Free and Discounted March Break Ideas For Manitoba & Saskatchewan

March Break is fast approaching on the prairies, and you are going to need some cheap things to do with the kids for the week. I’m going to provide you with a comprehensive list of fun and exciting ideas for the kids that won’t break the bank.

Assiniboine Park looks amazing and is absolutely free to get in. The Conservatory has rotating displays so you feel like it is Spring, even with snow on the ground outside. Located in Winnipeg, they have an all-year nature playground with tobogganing, basket swings and a large open space.

The Winnipeg Police Museum is awesome for your little police officer in training (or criminal in training, take your pick), with some awesome displays and free admission, including a real jail cell.

Chapters has some great Spring Break events on in most cities in Canada. I’m going to check out the Spring games and the Dr. Suess celebrations.

For only a toonie, you could see a matinee of a great kid’s movie at Empire Theatre’s three locations in Manitoba.

Go indoor mini golfing at the Golf Dome in Winnipeg and get a free round of golf when you buy one, with this coupon.

Clarion Hotel and Suites in Winnipeg has a super deal on two adjoining rooms and all of the following, all for only $369:

  • Gift baskets for parents and children.
  • 4 passes to Polo Park Bowling Centre.
  • 4 tickets to the Manitoba Museum.
  • 1 on-command in-room movie selection.
  • Complimentary access to the Clarion’s Family Water Park.
  • Complimentary parking.
  • Late check out (1 p.m.).

The Holiday Inn in Winnipeg South also has a great hotel deal with $25 in free gas for every night you stay and four tickets to the Manitoba Museum. Plus, kids eat free!

The Regina Floral Conservatory is a great way to teach your kids about nature and it is free and open every day! Check out the Lil’ Gardeners club, running on specific days throughout the Spring.

The University of Saskatchewan has free admission to Saturday night viewings at the Observatory. Use the super-large telescopes to find interesting objects in the sky.

If you’ll be traveling on the STC this March Break, check out the discounted fares with up to 25% off.

If you want to check out the Saskatoon Zoo, kids six and under are free! The Saskatchewan Forestry Farm Park and Zoo also lets kids five and under in free and parking is only $2.

For the active families, check out all the trails in Saskatchewan that offer free cross-country skiing!

For only $159, you can get a bus ride on the STC to Manitou Springs resort, (located near Watrous) one night’s stay, free unlimited swimming, free hot breakfast, plus complimentary robes and a ride home.

And since you couldn’t get the toonie deals at Empire in Saskatchewan, check out the toonie deals at Rainbow Cinemas on Tuesdays and the ever-cheap $3.50 matinee and $4 evenings on other days.

The coupons that you will get can be used in the new year and each one has a different expiry date. Here is a look at the coupons you will get with the gift card.

  • Buy one General Admission ticket and get a second ticket free (Valid January 14 – February 7, 2013)
  • General Admission ticket, regular fountain beverage and a small popcorn for $11.99, plus tax (Valid February 1 – 28, 2013)

Empire Theatres: Over 30% Off Student Combo

Empire Theatres: Over 30% Off Student Combo

Empire Theatres is offering students a deal on their ticket, a popcorn and drink from now through the end of April.

All you have to do is show your valid Student ID. This offer is available in AB, BC, MB, NS, and ON.

For my local theatre in Alberta the Student Combo is $14.99 for a medium drink, medium popcorn and a movie ticket. However, I checked out Antigonish in Nova Scotia and the Student Combo was only $12.99. The price depends on which theatre and which province you are in. I found a theatre in Ontario where the combo is only $11.99!

Expiry: Offer not valid December 15th, 2012 through January 6, 2013. Offer expires April 30, 2013.

Empire Theaters: Toonie Matinees for Spring Break

Empire Theaters: Toonie Matinees for Spring Break

Empire Theaters is making sure that you don’t just have to be a kid to enjoy Spring Break this year.  They are offering toonie matinees for Spring Break for people of all ages.

This deal is at selected theaters but from the extensive list they mention, it looks like most of the theaters are included to me.  Since each city and Province has different dates for their individual Spring Breaks, there is a list of the specific dates for each city when you can take advantage of the Toonie Matinees.  The first lucky place is New Brunswick starting 5th March and the last place to get this deal is Alberta and Newfoundland getting it starting 9th April.

The movies that are included will be listed 1 week prior to the scheduled program start date.  Please note show times and film selection varies by location. Toonie Matinee titles will run Monday through Friday during each regions scheduled break.  As an added bonus, they are offering a special  popcorn combo deal for just $7.50.

If your kids are off for Spring Break and you are stuck for some ideas, this is an affordable fun thing to do with them that they will enjoy!

(Expiry: Different for each city)

Empire Theatres: Buy $30 Gift Cards For $30 Free Coupons

Empire Theatres: Buy $30 Gift Cards For $30 Free Coupons

At Empire Theatres Canada, if you buy $30 in gift cards, you will also get a free coupon booklet with $30 worth of coupons!

You can buy the $30 gift cards online, but shipping seems to be $11, so it doesn’t really sound worth it. But it says the offer is available at your local Empire Theatres too, so I would prefer that option.

The Coupon Bundle includes:

  • Buy one General Admission Ticket and get a second Ticket FREE
  • Get $2 OFF any Combo (excluding Kid’s Pack)
  • Admission Ticket, Regular Soft Drink & a Small Popcorn only $9.99 plus tax
  • Purchase a Large Popcorn and get a FREE Large Coca-Cola Soft Drink
  • $6.99 Admission
  • $4.00 OFF General Admission

With every $30 gift card increment, you get another coupon bundle, so you would get 2 coupon bundles if you spent $60 on gift cards.

If you’re a regular cinema goer, this is a good deal. I reckon you would use most of the coupons too, in the general cinema going process.

Empire Theatres: Buy 1 Ticket Get 1 Free!

Posted by on October 20, 2009 at 8:00 AM

Empire Theatres: Buy 1 Ticket Get 1 Free!

This is a pretty sweet offer from Empire Theatres! All you need is a cellphone, and a willingness to go to the cinema! You can get a free 2 for 1 admission coupon for your next visit to Empire Theatres.

How to get it: text BOGO to EMPIRE (367473)

They will reply with a link in a message. You click the link, it shows a barcode on your screen, which can be scanned at the cinema, giving you 2 tickets for the price of 1!

Your cellphone needs to be able to access the internet, in order to take advantage of this offer – but I think most phones do this anyway, nowadays.  I saw one complaint on another forum that someone got an error as the screen on their phone wouldn’t accept the barcode due to the screen size, but I guess you don’t really know until you try.

Coupons expire Thursday, November 12, 2009. Only one coupon per mobile device during this promotion period.

Canadian Deals: Empire Theatres Student Combo Offer!

Posted by on February 11, 2009 at 10:06 AM

Canadian Deals: Empire Theatres Student Combo Offer!

If you’re a cheapass lazy student, I’ve got an entertaining bargain for you! If you show your valid student card @ Empire Theaters, you can get the bargain-licious deal of a movie ticket, a regular popcorn and a regular pop for only $9.99. Considering the over-extravagant pricing on the concessions stand, this is a pretty nice offer.

And just think – while you’re at it, you could even try sneaking into one of the other showings and watch some other movies for free!? Well, I guess I shouldn’t encourage you to do that. I’m a huge chicken – I’ve never tried that. I don’t want to get arrested just for trying to see some crappy movie that I wouldn’t even pay to see.

A couple I know used to pay into one movie in the morning, and spend the whole day sneaking into movie after movie, perhaps watching 3 or 4 movies that day. I couldn’t do this… I don’t like to miss the start of a movie. In fact, it’s one of my many pet peeves!!! The last movie I missed the start of was “Cloverfield” and I had absolutely no idea what was going on for the rest of the show. Absolutely. No. Idea. Giant. Terrifying. Rampaging. Aliens. No. Idea.

(Valid 7th January – 30th April 2009 in ON, AB, MB, BC)
