Tiger Direct Canada: PC Kits on Sale + More Component Deals

Tiger Direct Canada: PC Kits on Sale + More Component Deals

Computers are going to control the world some day. I think we all know this. If you want to get on their good side, learn more about them with a PC kit from Tiger Direct.

Does anyone remember electronics kits? They still exist but I think they were more prevalent “back in the day.” They were kits that came with a bunch of electronic components and gave you instructions on how to make specific circuits. They didn’t help you make anything useful (usually) but they gave you a sense of how electronics worked. I’m sure some of our greatest inventions came from electrical engineers who played with these kits as children.

These PC kits are the same thing. The kits contain everything you need to put a computer together. A case, motherboards, RAM, hard drive, power supply, an optical drive and a processor. The great thing about electronics kits was that they came with everything you need in one box. With these PC kits you no longer need to worry about picking up the wrong part. It makes assembling a computer super easy and I think everyone (especially kids) should do this at least once in their lives!

If you aren’t looking for the whole kit there are tons of other great components on sale!

Check out the component clearance @ TigerDirect.ca now

Did you have an electronics kit as a kid? Any fellow Electrical Engineers out there who were inspired by an electronics kit? Let me know in the comments below!

NewEgg Canada: 8GB of RAM FREE with Select Motherboards

NewEgg Canada: 8GB of RAM FREE with Select Motherboards

Building a computer? Upgrading an existing one? How about some FREE RAM from New Egg Canada?

If you’ve been thinking of uprading a computer or building a new one but you’ve been put off by the cost, this is a great opportunity. The sale includes forty motherboards from manufacturers like Biostar, Gigabyte, MSI and ASRock. The prices also range from $69.99 to $389.99. If you’re already dropping $400 on a motherboard, a saving of $63.99 on the RAM probably isn’t gonna be a big deal. On the other hand, if you’re getting a $70 motherboard though, the $64 RAM deal is almost doubling the value of your purchase! A lot of the motherboards have rebates as well so you could save some money there too.

The RAM you are getting is Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB DDR3 SDRAM. Crucial makes great RAM and, judging from the reviews, this is no different. The RAM has 5 out of 5 eggs. One review on NewEgg.ca simply said “Awesome, incredibly low profile, fits great

Shipping is around $10 depending on which motherboard you get. Some are more around $8 while others are closer to $15.

Have you ever built your own computer? Why or why not? Let us know in the comments below!

NewEgg Canada: 20% Off Select Biostar Motherboards w/ Coupon Code

Posted by on April 6, 2013 at 8:00 PM

NewEgg Canada: 20% Off Select Biostar Motherboards w/ Coupon Code

Building a sweet new system? NewEgg and Bargainmoose have two hookups to get your new motherboard for 20% off!

Click here to get your new Biostar Motherboard @ NewEgg.ca

    • Coupon Code: MBPC44CA
    • Discount: Save 20% on select Biostar Motherboards
    • Expiry: Unknown

There are fifteen motherboards on sale here. These are a few, from the low end to the top of the line and somewhere in between.

Some of these are actually already on sale for up to 34% before the 20% off coupon, so you’re getting a really great deal. One of these even has a $10 rebate available. Shipping on most of these is not free but is cheap, ranging between $7 to $13.

It has been over a decade since I have built a new system. I’ve just been doing laptops for years, and I’ve had no need to go out and build a system. I have frankenstein-ed together systems from old parts but not new ones, which makes me a little sad. One of the great joys in being a computer guy is the satisfaction of picking out your individual parts and putting them together yourself. There is a lot of pride when you do that for the first time and you learn a lot about how computers work. I think that we should make kids learn how to build a computer in middle school just so they have a basic understanding of the things that run the world now. It’s terrifying to me to talk to a twenty year old who doesn’t know how to identify a USB cable or still turns off their computer by pushing the power button.

Since schools don’t teach this to everyone, maybe any parents out there should take this sale as a starting point to teach their kids or themselves a bit more about computers by building their own. There is tons of material out there to help you figure it out!

Dell.ca: Black Friday Deals on Computers & Consumer Electronics!

Posted by on November 23, 2012 at 3:00 PM

Dell.ca: Black Friday Deals on Computers & Consumer Electronics!

Dell Canada is like the WalMart of computers. They’re pretty much the only ones who can bring you prices this low and Black Friday just gives them an excuse to make their usually great deals even better!

Here are a couple of laptops:
And a few items from their consumer electronics section:

Of the past — let me count — six laptops that I’ve owned in my life, five of them have been Dell. There is a reason for that, a few reasons actually. First is the awesome price tags. Like I mentioned, it’s hard to beat their prices. Traditionally I had actually gone with them due to the customization options but it seems as of late they include everything you need in the prepackaged machines.

As far as consumer electronics go, I think I bought my wife’s camera from them once but I’m not 100% sure. I do know that a friend ordered a big screen plasma TV from them at a great price. The quality of the product, of course, isn’t a Dell thing but the price is and they can get some great prices.

Newegg.Ca: 72 Hour Sale With Deals Up To 65% Off

Posted by on January 19, 2012 at 8:00 AM

Newegg.Ca: 72 Hour Sale With Deals Up To 65% Off

Get your electronics fix during the 72 hour sale at Newegg.ca. You’ll find hot deals on ink, monitors, hard drives and more with some up to 65% off.

Some of the deals require their own promo code, so be sure to enter that at checkout. Certain items, like the HP laser printer ship for free, so check for the free shipping label beside each eligible product.

Here are a few of the deals that I spotted in each category:

    Deals Unders $50

    Deals Under $100

    Deals $100 and up

The HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf CE841A#BGJ MFC / All-In-One Up to 19 ppm Monochrome Laser Printer has an average rating of 4/5 eggs. As an all in one printer, it can print, fax and copy, all for $99.99 (reg. $199.99). There is a limit of 5 per customer. One reviewer writes,

I didn’t buy this for faxing purposes (who faxes anymore?), but I’ll give that a shot one day. I haven’t tried the copying yet either. I bought this so that I could print documents remotely and print from my iPhone and iPad (Airprint). I’m happy to say that once the HP ePrintCenter was set up online, everything worked perfectly.

I read on the Newegg site that only e-blast subscribers are allowed to use the promo codes, so if you can’t get them to work, try signing up for Newegg’s newsletter here.
