8 Accessories To Make For Your Tablet or Phone

8 Accessories To Make For Your Tablet or Phone

I love my tablet and phone, but  I do not like paying extra for all of the nifty accessories. While I feel strongly a good case is important to protect my device, I try to limit my accessory purchases. No need to do without those holders and chargers, hack it together instead. Here are some great DIY Accessories for your tablet or phone that you can make much cheaper than buying.

Wood Charging Station

8 Accessories To Make For Your Tablet or Phone

This unique handmade docking station will look super chic in your house, or is fancy enough to give it as a gift. Check out this hack from Scarlett Words to create a simple charging station from a slice of wood and a lightning cable. A handmade docking station like this one would run $50-$80. This hack could easily be adapted to charge any device. Attach a small portable speaker and you can also jam to all your favourite tunes.

Tablet Holder For Your Kitchen

8 Accessories To Make For Your Tablet or Phone

I do not use paper recipes very often anymore. I am always consulting my tablet or phone for new recipes to use in the kitchen. Check out this solution to spilling the flour on your iPad from Mamie Jane’s. This beautiful tablet holder made from an upcycled wood cutting board, a child’s block, and a scrabble tile holder is just my style. Beautiful and chic, no one will know you made it yourself instead of spending $40-$50 on a similar holder.

Bling Case

8 Accessories To Make For Your Tablet or Phone

Love the look of a case covered in bling? I hate that $25-$50 price tag that usually goes with it. Use the tutorial at Crafting Rebellion instead to create a super shiny case on a budget. Pick up a less expensive case at the dollar store and let your glue and jewels do the magic.

Touchscreen Compatible Gloves

8 Accessories To Make For Your Tablet or Phone

Picture this, you are out in the snow and something funny happens. You whip out your phone and your hands freeze as you try to snap the perfect shot. Rewind that scenario and turn your favourite gloves into tech gloves with this cool hack from natalme on Blogher. With a needle, metallic thread and your favourite pair of gloves, in just a few minutes you can make any gloves touch screen responsive. This blogger suggests special conductive wire, but it is possible to use any conductive metallic thread. Test the thread in a shop by holding one end of the skein while brushing the other end on your phone to see if it responds. A cheap pair of super thin gadget gloves will cost about $10-$15. A nicer pair that will keep your hands warm all winter can easily cost $40-$80.

Tablet Mount For The Car Headrest

8 Accessories To Make For Your Tablet or Phone

Blackcabbit has a great solution to turn your iPad or other tabler into a movie theater for your kids on long trips. Using some elastic and a few other small items, this dad creates an entertainment system that stays put. This is perfect if your kid falls asleep during movies on car rides. Most commercial headrest mounts range from $25-$40. I made a similar mount for my daughter before our last road trip and it worked perfectly.

Trick Out Your Earmuffs

8 Accessories To Make For Your Tablet or Phone

If you spend some time commuting in the cold, you need to make these tricked out earmuff headphones from Brit+Co. These earmuffs do require some basic sewing skills, but even a novice sewer like me should be able to complete these. Make yourself a pair in any style instead of splurging for a $20-$65 pair.

Project Photos and Videos On Your Wall

8 Accessories To Make For Your Tablet or Phone

I can remember sitting down in my grandfather’s living room while he proudly showed off his slides from years ago. Impress your friends without a pricey digital projector by displaying your photos on the wall. This projector from Photojojo will only cost you a single dollar. While the image may not be perfectly clear, a crisp digital projector will cost you $75-$200. Project movies on the wall for a fun movie night.

No Sew Phone or MP3 Player Holder For Running

8 Accessories To Make For Your Tablet or Phone

I love those armbands for running that securely hold my device while exercising. Each one can easily cost $30 and I am a fickle about keeping up my exercise program, so I am always hesitant to buy them. Enter this creative no-sew arm holder from Wonder How To. With a placemat, some strong glue and two hair ties you can make your own quick holder. For a more adjustable version, make the armband a little longer and add some velcro strips.

Bargainmoosers, what tech accessories would you love to have?

Seagate Expansion 2TB Portable External Hard Drive Was $176 | Now $89 & Free Shipping @ Amazon.ca (Expired)

Posted by on February 26, 2015 at 9:48 AM

Seagate Expansion 2TB Portable External Hard Drive Was $176 | Now $89 & Free Shipping @ Amazon.ca (Expired)

Back up those files on your hard drive with the Seagate 2TB Portable External Hard Drive. This drive was $175.99, but you can grab it now at only $88.99. Free super saver shipping is included with this deal.

Amazon is having a nice little deal to help you be organized and keep it all together. This seems convenient at a time when everyone is starting their taxes and is looking in a little more detail than normal into their electronic records. Back up your hard drive with the Seagate Expansion 2TB external hard drive. This is a great time to sort those files and get organized.

This portable device has 3.0 USB technology to help you move files quickly back and forth between your main machine and your backup. If your hard drive is clogged with media, you can free up some space with this portable drive. This drive will store 480,000 pictures or 362 dvds that are two hours each. This little drive is pretty powerful for a basic backup.

You do not have to be super technologically savvy to use this drive. The whole system is plug and play, and files can be dragged and dropped onto this hard drive. This might be a great option for my father in law, as we prefer things to be simpler when offering tech support to him through Skype. I have personally owned a Seagate external hard drive in the past, and it was super simple to use.

This drive has four and a half stars out of five with over 100 reviews. Here is one reviewer who is very happy with this external drive.

Seagate Expansion 2TB Portable External Hard Drive Was $176 | Now $89 & Free Shipping @ Amazon.ca (Expired)

Sounds like this drive will be quick and easy for almost anyone to use.

Futureshop.ca has the best deal on this hard drive among the competitors, pricing it at $100.89. You could buy this hard drive from Dell and pay $104.99. You could choose to pick this up at Tiger Direct Canada but you would pay $109.97. BestBuy.ca has this for $110.89. These prices are all pretty close, but Amazon beats them all.

You could also go for the other deal available at Amazon, which is the 1TB drive, now only $64.99 with a regular price of $89.99. Just click to 1TB to see that deal. Obviously the 500GB deal is not great as the price is more than what it is for the 1TB.

Pick this up today folks. This is an Amazon deal of the day, so if you wait the deal will be gone. This is a great price for a little bit of extra storage and a lot of peace of mind. Even better, you can start the new year with a fresh clean hard drive for pictures, movies, taxes and all your important files.

Future Shop: Microsoft All-In-One Wireless Keyboard Was $50 | Now $30 & Free Shipping

Posted by on February 25, 2015 at 2:00 PM

Future Shop: Microsoft All In One Wireless Keyboard Was $50 | Now $30 & Free Shipping

Future Shop has discounted the Microsoft All-In-One Wireless Media Keyboard (N9Z-00002) from $49.99 down to $29.99. As orders of $25 or more qualify for free shipping at Future Shop, this keyboard will ship for free.

This is the English version of the keyboard. I price compared this unit with a few online retailers. Here is what the competition is selling this wireless all-in-one keyboard for:

  • $49.99 @ Best Buy Canada
  • $32.99 + shipping @ NCIX.com
  • $49.95 @ Walmart Canada
  • $49.99 @ Staples Canada
  • $39.99 + $7.60 shipping @ Newegg.ca
  • $49.95 @ Microsoft Store Canada

I did find the French version of this keyboard on sale at Amazon.ca for $29.99. However, the English version was sold out at Amazon and only available for $45 plus shipping from secondary marketplace sellers.

If I ever get a desktop computer again, I will be buying this keyboard pronto. The Microsoft media keyboard is compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 8. With the all-in-one design, everything you need is built into the keyboard – there is no need for an external mouse.

The Microsoft keyboard has a full-size keyset and an integrated multi-touch trackpad. On the multi-touch pad, you can swipe, drag, zoom, and click. It is like the trackpad on a laptop, but this time it is built into a keyboard. Moreover, the keyboard is wireless for ultimate transportability. It also has customizable media hotkeys. At a simple key stroke, you can access the web, favourite music, photos, and more.

Are you worried about durability? Well, Microsoft says that the keyboard is strong enough to withstand a few bumps, drops, and spills. One reviewer said:

For the price it was an exceptional purchase & works great for tv projection. Perfect for everyday use, batteries last a lot longer than I thought they would and the spill proof design makes durability a bonus

This keyboard is brilliant and I would love to use it with a desktop computer hooked up to my television. The television would be the monitor and this keyboard would act as both my keyboard and mouse. There would be no need for an extra external mouse.

Now, if they keyboard is not exactly what you are looking for, check out the Logitech Wireless Touch Keyboard (K400) also on sale from $49.99 down to $29.99. It is also a good option and an excellent price as well.

Today Only: 50% Off Fujita Xtreme HD Lite Sports Waterproof Camera @ The Source – Now $60 (Expired)

Posted by on February 25, 2015 at 11:00 AM

Today Only: 50% Off Fujita Xtreme HD Lite Sports Waterproof Camera @ The Source Now $60 (Expired)

Want another way to capture your life? The Fujita Xtreme HD lite sports camera is on sale for just $59.99 today only at The Source. It was originally priced at $119.99, which puts it at a $60 discount (50% off).

A friend of mine recently mentioned to me that he has been looking into getting a GoPro camera but that his budget just wouldn’t allow it. Those cameras are extremely popular at the moment and with due reason but shelling out a couple of hundreds on one just isn’t possible for everyone.

The Fujita action camera is definitely a great compromise, especially if you take advantage of today’s sale to get it for 50% off. Here’s a quick round-up of its specs:

  • 720p, 30 fps & 5MP
  • Mountable to a helmet, dashboard or bike handle bar
  • Waterproof up to 33′

It’s also very easy to use as all you need to do is press one button to operate it. At The source, there are 9 reviews for it and a total of 4/5 stars, which is quite surprising for an affordable action camera like this one that won’t break the bank. Here’s what one reviewer had to say about it:

Calling this “a poor man’s GoPro” doesn’t come close to doing it justice. This thing shoots absolutely crystal clear video at almost any distance, even right up close. (Think “a few inches.”) My only gripe would be the sound; there’s a tiny pinhole in the back through which sound reaches the built-in condenser microphone, and even when I’m only a few feet from someone, you can barely hear their voice at all, and even mine is somewhat muted. Still, this camcorder represents GREAT value for the money, even at full price.

As for the sound, it can definitely be a hit or miss in that department. Even for a highly reputed action like the GoPro, you could have sound that’s not 100% clear depending on the activity you are performing and the weather outside.

Shipping

With regards to shipping, a $4.99 standard fee will apply at checkout but make sure to enter The Source coupon code TS4411 before you check out to get free shipping. Alternatively, you could also have your order shipped to your local The Source store for free.

NCIX.com: Sony Wi-Fi 3D 4K Blu-ray Player Now $109 & Free Shipping (Expired)

Posted by on February 22, 2015 at 5:39 PM

NCIX.com: Sony Wi Fi 3D 4K Blu ray Player Now $109 & Free Shipping (Expired)

NCIX.com has discounted the deluxe Sony BDPS6200 4K 3D Blu-Ray Player w/ WiFi from $179.99 down to $109. Use NCIX coupon code ZEROSHIPPING to receive free shipping on the Blu-Ray player as well.

If you are looking for a dedicated Blu-Ray player, then give this fully loaded player your attention. Sony’s Blu-Ray player features a dual-core processor for faster performance. 4K upscaling lets you stream over 200 services and the FULL HD 1080p playback allows 2D to 3D conversion. With Miracast you can mirror your mobile device through the player onto your TV. The player features USB slots so you can view your photos or listen to music through the player as well. You can also stream video, music, and videos with DLNA. Now, if you have other Sony devices, you are in luck. You can “throw” media like music and photos from a Sony Xperia Tablet.

I price compared this unit with other retails, and here is what the competitors are selling the Sony BDPS6200 4K 3D Blu-Ray Player w/ Wi-Fi for:

  • $139.99 @ Future Shop Canada
  • $139.99 @ Best Buy Canada
  • $149.99 @ Sony Store Canada

As you can see, NCIX.com has the best price (though their original price is a bit high). I checked this device out on TrustedReviews where it rates a 9/10. They list the pros as distinctive design, plentiful features, strong pictures, and fast operation. They also mention a few cons, namely plasticky bodywork, no ITV Player or 4OD, and sparse connectivity. They also mentioned a benefit I did not even think about:

One of the main reasons people snap up Blu-ray decks (aside from watching Blu-ray movies) is to take advantage of built-in internet apps, and on that score Sony has long been one of the best in the business.

Sony is certainly one of the forerunners in that game, so this Blu-Ray player looks like a solid investment. With internet connectivity, streaming, 4K, and 3D capabilities – you will certainly have access to all your media in vivid colour with this device.

While the coupon code for free shipping on $50 or more is good until the end of March, I do not know when the Sony Wi-Fi 3D 4K Blu-ray Player will increase in price.

Amazon.ca: Supertooth Disco 3 Speaker Was $80 | Now $20 (FS @ $25) *HOT* (EXPIRED)

Posted by on February 22, 2015 at 4:41 PM

Amazon.ca: Supertooth Disco 3 Speaker Was $80 | Now $20 (FS @ $25) *HOT* (EXPIRED)

Amazon Canada has discounted the tower design Supertooth Disco 3 Stereo Speakers from $79.98 down to $19.86. This speaker is only available in navy.

The last time I blogged about this speaker, it was on sale for $49.99 at The Source Canada. Well, now you can purchase the Supertooth Disco for 75% off the original retail price. Here is what other retailers are currently selling this speaker for:

  • $39.99 @ Future Shop Canada (select colours)
  • $79.99 @ Staples Canada
  • $79.99 @ The Source Canada

Future Shop also has these speakers on sale for a good deal, but not quite as good as Amazon. All the other companies I checked had the speakers for full price. These speakers are available in many colours across various retailers, but I could only find the navy colour at Amazon.

As i have mentioned before, The Supertooth Disco 3 comes equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 with 12 Watts RMS. The front has two speakers and there is a bass system on the back of the Disco 3 speaker. Stream your music to the device wirelessly via Bluetooth and enjoy hours of music. The battery is rechargeable and will provide hours of use before needing to be charged. The small LED is a charge indicator so you know when your device is running low on battery power. You will also find a 3.5mm AUX in port for any MP3 players that are not compatible with Bluetooth.

Now, you may wonder why you need this speaker and what sets it apart from all other speakers. I think this review from RoundReviews UK will help answer that question:

Overall it performs well in all areas and with a nice range of colours to choose from it’ll appeal to most people. The battery life of this device is also something to point out as its very impressive lasting up to 15 hours on a medium volume.
Did you read that? You can get up to 15 hours of playtime out of this device before recharging. My small rechargeable speaker gives me about eight hours and my Sony SRS-X5 is good for about six hours. Most speakers max out around eight to ten hours of playtime so this is incredible!

Receive free shipping on orders of $25 or more at Amazon Canada.

Amazon Canada: $80 Off WD My Book 6TB 3.0 Hard Drive – Now $250 & Free Shipping

Posted by on February 19, 2015 at 6:30 PM

Amazon Canada: $80 Off WD My Book 6TB 3.0 Hard Drive Now $250 & Free Shipping

Want the most extra space possible? The WD My Book 6TB 3.0 hard drive is currently on sale for just $249.99 at Amazon, down from a $329.99 price tag. It also qualifies for absolutely free shipping, so you won’t have to worry about any extra fees.

This WD My Book hard drive has a storage capacity of up to 6TB, which is the equivalent of 6000 GB or more precisely: a ton of movies and TV shows!

Such a large capacity hard drive isn’t just for graphic designers or professionals in general as it can be used to store entertainment files and whatever else you want to keep off your computer without worrying about running out of space.

It also comes with complete backup with WD SmartWare Pro software, so you can rest assured that your files will be safe no matter what. There’s nothing worse than storing all your files in one place, only to lose it all due to an accident or a simple malfunction.

Reviews

Short and to the point, here’s the one and only review on this hard drive:

Shipped fast and works great.

At Newegg, there are only four review and all of them rated this hard drive 5/5 stars with comments like this one:

Even though slow, very useful for dumping large amounts of data for archival / storage purposes. Good for the average user to use for simple video editing and picture / music librarys.

This hard drive boasts a 3.0 connectivity, so I wouldn’t expect this hard drive to be as slow as the reviewer above claims, especially since according to the description on Amazon’s site, it’s supposed to be “ultra-fast”. It really depends on how much data you are looking to dump on it though because if you are storing a couple of gigabytes at a time, then you can definitely expect for it to take a bit more time than if you were transferring just a couple of files.

Price Comparison

Speaking of Newegg, here’s how much this hard drive is going for at other stores:

Amazon Canada: Lexar JumpDrive S73 256GB USB Drive Was $275 | Now $80 & Free Shipping (Expired)

Posted by on February 19, 2015 at 3:45 PM

Amazon Canada: Lexar JumpDrive S73 256GB USB Drive Was $275 | Now $80 & Free Shipping (Expired)

Amazon Canada has a worthwhile deal on the Lexar JumpDrive S73 256GB USB Drive. Originally $275, this massive external flash drive is now on sale for $79.99 with free shipping (as it costs over $25). I would jump on this deal quickly – before it sells out.

Seriously, this price is to die for if you need this sort of tech in your life. Let us go over a quick price comparison so you can see how good this deal really is right now. The exact same Lexar JumpDrive S73 256GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive retails for:

  • $249.99 @ Future Shop Canada
  • $249.99 @ Best Buy Canada
  • $229.92 @ Staples Canada
  • $183.65 + shipping @ HookBag Canada

As you can easily see, this price is virtually unheard of at other retailers. I even looked in our blog archives and found this Lexar 256 GB drive was on sale once for $110 at Best Buy.

Now, we all know you can get a 1 TB external hard drive for around $70 these days, but this is a very different kind of storage. You cannot fit an external hard drive in your back or front pocket. You cannot easily take it to meetings and produce charts, data, photos, and video at the touch of a button. External hard drives are just not that portable – especially any that require external power.

With the 256 GB flash drive, you have space at your fingertips. Merely insert the device into the USB station on any computer for instant access to the documents you need. These are perfect for travelling, excellent for photographers, and can even be used to transfer data from one computer to another. Load the flash drive up with pictures and transfer them onto the grandparent’s computer the next time you see them. The options are endless.

This is supposed to be a 3.0 speed flash drive, but a few reviewers have said they could not get up to that speed. Besides that complaint, most other reviewers quite love the little drive:

I bought this terrific USB flash drive to store my collected photos and videos. It has large capacity and very fast speed whatever for reading or writing. It’s also light, stable and convenient to use. I am very satisfied with this item.

I suggest you read a few more reviews to make sure this is the right size of drive for you.

Microsoft Store: Up to 49% Off Nokia Lumia Accessory Bundles – Now $45 & Free Shipping

Posted by on February 18, 2015 at 4:00 PM

Microsoft Store: Up to 49% Off Nokia Lumia Accessory Bundles Now $45 & Free Shipping

If you scored a sale Nokia Lumia approximately a month ago, then you will want to purchase the Nokia Lumia Accessory Value Bundle for up to 49% off regular price. Choose an accessories pack for four different Nokia Lumia models. All orders receive free shipping.

Each bundle includes a case or cover, and a Portable Universal USB Charger. The first accessory keeps your Lumia protected from drops, spills, and those every day events that challenge the longevity of our electronics. The second accessory keeps your Lumia alive longer.

There are four different bundles, and each has a different potential savings:

  • Nokia Lumia 520 Accessory Value Bundle - Save up to $38
  • Nokia Lumia 635 Accessory Value Bundle – Save up to $43
  • Nokia Lumia 830 Accessory Value Bundle – Save up to $41
  • Nokia Lumia 1020 Accessory Value Bundle – Save up to $38

I like highest potential savings, so I chose the bundle for the 635 to try out. When you go to customize your bundle, the cases (and covers) will be presented first and then, under those, you can choose your battery pack. I chose the following two items:

Microsoft Store: Up to 49% Off Nokia Lumia Accessory Bundles Now $45 & Free Shipping

That combination (and a few other colour choices for the portable power bank) will give you the maximum discount of $43 off for this bundle. Now, the Microsoft Portable Power DC-21 currently retails for $49, so you would be foolish to buy the battery pack separately. Even if you do not need the case, it is $4 cheaper to buy the external power charger in the bundle than by itself. You could always give the case away if you do not need it. However, this deal is best when you need and will use both items.

The Microsoft Portable Power is a slim, portable 6000 mAh battery. The average phone can expect to receive two full charges off this sweet little device. I love the colour choices for the battery pack as well – orange, green, or white. There is also a different black battery charger you can choose from, but this one is worth more.

Overall, I think this is a sweetheart of a deal for anyone who owns one of these four models of Nokia Lumia devices. I hope some of our Moosers can take advantage of the savings and pick up needed accessories for their Lumia.

Dell Canada: TRENDnet 8-Port GREENnet Switch Was $50 | Now $30 & Free Shipping (Expired)

Posted by on February 18, 2015 at 3:00 PM

Dell Canada: TRENDnet 8 Port GREENnet Switch Was $50 | Now $30 & Free Shipping (Expired)

Pick up the TRENDnet 8-Port Gigabit GREENnet Switch on sale from $49.99 down to $29.99. This switch comes with free shipping. Dell also offers 5% back via the Dell Advantage, so make sure you sign up for that program before your next purchase.

Electronics deals always need to be price compared as prices fluctuate so often. I compared this exact same model (TEG-S80G) GREENnet Switch from TRENDnet at other popular stores. Here is what they retail for elsewhere:

  • $49.99 @ Amazon Canada
  • $43.99 + $6.99 shipping @ Newegg.ca
  • $46.99 + shipping @ NCIX.com

Now, there appears to be two different models. One has a metal case and the other a plastic case. The price certainly differs between the two cases, with the metal case more expensive. According to the details on Dell, this GREENnet Switch comes in “sturdy metal housing” rather than plastic. Many people prefer the metal housing as it is quite sturdy and does not heat up as much as the plastic case does.

Now, TRENDnet’s 8-port switch uses GREENnet technology to reduce power consumption by up to 70%. That is the big draw of this switch rather than others – over time you will save money on your power bills by switching to more energy efficient electronics. As a switch is on 24/7, that power consumption can add up.

Of course, this switch has more ports than you will ever need. With eight ports, you can plug in everything you own and then a few extras. The switch has a five-year limited warranty.

The reviews on this unit are extremely positive. Seven people have bothered to review it on Dell and the switch averages 4.6/5 stars with 36 reviews on Amazon Canada. Here is one of the reviews from Dell:

I bought this switch to upgrade my LAN to gigabit speeds. I’m very happy with it. It’s got a metal casing, not cheap plastic. I’ve been using it for over a month and have not had to power cycle it. There is no set up either – you just plug in the power and the network cables and you’re all set.

If I needed a new switch, I would be buying this unit. It has everything I need, has a solid case, and reduces energy consumption. I also really like the colour scheme of green and black. I think this is a sweet deal and the free shipping makes it even better.

Apple Canada: Refurbished Apple TV $85 & Free Shipping

Posted by on February 17, 2015 at 2:30 PM

Apple Canada: Refurbished Apple TV $85 & Free Shipping

One of my favourite deals is back at Apple Canada. Pick up an Apple Certified refurbished Apple TV for just $85 with free shipping. The regular Apple TV retails for $109 so you are saving $24 on the refurbished model with the peace of mind that comes with a one-year warranty.

It has been positively ages since we last saw the Apple TV in the refurbished section. I assume the refurbished models sell out fairly quickly, so we will not always catch them when in stock. The refurbished section is strangely empty these days with only a few computers and the Apple TV to save us money on our Apple essentials.

With your new Apple TV, you will have access to movies, TV shows, sports, your music and photos, and more on your HDTV. The Apple TV also communicates with your iOS devices so you can play content wirelessly on your TV from your iPhone or your iPad. Instead of showing your friends a picture on your tiny phone screen, send it to your TV for everyone to see and marvel at your amazing photography skills.

Refurbished products are safe. Apple puts them through rigorous testing before selling them again. Then there are two levels of protection. First, you have a 14-day money back return period. If you are not happy with your Apple TV, just send it back for a refund. Next, the refurbished Apple TV is covered by one-year warranty. If something goes wrong within the first year, they will fix it. You can also purchase extended coverage through AppleCare.

The Apple TV communicates with your HDTV via HDMI cable, which you will need to buy separately. I always seem to have one of those cables lying around as I use them for my PS3, had one for my digital box back when I had cable through Shaw, and I have a third one for connecting my laptop to the television.

I only know a few people who own the Apple TV, and they love it. While the movie selection could be improved, they always find something to watch. Their kids also enjoy the selection of children’s content available through the device as well.

Quantities are limited.

Staples Canada: 50% Off Logitech G105 Gaming Keyboard – Now $35 (FS @ $45)

Posted by on February 15, 2015 at 6:30 PM

Staples Canada: 50% Off Logitech G105 Gaming Keyboard Now $35 (FS @ $45)

Staples Canada is offering 50% off this Logitech G105 Gaming Keyboard. Originally $69.99, the keyboard is now on sale for $34.99. You can get free shipping to store on any order or else the free shipping minimum is $45.

I price compared this keyboard with many other stores. Here is what other retailers are currently selling the Logitech G105 Gaming Keyboard for:

  • $54.99 + $9.99 shipping @ Newegg.ca
  • $69.99 @ Best Buy Canada
  • $64.99 @ Future Shop Canada
  • $54.99 @ NCIX.com

Amazon only had the keyboard from a secondary seller, and it was pretty much full price as well (once you calculated in shipping).

This keyboard is customized for gamers. The LED backlighting is built to last as long as the keyboard. There are two different levels of keyboard brightness as well. On the keyboard, there are six programmable G-keys with three modes capable of 18 unique macro combinations. Multi-key input is supported and there is also a game mode switch. Setup is simple.

As a gamer, quality is pretty important in a keyboard. Logitech backs up their keyboard with a three-year manufacturer’s warranty. When most items only come with one-year warranties, this is a good offer. Gamers love this keyboard, but non-gamers also like it. Here is what one regular computer user had to say:

The feel of this keyboard is great. It gives the right amount of feedback for typing. I also like the macro keys that can be set to whatever you like and the lighting up of the keys is good. This keyboard is sold as a gaming keyboard, but I am not a gamer and I still like this keyboard. So don’t ignore this keyboard just because you are not a gamer.

All five reviews on Staples Canada give this keyboard a perfect 5/5 star rating. It seems to be a impressive little unit that performs well and really holds up well. The only minor criticisms I see are on layout. A few gamers do not like the location of a few buttons. However, they have all sucked it up and got used to the format. For the price of this unit, I do not think you can go wrong.

As I mentioned above, it will cost you to ship unless you reach that $45 minimum or you choose to get your unit shipped to store. Right now, my local store has six in stock so pickup should be no problem for me.

NCIX Canada: 50% Off Kingston 32GB microSDHC Flash Card – Now $16

NCIX Canada: 50% Off Kingston 32GB microSDHC Flash Card Now $16

Need a new memory card? Then grab the Kingston 32GB microSDHC flash card while you still can. There are limited quantities available and during the next couple of days only, it’s down by 50% to just $15.98 instead of its regular price of $30.98.

This memory card is a class 10 UHS-I with 10MBs minimum data transfer rate. On NCIX’s site, there are 5 reviews with a general consensus of 4.6/5 stars. Here’s what one reviewer had to say about it:

Good for your Smart Phone! Works well, and Fast for 1080p Video recording too.

And here’s another one:

A basic micro sd that works great at a great price. I haven’t tested out the read and write speed yet but it seems to be good enough.

Since another reviewer purchased this memory card to use in a dash cam, I’m tempted to get it for this purpose as well. I gave my father a dash cam for Christmas and since it didn’t come with a memory card, he asked me to look around for a good deal and this one is definitely worth taking advantage of, whether to use in a dash cam or not.

If you need even more space than just 32GB, then check out the Adata premier micro SDXC memory card at Direct Canada as it’s on sale for $30.98 (reg. $44.99).

I found this same flash card on sale for $19.99 (reg. $39.99) at the Microsoft Store but although it would have included free shipping, it’s already out of stock. Staples is currently selling it for $39.92. Speaking of shipping…

Shipping

The only downside to this great deal is the shipping cost but on the bright side, it qualifies for express shipping, which is of $8 and should only take 1-2 business days to ship. To avoid this pesky cost, you can use the NCIX coupon code: FAMILYDAYSHIPPING until February 15th to get free shipping if your cart reaches $50 or more.

NCIX is also currently offering free shipping on any order with purchase of select Intel products such as a processor, an SSD, etc. Check all of these out here.

Alternatively, it can also be picked up for free from the NCIX location in Ottawa on Woodroffe Ave.

Really impressed with how well made and quick it is. The kids love it. The camera isn’t the best but don’t expect that will matter to most users.

I hope you all have a great day today, my fellow deal hunters!

HP Envy 5660 Wireless All-In-One Inket Printer Was $110 Now $40 & Free Shipping @ Futureshop.ca

HP Envy 5660 Wireless All In One Inket Printer Was $110 Now $40 & Free Shipping @ Futureshop.ca

Pick up the HP Envy 5660 Wireless All-In-One Inkjet Printer today at a steal. This printer was $110 but is now only $40. The printer is available at both Futureshop.ca and it’s sister company BestBuy.ca for the same steal price. If it is out of stock at one, you can grab it at the other. Both stores offer free shipping with a minimum purchase of $25 and this qualifies.

A printer can be super handy to have at home. If you are like me, you may have run into trouble when trying to print from all of your devices. It may be time to upgrade for me. I need a printer that can connect to several Apple mobile devices, my laptop and my tablet. When did we get so many different types of devices in our house?

This printer does it all wirelessly and is a simple plug and play installation. You can connect it to your iPhone, IPad, Android device and more wirelessly. It has a separate tray to print 4×6 photos quickly without switching out the paper. You can even crop and do basic edits right from the colour touchscreen on photos and documents. The cartridges are high yield ink cartridges, which should help you to conserve ink costs. This printer also has a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty on both parts and labour.

This particular printer does not seem to be in stock anywhere else besides Best Buy and Future Shop. Perhaps it is simply last year’s model. The only place I found it in stock was from a third party seller on Amazon.ca for $170 which seems almost silly.

A comparable printer would be the HP Envy 4500 Wireless Colour Inkjet e-All-in-One Printer. I have found this comparable printer @ Amazon.ca for $99. I also found this same printer @ Staples.ca for $99. You could also pick up this comparable printer at BestBuy.ca or Future Shop.ca for $107. Better to buy the other all in one model now while it is a steal of a price.

There are several people talking about this printer on Futureshop. Overall it seems to be well liked. One user gave the tip to make sure to look for the ink cartridges in the Styrofoam casing, as they almost threw them out accidentally. Here is one happy review:

Printer very easy to setup, comes with ink cartridges. Print quality is very good and the wireless feature is great. Easy to print pictures from my iPhone 6. For the sale price, you can’t go wrong.

Once you get this printer at home, you can take advantage of all the amazing free printables available online. Check out my Valentine’s Day posts for 12 Last Minute Valentine’s Day Printables or 6 Free Printable Classroom-Style Valentine’s Day Cards for some great ideas of projects you can do with this printer. A printer can be handy for that last minute gift you forgot need now. I plan on featuring some more free printables in the near future that you can also make once you have this printer home.  This sale is available for a few days, but I would suggest ordering it now while it is still in stock. Plus you want to get started on all those fun DIY printable projects even sooner.

Bargainmoosers, what would you print on your new printer?
