This novel will sweep you up with it intensity – it’s full of heart-pounding moments, in the love story of Katie and Lucas as well the terror from Katie’s past that continues to pursue her. Rooney sensitively portrays a young woman’s transition from being psychologically damaged to becoming open to the world and her own possibilities, especially in being loved. Read this!

Other reviewers said that this book was their absolute favourite book that they had purchased on Kobo. That is high praise!

Barbara Freethy’s Summer Secrets is one of the top Bestsellers from this sale. The book also ranks pretty high in all: #4 in the entire Romance category. $10 Kobo Credit with Visa Checkout

Posted by on June 7, 2015 at 7:55 PM

$10 Kobo Credit with Visa Checkout

Kobo Books has teamed up with Visa Checkout to offer you $10 Kobo Credit.

The offer is fairly simple: place an (1) order for an eBook or magazine. Use Visa Checkout as your payment method. The $10 will appear in your account as an account credit. it will be automatically applied within 48-hours of your purchase. There is a limit of one credit per Kobo user and, as per usual, Kobo reserves the right to cancel the promotion at any time.

If you are still not familiar with Visa Checkout, then let me refresh your memory on how to use it.

  • Choose Visa Checkout as your checkout option
  • Sign up via the ‘create account’ button if you have not already
  • Complete your purchase

There appears to be no exclusions from this offer. I assume, based on the fine print, that any order is eligible including orders that use coupons or purchase sale books and magazines. We have had some great deals from Kobo lately, and you can combine all of them with this offer as well!

As Anna mentioned, there is a free $5 credit for new members to Kobo Books. On top of it, you can find plenty of:

I also recently blogged a great magazine deal where an entire year’s subscription will only cost you $5. There are some popular magazine titles in there, thus I recommend checking it out. In fact, one of these yearly magazine subscriptions could be your qualifying order for the $10 credit.

Books and magazines are really a personal taste. I have never managed to get behind digital books the same way I have received digital music, but that is because books are a tactile experience as well. However, I relish the thought of no bookshelves: just a little device, less than half the width of a small softcover, sitting on my bedside table. The minimalist in me loves this idea while nostalgia keeps me from parting from all my books.

Magazines are different. I far prefer the digital copies as it saves so much money and wasted paper. They also are more ‘consumable’ than books. Few people I know read magazines more than once or twice.

This is a fantastic offer from Kobo and I hope many of our lovely Moosers can take advantage of it.

Kobo Books Canada: Magazine Subscriptions from $5

Posted by on June 5, 2015 at 1:00 PM

Kobo Books Canada: Magazine Subscriptions from $5

Kobo Books Canada is selling magazine subscriptions from just $5! This is part of their summer blowout sale on now.

Some of these $5 subscriptions cost more for a single issue than for a yearly subscription with this deal! For example, this subscription of Cooking Light for an entire year costs just $5 whereas a single issue would cost you $6.33! You are saving 93% on the cover price with an annual subscription.

I really like fashion, but I never have time to keep track of all the great fashion magazines. In fact, I rarely read magazines unless I am at the doctor’s office or dentist. I see them as a bit of a waist of paper, so I am a huge fan of digital copies. sure, it is not the same as a physical copy but it saves many trees and tons of ink. People StyleWatch, InStyle, and Real Simple are all great magazines with articles on fashion (and managing your fashion). Better yet, a year’s subscription is just $5.

When i think of Sports Illustrated, I think of the swimsuit edition: who doesn’t? Therefore, it surprised me that Sports Illustrated has a kid’s magazine. If your child is into soccer, football, swimming, hockey, and more, then why not pick up a subscription to Sports Illustrated Kids for $5. The magazine includes sports trivia, games, contests, and profiles of the greatest names in sports today.

There are many other subscriptions to choose from in this sale. If I were picking up a subscription, then I would purchase either Real Simple (linked above) or Health. It is about this time that I lose all hope in my exercise and eating better regime. A magazine like this gives new ideas for getting healthy. At this point in the year, anything would be helpful!

Now, you could get one of these subscriptions for free. As Anna mentioned yesterday, new Kobo customers will receive a $5 credit when they sign up for an account. Your credit should appear within 30 minutes of signing up for your new account. Then, you can redeem that $5 discount for a yearly magazine subscription of your choice. As the free credit is $5 and you can pick up a yearly magazine subscription for only $5 – you could technically get your subscription for free.

Kobo Books Canada: FREE $5 Credit for New Customers, Books From $0.99, B2G1 Free Books & More!

Posted by on June 4, 2015 at 8:30 AM

Kobo Books Canada: FREE $5 Credit for New Customers, Books From $0.99, B2G1 Free Books & More!

Kobo Books, the online eReading store, has been mentioned many times here on Bargainmoose. However, I am sure there are some of you Moosers out there who have not yet shopped from them. If that applies to you, then now is a good time to sign up – because new customers can get a free $5 credit on their account!

You must sign up on the above landing page. Your free $5 credit should appear in your Kobo account within 30 minutes, at which time you will be ready to buy your first eBook from them!

You can read using the Kobo app on a plethora of devices; you don’t necessarily need a Kobo eReader device to make use of it. For example, I read Kobo books using my iPad – it’s very handy.

There are a ton of eBooks on Kobo which are only a couple of dollars each – meaning you can actually score some free eBooks using your free $5 credit. Check out the great reads from $0.99 section for those.

Kobo has a special offer happening just now which you should be able to combine with the free $5 credit. The offer is buy 2 get 1 free on select eBooks here.

Some other examples in the buy 2 get 1 free offer:

Lots to choose from in there! But just as a rough example, if you are a new customer taking advantage of the free $5 credit and buying the first three books in the above list, you’d be getting all three for $20.18 in total. Example cart:

Kobo Books Canada: FREE $5 Credit for New Customers, Books From $0.99, B2G1 Free Books & More!

(The above cart doesn’t yet have the $5 free credit deducted, but you will see this as you checkout).

One book that I have read in this B2G1F selection is Chai Tea Sunday by Heather A. Clark. This book received quite a bit of coverage in the national media, when it was released a couple of years ago. It’s quite a short book, but then again, I am a fast reader and I’d devour a book if it interests me. Have your box of Kleenex at the ready if you read Chai Tea Sunday – it got my eye ducts a-flowing!

Kobo Books: People Magazine Royal Issues Only 99¢ Each ($5.20 Value)

Posted by on May 3, 2015 at 3:30 PM

Kobo Books: People Magazine Royal Issues Only 99¢ Each ($5.20 Value)

Kobo Books has discounted digital back issues of Royal Family issues in People Magazine. Usually, a single issue of People Magazine retails for $5.20. However, you can now purchase a selection of six royal family issues for just 99¢ each.

This is a great deal for several reasons. First, you are saving 81% off the regular retail price of single issues. As you can see here, single issues retail for $5.20 each. Even if you bought the annual subscription, $114.69 for approximately 52 issues, you are still paying over $2 per issue. This deal for the royal issues is less than half the annual subscription rate per issue.

The second reason I love this deal can be summed up in two words: royal baby. As some of you may know, Princess Kate (the Duchess of Cambridge) just had another baby! On Saturday, she gave birth to a baby girl. There is plenty of speculation as to what this child will be named… I have seen suggestions for Alice, Charlotte, and my personal favourite: Victoria.

If you have not kept up on the Royal Family’s baby news… now is the time to be caught up. Most of the back issues you can purchase cover the birth of this new baby’s big brother: Prince George. There is also a more recent issue from this January about getting ready for baby number two!

Overall, you can purchase six issues for 99¢ each:

  • January 12, 2015
  • November 3, 2014
  • July 28, 2014
  • April 21, 2014
  • September 2, 2013
  • August 12, 2013

I am not terribly interested in the Royals, but one of my best friends was born in England (and lives in Canada). I also have a friend who still lives in England so it is nice to keep up on this stuff as a conversation piece. It avoids those awkward moments when someone starts talking about the new royal baby and you go “wait… she is pregnant again?” That is sort of what I did last week… whoops!

Drop a comment below to let us know what you think the new princess’s name will be. I am voting Victoria – I think it is a safe bet and a strong female name in the royal family.

Kobo.com eBooks: Get up to 75% Coupon Codes

Kobo.com eBooks: Get up to 75% Coupon Codes

Last month here, I wrote about a beach reads contest from Kobo Books within which you could win various coupon codes for a discount on their site, as well as prizes. They’ve just released a similar contest, in which you have daily chances at getting coupon codes of between 10% and 75% in value. If you are a regular Kobo shopper as I am, then it’s worth entering the contest to see what coupon codes you can acquire.

If you previously registered for the beach reads contest, then you can use the same login on the above. If not, you just need to register to play – you cannot use your normal Kobo account as this is a slightly different promo. It only takes a second to sign up.

When I tried it today, I was offered a 20% coupon code, as you can see in this screenshot.

Kobo.com eBooks: Get up to 75% Coupon Codes

The above coupon code is likely only a one-time use coupon code, it’s probably not generic – if you try and make use of it. Please have a go in the contest and tell us in the comments below which value of coupon that you get!

And maybe one of the Moosers will win an even bigger prize – a daily prize of the newest and Kobo Aura H2O eReader, or the grand prize pack which I think is $1000CAD as well as Kobo eReaders.

Remember, if you’re buying an eBook from Kobo.com, always check on our coupon page first – we try and update it with coupon codes to get you a discount when ordering.

Kobo Books: Refer a Friend & Get a 90% Off Coupon

Posted by on March 27, 2015 at 2:00 PM

Kobo Books: Refer a Friend & Get a 90% Off Coupon

When you love something, you probably shout it from the rooftops. Kobo Books wants to make sure you tell all of your friends how much you love them, giving you a really great incentive. If you refer a friend, they’ll get a 90% discount on their first purchase and you will too when they make that first purchase.

I have yet to delve into the digital book world, but more and more I find reasons why I should. My kids actually have Kobo tablets and they read e-books on them. I guess they are ahead of the times on me. They could actually send me an invite and I could get my coupon from them!

Basically all you need to do is send your friend an invite to sign up with a Kobo account. They’ll get an email with a 90% off their first purchase promo code. When they choose their book and buy it with the code, you’ll get rewarded with your own code for 90% off your next purchase.

It looks like there is a select group of books to choose from for this promo, but I do notice that Kobo’s offerings on their select books are usually pretty great. But, you might not get the latest and greatest at 90% off. I personally don’t find that a problem as I love reading older books that I may have missed when they first came out. Also, if I read an author who had a smash hit book that I loved, I’ll go back and see what else they wrote that may not have generated as much interest, but that might have the same type of gripping tale.

If you are antsy waiting for your 90% off coupon, you could use the current 30% off coupon that Kobo has out this weekend.

Kobo Beach Reads Contest: Get Up To 75% Discount Coupons

Kobo Beach Reads Contest: Get Up To 75% Discount Coupons

Over at Kobo.com, they’re holding a Beach Reads trivia contest, in which they’re giving away daily coupon codes of between 10% and 75%, plus you can also enter to win some larger prizes. While we don’t normally do an individual blog post here on Bargainmoose for an individual contest (other than our own), this is technically a deal because of the free Kobo coupon codes! If you’re an avid Kobo reader, then these are incredibly useful when buying your eBooks.

The contest is currently on day two out of ten days. If you’re playing for the first time, you will have to register a new account. I mistakenly thought that my Kobo account would work for signing in, but it does not.

The first question I got was:

Mightier Than the Sword protagonist Harry Clifton launches a campaign for the release of fellow author Anatoly Babakov, who’s imprisoned where?

I had no idea of the answer, so I just popped that in to google. The answer was Siberia. It than said,

You’ve received a 20% off coupon! Coupon code: ZEKJZK

I don’t know if the above coupon code is one-time use or multiple uses, so you’re welcome to give it a try if you need to. Please let us know in the comments below if you get a different code – then we will know if they’re generic or not. If you score a generic coupon code for 75%, then we’re all ears! Please let us know.

If you complete all 10 trivia questions, you’ll be in with the chance of winning the grand prize pack – a $1000 prepaid VISA credit card and two Kobo Aura H2O eReaders.

You can actually go back and complete the previous day’s questions too. Day 1 was:

In Danielle Steel’s Prodigal Son twins Peter and Michael McDowell grow up to find success in which fields, respectively?

Answer = Investment banking and medicine. Then it said:

You’ve received a 25% off coupon! Coupon code: HJG9CJ

Remember, Kobo coupon codes aren’t applicable to all titles on their site, there are some exclusions.

The above link shows you all the eBooks on Kobo which will accept your discount codes.

Kobo Books March Break Sale: Kids and YA eBooks From Only $1.99 & Extra 20% off

Posted by on March 6, 2015 at 3:00 PM

Kobo Books March Break Sale: Kids and YA eBooks From Only $1.99 & Extra 20% off

With March Break coming up, parents might be frantically wondering how they will keep their kids busy for the entire week. While weekends always seem so whirlwind, I find March Break sort of drags on with lots of “I’m bored” and “What are we going to do”. I’m trying to plan ahead and find a way to keep my kids occupied and happy. My kids actually love to read, which is great, and they have Kobo tablets, so this sale from Kobo with books as low as $1.99 will allow me to fill up their tablets with books to read over the break (and beyond).

On top of this sale, you can also use the coupon code SAVE20BDAY to get another 20% off your books.

There are a number of books available during this sale. One book that I won’t be getting because my son has already read it and loved is Spirit Animals book 1: Wild Born. I took a chance and bought this book in hardcover a few months ago and immediately he was addicted to this series. If you have an adventure loving kid, this is one book you’ll want to get. There isn’t a regular price for this book, but I see other Spirit Animals books in the series selling for $11.69. This one is only $2.70 after coupon. The reviews are fantastic for this book as well.

Another really awesome series that my oldest son is into is 39 Clues. There are tons of books in this series, but you’ll want to start with Book 1: The Maze of Bones. There are actually a few different sets in the 39 Clues series, but this is the one that began it all. This one is also only $2.70, with subsequent books being $11.69.

For the younger kids, you’ll want to check out Clifford’s Happy Easter. It is the #1 book for kids and teens with dogs in it. That’s because all of us Canadian kids love Clifford! This one is only $0.99. It doesn’t look like the coupon works on this one.

I won’t go through every single book available with you, as everyone has their own tastes. I just wanted to point out my kid’s favourites as I love recommendations myself. Happy reading!

Canadian Freebie: eBooks @ Kobo (Discover a New Series)

Posted by on February 14, 2015 at 3:00 PM

Canadian Freebie: eBooks @ Kobo (Discover a New Series)

We last mentioned this deal back in May last year which was quite a long time ago. We’ve got a lot of new Moosers since then and I’d like to write about the offer again, to let you all know about what you can get. On this special page at Kobo.com, they’re offering a range of eBooks totally free – they won’t cost you a penny. These books are the first in their series from various authors.

Here’s what Kobo say about the offer:

On this page you’ll find short stories, novels, and first titles in a series, and all of them are completely free! So, try out a new book today – risk free. You just might end up finding a hidden gem or a new favourite author.

We’re all savvy shoppers here on Bargainmoose, and I think we can deduce why Kobo would offer these books for free. They want us to read the first book and enjoy it… then go on to purchase the sequels too. Well, it’s a good marketing tactic, just keep it in mind when you are reading.

There are many titles to choose from in this free selection. I did a quick manual tally and there seem to be 178 books there. Here are some highlights from the various categories:

Sci-Fi & Fantasy

Romance

Mysteries & Thrillers

As you can see, there is quite a range of topics to choose from; everything from sci-fi to romance. I’ve only highlighted nine out of the possible 178 titles.

I love Kobo! I’ve bought quite a few books from them which I read on my iPad Air. As for the Kobo app itself, I also find that it’s very useful. You don’t have to just read books bought from Kobo, you can also read PDFs and word files in the Kobo app. I’ve got some basic eBooks in PDF format, and I am able to open and read them in the Kobo app, making it a pleasant reading experience.

In fact, I’m going to add some of these free titles to my account right now, so that they’re there if I am stuck somewhere with nothing to read. I’m downloading the Extensis Vitae book as it’s the editor’s pick in the sci-fi section!

Bestselling eBooks from $1.99 @ Kobo.com This Weekend (EXPIRED)

Posted by on January 31, 2015 at 6:00 PM

Bestselling eBooks from $1.99 @ Kobo.com This Weekend (EXPIRED)

I got an email from Kobo about a special deal they’ve got running in select bestsellers online @ Kobo.com this weekend. They’re advertising some best-selling novels for less than $5… but prices actually seem to start from as low as $1.99, which is a really great deal.

As for the eight images I show in the picture above, here’s a quick breakdown of those titles:

Out of all the above titles, the one that caught my eye the most was Born in Blood… I am sure you can tell why, from the image above! But I haven’t actually read any of the above… since having kids, I don’t have a lot of time for books these days! Have you read any of the above? Got any recommendations?

If you don’t yet have Kobo and you’re not sure what systems and devices you can read these books on, here’s a quick list for your interest:

  • Desktop |eReaders| Tablets
  • iOS |Android |Blackberry |Windows

I have the Kobo app on my iPad and I have quite a few books on there. Sometimes when I am travelling, I will buy a cheap book in advance, to have it in the airport for emergency reading… without having to worry about carrying a heavy book with me. And Kobo often do special deals and coupon codes on books, through which I’ve found good offers on some popular titles and they’re stored in my app. For example, I have the Hunger Games and Fifty Shades trilogy both on the Kobo app on my iPad. They’re handy books to re-read if I am stuck.
