The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Trilogy On Blu-Ray Was $77 | Now $24.49 (FS @ $25+) @ Amazon Canada

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Trilogy On Blu Ray Was $77 | Now $24.49 (FS @ $25+) @ Amazon Canada

Here is a great way to spend the next rainy weekend day. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo Trilogy extended edition on Blu-ray is on deep discount today on Amazon Canada. This set was $76.99 but is now only $24.49.

If you like crime dramas, mysteries, and fantastic suspenseful movies, you need to own this series created by Stieg Larsson. My friend was really into the books when they first came out on the NY York Times Best Seller List. I remember how excited she was about the movies, and have long had this series on my list to both read and watch. The premise of the story centers around Lisbeth, a computer hacker who teams up with journalist Mikael to unravel a dark family history riddled with secretive acts and murder. This extended edition set also includes both an extra biography about the author, and a documentary about the trilogy. In addition, you will see interviews with all of the cast plus a behind the scenes peek of the fight scene in The Girl Who Plays With Fire.

There is no better time to catch up with this series even if you have seen it before. It was announced that in August a sequel will be released to this trilogy, and a glimpse of the cover art for the 4th book, The Girl In the Spider Web can be seen on CBC News. Catch up or re-watch so you will be ready by the time the new release one is out. Larsson had originally planned to release an additional seven books in the series but died unexpectedly in 2004 before the books were published. Fans of this series are crying for more and will soon get that sequel though I suspect it will never quite live up to the originals. The new book will be written by a new author and include all new content.

Price Comparison

Over at Chapters Indigo, this same Blu-ray extended edition set is selling for $53.89. There is a used copy selling for about $33 that Chapters Indigo is telling me is rare also. You can find the set at Shop.ca on Blu-ray for $61.59. Most of the other retailers I checked had a spotty selection of Blu-rays for this trilogy. Both Walmart and Best Buy only carried the first of the three films on Blu-ray.

Shipping

This Blu-ray set is so close to free shipping it almost hurts. The minimum for free super saver shipping is $25 and this item falls $0.50 short. Luckily for you and I, Amazon Canada has an amazing add-on program. If you search add-on you should be able to see all of the items. I would grab this Dawn Dish Soap for only $1 as my bottle is less than halfway full.

If you are still deciding if you should buy these movies, the first movie carries solid positive reviews on IMBD. Grab your copy now before they are gone! I might make an exception to reading the books first at this price. This would be perfect for date night after the kid goes to bed with my other half.

Amazon Canada: Over 70% Off Earth Series DVD & Blu-Rays (EXPIRED)

Amazon Canada: Over 70% Off Earth Series DVD & Blu Rays (EXPIRED)

Happy Earth Day! To celebrate, Amazon has some fantastic deals on earth-type documentaries and shows, with some of them being over 70% off.

While I’ve only watched a few minutes of some of the Planet Earth series, it has really been on my to-do list to sit down as a family and watch these very important shows. My kids (and I) need to learn about our beautiful earth, so we try to take care of it. I know they would love to see a show such as this, as they love animals and love learning about our world.

The best deal I found during this sale is Planet Earth: The Complete Series (Special Edition) on Blu-ray. It was $99.90 and is now $26.49. With $256 ratings, all of those reviewers can’t be wrong giving it almost five stars. The cheapest I’ve seen it selling elsewhere is $85, which makes this a very kick-butt deal.

The series Life (UK version) looks fascinating as well. Again, this one has a 4.5 star rating. Regularly $74.98 for the DVD version, it is on sale for $29.49. The Blu-ray was $87.48 and is now $24.49. Interesting enough that the blu-ray is cheaper at Amazon, but Walmart sells the DVD for about $70 and the blu-ray version for $94. Again, another priceless deal.

If you like National Geographic, you’ll want to watch The Nature Collection on DVD. This one is $50 off, with a regular price of $69.95 and is on sale for $19.99. Walmart sells this collection for $60, although it is out of stock.

There is a really great selection of videos on DVD and Blu-ray to choose from besides the ones I’ve mentioned. Amazon offers free shipping on orders that are $25+ so you’ll want to ensure your cart is past that total so you don’t pay extra shipping fees. I know I’m going to stock up on a few for those rainy days this summer where we are stuck inside the house or our trailer. At least if we can’t get outside to see nature, we can watch it on our television.

The BBC Natural History Collection On Blu-ray Was $153 | Now $40 & Free Shipping @ Amazon Canada

The BBC Natural History Collection On Blu ray Was $153 | Now $40 & Free Shipping @ Amazon Canada

If you love nature, traveling and seeing the world, you need to check out the BBC Natural History Collection available on blu-ray. This set was $153 but is now only $40 and qualifies for free super saver shipping without any additional purchases. You will save 74%!

Amazon has managed to beat the deal Avigayil blogged about this past November at Best Buy by $15! If you missed it before, you can pick up the amazing BBC Natural History Collection on blu-ray today at a spectacular price. This set includes four stunning documentaries including:

  • Planet Earth
  • Wild China
  • Galapagos
  • Ganges

I have personally seen Planet Earth and Wild China. I loved both of these documentaries. I find one of the best parts is that the shows focus not only on the great animals, plants and diversity of the areas but also on people. Sometimes when you are watching a show like this, it is easy to distance yourself from exotic places that seem far away. By adding the human impact element, BBC has created beautiful documentaries that truly make you consider yourself within the bigger diverse web on earth. The two I have watched were thought provoking and beautiful, and I would watch them repeatedly.

Here is what you will find if you try to buy this series somewhere else.

That Amazon price is looking awesome compared with what else is on the market.

Over on Amazon, reviewers love this series. I see several people mentioning that they are blown away by this series. One person went as far as to note that it was worth buying a home theatre just to watch this beautiful documentary. Fourteen people have rated this collection and it carries a strong five out of five star rating.

If you dig these documentaries, the BBC Natural History Collection 2 is also on sale. This second set was $153.00 but is now on sale for $61.99. Though the discount is not quite as steep, a 59% discount is not too shabby either.

I like to tuck away items like this for just the right celebration. I might keep this series for my husband as a present for Father’s Day. This would also make a lovely Mother’s Day gift or a nice evening in for you and your sweetie. Whatever you choose to do, you need to see this fantastic collection.

Lord of the Rings: Motion Picture Trilogy, Extended Edition, Blu-ray, Was $77 Now $24.99 @ Amazon.ca!

Posted by on April 4, 2015 at 9:56 AM

Lord of the Rings: Motion Picture Trilogy, Extended Edition, Blu ray, Was $77 Now $24.99 @ Amazon.ca!

From time to time we’ll find a hot deal on a popular movie series, and it will just be screaming out to be blogged on Bargainmoose! That’s what I feel about this movie deal today – you can get a superb price on The Lord of the Rings: Motion Picture Trilogy Blu-Ray from Amazon.ca. Originally priced at $76.99, it’s only $24.99 just now!

This particular edition is both the extended edition, and it’s also bi-lingual. So, it’s good for those of you who love The Lord of the Rings, and also the French-speaking moosers.

I think we are all very familiar with Amazon.ca’s shipping policies, but I will make a note in here in case you are not. If you have an Amazon Prime account, then shipping on this item would be free to your home. However, if you’ve just got a regular account, you’ll be disappointed to hear that this item falls $0.01 short of getting free shipping! The free shipping minimum on Amazon.ca is $25. Why not pop a smaller filler item in your cart to take it over the $25 mark?

The last time we wrote about this deal on Amazon.ca was two years ago here, and at that time, the deal was $40. As for prices elsewhere today, most online stores in Canada are selling this DVD set for around the $50 mark, such as at Chapters and Staples. It’s also $24.99 @ HMV.ca – I didn’t even realise that they sold online! However, the Amazon deal is better because of the shipping status – the minimum shipping cost on HMV for a test order to Ontario was coming up at an extra $6.

Needless to say, this is an absolutely fantastic set of movies. I actually own the same editions but on DVD, not on Blu-Ray. Every couple of years, we have a LOTR weekend marathon, watching them all in one go. Lord of the Rings: Motion Picture Trilogy, Extended Edition, Blu ray, Was $77 Now $24.99 @ Amazon.ca!

Some people will only buy their media on Blu-ray now, as our author Avigayil recently commented. She only buys Blu-Rays! For me, I’m still buying both DVDs and Blu-Rays, depending on which media I can find the best deals. How about you? Do you collect Blu-Rays?

Amazon Canada: Interstellar Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital HD Was $43 | Now $17 (FS @ $25) (EXPIRED)

Posted by on April 1, 2015 at 10:30 AM

Amazon Canada: Interstellar Blu Ray/DVD/Digital HD Was $43 | Now $17 (FS @ $25) (EXPIRED)

A movie that’s been getting a lot of buzz lately is Interstellar with Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine. Amazon’s got a really great price on it right now, with the combination blu-ray, DVD and digital HD fetching only $17.24, with a regular price of $42.99.

With the ultimate sci-fi story, time on earth is over and man needs to figure out where they’re now going to live. Of course that means in space. A team of explorers take to looking at the stars and planets for a place to bed down mankind. But, it isn’t as simple as pitching a tent and claiming the space “mine”. In the same fashion of Armageddon, the other save the planet movie of one name with a hot aging leading actor, the main character has to decide between leaving his family or saving the world. That’s a tough choice man.

IMDb gives it a total of 8.8 stars, which is quite a good rating for that site. Since this isn’t a movie I wouldn’t typically want to watch, this review from IMDb has me convinced I should pop a bowl of popcorn and try it out:

‘Interstellar’ was incredible. The visuals, the score, the acting, were all amazing. The plot is definitely one of the most original I’ve seen in a while. Most of the critic reviews have said that some bits are a little too unbelievable, but I have to disagree. Yes, there were some parts that were definitely in the “fi” part of sci-fi. But the thing is, ‘Interstellar’ deals with concepts that we know very little about.

Amazon’s price is the best around, trust me, I looked. Best Buy does sell it as its regular price of $24.99, so Amazon’s regular price is a bit inflated. Walmart sells it for $24.96.

In order to get free shipping on this item from Amazon, you’ll have to get your cart up to $25. You could add the movie The Theory of Everything to your cart, which is said to be a must-see as well, with a regular price of $29.99 and now $22.99, which is also lower than the other stores I checked.

(Save 65%) James Dean Ultimate Collector Blu-Ray Edition Was $99 | Now $35 & Free Shipping @ Amazon.ca (Expired)

(Save 65%) James Dean Ultimate Collector Blu Ray Edition Was $99 | Now $35 & Free Shipping @ Amazon.ca (Expired)

Amazon has a great deal right now on the James Dean Ultimate Collector’s Edition on blu-ray. This set was $99 but you can grab your own copy including all the bonus extras for only $34.99. This item also qualifies for free super saver shipping.

James Dean is an very memorable actor from the 1950’s who tragically only starred in three well known films. His well publicized car accident that led to his immediate death at only 24 years old caused much shock and it only increased his popularity. James Dean is best known for his starring role in the iconic film Rebel Without a Cause. In this film James Dean is a teenager named Jim Stark with a troubled past who moves to a new town.  We follow Jim Stark as he proves himself amongst the kids in town with a bit of sass and bad boy attitude.  That iconic leather jacket, slicked back hair and bad boy swagger only helped cement that both guys and gals wanted to be (or be with!) Jim Stark, the bad boy from the good family.

This memorable set includes all three of Dean’s famous films. You will be able to watch Rebel Without A Cause, East of Eden and Giant all remastered for blu-ray. This set also includes many digital extras. You can watch three full length documentaries about James Dean, his films and his life including James Dean: Sense Memories, James Dean: Forever Young and George Stevens: A Filmmaker’s Journey. There are also seven other available shorter documentaries and featurettes included to give you a more exclusive behind the scenes look at this iconic actor.

If you like collectibles, this set has plenty. You will receive a commemorative book about James Dean  and three movie posters that are mini versions from the original movie posters. Also included are production notes from the films Rebel Without a Cause and East of Eden plus exclusive photos from behind the scenes.

You could pick up this set at Best Buy or Future Shop for $79.99. Walmart has this edition for $80. Archambault has this same set for a whopping $102.99. Your best bet is to pick this up at Amazon today.

There are only three reviews on Amazon. Two are very happy with the purchase, and one who is unhappy with the quality of the blu-ray digital re-mastering techniques. I do find remastering classic films can be tricky. Classic films will never have the same clean crisp images that today’s films have, though blu-ray remastering techniques will improve the image greatly. All three of the reviews are very lengthy and detailed. I have included the shortest review, which also happens to be the review that six Amazon users have marked as helpful.

If you like James Dean, or need a good gift for someone who is a fan now is the time to grab this set. I always have trouble finding gifts for my mom and she loves many of these classic films. I am  considering stashing it away for a surprise gift.

NCIX.com: Sony Wi-Fi 3D 4K Blu-ray Player Now $109 & Free Shipping (Expired)

Posted by on February 22, 2015 at 5:39 PM

NCIX.com: Sony Wi Fi 3D 4K Blu ray Player Now $109 & Free Shipping (Expired)

NCIX.com has discounted the deluxe Sony BDPS6200 4K 3D Blu-Ray Player w/ WiFi from $179.99 down to $109. Use NCIX coupon code ZEROSHIPPING to receive free shipping on the Blu-Ray player as well.

If you are looking for a dedicated Blu-Ray player, then give this fully loaded player your attention. Sony’s Blu-Ray player features a dual-core processor for faster performance. 4K upscaling lets you stream over 200 services and the FULL HD 1080p playback allows 2D to 3D conversion. With Miracast you can mirror your mobile device through the player onto your TV. The player features USB slots so you can view your photos or listen to music through the player as well. You can also stream video, music, and videos with DLNA. Now, if you have other Sony devices, you are in luck. You can “throw” media like music and photos from a Sony Xperia Tablet.

I price compared this unit with other retails, and here is what the competitors are selling the Sony BDPS6200 4K 3D Blu-Ray Player w/ Wi-Fi for:

  • $139.99 @ Future Shop Canada
  • $139.99 @ Best Buy Canada
  • $149.99 @ Sony Store Canada

As you can see, NCIX.com has the best price (though their original price is a bit high). I checked this device out on TrustedReviews where it rates a 9/10. They list the pros as distinctive design, plentiful features, strong pictures, and fast operation. They also mention a few cons, namely plasticky bodywork, no ITV Player or 4OD, and sparse connectivity. They also mentioned a benefit I did not even think about:

One of the main reasons people snap up Blu-ray decks (aside from watching Blu-ray movies) is to take advantage of built-in internet apps, and on that score Sony has long been one of the best in the business.

Sony is certainly one of the forerunners in that game, so this Blu-Ray player looks like a solid investment. With internet connectivity, streaming, 4K, and 3D capabilities – you will certainly have access to all your media in vivid colour with this device.

While the coupon code for free shipping on $50 or more is good until the end of March, I do not know when the Sony Wi-Fi 3D 4K Blu-ray Player will increase in price.

Amazon Canada: Today Only Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy Was $42 | Now $22 (FS @ $25) (EXPIRED)

Amazon Canada: Today Only Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy Was $42 | Now $22 (FS @ $25) (EXPIRED)

With it being so cold out, I bet you, like me, are locked inside your house wishing for things to do. Well, plan for a weekend of dinosaurs after you buy the Jurassic Park ultimate trilogy at Amazon today, with a regular price of $41.99, it is now down to $21.99.

My oldest son is getting to that age where the kids shows on television just don’t cut it for him. I do see him sneak a peek when my youngest is watching Backyardigans, but generally, he is hungering for something more. I watched Jurassic Park as a kid and while it wasn’t my favourite movie, boys do love seeing dinosaurs running around.

It looks like this version gives you blu-ray and DVD, so if you have either, you are in luck. In this version you’ll get Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III. Make a giant bowl of popcorn, get your heated blanket and cuddle up on the couch for a day of Steven Spielberg’s best. I am totally getting this set for my son for the next time I feel like he deserves a gift.

With 114 reviews, almost 100 of them are rated four or five star, with the large majority being a five-star rating.

If you’re a JP fan, this is undoubtedly one of the best investments you’ll ever make. Not only does it include the Collector’s Editions of all three films, but a bonus fourth disc whose material seems to stem from special features that were scrapped for the individual releases.

While shipping is free at Amazon on $25, you’ll fall just a little short of that. I know that Amazon has some add-on items that you could get for another $4 just to get your total up to the amount where you won’t have to pay for shipping. You’d be much better to do that and get a free item, as shipping is about $6 for these discs.

Interestingly enough, Amazon’s regular price of $41.99 is actually low compared to what the competitors price this set at. Check out Best Buy, who sells it for $64.99. Walmart sells it for $59.96.

Amazon Canada: $97 Off Sabrina The Teenage Witch Complete Series Box Set – Now $62 & Free Shipping (EXPIRED)

Amazon Canada: $97 Off Sabrina The Teenage Witch Complete Series Box Set Now $62 & Free Shipping (EXPIRED)

Moosers, don’t you just miss Salem the Cat? I sure do! If you’re in the mood to re-watch the best TV series of all time (okay, I’m slightly exaggerating on that one), then grab the Sabrina the Teenage Witch Complete Series box set while you still can because it’s currently on sale for $62.49 at Amazon. It was originally priced as high as $159.98, which puts it at a 61% discount. Shipping is also free.

A TV series that first aired in 1996, Sabrina the Teenage Witch is an iconic series of the 90’s starring Melissa Joan Hart, Caroline Rhea, Beth Broderick and many other great actors. Here’s what someone had to say about this series:

This show is a classic. Watched it in the 90’s and ordered it for my daughter, she loves it! Highly recommend for good family fun.

The picture quality seems to be somewhat of a hit or miss with reviewers with some praising it as being clear and others stating the following:

The picture quality however is very grainy and is sometimes so bad it’s kind of distracting. The picture quality is the worst I’v ever seen on a dvd.

But I think it’s important to remember that this show is nearly twenty years old and so some graininess is definitely to be expected!

Browsing around Amazon’s TV show section, I also spotted a deal on the Breaking Bad complete series limited edition 2014 barrel. Originally priced at $299.99, it’s now 38% off and can be yours for just $184.99. During Boxing Day, this box set fell in price to just $120, but since there is no guarantee that it will go back to that price any time soon, I thought I would let you Moosers know of the current price drop.

On top of including all of the seasons, it also comes with a 2-hour documentary, a commemorative challenge coin, a Los Pollos Hermano apron and a “Better Call Saul” matchbook 4GB flash drive. Keep in mind that with regards to the flash drive, it comes with a coupon code to use online to unlock special content but although it’s unavailable to Canada, here’s a great tip from a reviewer to view it anyways:

Using a proxy to disguise my location allowed me to enter the code and see the site. There is a photo gallery of “Better Call Saul” & Breaking Bad props and a 4 minute video showing day one of filming at a skateboard park.

Amazon.ca Deal: Blu-rays $9.99 & Under – Buy 3, Get Extra $10 Discount!

Posted by on February 8, 2015 at 7:00 AM

Amazon.ca Deal: Blu rays $9.99 & Under Buy 3, Get Extra $10 Discount!

When I was browsing to see what the deals of the day were on Amazon.ca today, I spotted a little bit at the bottom called Featured Deals in Movies & TV. One such offer said, “Blu-rays $9.99 & Under – Buy 3, Get $10 Off.” I thought I’d check this out as it seemed like a great offer – and it is!

The above link will take you to the selection of Blu-rays that are applicable in this offer on Amazon.ca. There are 83 movies or TV shows to choose from, including a variety of different genres; from comedy to drama to sci-fi. Adding any three to your cart will mean you get an instant discount of $10 as you are going through the checkout. Here’s a screenshot of what you should be seeing at the end of checkout:

Amazon.ca Deal: Blu rays $9.99 & Under Buy 3, Get Extra $10 Discount!

Sadly, the Blu-ray offer isn’t multiplicative – I tested it out to see if you added six items to your cart, if it would give a $20 discount, but that wasn’t the case. It looks like it’s only three per order in this offer.

Titles Available

There are some great titles available in this offer at Amazon.ca, some very popular shows. Here’s a quick list of a few that catch my eye:

I cannot price compare each and every one of the 83 items in this sale, I’ll need you to do your due diligence yourself on this one. If there are shows you are interested in, pop them in to Google.ca and make sure you’re getting the best deal for your bucks. I think that with the additional $10 discount, it WILL work out quite well. Just for an example, say I was to purchase I, Robot for $7, X-Men Origins: Wolverine for $7 and Die Hard for $7. In the end, the final price would be $3.67 per item!

What About Shipping?

Of course, we all know that an order under $25 on Amazon.ca will incur additional shipping fees – you only get free shipping when your order totals $25 or more. If you only choose to buy three Blu-rays, your cart won’t be over that $25 minimum so I would recommend buying something else on Amazon to bring your order up to that level. As you can see on a test order above, shipping on these items alone was about $6… definitely worth ordering something else instead.

Great Scott! Back to the Future: 25th Anniversary Trilogy (Blu-ray) Was $65 Now $19 @ Amazon.ca (EXPIRED)

Posted by on January 1, 2015 at 9:50 AM

Great Scott! Back to the Future: 25th Anniversary Trilogy (Blu ray) Was $65 Now $19 @ Amazon.ca (EXPIRED)

Amazon slashed prices today on the classic Back to the Future 25th Anniversary trilogy. This Blu-ray set was $65 and is now only $19. Free shipping is available if you add another item to your cart to reach the minimum order of $25.

If you are a movie buff, it is a great time to catch up on some of your favourite films. Yesterday alone we saw Dumbo go on deep discount and went quick. Then Redbox is giving you a free rental for new customers. Then we saw the list for the Cineplex Family Favourites on Saturday mornings that looks pretty awesome. Hello Muppets!

Today’s deal is for a movie buff with a little more discriminating taste. This quality film is for a person who has a taste for adventure and bad corny jokes. Back to the Future is on sale in the full Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray and is a great cult classic film. This creative and imaginative comedy will be a great addition to your collection. I personally feel this is also a great movie to share with older kids and teenagers for a fun movie night. It is also a fun movie treat to invite a few friends over to watch and have an 80s themed evening. I can see the theme party now.

I suspect part of the reason this series is on sale today is because of the time travel that runs through the movie and it is New Years after all. Here is the 20-second version of these films. In the first film, Marty (an American teen in the 80’s) travels back in time with the help of Doc to his parents era and changes time including the moment his parents meet. In the second film, Marty McFly and Doc travel forward to 2015 to fix an issue in the future, but discover upon their return someone else has tampered with time. In the third, Marty must travel back into 1885 to rescue Doc from a premature Wild-West themed end. You may notice a few differences from the year 2015 Marty experiences and the one we have now. Most who truly love the films will agree that the first and third films are the highlight of this series.

There are extra special features included with this special edition set. One of the notes that keeps being made is that there is an aspect ratio issue with the original Blu-ray version of this trilogy. They have corrected those issues in this latest edition so you can enjoy the film in its original hilariousness.

Looking at the prices floating around the rest of the web, Amazon has this one hands down.

  • $48.11 @ Staples.ca
  • $48.99 @ Future Shop
  • $49.97 @ Walmart- Regular Edition
  • $51.99 @ Best Buy.ca- Regular Edition

Here is one reviewer who agrees that the whole house including her teenager loved these films despite the middle film not pulling its weight in the series.

I ordered this trilogy set because my teenage daughters had never seen “Back to the Future” and we love Michael J. Fox. He is Canadian, you know!! The whole idea of being able to go back to our parents’ day and even further is so exciting. Now that we live so close to 2015, it is easy to see the writers went a little too far-out in their view of the future and that’s what made the beginning of the 2nd movie a bit disappointing. Having said that, keep watching – it gets better. We absolutely loved this trilogy!

Here is another tip, Bargainmoosers. Since the difference between free shipping on this item is low you may want to check out Amazon’s Add-on program. Items that they would not otherwise be able to ship at a low cost can be added on to your order.  Most of these items are household items available at a great low price and will help you hit the minimum of $25 to qualify for Super Saver Shipping. If you choose not to add something else on to your order, shipping seems minimal. Amazon was quoting me only $2 in shipping to ship to Quebec.

This is another one disc set you may want to grab quickly so you don’t miss out. With over 300 reviews on this item I suspect many people may have their eyes on this disc set.

Bargainmoosers what’s your favourite 80’s film?

The movies are fantastic to own to watch over again and you can with this set. This collection is really all about the special features. It gives Harry Potter fans more insights into the making of the films and an outlet to immersive themselves in all of the amazing details. In reality though I personally feel the storyline is fantastic but it is the details of the Harry Potter world that truly make it magical. They did forget to tell us what Daniel Radcliffe ate every day between takes while the movies were filming so you might perhaps be disappointed if you wanted that level of detail. Seriously it is a detailed special edition.

Fans of the movies and books alike are digging this intensive set and are talking about it. 72 people have taken time out of their day to tell us what they think and it is still at almost 5 stars. Here is one of the best reviews.

This was exactly what I was looking for! I’m a huge fan of the Harry Potter Saga both the books and the movies. I was really interested in how the movies were made and seeing interviews with the cast. This package certainly doesn’t disappoint with hours of back stage stuff from the making of the movie sets, filming scenes and interviews with the cast. Awesome! Highly recommend this collection!

Looking at the competition, no one else really comes close to this amazing deal.

Amazon Canada: The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collector’s Edition Was $110 | Now Only $30 (EXPIRED)

Amazon Canada: The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collectors Edition Was $110 | Now Only $30 (EXPIRED)

Save 73% on The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collector’s Edition on Blu-Ray, now only $30 (was $109.50) @ Amazon.ca plus free shipping. This deal is Amazon’s deal of the day for their Boxing Day Sale.

This set includes three films that chronicles the origins of Batman.  I do not consider myself Comic-con material, but the Batman series is one of my favourite superhero series. To enjoy these films you should enjoy lots of action with a touch of humor at times and the ability to wrap up in a dark brooding super hero character.  Here is a brief overview of the three films for those who do not know much about the legend or series.

The first film “Batman Begins” starts early in Bruce Wayne’s life at the scene of his parent’s murder. This event sparks him at a young age to travel the world seeking to right injustice. Bruce Wayne then later returns to Gotham City to reveal his ultra-ego Batman. He uses his strength, speed and high tech gadgets (thanks to a hefty inheritance!) to fight crime and sinister bad guys.

The second film, “The Dark Knight” picks up where we left off. Batman joins forces with Lt. Jim and the Distract Attorney to wage war on crime in Gotham City. They find themselves caught in The Joker’s tricks, one of the most iconic Batman series villains. Batman must save Gotham City as The Joker attempts to thrust Gotham into his somewhat mad anarchy.

The third film, “The Dark Knight Rises” picks up 8 years later and Batman has vanished. Batman is held responsible for the death of an important character from the second movie and has created a self-imposed exile. His pain is overwhelming and there is lots of suffering and brooding. The combination of two villains threatening the city forces him to put on his cape again and try to save Gotham from a crushing evil.

Special features of this set include:

  • 48 page hardcover book to rehash all the details of the films
  • 5 collectible cards featuring Bane, Harvey Dent, Ra’s al Ghul, Joker and Scarecrow
  • 3 vehicles featuring Tumbler, Bat Pod and Bat Mobile Five
  • Extra special deatures including: The Creation and Impact of The Dark Knight and an exclusive interview with Christopher Nolan and Richard Donner

Let us see how the competition is stacking up for this deal of the day:

  • $54.87@ Walmart.ca
  • $55.99 @ BestBuy.ca
  • $55.99@ Futureshop.ca
  • $82.12 @ Chapters Indigo
  • $89.99 @ London Drugs

Most people who have reviewed this set seem to report they enjoy almost every minute of their purchase. One of the many happy reviewers said:

You get every single film, tons of extras, and a bunch of batmobiles! Perfect for collectors.

Many more reviewers wrote quite a lot about their love for the series and the extras in this set. Overall this blu-ray set seems to be a hit with Batman fans.

Amazon Canada: The Walking Dead Was $160 | Now $50 (EXPIRED)

Amazon Canada: The Walking Dead Was $160 | Now $50 (EXPIRED)

I know so many The Walking Dead fans and it has gotten me intrigued to watch the series myself. This deal is killer and a good time for any fan or person considering becoming a fan to get the series. Get seasons 1 – 3 on blu-ray, plus a t-shirt for only $49.99, with a regular price of $159.99. Also, get the season 4 collector’s edition for only $54.99, with a regular price of $149.99.

The first thing I do before writing a deal for the Moosers is to price compare. A deal is not a deal if other stores have it for the same price or cheaper, even if the inflated regular price says it is hot. But, in this case, Amazon has the cheapest prices.

Consider that Walmart is selling seasons 1-3 with the included t-shirt for $99.99. Future Shop is sold out of those seasons at the $79.99 price point and so is Best Buy.

As for season 4, Future Shop sells it for $89.99 and that’s the only place I could find it. So while Amazon’s regular prices are a bit over the top, they still are by far the best deal on such a hot series.

In fact, just so you know how hot both sets are, the first set is a #1 bestseller in science fiction and fantasy and in shows that start with W, but that’s a bit trivial. It also has fantastic reviews like these ones:

Awesome show!

Lightning quick delivery! Ordered this for my brother’s b-day and he was thoroughly excited about this series so thank you again!

I’m going to vouch for Amazon’s quick delivery. I ordered something on Saturday and got it today, so if you are worried about not getting this before Christmas, I think you will.

Considering that the sets are sold out at Best Buy and Future Shop at a higher price, I’m going to hazard a guess that they will sell out quickly at Amazon as well. They are a lightning deal, so you only have about 13 more hours to shop as well.

Shipping will be free on either set.

Tarantino XX Collection Blu-Ray Was $106 Now $47 & Free Shipping @ Amazon TODAY Only! (EXPIRED)

Tarantino XX Collection Blu Ray Was $106 Now $47 & Free Shipping @ Amazon TODAY Only! (EXPIRED)

There’s a great price on this Tarantino XX collection on Blu-Ray, for today only, online @ Amazon.ca. Originally priced at $105.99, it’s down to $46.99 with free super saver shipping! Get it today though…

The blu-ray set contains 8 movies, I’m just going to list them here for your viewing ease, along with their IMDB scores:

  • Inglorious Basterds – 8.3
  • Pulp Fiction – 9.0
  • Kill Bill 1 & 2 – 8.2 & 8.0
  • Reservoir Dogs – 8.4
  • Jackie Brown – 7.5
  • Death Proof – 7.1
  • True Romance – 8.0

There are some absolute Tarantino classics in there, such as Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. Can you see a trend in the IMDB scores though – they’re all super high! The lowest was Death Proof with a score of 7.1 which I would agree with, I actually didn’t really enjoy that particular movie.

There are also a lot of added features in these discs, such as a “20 Years of Filmmaking” Featurette. I’d be interested to see a few of those.

I did however, LOVE Pulp Fiction. I’ve seen it sooooo many times. Additionally, when I was a teenager, I had a CD of the movie soundtrack, which I would constantly play on repeat. I know all the songs off by heart, and it’s probably one of my favourite movie soundtracks of all time. Whenever I’m out having a few drinks with friends and Son of a Preacher Man comes on, you can often hear me drunkenly bellowing the lyrics. Tarantino XX Collection Blu Ray Was $106 Now $47 & Free Shipping @ Amazon TODAY Only! (EXPIRED) Billy ray was a preacher’s son…

As for prices elsewhere, this particular Tarantino blu-ray box set isn’t sold online at many other Canadian retailers. I did spot it for $75 @ Best Buy though. If you know a fan of Tarantino, this could be an idea for a great Christmas gift. Additionally, there’s an amazing one sheet of the movie here at Allposters.ca. Love it.

What was your favourite Tarantino movie from the above choices?
