Canadian Freebie: TRESemme, Nexxus & Dove Hair Care Sample Kit From Shoppers Drug Mart (EXPIRED)

Posted by on May 25, 2015 at 11:00 AM

Canadian Freebie: TRESemme, Nexxus & Dove Hair Care Sample Kit From Shoppers Drug Mart (EXPIRED)

I love having freebies shipped right to my door. Right now, you can get a free hair care sample kit from Shoppers Drug Mart full of great freebies. Fill out the form and a free sample kit will be sent to your house soon.

Shopper’s Drug Mart has a nice little freebie kit on their page right now that includes several different brands of hair care products. This kit includes hair care products from TRESemme, Nexxus and Dove. I noticed the drop down box for the province was acting a little weird, but after a few tries it stayed on the correct province. Once I submitted the form, I received a confirmation page that said the sample should arrive in four to six weeks.

This offer is unfortunately not available for Quebec residents. Sorry Quebec, I even double-checked on the Pharmaprix website to see if this freebie might be available on your version of Shopper’s Drug Mart, but it was a no go.

On the sample page, it does not specify exactly what we will be receiving. There is a product feature page, and based on what is featured I would assume we are receiving samples of the following products:

  • Dove Pure Care Dry Oil Shampoo and Conditioner
  • TRESemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoo
  • Nexxus Maxximum Super Hold Finishing Spray
  • Dove STYLE+CARE Frizz-Proof Cream-Serum

This is a nice mix of products, and I am interested in trying all of these items for summer. I find I do need to switch up my hair care routine, as I tend to do a beach style waves more often in the summertime. On top of that, chlorine from the pool dries my hair out a bit. I am also curious about the dry shampoo in particular. If you are looking for some summer hairstyle ideas, click on the header Your To ‘Do List. You will see examples of some quick and easy summer hairstyles, including directions on how to do them in your own hair. I might have to learn how to do a quick rope braid in my long hair until I chop it off and donate it later this summer.

There is also a deal at the bottom of the page for Shoppers Optimum Points Members. If you purchase three Unilever products, you will receive 1500 bonus points right now. If you needed to replenish a few bath products, now might be the time to rack up a few extra Optimum points.

Baby Wisp Canada: 50% Off 5+ Itzy Glitzy Hair Accessories (EXPIRED)

Posted by on April 19, 2015 at 8:15 PM

Baby Wisp Canada: 50% Off 5+ Itzy Glitzy Hair Accessories (EXPIRED)

Deck your little girl’s hair with some new accessories from Baby Wisp as until the end of the day on Monday, you can save 50% off the purchase of five or more items from their Itzy Glitzy collection. Keep in mind that this deal works in packs of fives, which means that you will save 50% for every five products that you get.

Baby Wisp is actually a store that has never been blogged here on Bargainmoose before. They’re a Toronto-based boutique that has been selling baby and toddler hair clips, headbands and other hair accessories since 2008.

Their current promotion is actually quite awesome because I don’t know about you, but I can never keep myself from buying just one kind of hair accessory anyways. It gets to be too fun to add several and the best part about it is that by getting five, you end up saving quite a lot.

The only downside is that shipping is at a flat rate of $5.95 per order but the savings you will accrue from the 50% discount will end up paying for that fee anyways.

The cheapest accessories I found are the small snap sequins stars that are currently already on sale for $1.99 (reg. $5.95). Other accessories range in price from $3.95 to $4.95, $5.95 and the most expensive product in the Itzy Glitzy collection that I found is the mini latch glitter velvet tuxedo bows for babies that are priced at $29.95. Personally, I would never pay that much for hair bows but I would definitely consider getting them with the 50% reduction as they would come down to $14.98 for five glittery bows that would be perfect for special occasions.

Earth Day Special

In honour of Earth Day, which is this Wednesday on April 22nd, Baby Wisp is also offering two limited edition hair accessory packs for 15% off their original prices:

Both of these were originally priced at $9.95 but are now down to $8.45, but no word on when this deal expires. Each pack comes with five cute little bows on snap clips in a variety of colours.

There are no Baby Wisp coupon codes to combine with this promotion now but make sure to keep an eye on these in the Bargainmoose forum.

3 Ways To Save Money On Hair Care

3 Ways To Save Money On Hair Care

Hair care can add up quick. Between the shampoo, conditioner, product, and visits to the hairdresser you may find yourself handing over quite a bit of cash to tame your locks. This great article from the Huffington Post that compares several women, and shows how much they spend on their hair per year. Annual hair investment varied from $900 to well over $10,000. The woman who spent over $10,000 compared her hair to taking care of vintage lace and called it her crown. While the high end of that example may be some extreme hair love, there is no doubt that hair care can easily drain your wallet. By trimming back your hair routine budget with these ideas, you can save yourself some cash every year.

Low Maintenance Hair Salon Trips

When I go to a hairdresser, I try to be clear about my expectations. Most of the time I want a low maintenance cut that will grow out well. I bring a few pictures from my favourite haircuts and hair days on my phone to illustrate what I am looking for. I am fortunate enough now to have found a hairdresser with a home salon that cuts back on the price of the services I receive.

Your hairstyle makes a huge difference as to the amount of hair maintenance you will pay in trims, colouring and product. Real Simple magazine has a great article with several low maintenance haircut ideas. Take some time, talk to your hairdresser and find a low maintenance style that works with your hair.

I love getting colour in my hair, but I tend to save it for a treat. Usually in spring, I lighten up my hair for the warmer weather. I stick to highlights that are not too far from my hair colour so I do not have to spend continual money back in the salon touching it up. I also love the recent ombre and balayage trends with hair that they are discussing over on Brit+Co. If you ask your hairstylist to help you create this trend using your natural hair colour as the base, it grows out easily without much upkeep since the top is darker than the bottom.

Cut Down On Washing Your Hair

3 Ways To Save Money On Hair Care

This is a tough one for many people, but your hair does not need to be washed with shampoo daily. According to WebMD you can skip shampoo pretty regularly, going up to a week between washes depending on your hair type. Shampoo can dry hair out, so skipping shampoo can actually result in healthier hair.

Allure magazine says the curlier your hair is, the less often you need to wash it. People who have straight hair need to wash their hair several times per week, as the natural oils in your hair will literally wick down your hair faster. Curly hair folks can go as long as a week between shampoo sessions.

I would not recommend going cold turkey when dropping your shampoo routine. Slowly phase out your shampoo to give the oil levels in your scalp a chance to adjust. I had an awesome hairdresser who really encouraged me to cut down on the shampoo I used. She suggested using just conditioner when I showered, giving my hair a fresh feeling without drying it out. I have managed to cut my shampoo consumption in half.  If you have trouble with oily hair while trying to reduce your shampoo usage, try a dry shampoo to help ease your hair into the new routine.

Cut Down On Hair Product

3 Ways To Save Money On Hair Care

Hair product such as gel, mousse, serums and hairspray is a variable expense. Like many people, I found a combination of products I like and I tend to stick to it. The two Aveda products I like combined cost $62 and rarely are on sale. I used to purchase the products six to eight times a year, totaling $372 to $496.

Try to find an inexpensive product that works with your hair. For my wavy hair, I go to Herbal Essences Naked Volumizing Soufflé at $2.47 per bottle. I tried this product as a free sample and ended up liking the light hold. On normal days, I swap in my inexpensive product. I save my expensive products for the days I want my hair to look spectacular. Just from switching between the products regularly, I now buy the same Aveda products about three times per year and spend $186.

I try to grab free samples when I can to reduce the costs of trying new products. If you did not wash your hair that day, try wetting your hair with a spray bottle to reactivate your hair product before adding more. This allows you to use less hair product to style your hair on the second day.

Costco Canada: Conair Curl Secret + Travel Hair Dryer & Straightener – Just $100 (+ Free Shipping)

Posted by on December 17, 2014 at 8:30 PM

Costco Canada: Conair Curl Secret + Travel Hair Dryer & Straightener Just $100 (+ Free Shipping)

Save time curling your hair with the Conair Curl Secret. It’s currently $99.99 at Costco and comes with the following two bonus items: a travel dryer and a travel straightener. As usual, shipping at Costco is also absolutely free of charge.

The Conair Curl Secret features a tourmaline ceramic coated barrel with 2 PTC switches and 2 slide switches. It also has two heat settings and 3 timers. The timers are for how curly you want your hair: the longer you keep a strand in, the curlier it will be. Plus, it only takes 30 seconds for it to heat up, which means that you can plug it in and start using it practically right away without having to wait too long.

As I already mentioned, it also comes with a compact folding handle dryer and a mini ceramic straightener. Both of these would be absolutely perfect for taking on a trip or perhaps even using it on occasion at home.

Hands down, this is one of the best Christmas presents you can get a woman or girl right now. It’s a major time saver and best of all is that hair comes out looking amazing in just a matter of seconds. Although I don’t own one yet, I had the pleasure of trying one recently and I was very surprised at how curly my hair turned out. My hair doesn’t usually curl at all and yet within ten seconds, the strand I had inserted came out in a perfect curl. Certainly not a messy curl as in the picture above but if you wanted to, you could achieve that effect as well by teasing your hair after curling it.

Here’s what one reviewer had to say about it:

I love the Conair Curl Secret. I have medium length naturally wavy hair. It takes me about 15 minutes to curl my hair as I just curl the bottoms. The second day, I just need to touch up a few curls and by the third day, I have a beautiful full pony tail. You do not need to use ANY hair product at all (although I use just a tiny bit of curl serum). Loved it so much, many of my friends have bought it too and been super happy.

Everywhere else, the Conair Curl Secret is roughly $90 and doesn’t come with the 2 freebies that Costco’s bundle comes with. In fact, it’s such a hot Christmas gift that it’s already completely sold out at both Best Buy and Future Shop, but considering that you get the 2 freebies for a total of $99, Costco’s deal is definitely a much better one anyways.
