After Christmas sales are the perfect time to find deeply discounted gift sets. This often allows you to try a new product or perhaps get a few of your favourites for a lower price. Sometimes the sets are made up of travel size items that are just perfect for any upcoming vacations away from this cold or to squirrel away for the summer. In the best gift sets, the company has thrown in some extras.

Fellow Mooser, Brooke, has found a gift set at the always-reliable Amazon Canada that meets all of the above requirements for a great find. Amazon.ca has a TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Bonus Gift Pack for 50% off its original $20 price tag — get the whole kit and caboodle for only $9.99. Orders over $25 will ship for free.

Amazon Canada: Babyliss Pro Miracurl Professional Curl Machine Was $300 | Now $118 & Free Shipping

With the holidays approaching you may be thinking about your holiday outfits, but how about your holiday hair? I love curling my hair for special events, but it never stays curled! I have wanted to try something like the Babyliss Pro Miracurl professional curl machine but could not justify the over $200 price tag to myself, since I’ll only be using it for weekends and nights out. Amazon is making that justification for me, by reducing the price from its regular price of $299.99, all the way down to $117.99. Of course, being over $25, this item will also have free shipping.

This machine isn’t just some gimic that won’t do what it says and that is why it is online. It has a number of reviews on Amazon with a huge majority giving it 5 stars. Read the rest of this entry »

8 Smart And Inexpensive Uses For Coconut Oil

8 Smart And Inexpensive Uses For Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has been topping the charts now for a little while as a top ingredient for anyone trying to be a little more health conscious. While I normally do not jump on the miracle product of the week trend, coconut oil has so many different uses it is difficult to pass up. When coconut oil first became popular, most jars seemed to be in the $15 to $20 range. Now with smaller jars available at lower prices, such as this jar for $6.97 at Walmart.ca, it becomes much more economical to try some of these amazing ideas without purchasing a large jar. I recently scored a large jar of coconut oil on sale at the health food store, lucky me! Since I have an abundance of this miracle oil, I have been trying out new uses for coconut oil in my kitchen, beauty routine, and my home. Here are some of my favourite smart ideas.

Exfoliating Shaving Cream And Scrub

8 Smart And Inexpensive Uses For Coconut Oil

We are in the middle of summer and my pale legs are feeling the pressure to be smooth and flawless all the time. Shaving constantly brings a whole host of new problems such as razor burn, dry skin and clogged pores. This coconut oil shave scrub from Mother’s Niche is magical. Not only does it scrub all of dead skin, it also provides extra moisture for legs that have been dipping in the pool. Best of all you only need coconut oil and sugar. Drop in a few drops of your favourite essential oil, or use this with no extra scent for sensitive skin.

Sunburn Relief Cream

8 Smart And Inexpensive Uses For Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has a natural SPF though it is only rated at SPF four. The good news is if you have a minor sunburn, the moisturizing qualities of coconut oil can help heal that sunburn quicker. Check out this recipe from Hello Natural that is a whipped concoction of coconut oil, aloe vera gel and essential oils. If you have no essential oils, I have been known to use real vanilla extract in a pinch when I was out of essential oil. Apply to minor sunburns and next time apply more sunscreen!

Refinish Wood Furniture

8 Smart And Inexpensive Uses For Coconut Oil

Did you run out of your favorite colour of wood stain? No problem when you have coconut oil! Check out this amazing refinishing project from 2 Little Superheroes. I never seem to pick the right colour wood stain the first time around. Coconut oil adds moisture to the wood and the oil brings out those beautiful colours in your piece. This same idea can be used on your wood cutting boards to restore the finish with a food safe product.

Eye Makeup Remover

8 Smart And Inexpensive Uses For Coconut Oil

You can use coconut oil to remove all of the dirt, grime and waterproof makeup from your skin at the end of the day. No extra ingredients are needed, and this little trick even manages to take off waterproof mascara. Check out the tutorial on The Beauty Department for the full instructions.

E0S Lip Balm Refills

8 Smart And Inexpensive Uses For Coconut Oil

The idea of making your own lip balm is not new. What is new is incorporating coconut oil into the mix and refilling your old EOS lip balm containers. These wide containers are perfect for my daughter as they are wider for her less steady hand. Check out the full tutorial on the WhatsUpMoms YouTube Channel. I was shocked just how similar the store bought version and her refill version look. (Psst, this is the same mom behind the viral Blank Space video parody.)

Homemade Magic Shell

8 Smart And Inexpensive Uses For Coconut Oil

Have you ever seen that chocolate that hardens on top of your ice cream called Magic Shell that only lasts for a few bowls of ice cream? They use this same type of chocolate to make dipped cones at ice cream shops. Now you can make your own at home with this two-ingredient recipe from Food 52. All you need is coconut oil and chocolate, and you can make pricey and delicious cones for a fraction of the price. You can also use this to dip frozen bananas or popsicles.

Deep Hair Conditioner

8 Smart And Inexpensive Uses For Coconut Oil

Despite not using heat on my hair very often, my wavy hair still gets drier than I would like it to. I was so excited to find I can use coconut oil as a deep hair conditioner by using this recipe from Mrs. Happy Homemaker. Those hot oil treatments and conditioning hair masks add up. This is a much cheaper alternative using coconut oil that is very quick to whip up and lasts more than one application.

Minty Vanilla Dog Spray

8 Smart And Inexpensive Uses For Coconut Oil

Get rid of that wet dog smell and instead make your dog smell like cupcakes. Over at Add A Pinch, they have created a safe, nontoxic dog spray that you can use between baths. Simply spray the mixture lightly on your dog’s coat after they have been outside playing. Be careful to avoid the dog’s eyes, ears and mouth as you spray, as this spray is for their fur, not their dog breath!

Walls Republic Promo Code: Up To 80% Off Plus Exclusive 10% Off Your Order Plus 5 Free Samples

Do you flip through style magazines dreaming of the home you wish you could have but think you can’t afford it? You really don’t know what a little bit of wallpaper can do to a room. Gone are the days of every wall being covered in paper and in are the days of having feature walls with beautiful and stylish paper. Walls Republic is a Canadian wall coverings company that has been around for 17 years, but we are just getting around to telling you about them now. They’ve got beautiful wallpaper, coverings and murals that have been featured in those magazines that I spoke of. On top of that, they’ve got a section with up to 80% off some styles and on top of that, you can use our exclusive coupon code to get another 10% off your order.

Click here to shop @ Wallsrepublic.com now

  • Coupon Code: BARGAINMOOSE
  • Discount: 10% off
  • Expiry: Never?

A few years ago, I decorated my home office and added one wall of this gorgeous wallpaper for which I paid about $350 for. The results were truly stunning, although I wish I could have spent a little bit less. But, once I sold that house, I actually missed that room that I had put together so well and my gorgeous wallpaper that I had fawned over daily.

The good news for me is that I can find another equally gorgeous wallpaper to decorate my new home office in the future and now that I know about Walls Republic, I can get it at quite the discount.

My wallpaper was very similar to this twist vanilla, which is a very light way to make a wall stand out without having it overtake the room. This paper is a hot deal, with a regular price of $219, and on sale for $99 and comes down to $89.10 with coupon code!

While all prices are in US funds, Walls Republic does ship from Canada, for a flat rate of $10. While you might be used to free shipping or shipping thresholds, there aren’t many stores like this online and I think with the deals you are getting the flat rate is still worth it. It is much easier to do this than pick through a bargain bin of wallpaper on sale at Home Depot or your local paint store. Here, you get what you want, you get the very discounted price and it comes right to your home.

If you aren’t ready to order and want to see how the wallpaper will look on your wall, you can order up to five free very large samples. You will have to pay the $10 shipping cost, but it might be better to see what you love firsthand. Afterward you can use the paper for some DIY projects if you’d like!

Hudson’s Bay Canada: GlucksteinHome European Feather Down Duvet & Bonus Travel Pillow Was $460 | Now $123 & Free Shipping

Posted by on May 21, 2015 at 4:00 PM

Hudsons Bay Canada: GlucksteinHome European Feather Down Duvet & Bonus Travel Pillow Was $460 | Now $123 & Free Shipping

Checking out the Hudson’s Bay site today, I found the coupon code C7BNB04, which gives you $15 off your $75 order of bed and bath items. I thought it sounded a little juicy if I could stack it with something on deep clearance and luck be have it, I found the GlucksteinHome european feather down duvet with bonus travel pillow. Regularly $560 for a king, it is on sale for $168 and with coupon code comes down to $153. The queen is regularly $460, on sale for $138 and comes down to $123 with coupon. Because your order is over $99, it will also ship for free.

If you’ve recently shopped for bedding, you know it can get quite expensive. I think it is more than worth it though, as you spend so much of your time between the sheets. What you do there, is of course up to you. Either way, you want to be comfortable and you want it to look good. I have always found that duvets were more comfortable than comforters. They are also easier to wash, since you just wash the cover. When you wash a king-sized comforter, no matter how big your washer, you’re going to end up with a sopping mess and a beeping washer because your load is just too big. I know this from personal experience.

What’s also nice with a duvet is that you can change your cover as often as you like without a huge expense. Your duvet stays on your bed and the new cover gives your room a different look.

This duvet has 300 thread count and is 100% cotton. It also has european feather down fill. You also get this bonus travel pillow, which is not pictured so I have no idea what it exactly is.

Shopping around, I found duvets had varying prices, but European feather down duvets sold generally for at least $300. This is Hudson Bay’s own brand, so I can’t completely compare with quality, but they are a solid brand and I know this is a fantastic deal.

25% Off All Orders Under $51 With Exclusive Coupon Code @ StickerYou

25% Off All Orders Under $51 With Exclusive Coupon Code @ StickerYou

Do you need some organization in your life? Check out this exclusive coupon code from StickerYou. You can save 25% on any order that is under $51 including labels to help keep your home and your kids organized, or just to make the perfect gift or favour.

Click here to buy custom labels @ StickerYou now

  • Coupon Code: BARGAINMOOSE25
  • Discount: 25% off all orders under $51
  • Expiry: 25th May 2015

Premade labels are handy and even better when they stand up to the rough and tough stuff kids throw at them.  Check out all of the great labels you can buy over here at StickerYou. My first thought with a young child always goes to labels for kids clothing.  I checked out Large Clothing Labels that are 60 labels per sheet. These labels were $16.99 USD for a single sheet but with our exclusive coupon code, you will pay only $12.74 USD for a single sheet. Compare that to Mabel’s Labels where you will spend $21 CAD for the Tagmate clothing labels.

They have some super cute designs including owls, Lego, dinosaurs, dump truck, princess, cupcakes, ninja turtles and more. StickerYou even allows you to choose whether you want a page of custom designed prints or all the same label so you can mix and match if you want. I like being able to fully customize, but would probably choose to use the quick wizard to produce a bunch of labels all in the same theme.

I also notice that StickerYou carries many neat products for both organizing your house and throwing a great party. For example, check out these fun Candy Labels. These labels were $9.99, but with our coupon code is only $7.49 USD. These would be cute for a wedding, baby shower, graduation party or just for handing out the best teacher gifts at the end of the year. These labels would help make quick and easy gifts or favours.

I also really need these Home Labels Medium Labels for my kitchen. My flour, sugar, and other canisters could certainly use an update and I am tired of trying to distinguish the different. These labels are $9.99 per sheet but with our coupon code is only $7.49 USD. I like the fancy shaped home labels also on the same page but the medium have 27 per page and the fancy labels only have eight.  You can choose how many labels per sheet you receive based on what size label you need.

Shipping is only $3.99 USD for one or two pages of labels. If you order more than that, shipping goes up to $5.99 for three to five pages and is on a tiered system after that. This company does ship from Canada, so there is no concern over duties and fees. Taxes are calculated right in your order though everything is calculated in USD.

I think StickerYou has so many great options for labels. Right now is the perfect time to pick some up with the end of the year parties, summer camps starting and wedding season all in full swing. Go check out these cute labels out for yourself.

Hudson’s Bay Canada: $100 Off HBC Blankets & Free Shipping

Posted by on May 1, 2015 at 11:22 AM

Hudsons Bay Canada: $100 Off HBC Blankets & Free Shipping

I’ve blogged a few of Hudson Bay’s sales on their own line of home decor and more a few times with good response. So, I thought I’d tell you about this fantastic deal, just in time for opening your cottage, that gives you $100 off Hudson’s Bay Company blankets. There are varying sizes, styles and prices, but they are all $100 off their regular price.

With the weather getting ever-warmer and this week ahead looking fantastic in Ontario, I’m sure people are starting to travel north to their cottages. One cottage look that has not died over the many years it has been around, and is in fact seeing such a revival in style magazines, is the Hudson’s Bay Company look. It doesn’t just have to be for your cottage, but I think it is just such a classic look at your Canadian getaway spot.

The most classic look is of the multi-stripe and this blanket, interesting enough, has not been out of production since first produced in 1800! Hudson’s Bay says it is their most popular blanket, through all of these years, as it really identifies as Canadian. Funnily, it is made in England, but I like that it was not made in China or another country where they are doing it as cheaply as possible. Apparently, where it is made is the finest woolen mill in England for centuries. It is made from 100% woven wool, so you know it will last and keep you warm on those cool nights. The king size is regularly $495 and now $395, queen was $395, now $295, twin was $295, now $195 and the full was $350, now $250.

With many reviews, every single reviewer but one gave it a five-star rating.

The HBC point blanket is a warm, cozy, and colourful addition to any room. Covering a bed or ready to reach for to keep the chill away, I love that I’ve purchased such a useful but iconic item. I look forward using it and hopefully passing it along.

I love the idea that this blanket will be passed on. I think that right there is a reason to buy it.

If you want something more modern, but still with that iconic stripe look, the Milennium stripe point blanket has the same price points as the above blanket, but it has a more muted look.

Shipping will be free on any of these blankets, being over $99.

8 Marvelous Uses For Baking Soda

8 Marvelous Uses For Baking Soda

Have you ever tried to use this wonder product? Our grandparents sure knew about the power and versatility of baking soda, but somewhere between the cleaning and the grocery aisle I think we sometimes forget this powerful and frugal cleaner these days.

You can often find baking soda for a dollar or less per box, making it a very economical product to use. From cleaning to beauty, baking soda is versatile and gentle with no extra chemicals. Here are eight great ways you can use baking soda at home.

Teeth Whitener

8 Marvelous Uses For Baking Soda

Are you a teeth whitening strip addict? Those kits start at $40 bucks a pop! Slash that budget by using a mixture of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and peppermint oil instead. Get the full details over at One Good Thing By Jillee. If you are hesitant to use peroxide, though most commercial whiteners have many worse ingredients, brushing regularly with baking soda alone can help whiten your teeth also. You can use baking soda alone more frequently than a baking soda and hydrogen peroxide combination.

Removing Sticker Residue

8 Marvelous Uses For Baking Soda

There is a product called Goo Gone that is fantastic for removing sticker residue leftover from labels, price tags or tape. The problem with Goo Gone is it smells disgusting! Make your own version using baking soda and an oil such as coconut oil or vegetable oil. Check out the recipe on Mom 4 Real and make this residue remover with items probably already in your pantry.

Clean Coffee & Tea Mug Stains

8 Marvelous Uses For Baking Soda

This hack changed my life. Before this idea, my coffee mugs always had residue from my favourite hot beverages. Now when I start to notice stains, I sprinkle in a little baking soda. With a few drops of water and a quick wipe, my cups are now snow white again. The Kitchn has a quick explanation that will have both your mugs and carafes clean in no time.

Deep Clean Your Mattress

8 Marvelous Uses For Baking Soda

Throw open the windows for some fresh air, spring-cleaning is here. When was the last time you cleaned your mattress if ever? It might be time to freshen it up. Pour several cups all over your mattress and let it set for an hour, then vacuum. For the full process, check out this article from Pop Sugar. If you really want some motivation to clean check out the post at The LoopYour Mattress Is Disgusting And Here’s Why.” The dust mites in this post give me the creeps. I need to go clean my mattress now.

Homemade Fabric Refresher

8 Marvelous Uses For Baking Soda

While you are freshening up fabrics, you can freshen up your couch, chairs and any other fabric surfaces in your house. Create this homemade “Febreze” recipe using baking soda and fabric softener for about fifteen cents per bottle. Febreze runs you $3 bucks per bottle, this hack is worth it! Check out the recipe over at DIY Confessions.

Dishwasher Cleaning Bombs

8 Marvelous Uses For Baking Soda

You could scrub away at your dishwasher with chemicals, or even baking soda and a toothbrush. To be honest how often are you going to complete that routine without pulling out your hair? Make these awesome baking soda dishwasher bombs instead featured at Our Carlson Life. Place two cups of vinegar in a bowl on the top rack, and a dishwasher bomb on the bottom rack. One clean cycle later, your dishwasher will sparkle.

Foot Soak

8 Marvelous Uses For Baking Soda

I think I am going to skip the spa this time and try this DIY treatment over at eHow.com. With baking soda, milk and a few other items you probably have around the house you can give your tootsies the treatment they deserve. My toes are not ready for summer yet. They are almost too embarrassingly dry and cracked to take into a pedicure shop. Winter can be rough on your feet. This baking soda treatment will help me get my toes ready for summer sandals.

Shoe Deodorizer

8 Marvelous Uses For Baking Soda

Spring can mean wet and stinky shoes. Cut down on those odors by making your own deodorizing shoe inserts. Check out the tutorial over at Small Good Things. I have been putting loose baking soda in my shoes for years, but it never occurred to me to put it in old tights for an insert with less mess. These satchels last about three months, which should get you through most of summer.

If you are looking for more cleaning ideas on the cheap, check out Brooke’s post 8 Fabulous Frugal Uses for Vinegar.

Hudson’s Bay Canada: Nautica Duvet Sets Were $550 | Now $130 & Free Shipping (EXPIRED)

Posted by on April 1, 2015 at 12:43 PM

Hudsons Bay Canada: Nautica Duvet Sets Were $550 | Now $130 & Free Shipping (EXPIRED)

The Hudson’s Bay is having a flash sale on today with Nautica duvet sets on sale, regularly up to $550 and now only $129.99 with free shipping.

There are two sets available at this low price and I’ve already picked up mine. Both sets are gorgeous, one with a floral look, the other with a simpler look.

The first set on sale is the Tisbury duvet cover set. It was $550 for the king, $485 for the queen and both now only $129.99. It comes with the duvet cover, two decorative pillows and the sham set. The cover is also reversible with stripes on one side and Jacobean flowers on the other. The cover and shams are mainly red with navy and grey accents.

The second set is the Winston duvet cover set. It was $520 for the king and $460 for the queen and now $129.99 for both sizes. It also includes the cover, two decorative pillows and the shams. This one is blue with white and cobalt blue stripes. I love the simple look of this one for a masculine room for a couple, man or teenage boy.

I like that the king size of the set is the same on sale price as the queen. I have a king size bed and bedding can be very expensive as compared to the smaller sizes.

If you don’t have a duvet, you are in luck if you have a full or queen size bed. The Nautica down alternative duvet was $200 and is now only $70, which is a seriously fantastic deal. Alternative down is great for those allergic to animal down or who want an alternative from animal products.

Shipping is free at Hudson’s Bay when you spend over $99 so the duvet sets will ship for free on their own. If those two styles of duvet covers don’t suit you, there are more sets on sale, just not at the price reduction of the Nautica sets. But, there are great designers like Ralph Lauren, Hotel and Gluckstein Home.

Fruits & Passion Coupon Code: 20% Off Everything & Free Shipping (EXPIRED)

Posted by on March 28, 2015 at 11:30 AM

Fruits & Passion Coupon Code: 20% Off Everything & Free Shipping (EXPIRED)

Fruits and Passion has got some great stackable deals on this weekend that will have you wanting to freshen up your home with a new scent. First, they’ve lowered their free shipping threshold from $70 down to $25, which is pretty sweet in itself. Then, they have a coupon code for another 20% off that you can use on even clearance items. You’ll also score free samples on top of your order.

Click here to shop @ Fruits-passion.ca now

  • Coupon Code: SPRG20
  • Discount: 20% off
  • Expiry: 29th March 2015

I’ve shopped at Fruits & Passion a few times as I love the smell of their products. They are definitely known for their Cucina soaps and I’ve seen them in the bathrooms of the ritziest places. I love that they smell like actual things in nature and not musky perfumey smells. For example, they have Rosemary and Cardamom or Sea Salt and Amalfi, which is definitely the one I’d pick! Obviously these fragrances are modeled on Italy, and the extra virgin olive oil that each soap consists of is sourced from the Mediterranean. They are also triclosan-free, not tested on animals and the collector’s editions come in recyclable glass jars. Plus the jars themselves are a show piece for your counter.  The non-collector’s edition of these soaps are $12.50 each. The collector’s edition jars are $22.50.

If you bought one of each, instead of paying $35, plus shipping, you’ll pay $28 and get free shipping right now. Plus you’ll get free samples:

Fruits & Passion Coupon Code: 20% Off Everything & Free Shipping (EXPIRED)

You could also fill your cart with some of the hot clearance items that Fruits & Passion has on, and still get 20% off. The Eau de Toilette fine fragrance was $45.50 and now on sale for $10. After coupon, you’ll get it for $8. A nice gift for a friend could be this decorative diffuser set, which was originally $18.50 and now $9.25. After coupon, it comes down to $7.40.

We’ve got a few other great coupons that you could use with your order if you prefer, like getting a free Cucina hand soap when you spend $45. Unfortunately, you can’t use it together with the 20% off, so you might want to see what floats your boat more. For example, on a $45 spend, you’ll get a $9 discount on your order. The soaps are $12.50, so getting that free is actually a better deal. But, that all depends on if you want the soap or the discount on your order.

Cents of Style: Name Hooks Only $4 (expired)

I found a really cute deal that I know you Moosers will be interested in. Cents of Style is selling these distressed name hooks for only $3.95, with a regular price of $9.95.

This is known as a style steal on their site, although it is not a fashion steal, but instead one for your home. I absolutely love these and bought five for my family. This weekend I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to organize my front entry way. You’d think that after nine years of having kids, I’d have this system perfected, but it is always pure chaos in the morning and after school. My kids have their own (very plain) hooks for their backpacks, coats and snow pants, but for some reason, their stuff is never on their hook and I’m constantly getting asked where this or that is. These name hooks solve that problem.

Not only do they solve the organization problem, they look great too. The currents hooks I have up are gold plated and pretty boring. These are colourful and the vintage, distressed look matches perfectly to my decor.

There are four colours to choose from, which are aqua, lime green, yellow and orange. The hooks are 4.5″. You don’t just have to print names on the nameplate – you could use numbers or what item should go on there, such as leash or towels. These would be perfect in a bathroom or closet as well. I can imagine a cute Pinterest-type project being done with these to hang jewellery. Hooks really have so many uses, especially when they look as nice as these.

Cents of Style ships from the U.S., so all prices are in USD, although you can change to GBP if you dare. If you keep your order under $20 then you won’t have to pay duty, and with these, that is totally possible. Shipping is a flat rate of $5, so if you decide you want to get enough hooks that your total is over $20, you might want to see if duty is more than the cost of getting a second order shipped.
