NCIX Canada: 70% Off Simple Audio LISTEN Stereo Speakers with Bluetooth – Was $500 | Now $149 (& Free Shipping)

Posted by on March 30, 2015 at 12:30 PM

NCIX Canada: 70% Off Simple Audio LISTEN Stereo Speakers with Bluetooth Was $500 | Now $149 (& Free Shipping)NCIX Canada has a hot deal on the Simple Audio LISTEN stereo speakers with bluetooth. Originally priced as high as $499, they’re now 70% off and can be yours for just $149. This includes free shipping and a 298 bonus NCIX Rewards points.

The fact that these speakers were originally priced as high as $499 is really quite impressive, although at Amazon.ca, they are currently on sale from $349.77 from an original list price of $549.99.

In any case, this is a fantastic deal, especially since shipping is included. There is no word on when this deal might expire but my guess is that it’s probably “while supplies last”.

I’m not the most savvy when it comes to speakers and so I tend to judge the quality of these from reviews. Out of 18 reviews, the Simple Audio LISTEN speakers actually have a recommendation rate of 94%. That’s really quite awesome, especially since some reviewers labels these speakers as being some of the best ones, especially for the sale price. Here’s what one reviewer had to say about them:

These are a good buy when on (huge) sale, but there are other comparable systems around the $200 mark. They sound very nice with enough bass by themselves if you’re just sitting at a desk. I use them for my TV & PS4.

According to another reviewer, these are comparable to $200 speakers on the market and yet other reviewers claim that these also stand up very nicely to BOSE ones, which are considered to be some of the very best ones that you can get (these do however come with a pretty hefty price tag as well).

If you have been looking for quality speakers but haven’t been wanting to shell out more than a couple of hundreds of dollars on them, then these ones are a hot must-buys. They offer a 40W per channel class-d amplifier, along with a fully integrated DPS and digital signal path.

The interface is also a touch-enabled one, which is definitely a handy feature to show off to guests. NCIX Canada: 70% Off Simple Audio LISTEN Stereo Speakers with Bluetooth Was $500 | Now $149 (& Free Shipping)

Chapters Indigo Canada: Up To $60 Off Mophie Space Pack For iPhone 5 16GB or 32GB – Now $100 or $120

Posted by on March 30, 2015 at 11:30 AM

Chapters Indigo Canada: Up To $60 Off Mophie Space Pack For iPhone 5 16GB or 32GB Now $100 or $120

Got an iPhone 5? Then check out this super cool gadget on sale at Chapters Indigo: right now, you can save up to $60 on the Mophie space pack for the iPhone 5. You have the choice between the 16GB version or the 32GB one. Trust me when I say that if you have an iPhone 5, then you absolutely need this item. Shipping will also be free as Chapters Indigo ships orders over $25 for free.

For Christmas, I bought my hubby the Anker 13000 omh portable battery that Avigayil had blogged about back in December. It tends to go up and down in price but right now, it’s back to being $34.99. Shipping is also quick as well.

To get back to the point though, after giving it to my hubby, I found myself constantly borrowing it because my iPhone 5 needs to be recharged at least twice a day. I felt so bad about constantly borrowing his gift that a couple of weeks ago, I ordered one for myself as well and while I love it wholeheartedly, the only drawback is having to carry around a battery that is slightly bigger than my phone. Don’t get me wrong, the convenience of having this battery far outweigh any sizing issues, but had I known about the Mophie, I may have gone with it instead.

If you have an iPhone 5, then you can either get the:

Both versions also come in a choice of the following colours: black, white or gold.

So what is the Mophie space pack? It’s essentially an iPhone phone case that adds either 16GB or 32GB of storage to your phone, along with an additional charge. Mind blown? Yeah, I am too.

I  have to admit that it’s the first I head of this product but it’s really quite cool! As you can see on the picture above, it’s also not too bulky. A 1700mAh charge should also double your battery life but it really depends on how heavily you use your phone and the amount of apps that you tend to run simultaneously.

Now, at Amazon, the Mophie space pack is more expensive. The 16GB gold version, for instance, is on sale for $149.99 (reg. $199.99), which is $50 more than at Chapters. However, browsing around, the only price discrepancy I found is that the black 32GB one is actually cheaper! It’s down to $115, so if that’s the one you want, then make sure to get it at Amazon instead, but it doesn’t look like the price will stick for long. For all other colours and storage capacity ones, make sure to get it at Chapters Indigo instead.

All Future Shop Stores Officially Closed!

Posted by on March 29, 2015 at 2:45 PM

All Future Shop Stores Officially Closed!

On Saturday, countless Future Shop employees got a huge shock upon heading over for their daily shifts. Instead of open doors, they were faced with signs labelled: “this store is permanently closed” as most Future Shop stores will be re-branded as Best Buy. Future Shop’s website is currently no more but all pending orders will be executed regardless.

Back in 2001, Best Buy, a store that we have all come to love and shop at, bought Future Shop. It would have made sense to convert all Future Shop stores to Best Buy ones back then but for some reason, it took nearly 15 years to do so! In fact, 65 Future Shop stores are set to re-open as Best Buy ones within a week with the goal of improving business.

With Target in the midst of withdrawing from Canada, the sudden closing of another major store is definitely major news but what is shocking though isn’t so much that most Future Shop will officially and finally be switching to Best Buy ones, a move that makes sense considering that for a while, nearly all deals and sales have been identical at both stores, but it’s the fact that 500 full-times and as many as 1,000 part-time jobs will be lost as a result.

Although some of the Future Shop stores will simply be converted to Best Buy stores, a restructuring effort that is set to cost up to 350-million dollars, other Future Shop stores that are just in too close proximity to a Best Buy store, will simply be closed. No word either on what will happen to those locations.

Moosers, how will this affect you? Do you know someone who will be losing their job?

Future Shop: HP Wireless Mouse X4000 – Now $9.97 (FS @ $25) *HOT* (EXPIRED)

Posted by on March 27, 2015 at 1:39 PM

Future Shop: HP Wireless Mouse X4000 Now $9.97 (FS @ $25) *HOT* (EXPIRED)

This HP Wireless Mouse X4000 with Laser Sensor is a great buy at only $9.97 on clearance. You rarely find mice below the $10 mark – especially not brand names like HP.

While Future Shop does not list the original price, I found the same mouse a bunch of other places. Here is what the HP Wireless X4000 mouse costs at other retailers right now:

  • $34.99 + shipping @ HP Store
  • $29.99 + shipping @ Tiger Direct Canada
  • $34.98 @ Shop.ca

I also found an old cached page for the same mouse on Future Shop where the price was $34.98. Using this as my basis, the HP mouse is now a very good deal. The mouse comes with 2.4GHz wireless connectivity. That should give you around 30 feet of range – give or take a brick wall. The mouse also has an extra-long battery life, which will last around 30 months. HP Link-5 technology allows you to connect up to five devices just on this one nano receiver. If you are short on USB ports, then this little nano receiver will be your best friend.

This is a final clearance item. You will receive free shipping on orders of $25 or more so this is a good time to check out the rest of the spring clearance sale.

Future Shop has some hot deals right now during their spring clearance. I ran across this Griffin iPad Habit Journal Case in purple on sale from $48.95 down to $9.95. This case is compatible with the iPad 2 / iPad 3rd Gen / iPad 4th Gen. It is a cute little case featuring little elephants all over it in a light purple and then the case itself is a darker purple. The ‘journal style’ case clips on the back of your iPad and then has a front piece to protect the screen. Like the Apple brand covers, the front piece has several fold lines so you can use it as a stand for your iPad at different angles. The case locks open into an adjustable 3-position stand. This is perfect for reading ebooks, viewing movies, or typing. I used to have one of these for when I took my iPad to class. The typing position was my favourite.

I also spotted this Griffin iPad Journal case in a sunglasses print. If elephants are not your style, try this case instead. Originally $38.99, the case is on sale for $12.99. This is not as good of a deal, but still pretty nice.

Trade Up To iPhone 6 From Just $80 With Telus @ Best Buy Friends & Family Sale (March 26th In-Stores Only) (EXPIRED)

Posted by on March 25, 2015 at 7:00 PM

Trade Up To iPhone 6 From Just $80 With Telus @ Best Buy Friends & Family Sale (March 26th In Stores Only) (EXPIRED)

I love iPhones a little too much to agree with the funny image above of the iPhone 6 bending down to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 but the fake ad is a genius one nonetheless! Speaking of iPhones, tomorrow on March 25th, Best Buy will be having a Friends & Family Sale with the possibility to trade up to an iPhone 6 for as low as $79.99. This offer is only with a Telus plan, but there are other offers clients of Bell, Rogers and Virgin Mobile.

The iPone 6 trade-in offer is the one that most caught my attention because not only I’m with Telus myself but I also have the iPhone 5s. When the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus first came out, I contemplated switching but ultimately opted not to shell out the big bucks to upgrade to the newest toy.

This trade-in offer has captured my attention though because I figure that once the new iPhone comes out in September (nothing is confirmed of course but there is quite the pattern of new iPhones being released every September), then I could potentially have an easier time selling the latest model online as opposed to the one before that. Plus, my hubby has the iPhone 6 and I must say, there is a noticeable difference in the picture quality between the 5s and the 6!

With Best Buy’s Friends & Family Sale, anyone with Telus could get the:

  • iPhone 6 16GB for just $129.99 (reg. $264.99) or $79.99 after trade-in
  • iPhone 6 Plus 16GB for $239.99 (reg. $374.99) or $189.99 after trade-in

The 64GB and 128GB iPhones are also available but prices aren’t listen online, which means that you would have to visit your local store to find out what these are.

The only fine print is that this discount is on “select 2-year new activation or renewal”. Now the only thing is that there is no specification as to the kind of phone that you can trade in. It’s unclear whether you need to have an iPhone to get an iPhone or if you can bring in a Samsung from another service provider. With regards to a renewal, it’s also unclear if your contract needs to be close to the end of its term or not either.

In either case, if you have been wanting the newest iPhone, then this deal is definitely worth checking out in-stores. I don’t suggest you wait until the end of the day either as iPhone deals tend to sell out like hot cakes.

If you would prefer to get a Samsung phone, then you could potentially also get one for free, along with up to a $150 gift card. For the Samsung Galaxy S5, you would have to go with Bell or Rogers or for the S4, you have the choice between Koodo, Virgin Mobile or Fido.

Other offers include but are now limited to:

  • 20% off Beats headphones & speaker with activation of Apple products
  • 20% off Case-Mate iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus cases
  • 10% off wearable tech products

Dell Refurbished Coupon Code: Extra 50% Off Precision Workstations

Posted by on March 25, 2015 at 2:38 PM

Dell Refurbished Coupon Code: Extra 50% Off Precision Workstations

Dell Refurbished has a rather hefty coupon code available right now. Receive 50% off all Precision Workstations and 40% off anything else on the Dell Refurbished website.

Click here to shop Precision Workstations @ Dell Refurbished now

  • Coupon Code: SPRING15
  • Discount: 50% off Precision Workstations, 40% off everything else
  • Expiry: 27th March 2015

Refurbished Dell units come with a 100-day warranty. There may have some small cosmetic marks, but the machines themselves have been fully refurbished into working condition. Each computer is graded by Dell’s cosmetic grading system that you can check out here. This coupon is a good way to get a deal on a new desktop or laptop computer. You can combine this coupon with the deal of the day offers for additional savings, but they are selling out quickly.

I picked out a system at random to test. This Precision T3500 Xeon Dual Core 2.53 (W3505) has a cosmetic grade of A. It comes with a fast 2.53 GHz processor, but fairly small hard drive and RAM. Originally $509, you can score this computer for just $254.50.

When it comes to a big coupon like this, I want the biggest machine I can get my hands on. This Precision T5500 Xeon Quad Core 2.93 (X5647) desktop has a 2.93 GHz processor (fast!) and comes with a 2TB hard drive. While 4GB of RAM is nothing impressive, RAM is pretty cheap to buy. This huge system was $859 but comes down to $429.50 after coupon.

Dell Refurbished Coupon Code: Extra 50% Off Precision Workstations

Unfortunately, there are no Precision Laptops in stock right now. If you have your heart set on a laptop, you can still receive 40% off other laptops. This Latitude E6420 Core i5 2.60 (i5-2540M) is my pick out of all the laptops. It comes with an i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 500 GB hard drive. Originally $579, it is now on sale for $521. After coupon code, pay just $312.16.

There are many laptops to choose from but most have rather small hard drives. Still, for a couple hundred dollars, one of these laptops would make a great little computer for using Facebook, checking your email, and watching YouTube videos.

Shipping depends upon what you are buying and where it is going. On average, my orders cost $28 – $30 and I live in one of the more expensive places to ship: Vancouver Island.

For this and future Dell Refurbished coupon codes, please visit our forum. We try to keep the forum updated for you with all sorts of wonderful coupon codes.

Newegg Canada: Seagate 5TB USB 3.0 Hard Drive Was $220 | Now $137

Posted by on March 25, 2015 at 12:02 PM

Newegg Canada: Seagate 5TB USB 3.0 Hard Drive Was $220 | Now $137

**BUMP – Price drop! The 5TB hard drive has dropped to $154.99 + $6.99 shipping. Pay with Visa (as detailed below) and use the coupon code to get this 5TB hard drive for only $129.99 + $6.99 shipping = $136.98 **

I think I may be buying myself a new hard drive because this is a killer deal. Currently, the Seagate Expansion 5TB USB 3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive (STBV5000100) is on sale from $219.99 down to $159.99. Newegg Canada currently has a Visa coupon codeVCMAR25 – for $25 off orders of $150 or more. Pay with Visa at checkout and use the coupon code mentioned above to purchase your 5TB Seagate hard drive for only $134.99 plus $6.99 shipping.

This is a very impressive price. As I have worked out before, the best deal I ever see on a hard drive work out to $27.50 per TB. This deal is for a larger hard drive and it comes in at an impressive $27 per TB (excluding shipping) or $28.39 per TB including shipping. That is an impressive deal for a hard drive this size.

I price compared this unit with other retailers. Taking into account shipping, you will pay $141.98 (plus the usual taxes) for the hard drive. Here is what other companies sell this unit for:

  • $166.98 @ Amazon Canada
  • $169.99 @ NCIX.com
  • $220.99 + shipping @ Tiger Direct Canada
  • $194.95 @ iT Factory Canada

As you can see, even with shipping at Newegg Canada, they have the absolute best price on this hard drive. The key is the coupon code – so borrow a friend’s Visa card if you do not already have one.

The hard drive comes with a one-year warranty. If concerned about the length of the warranty, you can purchase an extended warranty. A one-year extended replacement warrant will run you around $18.

Overall, the reviews on this hard drive are quite positive. As one reviewer says

5 TB drive Runs fast and quiet. It sits on my desk and I never hear it. When I access the drive it responds quickly. Seagate hit a Homerun with this one.

Out of ALL the places I looked, the reviewers on Newegg seemed to rate, this hard drive lower than other places. I wanted to know why, so I read some of the reviews. Another reviewer responded to these negative views by suggesting they not remove the hard drive from its enclosure, delete the original partition, and do not leave it on all the time. You can read the reviews and figure out if this is a good hard drive for you.

Receive free shipping with Newegg Premier.

NCIX.com: Belkin Conserve Power Switch Was $10 | Now $4 (EXPIRED)

Posted by on March 24, 2015 at 2:19 PM

NCIX.com: Belkin Conserve Power Switch Was $10 | Now $4 (EXPIRED)

NCIX.com has an excellent deal on this Belkin Conserve Clutter Reducing Power Switch. Originally $9.99, the Belkin power switch is now on sale for $3.99 with free shipping (expired).

First, what is this thing? Well, it is an outlet that you plug into your normal outlets. This outlet has a switch built in that cuts power from your device to the outlet. For instance, you could put this between your toaster’s cord and the outlet you usually plug into. Then, instead of unplugging your toaster every time it is not in use – you simply flip the switch to off. Presto – the power has been cut.

This device is very useful for saving on your power bill. Many articles have been written on the internet about ghost energy – energy used, that you pay for, when your electronics, appliances, and more are not in use. Money savers everywhere suggest unplugging any device that is not in use. However, this switch can work for anything you do not want to be constantly plugging in and unplugging. In the end, they will save you money on your energy bill.

One reviewer said:

A simple switch that can help reduce power consumption and also function as a on/off switch to items that does not have a power switch.

That pretty much sums the device up.

I tried price comparing with other stores in Canada but this device is not carried very many places. I did find them at Amazon.ca for $6.99 each. Unless your cart totalled $25, you would not receive free shipping either. The ratings on Amazon Canada are positive as well.

These little power switches draw no power when they are turned off. They also reduce the clutter of a bunch of unplugged devices. There is nothing like trying to figure out which black cord with two prongs belongs to which device. They come with a limited one-year warranty. I like the colour of these too: it is a combination of white, grey, and lemongrass (greenish-yellow).

There does not appear to be a limit to how many you can buy during this sale. I think this is a hot deal, and it is only on for a couple more days. For your information, this product is currently backordered but the website says to order now and they will ship when it is back in stock.

Olympus Coupon Code: 25% off Reconditioned Tech!

Posted by on March 24, 2015 at 9:29 AM

Olympus Coupon Code: 25% off Reconditioned Tech!

Ever shopped online at the Olympus store? If not, it’s time to check out a few deals. They’ve just released a coupon code which gets you a 25% discount on items in the Olympus outlet – this is their store for reconditioned items. Here are the details:

Click here to use the Olympus coupon code online now

  • Coupon Code: SPRING
  • Discount: 25% off
  • Expires: 27th March 2015

Everything in the Olympus outlet store has been fully reconditioned and comes with a 90 day warranty, and a 30 day money back guarantee. This is a pretty good policy for such reconditioned items.

Tech Deals

There are all sorts of tech items for sale in the outlet, everything from cameras to accessories and lenses.

  • TG-830 iHS RED Digital Camera was $279.99 now $119.99 – this is $307 to buy now @ CDW.ca, albeit in an alternate colour. It’s also $290 new @ Tigerdirect – but this comparison just serves to show you the kind of bargain you are getting from Olympus.
  • TG-850 Black Digital Camera was $249.99 now $119.99 – to buy this item new online in Canada, you’re looking at $240 @ Best Buy, $250 @ London Drugs, that kind of price range.
  • E-M10 Silver Body 14-42 IIR Black Digital Camera was $799.99 now $479.99 – this item is much more costly new in Canada, from $690 @ Costco, to $600 @ Henrys, to $700 @ Future Shop and Best Buy.

Shipping is free on a $150 spend, but this appears to be the pre-discounted amount. For example, on the above TG-830 camera, it cost $159.99 before the Olympus coupon code so qualified for free shipping. The coupon code brought the item down to $119.99 but the free shipping still applied!

Customs, Duties, Taxes

I was recently communicating with Olympus as we haven’t written about them here on Bargainmoose before (not the Getolympus site). I was checking out things like customs, duties, taxes, etc. Here’s what they have on their help page:

For all orders placed in Canada, we must charge sales tax in all states where sales tax is applicable. There are no other taxes or brokerage fees charged once the item ships and enters Canada.

This is perfect! So even though your order will ship from the US, you just pay your taxes at checkout and then there are no other fees to worry about whatsoever.

Rewards Program

If you sign up for an account and signup for emails, they will give you 150 points on their reward program. If you add your birthdate, you’ll get another 250 then. I did that and I was then shown the option to get a $2 gift card to take off the purchase – you might as well try this too! See here:

Olympus Coupon Code: 25% off Reconditioned Tech!

Exchange Rates

What’s great about the above deals is that they are all in Canadian dollars. You’re really making a steal on some items, as they’re priced like for like with the items on the US storefront.

One of my early digital cameras was an Olympus. I bought it when I was living in Australia for a year. At that time, it was mega-expensive as it was a 12MP, and this was over 10 years ago. That was a very high pixel count at the time. It was an amazing digital camera for its time. In fact, it’s still sitting here in my office drawer, but sadly unused now. I must pass it on to a family member who can make use of it!

Dell Canada: D-Link 5-Port Desktop Switch Was $15 | Now $10 & Free Shipping (EXPIRED)

Posted by on March 23, 2015 at 2:00 PM

Dell Canada: D Link 5 Port Desktop Switch Was $15 | Now $10 & Free Shipping (EXPIRED)

Dell has started another four days of deals. I picked out this inexpensive D-Link (GO-SW-5E) 5 Port Unmanaged Desktop Switch that is on sale from $14.99 down to $9.99 with free shipping.

I price compared this deal with many other retailers. Dell Canada now only has the cheapest price but that free shipping with no minimum offer from Dell makes this deal far superior than anywhere else. The D-Link 5-Port Fast Ethernet Easy Desktop Switch retails for:

  • $12.99 @ Amazon Canada
  • $14.99 @ Tiger Direct Canada
  • $12.99 @ Future Shop Canada
  • $12.99 @ The Source Canada
  • $12.99  @ Best Buy Canada
  • $24.99 @ CDW Canada

All of the above prices require an extra shipping fee that starts at $5 and goes up from there. Thus, Dell easily beats them all.

The Dlink switch provides reliable high speed wired networking between computers. Plug up to five computers into the switch. The unmanaged 10/100 Mbps switch gives you a choice between 10 MBPS and 100 MBPS depending on the workload of the computer in question. This D link switch is a plug and play model – guaranteeing an easy set up with little effort. Connect multiple computers to the GO-SW-5E switch for easy file and folder sharing. You can also connect the device to a router for sharing an internet connection. One reviewer did just that:

I needed a few more ports than my router offered, so this device was perfect. Just plug it into your router and you get a few more ports for your devices. No setup required, plug and play.

For $10, this is a simple expansion instead of buying a larger router.

This switch is also part of D-Link’s Green Technology. Green technology saves energy, reduces device heat, and gives your switch a longer life span without reducing efficiency. Another reviewer was quite happy with how simple the device is to set up:

This unit is small, takes up almost no space and works like a dream. Just plug and play. If only all my other devices were this seamless….

This little device is great for home businesses, small offices, and to expand your personal router if you wire in to your router for the best internet speed.

Sign up for the Dell Advantage to receive 5% back on a Dell gift card as well. That might not seem like much from this little switch, but 5% adds up over time.

Microsoft Store: HP Stream 7 Was $119 | Now $99 + Free $25 Gift Card, Screen Protector & Tablet Case

Posted by on March 22, 2015 at 12:16 PM

Microsoft Store: HP Stream 7 Was $119 | Now $99 + Free $25 Gift Card, Screen Protector & Tablet Case

The Microsoft Store has one doozy of a deal, if you need a new tablet. The HP Stream 7 was $119 and is now only $99. On top of that, you will receive a free $25 gift card, a free screen protector, and a free case. Not only that, Office 365 Personal is included with the tablet. This tablet and all accessories will also receive free shipping.

If I did not just spend a fortune on shoes this last week, I would be buying this tablet. I seriously cannot think of a better deal on a brand name tablet right now.

Let is just consider this offer for a second in terms of savings.

  • Tablet – $119
  • Free Case – $30
  • Screen protector – $10
  • Gift Card – $25
  • Office 365 Personal – $69

This bundle has a total value of $253! When you pay only $99 for the entire thing, you are essentially saving $154 over what each item would normally cost if you had to pay for them individually. You can now see why this is such a hot deal.

Microsoft Store: HP Stream 7 Was $119 | Now $99 + Free $25 Gift Card, Screen Protector & Tablet Case

This tablet has a 7-inch (177.8-millimeter) HD touchscreen with an Intel Atom Z3735G processor. While there is only 1 GB of internal memory, you can easily expand that up to 32 GB with an external memory card. The HP tablets provide up to eight hours of battery life, and maybe longer, depending on what you use them for.

This reviewer sums up what many people think:

Best affordable tablet you can buy. This is much better than anything with android on it for the same price.. I cannot believe how much better these devices have become over the last two years.

While there may be a few dissenters, the overwhelming number of reviews are positive on Microsoft for a solid 4.1/5 star rating with over 300 reviews. In fact, 213 of those reviews are for a complete 5/5 star rating.

The odd commenter mentioned issues with the Wi-Fi, but others said that it must be their home Wi-Fi network having problems because this machine connects with no problem.

The reviewers also stressed having reasonable expectations. At this price, the tablet is not going to perform the same as a $600 tablet. You need to have reasonable expectations. What you do get is a good performing tablet with pretty good speed and a boatload of accessories for $100.

I am stoked about this deal and I hope you are too. If you buy one, please let me know!

TODAY ONLY! Sunbeam Mini Tower Air Purifier Was $70 | Now $41 & Free Shipping @ Amazon.ca (EXPIRED)

Posted by on March 20, 2015 at 8:52 AM

TODAY ONLY! Sunbeam Mini Tower Air Purifier Was $70 | Now $41 & Free Shipping @ Amazon.ca (EXPIRED)

With spring flowers come springtime allergies. Make breathing a little easier with the Sunbeam Mini Tower Air Purifier which was $69.99 but is now only $40.99 @ Amazon.ca. This item qualifies for free super saver shipping too!

Air filters are an item I know well, as I have seasonal allergies to pollen and also allergies to dust. When the flowers start blooming, I start sneezing. While over the counter allergy relief products do help to keep the sniffles at bay, they get expensive plus who wants to be taking medication all the time? I find that by cleaning my house a little deeper and running an air cleaner, I am able to reduce the amount of allergy medication I need. I also do not like finding my bookshelf, TV and other furniture regularly covered in dust. A filter can help to reduce that dust.

This air purifier is a Sunbeam, which is a brand that holds its own in the air filter market. I have owned a Sunbeam in the past and it did the job well. This filter is a mini-size that is for small rooms up to 106 square feet. If you have trouble with allergies at work, this looks like it would be ideal to put on the edge of your desk. The machine also says it will remove 99% of contaminates in your space.

The filter has three settings, including a high setting with an extra-ionized boost. The first time you run a filter I recommend running it on high for a while before switching to low. I found any time I dusted it was a good idea to switch to high. I have also had success with a filter similar to this removing a damp smell from my basement after cleaning up a leak. Users are reporting that the two lower settings are quiet, but the highest setting is a little noisier.

I price shopped around a little bit, and here is what I found at the competitors for the same filter.

One reviewer on Walmart Canada seems to be having a positive experience with this filter.

This air purifier is great for the price. I bought it because we have a small child and was worried about the amount of dust in my apartment. Within a week, it has reduced the amount of dust by half at least.

With spring on the way, there will be more pollen and extra dust. I would grab this filter at this price now. This is the perfect size to use seasonally as it is not as large as the other giant filters. This Sunbeam is a special lightning deal today and will only be around as long as they have stock.

Microsoft Store: Monster Outlets Global Adapter Was $25 | Now $10 & Free Shipping (EXPIRED)

Microsoft Store: Monster Outlets Global Adapter Was $25 | Now $10 & Free Shipping (EXPIRED)

When travelling abroad, the most important thing to own is a global adapter. If you find yourself in a country with a different outlet than Canada, the global adapter will be your best friend. Originally $24.95, Microsoft Canada has discounted the Monster Outlets To Go 200 Global Adapter to $9.97 with free shipping.

The Monster Outlets Global Adapter features adjustable prongs that let you connect to any type AC outlet. This little device has your back covered in over 150 countries. I actually travelled to England a few years ago to discover that I had brought the wrong adapter. That trip taught me the value of a global adapter over a single adapter – you will never accidentally bring the wrong prong.

Once you plug the device in, there are two global outlets for you to connect any type of device. It does not matter what kind of plug your device has, as each outlet plug has all the right holes. One of the outlets is on top of the device (two-prong) and the other outlet is on the front of the device (two or three-prong). The two prong works well for personal electronics like cell phones and tablet. The three-prong is necessary for charging larger electronics like laptops.

The retractable plug on the back folds in so the To Go 200 is ultra-portable. This sweet little adapter also includes a USB port so you can charge your external speaker, smart phone, MP3 player, and more directly from the wall. I could not find this sweet little device many places, but I did find it at Amazon Canada for $31.82. That is over three-times the price of the one currently on clearance at Microsoft Canada. Most places I found this device in the USA charged $20 or more.

I am super jealous of this little unit. I have a universal adapter that only has one ‘input’ outlet and does not have the USB feature whatsoever. It also has individual pieces for each different AC Outlet. They all stick together neatly, but it is still a pain to take them apart and figure out which one to use.

The Source Canada: Acer X223W 22″ Monitor Was $135 | Now $80 & Free Shipping (EXPIRED)

The Source Canada: Acer X223W 22 Monitor Was $135 | Now $80 & Free Shipping (EXPIRED)

Monitors on a tight budget are not too common on Bargainmoose, but I just found a great little deal. The Source Canada has discounted the Acer 22″ X223W LCD monitor from $134.98 (regular price) down to $79.96. This is an open box model and comes with full warranty.

I think a clarification of terms is in order first. There is a big difference between display model, open box, and refurbished. Refurbished means the product had an issue and had to be sent back to the manufacturer to be fixed. Display models were used in store as display models. Open box items are generally when a box has been opened to show the product to a customer and when a box gets damaged in transit. The product inside is still brand new and comes with the full three year warranty (or one year warranty – The Source has two different warranty lengths written in different places). The warranty protects you from anything going wrong.

Here is a basic rundown of the monitor’s features. The 22″ TFT LCD screen provides crispt clear images. That screen has a 1680 x 1050 resolution and a 50000:1 contrast resolution. There is a 5 ms response time that will accommodate most movies you throw at it. There are both VGA and DVI (HDCP) Ports on the monitor as well. One reviewer said:

I got this item on sale, great for the price! screen is clear!

I could not exactly price compare this unit as I could not find it elsewhere in Canada. However, I looked at the cheapest 20 – 22″ monitors on Best Buy Canada to get an idea. The only two deals that came close to this were:

  • HP 20″ IPS LED Backlit Monitor (20BW) – $99.99
  • Dell 20″ Widescreen LED Monitor (P2011H) – Refurbished – $99.99

Both the monitors are 2″ smaller than the Acer and both cost an extra $20 premium. In addition, the Dell is a refurbished unit so it is not even new. On Walmart Canada, the cheapest monitor is an Acer K202HQL b 19.5″ LED for $98. Given that the Acer from The Source costs less and is a bigger monitor, I think this deal is hot.

As the Acer monitor retails for over $25, you will receive free shipping to your home. I assume this monitor will set out quickly as The Source often has very low stock on their clearance items.

Newegg Canada: Anker 40W 5-Port USB Charger Only $25 (EXPIRED)

Newegg Canada: Anker 40W 5 Port USB Charger Only $25 (EXPIRED)

Newegg Canada has the best price on the Anker 40W 5-Port Family-Sized Desktop USB Wall Charger. Regularly this USB to wall charger retails for $49.99, but it is now on sale for $19.99 plus $4.99 shipping. Including shipping, the Anker 40W USB charger comes to $24.98 inclusive.

I buy most my Anker products through Amazon Canada because the price is very good for the quality and design. However, this Anker USB charger currently costs $35.99 at Amazon, so you are much better off buying it at Newegg Canada right now. Even with the shipping charge, Newegg’s price is $11 better than Amazon’s price.

I bought this exact USB charger for $30 back in September. It is one of my best-spent $30 in a while. Like most households, we own many electronics.  I have an iPhone, a portable speaker that charges via USB, and an Anker external battery. My partner owns a Samsung Galaxy, a Dell Tablet, and has his own Anker external battery as well. Between us, that is six electronics that charge via USB. With this wall charger, we can charge five at a time without taking up two and a half outlets. Outlets tend to be in short supply in the living room (where we charge our stuff) so the Anker 5-port USB charger is amazing.

I cannot recommend this device enough. If you do not own it – buy it ASAP! You will be surprised how much easier this little box makes your life. Instead of having to keep my computer on to charge some of my electronics without the wall adapter – I just plug everything into the Anker USB charger.

Did I mention that this thing is fast? At 40W, it delivers a great power charge no matter how many electronics you have plugged in. Now, some reviewers report that one or two of their USB ports have gone dead. I have tested all of my ports and they are still working at six months into my purchase. If this does happen to you, Anker has a great one-year warranty to protect your device.

I am a huge fan of Anker products. Not only am I enjoying this amazing USB charger, I also love their external batteries, which I have blogged about before. For my dollar, there is nothing better.
