Amazon Canada: $70 Off Star Wars The Complete Saga Episodes I-VI Blu-Ray Box Set

Posted by on August 14, 2014 at 10:00 PM

Amazon Canada: $70 Off Star Wars The Complete Saga Episodes I VI Blu Ray Box SetMay the force be with you as you take advantage of an awesome deal on a Star Wars box set. For a limited time, you can save $70 on the Star Wars: The Complete Saga (episodes I-VI) box set in Blu-ray and get it for just $89.99 (reg. $159.99). It comes up to 44% off the original price.

Even better is that this is a Blu-Ray version. Even though technology has widely moved onto Blu-Ray, DVDs are usually the ones being discounted, so it’s nice to see a deal on one of the most popular franchises in the world. When it comes to DVDs or Blu-Rays, I definitely only ever choose Blu-Rays, especially for high action and popular movies.

With a total of nine discs, six of the discs in this box set are:

  • Episode 1: The Phantom Menace
  • Episode 2: Attack of the Clones
  • Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith
  • Episode 4: A New Hope
  • Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back
  • Episode 6: Return of the Jedi

The other three discs features extra and deleted scenes:

  • Star War Archives: episodes 1-3
  • Star Wars Archies: episode 4-6
  • The Star Wars Documentaries

This Blu-Ray had actually been very much anticipated, and has over 150 reviews with a total consensus of 4.4 stars out of 5. Here’s what one reviewer had to say about it:

Star Wars on Blu-ray…it took a lot less time than Star Wars on DVD! And in special features and deleted scenes alone, it was well worth the wait. You can’t do a box set like this without the bonus of unseen footage. The good news is, The Complete Saga is loaded with unseen special features and deleted scenes. In fact, the Tosche Station scene is worth the purchase alone. It’s that great.

I have to admit that even though I’m not the biggest Star Wars fan, I can certainly appreciate a good deal when I see one. However, Star Wars fans should keep in mind the following review:

The original trilogy (without any 1997 added special effects, that is) isn’t there (that was to be expected), but also, the special features of Episodes 4, 5 and 6 (the documentaries, interviews, trailers, etc.) isn’t here anymore. Episodes 1, 2 and 3′s second discs are nowhere to be found either.

Plus, since Amazon typically ships orders over $25 for free, you’re also sure not to pay any added shipping fees.

Staples Canada: LG Smart 3D Blu-ray Player only $79 (Was $139) Today Only (Expired)

Posted by on August 11, 2014 at 1:00 PM

Staples Canada: LG Smart 3D Blu ray Player only $79 (Was $139) Today Only (Expired)

Staples has a hot deal out for today on the LG Smart 2D blu-ray player with wi-fi, which is now only $79 with a regular price of $139.

I think I may be one of the last people in the world to have a blu-ray player. I’m not sure why we haven’t delved into this technology, but I’m thinking now is the time, since this deal makes this blu-ray player under $80 and it will include free shipping. With winter coming living in the snow belt,  I know I’m going to need some movies to watch!

The Specs:

This blu-ray player has built-in wi-fi, 3D blu-ray playing capabilities and you can wirelessly send audio form your TV to your smartphone. Using the remote, you can have access to thousands of movies, apps and more on the web.

The Price:

You know the price, but what does it sell for elsewhere? Dell has it selling for more than Staples’ regular price at $149.99. Walmart, the king of deals, also sells it for more than regular price at $148. Visions has it cheaper than the other competitors at $118.

Reviews:

There are four reviews on the Staples site, which give it a total of four out of five stars. You could also check the Dell and Walmart sites, which have quite a few reviews as well. This one summed up the player for me:

Great picture quality. Love the wireless streaming. Satisfied with purchase.

Another person who wasn’t quite as satisfied said the following:

Overall, I think this player is good option if you need Netflix or 3D.

Shipping:

This item will ship to you for free, so no need to worry about extra fees at checkout, besides the taxes of course.

I wouldn’t wait to get your hands on this, something tells me it will sell out quite quickly and I’ll have a lot of disappointed Moosers sending me comments that it is out of stock.

Amazon Canada: Documentaries Over 50% Off

Posted by on July 14, 2014 at 1:00 PM

Amazon Canada: Documentaries Over 50% Off

If you need something interesting, education and entertaining to watch this summer, why not pop in a documentary? Amazon has their documentaries on sale for over 50% off, so now is the time to get the one you’ve been wanting to watch.

I love watching documentaries because it is like I am being productive while watching television. I can also watch them with my kids, which for certain ones, they’ll like to, so it is something for the whole family.

The best deal of the bunch is on the documentary “Life”, which is basically how we (as living beings) procreate, fend off enemies, nourish ourselves, are born and die. I would find this very interesting and I know my older sons would too. The reviews are fantastic and I can’t imagine how beautiful the images will be. This one sells for a regular price of $87.48, but is on sale for $31.99. I found it at Best Buy for $69.99, which means the Amazon version is almost $40 cheaper!

Although we’ve blogged Planet Earth before, it is totally worth mentioning again, as this is a really hot price. It has a regular price of $99.90, but is on sale for $34.99 with blu-ray discs. Best Buy has this same set on for $79.99.

Not all of the documentaries are on wildlife, as there is also a couple of musical ones, including this One Direction: This is Us documentary. I personally wouldn’t watch this, but if I had a One Direction fan in the house, you know that $10 would be well-spent (regular price $35.99).

Amazon offers free shipping on orders over $25, so if your disc is such a good price like the One Direction one, you might have to get one for a friend, or get another so you don’t have to worry about shipping costs adding to your bill.

Amazon Canada: Movies & TV Shows for $5 or Less

Amazon Canada: Movies & TV Shows for $5 or Less

Amazon Canada has a pretty spectacular deal right now on some of their movies and TV shows DVDs.  You will be able to find a ton of them all for under just $5!

You will find a great mixture of older movies and newer movies and all of them are $5 or less.  There is also a great mixture of movies and TV shows for the young and young at heart.

If you are looking for a great romantic comedy, check out Friends with Benefits that was $14.99 and is now just $5. It has eye candy for the women with Justin Timberlake and for the men with Mila Kunis which makes it a great date night movie.

If you are looking for more of a family movie, I suggest The Princess Bride 20th Anniversary Edition that was $15.58 and is now just $5.  It has humour that is perfect for both young and old making it a great family night movie to watch. It was actually one of my favourite movies growing up and it is one of those movies that I can watch over and over again.

As for some of the TV shows, they are mainly older shows or kids shows.  One of my kids favourite shows called Thomas and Friends: Rescue on the Rails is included and at just $5 now (it was $9.99) it is sure to be a hit with the toddlers. At 50% off the regular price, it is very affordable now!

You will notice that there are more movies than TV shows but with a selection of a few hundred deals to choose from, there is something for everyone.

You will get free shipping when your order is $25 or more.

Amazon Canada: Planet Earth Complete Series Only $30 (was $100)

Amazon Canada: Planet Earth Complete Series Only $30 (was $100)

If you haven’t yet seen the Planet Earth series, you can buy it for only $29.99 at Amazon, was $99.90. I price compared this deal because this seems like quite the discount and found this complete series on blu-ray at Chapters Indigo for $64.99 and Future Shop for $94.99. I found DVD versions were also higher priced.

I have yet to see this series, but I’m considering picking it up for my kids and I to watch. I love it when they watch shows that are educational, plus it will teach them how wonderful and magical this world really is. I don’t have a blu-ray player, so this is a hitch in my plans, but I am on the watch for the DVD version to be cheaper.

This six-disc set is a #1 bestseller at Amazon and it is easy to see why. On top of gorgeous images and video, there is also beautiful orchestral scores so you get the full sensory experiences. Reviewers love this video too and even say you will “feel like you’ve never felt before” watching it. Some reviews did say there was a problem with the content on some discs, but others say this is just how it was filmed.

I love that this set is just over the threshold for free shipping at $25, so you really don’t have to worry about picking something else up to save on shipping. Just purchase and go!

Amazon Canada: Wizard of Oz Anniversary Edition Only $15

Amazon Canada: Wizard of Oz Anniversary Edition Only $15

Get the 75th anniversary edition of the Wizard of Oz on Blu-Ray 3D, Blu-Ray and UltraViolet Bilingual for only $14.99, was $43.99 at Amazon.

There are different versions of the Wizard of Oz’s anniversary edition, one being the collector’s edition, which I blogged about before Christmas. This is not that collection, as it only comes with the discs. I tried to price compare and found the anniversary edition at Walmart for $80! It says it has the same items as the one on Amazon, but the price totally overwhelms me!

If you’ve never seen the Wizard of Oz, all I have to say is, “seriously???”. This movie is the classic of all classics and it was even featured at this year’s Academy Awards, so I know even the youngest of Moosers have heard of it. I saw this movie at least 50 times in my youth and my kids have all seen it too. If I had a blu-ray player, I’d love to get the 3D copy and see all those flying monkeys coming right at me. Ok, maybe I wouldn’t, those monkeys are quite creepy.

As a special feature, your discs will also include a new feature length documentary of the Making of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Almost every one of the 361 reviews of this set on Amazon give it a 5-star rating, and those who don’t, hey, what do they know?

You’ll have to spend a bit more on something else to get your shipping free as it is a $25 threshold.

Amazon Canada: Shameless Seasons 1 & 2 Only $20 (Was $63)

Posted by on February 19, 2014 at 12:30 PM

Amazon Canada: Shameless Seasons 1 & 2 Only $20 (Was $63)

For only $19.99, you can get a Blu-Ray copy of seasons one and two of Shameless. The regular price for this item is $62.48.

I’m excited to blog this deal, as although I can’t get it because I don’t have anything to play Blu-Rays on, I absolutely love this show. If you’ve never seen it, now is your chance to get in a Shameless marathon and pick up the first two seasons very inexpensively.

Shameless is a show that was first started in the U.K., and I believe it is still going there. It did so well they made a U.S. version, which is quite behind the U.K. version. The Gallaghers are a family living in the hood in Chicago with addict parents and six kids. The oldest siblings are doing their best to raise and feed the younger ones, all the while dealing with all of the crap that goes on around addiction, poverty and growing up. It sounds like a sad show, but it is so funny that I guess you’d call it dark humour.

It has some really great actors/actresses in it like William H. Macy and Joan Cusack, but you’ll really love the lesser-know characters. My favourite is Lip, who is really cute in a disheveled sort of way.

Shipping won’t be free unless you spend another $5, so you might as well pick yourself out something else nice.

Amazon Canada: Star Trek Into Darkness Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital for Only $10!

Amazon Canada: Star Trek Into Darkness Blu Ray, DVD and Digital for Only $10!

Go into the Darkness… of…  Star Trek? I dunno, this is falling apart. Whatever, it’s a great movie for $10! Amazon!

I love Star Trek. The Original, Next Generation and all the way to enterprise. I love the movies. The old ones, the new ones. All of it. My dad bought me a toy Tricorder for Christmas once. And a communicator. That was awesome. As much as I love it all, I haven’t seen the latest one.

That’s probably because I’m old and instead of buddies I have a kid and a wife. A wife who would probably jump out of a moving car rather than see a Star Trek movie.

With this deal I have no excuse. $10 to get the Blu-Ray, DVD and digital copy? Awesome. So for the folks out there like me who haven’t gotten a chance, well, here it is. It’s gotten great reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and pretty much everywhere else. I guess it isn’t as good as the previous Star Trek but that’s kind of expected I guess.

I’ve heard people say that Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan is worth seeing the movie for all on it’s own and I believe it. Talent.

Shipping is not free unless you spend $25 and depends on where you are. The movie isn’t prime, either.

Amazon Canada: Indiana Jones Complete Adventure Collection Only $24.99

Today only, get the Indiana Jones Complete Adventure Collection on Blu-Ray for only $24.99, was $105.

If you love Indy and friends, or want to introduce this series to your kids, now is the time with such a great deal at Amazon. I recently let my son watch The Temple of Doom and he was immediately hooked. What kid doesn’t love the crazy adventures Indiana Jones takes and the challenging situations he gets himself out of?

This collection includes:

  • Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • The Temple of Doom
  • The Last Crusade
  • Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

If you haven’t heard of Indiana Jones for some reason, read the summary and the reviews, which are more than enough to tell you how fascinating these movies are. They are classic and even I, who typically doesn’t like this type of flick, will sit and watch them with my kids and husband.

Shipping is free when you spend $25 and since this is $24.99 I would hope that counts!

Cineplex Canada: 50% Off Digital Download Movies, Blu-Ray Or DVD

Posted by on December 20, 2013 at 9:00 PM

Cineplex Canada: 50% Off Digital Download Movies, Blu Ray Or DVD

Snuggle up with a movie for 50% off this Christmas courtesy of Cineplex.

I don’t really watch a lot of movies. The few I do watch are generally older ones like Wayne’s World or So I Married an Axe Murderer. Apparently I have a thing for Mike Myers. Any-who, the one time I am certain to watch a few movies is on cozy winter days inside with my family. There is nothing that I love more than snuggling up all nice and warm with my wife, kid and some junk food in front of a movie. It helps if it’s a blizzard outside, of course and a 50% off movie doesn’t hurt.

These aren’t cheap-o movies, either. Just the top line of the sale has some big name movies:

  • Mon of Steel
  • We’re the Millers
  • Pacific Rim
  • Hangover Part III
  • Great Gatsby
  • Cloud Atlas

I could see them doing 50% off older movies, but these are all fairly new movies, though there are also older ones like Hotel Transylvania, Lord of the Rings and Grown Ups.

You can get scene points for buying or renting these movies, which can add up to get you free movie tickets. Shipping on the physical versions of these is free. Well, it’s free for me.

Costco.ca: Wizard of Oz Collector’s Edition Only $55 (Was $75)

Costco.ca: Wizard of Oz Collectors Edition Only $55 (Was $75)

Costco has the Wizard of Oz 75th anniversary collector’s edition on for $20 off, now only $54.99.

The link above takes you to Costco’s page, just search for Wizard of Oz and you’ll be there. Or click together your ruby slippers to get home.

I have very fond memories of watching The Wizard of Oz at my Nana’s house as a child. I think I’ve watched this movie at least a hundred times. Of course, as soon as my kids were old enough, I watched it with them too and they loved it as well. This movie is utterly timeless. Seventy Five years later, this collector’s edition is out and I think it would make a great gift idea for the movie lover.

It comes with five Blu-rays and DVDs, and although it doesn’t list the other items, it includes:

  • 51-page hardcover photo book
  • Ruby slippers sparkle globe
  • collectible award pin set
  • journal
  • frame-able map of oz

The discs have not only the movie, but so much more including Magic Cloak of Oz silent shorts, a full-length documentary, a Dreamer of Oz TV special, and so much more!

I price compared this set to Best Buy at $89.99 and Amazon for $77.99.

Costco always ships for free. Do you like free shipping? Check out Bargainmoose on Monday December 9th for No Minimum Monday, an incredible event where over 180 retailers will offer free shipping with no minimum spend.

Now that Halloween is over, we can start thinking about Christmas.  We already have lots of snow here in Calgary, and seeing all this white snow makes me want to cuddle under a blanket and start watching Christmas movies.  Amazon Canada has some really great deals on holiday movies as low as just $4.99.

There are a variety of movies that include DVD, Bluray and special multi-disc editions.  There are also a great selection of holiday made-for-TV classics that are great buys as well.

Here are a few of my holiday favorites:

I love buying all my favourites, because Christmas movies are the type of movies that you can watch again and again without getting bored with them.

As for the cost of shipping, all of these movies qualify for free shipping in orders of $25 or more.

Amazon Canada: Breaking Bad The Complete Series Only $210

Amazon Canada: Breaking Bad The Complete Series Only $210

If you have tears in your beer because Breaking Bad is over, I share your pain; however, it doesn’t really have to be over. You can watch it all again. Pre-order the complete series on blu-ray at Amazon, and get it for only $209.99, was $250.99. I couldn’t find this show for pre-order anywhere else, and I’m going to say although this price seems high, it is already a bestseller on Amazon’s list. The price could possibly go up after release. Also, if the price goes down before release, you’ll get the lower price.

If you have never seen Breaking Bad, you have truly missed out on one of the greatest shows I’ve ever watched. You almost have to order this set just to make up for missing it, while you could have watched it on television. Easy synopsis: a high school chemistry teacher is diagnosed with lung cancer and realizes he has no money to leave his family, so he starts making meth. The twists, turns, rushes and anxiety of this show will leave you breathless on many an occasion. In your wildest dreams, you couldn’t imagine where this show would end up.

I think this set would make an amazing gift under the Christmas tree for the Breaking Bad lover or someone who hasn’t seen the show. It has some fun features, too. It comes in a collectible replica money barrel, a 16-page booklet with letter from Vince Gilligan (the creator), a commemorative challenge coin designed by Vince Gilligan,  and a Los Pollos Hermanos apron (you’ll have to watch to find out what that is about). You won’t just get the full series, you’ll also get over 55 hours of special features from all seasons and an all-new two hour documentary.

Shipping is free.
