Ikea Canada: 25% Off Shipping

Posted by on September 12, 2014 at 5:30 PM

Ikea Canada: 25% Off Shipping

Ikea Canada is offering 25% off shipping costs right now. While this is not a large promotion from the Swedish giant, it is rare for there to be an online promotion so I thought it worth blogging about.

Not everyone has the convenience of an Ikea nearby, but they would still like to purchase Ikea furniture and more for either the aesthetic or the cost. While not all products are available online, it at least gives you somewhere to start when shopping for your new Ikea goods.

If you need a new dresser, check out the TARVA 3 drawer chest that was just reduced from $99 to $79.99. It is made of solid wood and has nice smooth running drawers. This dresser is perfect for a child’s bedroom or the room of a more minimalistic shopper (it certainly would not fit my husband’s wardrobe).

The 25% off shipping is automatically taken off and the estimate given reflects this discount. Ikea shipping is fairly high, but you must keep in mind you are shipping very heavy objects. The dresser above, after discount, would cost $18.75 to ship to Vancouver Island. Here in Nanaimo, we are not on the mainland and we are pretty far from an Ikea, which is probably why it costs so much.

You do not have to buy furniture at Ikea, there are also linens and other (smaller) objects you can purchase from there as well. Summer is quickly fading into fall, but you can bask in the green days of summer with this STRANDKRYPA duvet cover and pillowcase(s) set for $34.99. Shipping would be just $10.50 to where I live, and probably much less for mainland Canada.

I do not have much from Ikea myself, but I do love their bookshelves. They seem to be very versatile and I have seen so many things made out of them including benches and display cases. My main Ikea purchases have been big mason jars for my baking supplies and small glass jars for spices. I really like using the glass mason jars as my ingredients stay fresher much longer in the jars. I also do not have to worry about pesky insects as the jars seal. My spices also stay fresher longer in my Ikea jars.

Moosers, do you shop at Ikea? If so, what are some of your favourite things that you have purchased from there?

Avoid Spending A Fortune At Your Next Visit To Ikea

Posted by on August 24, 2014 at 8:00 PM

Avoid Spending A Fortune At Your Next Visit To Ikea

There’s a reason why Ikea is so popular.  Ever since I was a child, I used to be obsessed with looking at the Ikea catalogues. I’m still amazed at the beautiful layout and design ideas that the catalogue pages depict.  From the marketing design to the free children’s playroom (which I loved as a kid, by the way) and very economically priced hot dog and soft serve ice cream, the trip to Ikea is designed for you to invest your time and money. I think that most people agree: it can be very hard to get out of Ikea without spending any money.

Here are some ways in which you can save money during and after your next trip to Ikea:

Go With a Plan (and a List)

One of the easiest ways to spend money is through the slow meander through the display area in Ikea.  According to the Globe and Mail, the average shopper spends about two hours wandering through Ikea.  This is not surprising since the average size of Ikea is akin to roughly six football fields. The strategically placed items are meant to make you buy on impulse (all those cute things near the cashier are meant to make you impulse buy).  I found it very interesting that on average, 50% of customers who shop through Ikea purchase something, which is much higher than the average women’s wear boutique, per the Globe and Mail article.

If you head to Ikea and plan your purchases beforehand, you could head through those six football fields with less temptation and more direction. You will head straight to the warehouse section, find your aisle and get out of there without buying a lamp, a terrycloth stuffed animal, or some kitchen utensil that you probably do not need.  This article from The Consumerist concurs that the Ikea business thrives on add-on sales.

Take Advantage of Sales

If you sign up for their mailing list, you will get to know firsthand when the bedroom collection or bathroom collection goes for 30% off.  Unfortunately it’s a little bit of spam, but considering Ikea stuff rarely goes on sale, this might not be a bad idea.

In addition, Ikea has Wacky Wednesday sales where they have an item that goes on sale for a very reasonable price. It does mean making a trip out to Ikea during a weekday, and sometimes the items are not necessary (meaning it would also be an impulse purchase if you bought it).

Finally, head to the As-Is section of Ikea.  The mark downs tend to be very generous and very reasonable.  Best yet, the As-Is section is full of items that are already assembled for you (that Allen Key is the bane of a lot of people’s existence, I’m sure). One person’s dislike is another person’s treasure, isn’t it!

If You Live in the States…

In the American Ikea stores, you can sign up for a $25 coupon if you spend more than $250 and are planning to move. In addition, if you sign up for the Ikea Friends and Family Program you can get a free cup of coffee and get information on the special discounts just for members. It is free to join. I don’t think we have any great deals like this in our Canadian Ikea stores, but hopefully in the future there will be.

After Your Visit

After your visit to Ikea comes the dreaded task of assembling the furniture with the aforementioned Allen Key.  I found that it was useful to pay someone (I found someone on Craigslist) to do it because it saved me time and frustration. For me, I could spend my time being more productive as opposed to spending hours trying to assemble something properly.

However, asking your friends to help out (handy friends, might I add) is a great solution too!

Get Some Ikea Hack Ideas

If you are bored with your Ikea furniture and want to make it a bit more unique, especially since everyone is buying the same furniture, head to this great website called Ikea Hackers.  It is filled with creative and easy ideas to make your Ikea furniture a bit more unique.

Bargainmoosers, how do you save money at Ikea?

Ikea Canada Freebie: Cord Fastening Kit For Children’s Wall Mounted Lamps

Posted by on June 26, 2014 at 9:30 AM

Ikea Canada Freebie: Cord Fastening Kit For Children’s Wall Mounted Lamps

Ikea Canada is offering a great freebie right now with no purchases required.  For a limited time only, you can get a free Cord Fastening Kit for all of their children’s wall-mounted lamps.

Just like the safety concerns with blind cords in children’s rooms, there are some safety concerns having wall mounted lamps in children’s rooms as well.  Loose lamp cords can present an entanglement hazard to infants and young children. Make sure that the lamp and cord is out of reach of children when in a crib or playpen and securely fastened to the wall.

In order to do this, all you will need to do is phone the Ikea Canada number toll free at 1-800-661-9807 to get a free cord fastening kit for your child’s wall mounted lamps.

This free kit will include everything you will need to ensure your child’s safety in their room.  It includes a warning label, safety instructions and self-adhesive fasteners for securing the lamp cord to the wall. It looks like there is no maximum number of wall kits you can order free of charge, so you will want to order one per wall light in your kids rooms.  I know my son has a wall lamp right now and although it looks great and he loves it, this freebie has opened my eyes.  I will be calling to get my free kit today!

This is the type of freebie you will want to pass onto other parents or daycares for saftey reasons.  Share the freebie on Facebook as well to reach even more people.  When it comes to the well being of a child, you can never do too much.

Free $40 Ikea Canada Coupon On $200+ In Stores

Posted by on June 1, 2014 at 12:30 PM

Free $40 Ikea Canada Coupon On $200+ In Stores

Ikea is one of those stores that you can purchase so much for such a little amount of money, and still get some pretty great quality items.  Right now until June 8th, head into your local Ikea and when you spend $200 or more, you will get a coupon for $40 off your next purchase.

Basically, when you spend at least $200 on anything, you will get this $40 coupon.  You will be able to use it between July 7th and September 8th 2014 on purchases of $150 or more.  You can look at it almost like getting a gift card for future purchases that has a minimum spend.

One of the great things about Ikea is how much they have to offer.  You can literally renovate any room and get all the decorations and furniture to redo it at one store.  Not only that, but they are very affordable as well.  Any time we need to buy some new furniture, we price compare with Ikea and almost every time, Ikea has the best offer.  They may not be the identical piece of furniture but they are more cost efficient and the design is usually much cooler than places like The Brick or Leons.

I am looking to get some new bedding, so that is what I will be spending my $150 on to get my coupon.  Then this summer, we want to update our bathroom and kitchen area, so I will use my coupon for that.

If you are looking to get some great Ikea deals, the best time to shop would have to be on Wednesdays. Every Wednesday, they have what they call “Wacky Wednesday Deals” and you can save a bundle. I have bought flower vases for $0.01 (that is not a typo, they were actually just a penny each!), I have got a duvet (and a good one too) for just $20, and countless kitchen accessories for next to nothing. I actually saw a man that owned a dollar store and was purchasing Wacky Wednesday deals for his store, so he could turn around and sell them and make a profit!

Ikea Canada: 40% Off White Dinnerware

Posted by on April 10, 2014 at 9:30 PM

Ikea Canada: 40% Off White Dinnerware

Ikea has a fabulous deal on their 365+ open stock white dinnerware, with 40% off. I have their white dinnerware plates and absolutely love them, so I had to tell you about this deal so you can love them too.

Did you know that white is the best colour for dinnerware because it shows off the food, and the food is what really matters. I also heard that white plates are better for portion control as you really see what you are eating without all the busy patterns around your food.

Ikea has an 18-piece set of this dinnerware for $39.99, but if you bought each piece separately during this sale, you’d pay only $32.40 and this way you could actually customize the size and shape of the pieces you want, as well as how many you truly want.

This dinnerware is made of feldspar porcelain, which is impact resistant (meaning it might not break, but it is possible).

The only bummer I found out is that this deal is available only in-store, which might be ok as taking a trip to Ikea can be a fun family day out, you can get a very affordable meal in the restaurant and put your kids in the very fun playland. Also, shipping can be a little unaffordable.

Ikea Canada: Buy 3 Dining Chairs & Get One Free

Posted by on March 28, 2014 at 1:30 PM

Ikea Canada: Buy 3 Dining Chairs & Get One Free

Ikea has a great sale on dining chairs right now, where if you buy three, you get the fourth free. Buy six, get the seventh and eighth free and so on.

I have to say, this sale came at the most absolute perfect time for me. My husband built us a gorgeous farmhouse style wood table for our kitchen. The chairs we have go with the old table, so all will have to go and now we need chairs. To my chagrin, dining chairs are really expensive! I’ve searched high and lo and found the perfect ones at Ikea, just in time for this sale! Ikea does have really great prices on chairs, even though you have to put them together. I’ve searched Homesense, The Brick, Sears, Urban Barn and more and found that Ikea’s prices beat them all. Most chairs are at least $100 each and Ikea has them as low as $10!

The ones I love the most are these white Ingolf chairs with an X style back. I need something with no fabric as the kids spill often. White might not be the best choice for us, as you’ll see every fingerprint, but we were thinking of having two white chairs for my husband and I and then having these dark Kaustby chairs for the kids. My husband already went to pick up at our local store and they were sold out, so we are going to have to order online! Even better, the Ingolf chairs are on sale from $69.99, down to $59.99. The Kaustby chairs are only $49.99.

Shipping is usually pretty steep from Ikea, but I added four chairs to my cart and it only came to $25. That is worth the cost of gas depending where you live and you won’t spend your money on all the other trinkets you see in-store.

Ikea Canada: Get Up To $100 Back In Gift Cards Online Today Only (Expired)

Today only, when you shop online at Ikea, you’ll get money back in gift cards.

If you are considering a larger purchase from Ikea, today is the day to do it and get rewarded for it at the same time.

  • Spend $250, get $25 back
  • Spend $500, get $50 back
  • Spend $1000, get $100 back

You can use your gift cards in-store or online, so you don’t need to make a large trek to your nearest Ikea the next time you want to use them. This offer also excludes certain kitchen items like appliances, faucets, sinks, handles and pre-cut countertops.

But, you can use it on any furniture, storage units, smaller items like toys or housewares. Ikea is the perfect place to shop to get yourself organized after the holidays with all the new stuff you don’t know where to put. They have awesome toy storage units, which I have all over my house.

Shipping depends on the size of what you order, but I have to say, it isn’t cheap. But, with this deal, the shipping would pay for itself.

Ikea Canada Midnight Madness: 50% Off Select Items (Expired)

Get 50% off select items at Ikea’s Midnight Madness sale on tonight from 6pm until midnight. There are hundreds of discounted items and while it says in-store only, it also says online prices will reflect the discounted price. Come back at 6pm to see if there are any goodies on sale. Or, head to your local store to make sure you get what you want. Each store has different items on sale, so check the Ikea website for your local store and what they’ll have on sale.

Some really good deals I see are:

Ikea Canada: Cyber Monday Free Shipping On Orders Over $250 (Expired)

Ikea Canada: Cyber Monday Free Shipping On Orders Over $250 (Expired)

If you are hoping to make a trip to Ikea this holiday season, you don’t have to! Today only for Cyber Monday, get free shipping on your purchase over $250. This is a pretty sweet deal since Ikea’s shipping costs are notoriously steep.

I love Ikea, but the closest store to me is about an hour and a half away. Many times I’ve thought of ordering online but the shipping fees always stop me. This deal is great because you can get big items or small items, and as long as you spend over $250, they’ll make it to you for free.

I am really considering these Stefan chairs, which are solid wood and a very good price. They were $25, now only $19. Not just that, when you buy three, you get the fourth free on dining chairs! I could outfit my entire table with this deal and say hello to the delivery man and shut the door, no other payment required. This is very tempting considering I can’t fit all the chairs plus my kids in my van anyway.

If you need a table too, consider this Stornas extendable table, which is $50 off, now only $449.

Ikea also has really good deals on glassware (I know because I just picked some up), like these red wine glasses that are only $2.99 a piece.

Be sure to visit Bargainmoose on December 9th for No Minimum Monday, where we will have 180 stores offering free shipping with no minimum.

Ikea Canada: Free Shipping On All Orders Under 60 lbs. Today Only

Ikea Canada: Free Shipping On All Orders Under 60 lbs. Today Only

If you’ve been wanting something small (under 60 lbs.), now is the time to get it. Today only, Ikea is offering free shipping on your orders under 60 lbs. Normally shipping is very expensive from Ikea so this deal is something to be thankful for today.

I actually hit up the Ikea in Toronto yesterday. I had four kids with me and planned to put them all in the playland there and shop leisurely for an hour. Instead, playland was full. I rushed through Ikea listening to whining and screaming, being bumped into and cursed at. And then I dealt with my kids. Ikea was packed with entire families of 12 standing in the middle of the aisles, looking aimlessly at a slipcover or a plate. Needless to say, Ikea was not a fun shopping experience for me yesterday.

To my happy surprise, Ikea has free shipping for orders under 60 lbs. today! There were a few items I failed to pick up in my mad rush through the store, so now I can order them without anyone bothering me (mostly).

Basically, you’ll add your items to your cart, add your postal code and click calculate. If you it says $0, you are in luck! Mine came up as $0.01 for some reason, but to me, that’s still free! Actually, it says you’ll be charged that and it will be refunded within seven days.

This is not available in Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Newfoundland and Labrador, Manitoba (certain areas), Quebec (certain areas) and in some remote areas.

Check out our free shipping page, for other stores that ship for free.

Ikea Canada: 25% Off Shipping

Posted by on September 15, 2013 at 10:00 AM

Ikea Canada: 25% Off Shipping

If you haven’t ordered from Ikea before because the shipping is too much, you might change your mind for now. Ikea has a deal on right now with 25% off shipping.

I know friends who live in my area who make going to Ikea a special trip. And it is. I love spending half a day walking through their store. What I don’t love is spending the gas to get there or wasting the time, when I need something soon-ish. If you know what you want and just want it brought to your home, this Ikea sale is a good one.

Coincidentally, there is also a sale on Pax wardrobes, which are amazing closet systems and make me swoon. Pax wardrobes and all Komplement interiors are 15% off.

Ikea says the shipping discount will automatically be applied when you calculate shipping. When I calculated the shipping to my house on a Pax wardrobe, it totalled $149, so I’m going to assume it was $200 before the shipping discount. That’s a $50 savings and although it still means spending $150 to get whatever item to my house, if I don’t have a truck, I would need it shipped anyway. Also, by the time I pay for gas, the shipping cost is not really that much more. Smaller items will have cheaper shipping, which will still be 25% off.

Ikea Midnight Madness Sale: Up To 50% Off

Posted by on June 21, 2013 at 2:00 PM

Ikea Midnight Madness Sale: Up To 50% Off

From 6pm until midnight, Ikea stores will be holding their Midnight Madness sale, both in-store and online. You can get up to 50% off select items, with different items at different stores and online.

This sale is not valid in British Columbia and Quebec. To see what is available at your local store, click on store offers.

Items I see that are available at most stores:

Select summer furniture 50% off:

  • Poang armchair – was $79, now $39
  • Expedit shelving unit – was $49.99, now $29.99
  • Ten piece meatball dinner – was $4.99, now $1.99
  • Nexus doors 75% off

This looks like a pretty great sale, especially if there is something you know you want. If shopping in-store, I’d suggest going early to avoid line-ups and missing out on something you want.

Ikea Canada Bedroom Event: 15% Off Pax & Komplement Interiors

Ikea Canada Bedroom Event: 15% Off Pax & Komplement Interiors

Ikea Canada is having their amazing bedroom event where you can get 15% off Pax and Komplement interiors for your home.

I have a walk-in closet, but I still dream about Pax wardrobes. I love their easy functionality and how organized your closet can actually be. My walk-in closet is a mass of clothing on hangers and purses thrown on a shelf. With Pax, you can actually organize your t-shirts from your sweaters, your scarves, your jewellery and anything else you want in your closet. The options are seriously endless.

What I love about most large Ikea items is that you can choose every little part of the furniture, from the doors to the shelves to even the knobs and handles.

Do you want shelves in your closet? Well, of course you do and the Pax Shelves are now $17 (was $20), for two shelves.

This Komplement Pants Hanger is an amazing addition to any wardrobe. Was $40, now $34.

This Komplement Chest of Drawers is really cool with a top compartment for organizing jewellery, ties, undergarments or really anything you’d like. Was $140, now $119.

Shipping depends on what you buy, but can be pricey, so it might be beneficial to shop in-store. The upside to shipping is that if you don’t live close to an Ikea, you’ll save on gas and the hassle of going there by just getting it delivered.

Bargainmoosers, what would your dream closet look like?

Ikea Canada Sofa Event: Buy One Fabric Sofa, Loveseat or ArmChair, Get the 2nd 50% Off

Posted by on April 2, 2013 at 10:00 AM

Ikea Canada Sofa Event: Buy One Fabric Sofa, Loveseat or ArmChair, Get the 2nd 50% Off

Ikea Canada is having their annual Sofa Event, where you buy one fabric sofa, loveseat or armchair and get the second for 50% off.

If you are buying these items online, you will pay full price at checkout and the 50% amount will be refunded to your credit card within 3-5 days.

Is it time to refresh your living space with some new furniture? I would love a new couch, but I still have a 2-year-old and a puppy who have the potential for disaster. When drinks stop accidentally making it onto the couch and furniture stops being an art canvas, I will definitely take advantage of this sale the next time it comes around.

What’s awesome about Ikea’s fabric sofas is that they have removable, machine washable covers! Maybe I do need some new furniture! After dry cleaning every single cushion after a recent flu incident, being able to wash the cover in the washing machine is a very tempting and amazing idea. You can even buy replaceable covers so you can change up the colour and look of your living space at a whim!

I love this Ektorp corner sofa. I currently have a style like this and I find it keeps the family closer, since we all like cuddling anyway! You can get a variety of colours and I love the Idemo Red, ($999) but for something more tame, check out the Blekinge white ($949). Add the loveseat in any colour, starting from regularly $479 for white and get it for only $239.50.

Shipping is steep at about $199 with a delivery truck, so sometimes you may be better to buy in-store. But, if you don’t live near an Ikea or you don’t have a vehicle to transport furniture, this may be a viable option.
