Amazon Canada: $20 off Kindle Paperwhite eReader – Now $119

Posted by on August 21, 2014 at 3:00 PM

Amazon Canada: $20 off Kindle Paperwhite eReader Now $119

Purchase the Kindle Paperwhite eReader at Amazon Canada for $20 off. The Paperwhite retails for $139 but is now on sale for $119.

Today’s market presents many difficulties for eReaders. When everyone owns a tablet, laptop, or a smartphone on which you can read books, where is the place for eReaders? The job of companies that build eReaders is to differentiate them from the competition. What makes an eReader different and what makes it better than reading on those other devices.

The main difference is the screen. A tablet or phone is designed to be a multi-media device. They are built with brilliant but highly reflective screens. Have you ever had difficulty reading your phone the second you step outside? I have to turn up the brightness to maximum on my phone before I go outside or else I cannot even see enough to get into my phone to turn the brightness up. With the Kindle Paperwhite screen, this is not an issue. The screen mimics paper and there is no glare in bright light.

Battery life is another defining feature of an eReader versus a tablet. With a tablet, you can expect to charge it every day without fail if you are using it. At best, you can get away with a charge every couple of days. The Paperwhite eReader can go up to eight weeks without charging (Wi-Fi off). I am estimating it has around 30 hours of continual use on one charge.

The Paperwhite also comes with a built in light for late night reading and it stores up to 1,000 books. That is enough to keep you reading for a very long time. Another benefit of an eReader over a tablet is weight. Tablets are getting thinner and lighter with every new version, but they have not managed to reach a mere 206 grams, which is the weight of the Kindle Paperwhite.

The Kindle Paperwhite 3G is also on sale from $209 down to $189. It has all the same features as the above eReader and it comes with built in 3G. It also weighs a tad bit more at 215 grams.

I am still in love with physical books, but I do hate the space they take up. One day I might just have to change over to an eReader (maybe when they improve their graphic novel section).

NCIX Canada: Microsoft Lifecam only $5 with Free Shipping (Was $40)

Posted by on August 18, 2014 at 5:30 PM

NCIX Canada: Microsoft Lifecam only $5 with Free Shipping (Was $40)

In case you missed the Mooseletter this morning, I wanted to draw special attention to this sweet little deal on a Microsoft Lifecam VX-800 0.31MP USB 2.0 Webcam with Integrated Microphone. Originally $39.99, the little webcam is now on sale for $5 with free shipping.

The fine print underneath says:

HURRY! Only 205 left at this price! This special price will be applied ONLY after you complete your order, and will be processed in the order that they were received.

Now, that sort of does not make sense to me since the $5 price shows in my cart. As the $5 is the special price, then it is sort of being applied before I complete my order too, right? Or am I completely lost here?

Why I mention that little quote is more for the numerical value. As of the time I am posting this, there are approximately 200 units still available before they jack the price.

This unit is a basic webcam with microphone. If you are looking for HD quality or amazing vocal quality, then you are totally looking at the wrong unit. However, if you want something to cover your basics for the cottage, the dorm, or for your grandparents who do not know a webcam from a hole in a wall, then this is the cam for you. As this reviewer said:

For a microsoft product at $40, knowing how it performs, I would never pay that kind of money. This camera should be sold for $20, maximum. I actually picked this up with my NCIX points for my parents. Glad I did. If you are looking for HD, look away, if you are looking for something to do the job with basic MIC quality, pick this baby up when it’s on special.

Well, you do not even have to pay $20. You get to pay $5. That is it. Pretty sweet, eh?

While most laptops come equip with webcams, this is one of those things I would be tempted to get my mother. She put tape over her webcam because of some scare that people could tap into your webcam and be watching everything you do. Well, the adhesive will not come off the lens now, so when I try to Skype with my parents I just get a blur. I think they need a new webcam and this would work just fine for a fiver.

Casio 76-Key Electric Keyboard Was $250 Now $170 @ Best Buy Canada!

Posted by on August 18, 2014 at 6:00 AM

Casio 76 Key Electric Keyboard Was $250 Now $170 @ Best Buy Canada!

Best Buy is offering the gift of music for only $169.99! The Casio 76-Key Electric Keyboard has been marked down from $249.99 to $169.99, that’s a savings of $80! Best Buy was even kind enough to throw in free shipping. The sale ends August 21, 2014 so act fast!

There are other sites offering the same keyboard, but no one has it on sale close to this price. Future Shop has it currently at $249.99, Amazon is offering it at $299.95, and even Casio’s own website has the keyboard at $449,99. If Casio thinks it’s worth $450 and Best Buy now has it at $170, that’s over 60% off what the retailer feels it’s worth. Now that’s a great deal.

The Casio 76-Key Keyboard has a piano style keyboard and uses Casio’s Touch Response technology for a realistic feel. It also comes with 700 built-in tones and ten user tones. Add that to the 32-channel mixer and there’s nothing you can’t create. Especially when you realize that the keyboard offers 210 different pre-set rhythms from a wide range of genres. Then, just select the Auto Accompaniment feature and the keyboard provides you with backup music that’s almost like having your own professional band in your very own home. The keyboard also features the Rhythm Editor, which allows you to combine instruments, turn certain instruments on or off, and adjust the volume, pan, reverb as well as other parameters to create original rhythms. Once you’re done creating your new hit single you can use an SD memory card, connect to your computer and fine-tune your masterpiece.  This keyboard is incredibly user friendly, regardless of experience.

The Casio 76-key Electric Keyboard boasts positive reviews as well as customer satisfaction. Whether you’re looking to learn, reconnect with your passion, or you’re on your way to becoming the next great superstar, at $169.99 the Casio 76-Key Electric Keyboard is a fantastic fit! That, plus free shipping, is music to our ears.

The deal expires August 21, 2014 but at the time of this posting there were only 21 left.

HP Photosmart Wireless All-In-One Inkjet Printer Only $40 & Free Shipping @ BestBuy / FutureShop

Posted by on August 16, 2014 at 2:00 PM

HP Photosmart Wireless All In One Inkjet Printer Only $40 & Free Shipping @ BestBuy / FutureShop

If you are in need of a new inexpensive printer, this HP model from either FutureShop or BestBuy might fit the bill. It’s a deal on the HP PS6520 Photosmart Wireless All-In-One Inkjet Printer. The regular price is $149.99 but you can pick it up right now for only $39.99 with free shipping, from either store.

Price comparison wise, this particular model of printer doesn’t seem to be available from any other retailers, it seems to be an exclusive to the BestBuy and Futureshop stores. The price speaks for itself really.

Now, even though this is a great price on an HP printer, I will say that it’s probably not going to last you a lifetime. It’s an entry-level HP printer, and quite a basic model. There are a number of reviews on Futureshop from various people and they’re a little mixed, with the printer only receiving a score of just over two out of five. You can read the full reviews on the Futureshop link above, but there are big variations.

Photos come out amazing!

The black head no longer prints even though the ink level is full.

That latter comment seemed to be a concern from a few people. The HP PS6520 Photosmart Wireless All-In-One Inkjet Printer gets a slightly higher score on BestBuy, with comments such as, “Great all-around printer.” However, one customer stated:

For the cost of this ink, you could buy a brand new printer every time your cartridges run out.

This is definitely something to consider… and really a worrying trend to be honest. Electronics like this seem to be so disposable nowadays that people consider just buying a new printer instead of replacement ink!

Obviously you’ve got a full year’s warranty on the HP printer so if anything happens in that time, you’d be covered. But remember, you’re not paying a fortune for this item, so if anything goes wrong a couple of years down the line, you’re not too much out of pocket. It’s a great price to start with.

Azio Levetron GM2000 Gaming Mouse Only $17.99 & Free Shipping @ NCIX Canada

Posted by on August 14, 2014 at 3:00 PM

Azio Levetron GM2000 Gaming Mouse Only $17.99 & Free Shipping @ NCIX Canada

You’re going to have to move fast if you want to grab this deal for the Azio Levetron GM200 Gaming Mouse! NCIX.com is offering this top of the line gaming mouse for $17.99 (Regular $49.99. That’s $32 off!) with FREE ground shipping.

Now other sites are offering the same mouse for $19.99; the only difference is you have to pay for shipping, whereas with NCIX.com, the offer is slightly cheaper at $17.99 and the shipping is for free. The free ground shipping is what really helps this deal be such a steal. For just $17.99 you’re getting a top of the line gaming mouse for a fraction of the cost.

The Azio Levetron GM200 Gaming Mouse is the Ferrari of the gaming mouse world. It has six buttons. That’s right. Six buttons. Including your standard right and left click buttons, a mouse wheel, the innovative DPI button, as well as a forward and a back button for added web surfing/gaming convenience. The DPI button allows the user to switch from 800-, 1600-, and 2000 DPI on the fly with a simple click of the button. Now for those of you who aren’t familiar with DPI, don’t worry neither were we, DPI stands for Dots Per Inch, which is a measurement of mouse sensitivity. The higher the DPI allows the gamer to move the mouse cursor further on the screen with less mouse movement. It also allows the user greater ability to pinpoint places on the screen more accurately.

Now these features won’t necessarily enhance your ability to enjoy Wikipedia or Facebook but for the avid gamer these perks allow for greater control and a higher and more competitive level of game play. Then again, this mouse could help increase the speed and ease of clicking on the great deals here on Barginmoose. There’s only one way to find out.

The Azio Levetron GM200 Gaming Mouse has a really high positive review and customer satisfaction score. However, the mouse’s ergonomic design was crafted for the right-handed user in mind, so please be aware that this mouse is NOT lefty friendly. Haters gonna hate. But for those who can enjoy this mouse, should enjoy this mouse and click quick to make sure you can grab one before they’re gone.

The Call of Duty video game franchise is one of the best selling and beloved series of games out there. In fact you’d be hard pressed to find a more devoted group of gaming fans. So it’s only natural that these fans take their Call of Duty very seriously. That’s what makes this deal so great! Now we know what you might be thinking, “First off, that’s an excessively long product name. And secondly, that seems a little steep for video game headphones.” Well, they’re regularly priced at $299.99 so at $99.99, that’s a 67% saving.

Here are the online prices at other well-known retailers:

Fuji Instax 210 Instant Camera $59.99 & Free Shipping @ Amazon.ca

Posted by on August 12, 2014 at 3:56 PM

Fuji Instax 210 Instant Camera $59.99 & Free Shipping @ Amazon.ca

You probably have to be quick if you want to take advantage of this offer on Amazon.ca, it could sell out at any time. They are selling the Fuji Instax 210 Instant Camera at a $40 discount, now only $59.99 with free super saver shipping!

The original price of this camera was $99.99, it’s now $59.99 – that’s a great price.

You may think that from the photo above, it’s a pretty weird looking camera. Well, that’s what I thought! I actually thought it was a digital camera at first… but nope, it’s an instant!

Here’s a quick note about the Fuji camera:

With its automatically-adjusting flash, high-resolution retracting lens and a big, clear viewfinder, the Fujifilm Instax 210 captures and delivers vivid, high-quality prints in an instant. The compatible Instax Instant Color Film is professional grade and provides superior performance.

Obviously over the long-term, the film for this camera is going to be quite an expense… but if you really would like the “novelty” of taking a photo and seeing it printed out instantly, then it’s worth it for this price.

Price comparison wise, this is a superb price on Amazon. Most other Canadian online sites are offering this camera for around $100. I did find it for a similar price at MemoryExpress but shipping was a further $9, or more depending on where you live. As Amazon has free shipping, it’s the superior deal.

ADATA Dash Drive Elite 64GB for $38.78 & Free Shipping @ MemoryHouse Canada

Posted by on August 9, 2014 at 11:00 AM

ADATA Dash Drive Elite 64GB for $38.78 & Free Shipping @ MemoryHouse Canada

If you are in need of some more portable electronic storage for all your files and photos, consider the deal on this 64GB ADATA Dash Drive Elite which is currently on special offer rat Memory House Canada. While the regular price is not stated on MemoryHouse’s page, the RRP is around $70. And just now, you can get it for only $38.78 with free shipping to your home.

We’ve not mentioned Memory House on Bargainmoose before. They’re an electronics retailer (actually a memory specialist) based out of Richmond, BC.

This is the actual name of this item: The ADATA Dash Drive Elite 64GB USB 3.0 200MB/SEC Read 100MB/SEC Write. And again, my brain doesn’t seem to want to blog very much today, so I asked my partner for some words with his opinion on this Adata pen drive. He said:

That’s a great deal for an extremely high capacity pen drive… what are those other features? Is that a lock on it?

He was looking at the little slider button you can see in the image above. It’s not actually a lock as such, it’s a slider which lets the URB attachment move in and out of the drive housing, protecting it from any potential damage.

Oh, if it’s USB 3.0, that’s very good. It’s got reasonably high read and write speeds too. That’s especially useful for such a high capacity pen drive, the equivalent of a half dozen DVDs!

Furthermore, when referring to the read/write speeds, one reviewer stated:

That’s very good. It’s faster than 99% of the USB 3.0 flash drives out there and it’s affordable. 64GB is more than enough to backup your HD media.

Sounds good!

Price Comparing!

When I decided to write this deal, I initially was writing it up as a deal from NCIX. They were offering this item for $39.99 with free shipping. But in my price comparing work, I found it cheaper elsewhere.

For a price comparison on this Adata drive, this isn’t available at many other stores. I did find it at Best Direct Canada at a price of $38.09, but shipping was an extra $6 to Ontario, bringing the price up to around $44.

So, while there’s not a huge step up to the next best price at NCIX, this deals at Memory House is a really low price point for such a high capacity and speedy pen drive.

HP Canada Coupon Code: 30% Off Batteries & AC Adapters

HP Canada Coupon Code: 30% Off Batteries & AC Adapters

Use the code below to save 30% off all batteries and AC adapters at HP.com during just one week.

Click here to get batteries & AC adapters @ HP.com

  • Coupon Code: POWER30
  • Discount: 30% off
  • Expiry: 17th August 2014

When I was in school, there was nothing worse than getting to class late, only to have the worse seat with no plug around. Or if there was a plug, then to have it taken it up by other early birds. In hindsight, I should have just saved myself the trouble at the time by investing in a spare battery.

As this is a pretty specific kind of deal and really depends on your laptop and the required battery, I tested the coupon on the HP MU09 life notebook battery. It’s $139.99 at HP.com and comes down to $98 at checkout. Searching around the web, I found this same battery for the following prices:

  • $129.36 @ Staples (out of stock)
  • $137.12 @ Amazon.ca (with a regular price of $143.83)

In any case, I definitely suggest that you price compare first before ordering. To do so, simply type the name of your battery or AC adapter model into Google and see where it’s the cheapest.

Personally, I bought my laptop recently and don’t particularly need a new battery but I’m definitely tempted to get one for those emergency kind of situations. You just never know when the power might go out (especially with our crazy Canadian winters) or how far the plug can be whilst out and about or travelling. The fact that batteries can be so easily replaced on Windows laptops is also one of the main reasons why I switched from a Macbook back to a windows laptop. If anything happens, it’s just far more convenient to be able to take out the battery. For instance, if you happen to drop a glass off water on the table next to your laptop, all you need to do is take out the battery, place everything in a bag filled with rice, wait a couple of days and voila, the laptop should work again. Why? Because rice absorbs the moisture. The same can be done with cell phones or any other electronic with a removable battery.

Plus, you won’t have to worry about shipping as the HP Store automatically ships all orders for free.

Sony Canada: Smartphone Attachable Camera $199.99 ($50 Off)

Posted by on August 3, 2014 at 4:00 PM

Sony Canada: Smartphone Attachable Camera $199.99 ($50 Off)

The coolest gadget possible is now on sale at Sony Canada. Hop on over to Sony to observe the Sony Smartphone Attachable Camera that is on sale for $199.99, down from $249.99.

This ‘camera’ will almost turn your smart phone into a DSLR camera. The Sony camera can be used attached to your smart phone, which is easy given little flip up support clips. You can also hold it in your hand without physically attaching it to your camera. That way you can be watching what you are going to take a picture of on your smart phone screen while holding the lens at whatever angle you need for the best shot. The smartphone and lens communicate wirelessly via Wi-Fi, and there will be an application to install on your phone to give you full control over the Sony camera portion. You can also edit and share photos instantly online via the application. Your images can be saved on both the camera and on your phone. The iAuto function automatically adjusts settings on the camera based on shot conditions and there is a sensor for low-light conditions as well.

The Sony camera features a 10x zoom and 18MP quality photos. High quality video is also possible with the Sony camera, as it will shoot 1080/30p HD video with low grain.

This Sony Attachable Camera is, frankly, the camera of the future. With everyone using their smart phone for taking pictures these days, actual cameras are becoming outdated. Even DSLR cameras are being left at home in favour of the convenience of something that fits in your pocket. The Sony attachable camera fits in your pocket (as long as you are not wearing skinny jeans). It is easy to carry and just throw in your bag. It pairs wirelessly with your smart phone and can turn a mediocre photo into an amazing photo in seconds. I went into a Sony Store and saw this attachable camera demoed on my own smart phone: I wanted one right then and there. My husband had to drag me out of the store so I did not buy one that second all the while reminding me I already own a DSLR. I might just sell my big DSLR camera and buy this Sony smartphone attachable camera instead.

Sony Canada offers free shipping on all orders.

The Source Canada: $120 Off Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit Smartwatch – Now $100

Posted by on August 2, 2014 at 11:00 PM

The Source Canada: $120 Off Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit Smartwatch Now $100

Get with the times and get the Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit smartwatch for a $120 discount at The Source. Instead of its regular price of $219.99, it can be yours for just $99.99!

  • 1.63″ super AMOLED screen
  • Dust & weather resistant
  • Alarm notifications for messages, e-mails, phone calls etc.

It also comes with the required lithium ion battery, which is then rechargeable with the Samsung charger that is included. The watch also comes with a charging cradle, which should be perfect for placing on the night stand or anywhere else in the house.

Even cooler is that you can actually also place and accept calls with the watch. Although my initial reaction was to think that this would be useful for individuals in a work setting, I actually do think it could also be useful for just about anyone, but especially moms and dads who are constantly on the go. There is nothing more challenging than trying to located your phone amongst a pile of dirty laundry or with hands full of groceries.

Gear Fit only alerts you to calls. You must take the call on the phone. Can also reject calls from the Gear Fit. Pretty much just alerts or notifies you, so you don’t need to dig for your phone everytime.

I constantly misplace my phone, so the fact that this watch could alert me when I’m out of range of it is definitely a nice feature to have.

Price Comparison

The only other place I found this watch is at B&H Photo Video for $149.95 along with duties and customs as it would ship from the US.

As for the Samsung Gear 2 smart watch, the next model in the series, the cheapest I have found it anywhere else is at Amazon, where it’s on sale for $164.99 from a regular retail price of $249.99. Both Best Buy and Future Shop also have this smartwatch for $199.95. If you’re wondering which watch to get, then Mike Plant’s “Gear 2 versus Gear Fit – which is the top gear?” should be helpful. Essentially, it really comes down to what you’re looking for. While both watches can be used for fitness, the Gear 2 has additional features like a camera and voice recognition, though personally, I would never see myself using the former as I prefer to use my iPhone’s better camera.

Shipping is at a flat rate o $4.99 per order but to avoid this charge, you can have your order shipped to your local The Source store for free instead.

Sphero Robotic Ball Only $70 & Free Shipping @ Newegg.ca

Posted by on August 2, 2014 at 12:00 PM

Sphero Robotic Ball Only $70 & Free Shipping @ Newegg.ca

Newegg sent me a link to this item on their site, which appears to be a very good deal – so I thought I’d let you guys know about it too. I’ve never seen a Sphero Robotic Ball, it’s an interesting product! Regularly priced at $219.99 (?), you can pick it up for only $69.96 with free shipping from the Newegg marketplace right now.

The item is on Newegg marketplace, and it’s sold via Shoptronics. That’s a brand we’ve also mentioned here on Bargainmoose too.

But what does it do!? The Sphero is a robotic gamaing system which is compatible with iOS & Android. It’s not just a ball that changes colours! There a few games built in, as well as some augmented reality games.

This Sphero Robotic Ball works with the following devices as long as they have ios 4 or greater: iPad, iPad 2, iPod Touch (3 & 4) and iPhone (3GS, 4, 4S, 5). It also works with Android Marketplace Android devices with operating system 2 & 2.2.

Price Comparison

Prices elsewhere in ascending order: $93 @ Amazon, $95 @ Shop.ca, $100 @ The Source. Just note that the Sphero 2 is now out and available. If you’re searching and price comparing yourself, note that the second edition may come up in your searches too. So therefore, this price from the Newegg Marketplace is pretty great, coming in at 25% less than the next price up.

Video Review

Here’s a little review I found on Youtube if you want to have a watch:

The guy above shows you some of the things you can do and some of the games which you can play on the Sphero.Check out the zombie game! The Sphero looks really cool, I’d imagine my four year old daughter would love this.  Actually, now that I come to think of it, my 39 year old partner would also love it. Sony Portable Wireless Speaker System Was $100 Now Only $53 + Shipping @ MyOutletStore

We’ve posted a couple of deals from MyOutletStore in the last week, they’re the fairly newly launched website in the Cardswap family and they sell a range of items, from fashion to electronics. I was browsing round this morning, doing a bit of price comparing, and I came across the deal on this Sony SRSBTM8B Portable Wireless Speaker System. Originally $99.99, My Outlet Store is offering this Sony speaker for only $59 plus you can save an extra 10% on this with a coupon code bringing it down to only $53.10 plus shipping.

Once you’ve got the Sony speaker in your shopping cart and you are going through checkout, use the MOutletStore coupon code CardSwap to get an extra 10% off the marked price

Description & Features

  • NFC compatible portable wireless speaker; connect via bluetooth
  • Device uses 4 ‘AA’ batteries with approx. 20 hours playback potential
  • Output: 2 W x 2
  • Dimensions: W245mm x H185mm x D88mm

It’s a very stylish looking Sony device, I love the look of it!

Price Comparing

I’ve done an online price comparison for the Sony SRSBTM8B speaker system. I believe that the price at My Outlet Store is really excellent. The cheapest I can see this model for elsewhere is $79 at Walmart.ca, with many other stores having it at the $99 mark.

When I was price comparing, I noticed that a number of stores were selling a refurbished version of this for around the same price. Obviously you’d be better off with the brand new model rather than the refurbished one… but I wanted to mention it in case you are also price comparing and you see those similar prices – just check the status, whether it is new or a refurb.

Canadian Shipping

As you’re paying the flat-rate $4.95 shipping anyway (which is pretty reasonable), have a browse round and see if there’s anything else you want to pop in your cart. However, when I had two of the above Sony speakers in my cart, shipping reduced to zero – they may have a minimum spend threshold for free shipping.  I think it is $75 – you might be interested in topping your order up to that level. It doesn’t explicitly state the free shipping threshold anywhere on site, but it works in the shopping cart.
