m sure that it’s not nearly as amazing at Kobo’s Arc tablet. The resolution alone is worth paying the full price tag. With Christmas right around the corner, this would make a great gift either for yourself or anyone on your Christmas list!

As usual, shipping is also free as Best Buy ships all orders over $25 for free.

Kobo Books Canada: 35% Off Select Reads From Any Genre

Kobo Books Canada: 35% Off Select Reads From Any Genre

Show of hands, when was the last time any of you read a book and which one was it? I love to read but I have to admit that I have just been too busy lately to read anything at all… story of each of your Moosers’ lives as well, I bet? Making time to read is just as important as showering, in my book, and what better way than with a discount at Kobo? Until Monday, you can get a 35% discount on plenty of titles from every genre.

Click here to get eBooks @ Kobo.com now

  • Coupon Code: UNLIMITED35
  • Discount: 35% off select titles
  • Expiry: 3rd November 2014

Not sure what to choose? I totally judge books by their covers and there’s nothing wrong with that but you could also try reading the description of any book. Just scroll up and down a page and click on anything at all.

Doing just that, I randomly stumbled upon Departed: A Leopold Blake Thriller. Although it has nothing to do with The Departed blockbuster film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon and Jack Nickolson, it has, however, amassed 3.6/5 stars on Goodreads with reviews like this one:

I liked the book a lot. This is the second book of a series, I did not read the first yet but I probably will. I like the main character Leopold the detective. He has some Sherlock Holmes qualities, deducing clues that are not that obvious. I also like his supporting characters. Overall a good book

It may be a sequel but as you can see from the above review, it also looks like one of those forgiving books that allows you to jump right into the next book’s story line. It comes down to $2.59 from $3.99.

I was surprised to see p.m. pevato’s Firefly amongst the list of books available for the discount because it’s actually a book that I have had on my list to read for some time now. Usually priced at $4.99, it can now be yours for $3.24. With a total of 4.12/5 stars on Goodreads, here’s a review:

I found Firefly on Kobo’s Teen Page. Kobo choose Firefly as a 2014 Teen Hidden Gem. I read the summary and decided to buy the ebook and I’m glad that I did. Even though Tessa is a teenage witch, she is a relateable character and so are her friends. Her friends are part of the Snow Valley Coven and they all have paranormal powers.

Sounds like a book right on point with the current trend of vampires and werewolves, doesn’t it?

Kobobooks Coupon Code: 25 to 50% Off Select Books

We sometimes see 30% coupon codes out of Kobo, but rarely do we see anything more. Today we have a 50% off coupon code for you to relish and a few smaller ones for other books in case you need more variety.

Click here to shop coupon qualifying books @ Kobo now

  • Expiry: 20th October 2014

Each coupon listed above has a link taking you directly to the books that qualify for that coupon code. I have tested these coupon codes and the do work so if you are having problems applying them, make sure you are in the right books section. You can only apply each coupon once per account. That means I can get one book for 25% off, one book for 35% off, and one book for 50% off this weekend.

Of course, I went straight for the 50% off section. There are plenty of romance novels in this section if you love that kind of thing. I would read them but my husband would never get any peace! I did find two cool books in this section that raised my interest.

An Etiquette Guide to the End Times Was $2.99 | After coupon $1.49

Granted this is a novella, but it still classifies as a book and sounds like it would be a fun read.

There aren’t any zombies (yet), but the world is still at the brink of destruction: It’s 2028 and global warming has led to rising oceans, crazy weather, and resource scarcity. On top of that, someone just turned the Internet off. Seeing as how it’s humanity’s last chance to turn things around manners are, understandably, a bit frayed.

I love the part about the internet being turned off, now that would be a nightmare! There are also chickens in the book… and I have a friend who loves chickens so I would think fondly of her while I read it.

Girl Reinvented Was $6.99 | After coupon $3.49

Probably a million girls have been in the place of the lead character in this book. Embarrassing situation and you wake up to find you do not have much in life. Family is so-so, few friends, no dreams, no romance. What is a girl to do? This one decides to reinvent herself and test the boundaries. I get where this character has been and totally want to read this book.

Thanksgiving is this Monday. After a good meal of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and stuffing; what are you going to do with your day off from work? You can either go for a nap or curl up with a good book. I vote both, personally.

I am not into eBooks much these days, but I ran across An Illustrated Book of Bad Arguments that is totally making me smile. Have you ever heard someone correct your argument by pointing out the logical fallacy? Then you might have been talking to me (or throwing things at me after I corrected you). This book illustrates some of the common errors people make in their arguments including the straw man fallacy, the slippery slope argument, [and] the ad hominem attack. I love this stuff; I did an entire course on logic and fallacies in university. Originally $12.50, the book is currently $8.99. After coupon code, I might just buy it for $6.29.

I laughed when I saw the title of this mystery book: Death of a Coupon Clipper. I thought it was so appropriate for our readers since we are all fairly thrifty with our money. I am sure we have many coupon clipper followers! Guess what the murder weapon is… scissors! This is a great read for those who like to save a few dollars and anyone who loves an eccentric mystery. Score it for only $3.33 after coupon (was $4.75).

I know that most of you are not even thinking about Christmas yet, but I did stumble across this cute Christmas book eligible for the coupon. Darling Saves Christmas is part of a continuing series of a curly tailed reindeer named Darling. The book looks very adorable and it would be great for young readers. Currently the book is $6.25, but it comes down to $4.38 after coupon code.

There are many other eBooks to choose from for children and adults. You never know what you might find when you are looking through the coupon section at Kobo. With unlimited uses, pick up a book for yourself and for your kids or a loved one.

Kobo Books Promo Code: 30% Off Select Titles

Kobo Books Promo Code: 30% Off Select Titles

Love to read? Then hurry on over to Kobo Books because you can save 30% off a number of select eBooks with the coupon code below, but only until Monday.

  • Coupon Code: READ30
  • Discount: 30% off select titles
  • Expires: Unknown

I love the feel and smell of actual books as much as the next book lover but I also much prefer reading books on my Sony eReader when I’m on the go. I have tons of books in my library and not having to lug around a million books around just makes it so much easier.

You can choose loads of great titles in categories like “romance”, “thrillers”, “sci-fi & fantasy” and “series”. As I have been a “sci-fi & fantasy” gal for some time now, I headed over there first and Daniel Arenson’s Requiem’s Song definitely intrigued me as it’s a story about dragons that has actually been rated #8 in sci-fi & fantasy, fantasy and epic fantasy. It can be yours for just $2.39 (reg. $2.99).

As much as I try not to, I have to admit that I most definetly tend to judge books by their covers as well. One of my all-time favourite passtimes is to walk around a bookstore and just take pictures of all the titles that catch my eye to then pick and choose which ones to order online. All this to say that virtually all of the titles in the “series” section caught my attention with their enticing covers and heck you never know, one of those may just be the next “Divergent” or “Hunger Games” as it would seem that Hollywood has been on a huge kick of converting book series into big-time movies. Given that we’ve seen plenty of vampire titles and now stories about post-apocalyptic world turn into major blockbusters, the next one may just be about shifters and dragons and may just be The Dragon Legion Collection by Deborah Cooke. You can get it for just $5.59 (reg. $6.99) and I even found over 50 ratings on Goodreads with a total of 3.94 stars out of 5. Here’s what someone had to say about it:

Wow this book was awesome! Full of dragon suspense mystery intrigue romance action packed drama twists and turns kept me on the edge throughout. I couldn’t put it down. Yes another all nighter reading but definitely worth it. I Highly recommend.

Which titles have most intrigued you? Share with me in the commnts section!

Kobo Canada Promo Code: 30% Off Romance Plus Up To 75% Off Back To School Reads

Looking for some steamy stories to read to end your summer? Look no further than this promo code from Kobo Books, with 30% off romance. Also, while you’re there, check out their up to 75% off back to school sale.

Click here to shop @ Kobo.com now

  • Coupon Code: ROMANCE30
  • Discount: 30% off
  • Expiry: 18th August 2014

I’ve never really been a huge romantic story fan. In fact, I’m not much into romance at all. But, I do like a steamy read with lots of sex and passion. Looking through the list at Kobo, I see a lot of that passion and sexuality framed on the covers of the titles available.

If you are into supernatural romance then Repossessed might just be the read you are after. Witches and warlocks and pixies, oh my! You can’t beat the regular price of $2.99, except when you add the 30% off coupon and get it for only $2.09.

If Scottish men are your thing (and whose thing aren’t they?) then you’ll love The Highland Brides, which comes as a boxset. It is regularly $10.27, but with coupon, get it for only $7.19.

Being a mom of three, I really don’t get a lot of time to read, unless my kids are also reading. The Back to School sale will get them some great books at quite the discount, and I can just pop them right on their Kobo tablets. We are planning a road trip next week and they’ll need something to do and reading on the tablet is a perfect way to give them something to do in the car, without it being video games.

Star Wars Jedi Academy is right up my boy’s alley. Now only $8 and available across a number of devices. My son is also addicted to The 39 Clues, so The Maze of Bones would be a good one to get him (I’ll just have to check if he’s read it!). It also only $8.

Check for all of our Kobo coupons in the forum, before getting any new books!

Kobo Coupon Code: 30% Off Select eBooks

Kobo Coupon Code: 30% Off Select eBooks

Kobo has released a 30% off coupon code on select eBooks this weekend. Dig into something new this summer and experience another world.

Click here to shop select books @ Kobo Canada now

  • Coupon Code: VACATION30
  • Discount: 30% off
  • Expiry: 21st July 2014

The books included in this offer are through the above link. Remember to click the “browse more…” links besides each category name so you can see all the books in the specific category that qualify for this coupon code. It is not just the few books they show you as an example. If you are just browsing the website, make sure “Items Eligible For Promo Codes” is checked off in whichever section you are in as that option narrows your book choices down to eBooks this coupon will work on.

The categories in the sale include:

  • Fiction
  • Mystery
  • Kids’ and Teen Titles
  • Non-fiction

Out of those four categories, my favourite is mystery. I have been a mystery reader since I was young and first read the complete Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

I generally judge my mystery books by their names. This book Darwins Nightmare by Mike Knowles sounds like a pretty funky mystery about a man who does very bad stuff for a living and then makes one mistake (or good deed, your choice) and the repercussions of that event. The book currently costs $9.34 but after coupon, it comes down to $6.54.

Walking into the Ocean by David Whellams is a British mystery that sounds right up my alley. After all, most my favourite mysteries have been British like Sherlock and Miss Marple. This book is to be the first in a set of three books about a veteran Scotland Yard Chief Inspector investigating serial killings in the pastoral lands of good ol’ England. The book retails for $7.18, but after coupon code, it comes down to $5.03.

There are many books to choose from, and it is always fun finding a new favourite author or a series you just cannot put down. Sure, there are the sleepless nights where you are up to 3am hovered over your eReader, but it is all worth it. This summer I joined Goodreads and I am keeping track of all the books I have read from now on. It is a nice way to look back and see what I have read and what I thought of it.

Kobo Books Canada: $0.99 Magazine Issues

Kobo has a hot (sizzling even) deal on right now, where you can get one issue of a number of magazines for only $0.99. I love this deal because sometimes you just want some summer reading on the easy, and one issue is all you need. Paying less than $1 for an issue of a magazine is very sweet.

There are a number of magazines available for this promotion, and I’d like to pick up a few of them. I’m an avid magazine reader, although I still go the print way, but really I don’t know why. I can save so much money getting it on my tablet, plus save the environmental costs of printing it. Plus, I don’t have that extra clutter of the magazine lying around. I can also take my tablet with me and choose what I want to read, rather than a bulky magazine that I might forget (and always do). I don’t know how many times I’ve been at the park with my kids while they play wishing I had something to read instead of staring into nothingness.

Some of the ones I’d like to sink my teeth into include:

  • Cosmopolitan – you can’t beat this magazine for all the latest in sex and beauty
  • Oprah – pretty much my favourite mag
  • Real Simple – I love the recipes and organization tips
  • Self – great fitness and health and well-being articles
  • Esquire – while I wouldn’t need a subscription for this one for myself, I’d buy this issue just to hear Mark Wahlberg’s take on fatherhood

Bargainmoosers, what is your favourite magazine? Give me some ideas on what issues I need to get for $0.99, just in case the ones I’ve chosen aren’t enough!
