    Blockbuster: Now 50 – 70% Off

Posted by Avigayil on September 23, 2011 at 10:00 AM

    Blockbuster: Now 50 70% Off

Blockbuster has improved their sale to 50 – 70% off, and if they have stuff your looking for: it is a good time to get it!

I hit up my local Blockbuster 2 days ago and thought the shelves are getting pretty bare, there were still many good finds to be found. I came away with Sleepy Hollow on Blu Ray, The Last Air Bender on Blu Ray (deluxe version with DVD, Blu Ray + Digital Copy) as well as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs game for the PS3 (used). I paid $27 and some change: very good deals!

I was tempted by the Tron PS3 game but don’t know enough about it, and they had Iron Man on Blu Ray as well as a few other movies, but I just didn’t want them enough.

Last night we went to a different Blockbuster and got Kung Fu Panda (Blu Ray) for 50% off. Blockbuster: Now 50 70% Off

    Blockbuster Closing Sale Starts Friday

Posted by Avigayil on September 8, 2011 at 4:30 PM

    Blockbuster Closing Sale Starts Friday

As some of you know, and others will now know: Blockbuster is going under. This Friday, 9th, September 2011, they are starting their big clearance sales to clear out the merchandise.

Here is an exempt I got from the Truro Daily News:

As part of the closure process, Blockbuster Canada Co. will have a final clearance sale for its entire inventory at a significant discount, after which the company’s remaining stores will close. The clearance sales are scheduled to begin on Friday. In connection with the store closures, effective also on Friday, Blockbuster gift cards and loyalty/rewards programs will no longer be redeemed by customers.

What this means for Moosers: Deals on games, movies, TV series and more. Let us know if you hit Blockbuster up and what you get!

Thanks to Mooser rockt who posted this on the community forums, and thanks to Truro Daily News for the quote.

Blockbuster Canada: Store Close Out Specials 50-70% Off

Posted by Jodie on June 12, 2011 at 1:00 PM

Blockbuster Canada: Store Close Out Specials 50 70% Off

With Blockbuster Canada stores set to close by the end of June, they are now offering 50-70% off remaining inventory.

I’ve read that Blockbuster shopper’s weren’t that impressed with the first round of clearance sales (30%). Now that the prices have been slashed even further, I would be tempted to check out my store’s selection. I’m not one for buying DVDs, with the exception of kid’s movies which get watched many, many times over.

The discount is also said to apply non-movie and game items such as candy and toys.

Have any Moosers checked out the store closing deals at Blockbuster? Is it worth the trip?

Blockbuster: Min $8 Value When Trading in Blu Ray & Games

Posted by Avigayil on May 2, 2011 at 8:00 PM

Blockbuster: Min $8 Value When Trading in Blu Ray & Games

Receive a minimum $8 credit when trading in a blu-ray or a PS3, Wii, or Xbox 360 game. See in stores for title eligibility.

You might also want to phone your local store to see if they are participating in this. Though the advertisement does not mention any stores that are excluded, my local Blockbuster said they aren’t doing it. They also said that none in my city were doing it, so I would have to go out to the other towns around to trade-in. The reason they gave was some bylaw which I think is bull because I traded in Blu-Rays at Best Buy no problem.

Deal valid till the 29th, May 2011.

    Blockbuster Trade In Event

    Blockbuster Trade In Event

Time to weed through your DVD collection? Take your old DVDs to Blockbuster and get a $4 credit for every DVD you bring in!

From what I’ve read, the DVD title needs to be in their system, must be scratch free and include the case. Some older titles might only get you $1. Credit can be used to buy anything in store (besides gift cards) or on rentals.

I’ve got stacks of old DVDs, most of them kid’s cartoons, that I’m going to take in. I’ll probably let my kids buy some new DVDs depending on how much the credit is. This is a better price that what I’d get selling them at garage sales!

Blockbuster: Free Mini Posters and iPhone Skin with Pre-Order of Harry Potter

Posted by Avigayil on March 14, 2011 at 9:00 PM

Blockbuster: Free Mini Posters and iPhone Skin with Pre Order of Harry Potter

Pre-Order Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 at Blockbuster and you will receive 2 exclusive mini-posters free. If you pre-order the Blu-Ray combo pack you will also get a free iPhone skin. Pre-order for the DVD is $19.99, and for the Blu-ray combo is $29.99

You can also watch the countdown until the movie is released. I think this is a good deal because an iPhone skin itself usually runs around $20 and with the Blu-ray combo only $29.99… well that is sweet.

    So, who liked this movie?

Blockbuster: Buy 2 Get 1 Free Used Blu-Rays

Posted by Avigayil on February 1, 2011 at 8:00 AM

Blockbuster: Buy 2 Get 1 Free Used Blu Rays

At Blockbuster when you buy any two used Blu-rays valued at $9.99 each or more, you will get one for free. This promotion runs from January 31st to February 27, 2011. You can also buy 2 regular DVDs and get 1 for free on titles $6.99 and up.

You can get some really great used Blu-Rays on the cheap.  I don’t buy used DVDs, but my husband does and it is a good way to save money if you have a large collection. I have a small and very select collection so I like to get new… I’m just odd that way. I think my husband has like 90 used DVDs, most of them from Blockbuster. Now he is upgrading to Blu-Ray.

    Blockbuster Canada: Entertainment Pack

Posted by Avigayil on November 2, 2010 at 2:00 PM

    Blockbuster Canada: Entertainment Pack

This is a cool little pack for movie watching buffs. For $21.99 you can get an entertainment pack for Blockbuster that evidently offers you $485 in savings. That is a lot. I’m not sure what all is in the pack but we do know two things:

    • Free $10 Reloadable Blockbuster Entertainment Card
    • Free 1 Month Blockbuster Favourites Movie Pass

Those two alone are worth close to $20. There are 40 coupons in this book, so a pretty decent grab.

You can check out the deal HERE but it looks like you will need to buy this in store.

Blockbuster Canada: Free Movie Rental (31st + 1st)

Posted by Avigayil on October 30, 2010 at 3:00 PM

Blockbuster Canada: Free Movie Rental (31st + 1st)

Print this coupon and take it in to your local Blockbuster on October 31 and/or November 1 to garnish yourself 1 free movie rental! Will it be a horror? A chick flick? Something animated? Either way, 1 free movie rental is yours!

This may sound weird, but though my parents often rented movies when I was young, I have never rented a movie, and neither has my hublet. Is it a generational thing.. or are we just weird?

Blockbuster: Favourites Monthly Movie Pass for $9.99

Posted by Avigayil on October 5, 2010 at 3:00 PM

Blockbuster: Favourites Monthly Movie Pass for $9.99

I dont know much about this deal but it seems like a decent price if you rent several movies a month. Blockbuster is ovvering a Favourites Movies Pass for only $9.99 a month plus tax. Thanks to Mooser Daniel for sending us this deal!

    The Favourites Movie Pass offers:

    • No due dates
    • No late fees
    • Blu rays included (currently)
    • No long term commitment

I’ve never actually rented a DVD before (I know that sounds weird but I am not really a movie person… if I want to see a movie I will either see it in theatres or buy the DVD) so I’m not sure how it works but I am sure your local Blockbuster can fill you in.

You can check out the promotions link here to see it and other details.

    Fine print (for further details):

Blockbuster Canada Unlimited Game Rentals For $19.99 Per Month

Posted by Anna on August 7, 2010 at 11:00 AM

Blockbuster Canada Unlimited Game Rentals For $19.99 Per Month

Yesterday on the twitter account of Blockbuster Canada, they tweeted a decent offer about their video game rentals.

Normally, it costs $29.99 per month for unlimited game rentals, one game at a time. But they have just reduced it to $19.99 per month! I don’t know if this is a permanent offer… or will just be happening this month. They really don’t have much space to explain in a 140 characters tweet!

I think this is a pretty good idea, especially if you live near a Blockbuster location.

For example, my sister recently bought her son a new playstation 3 game. He had completed the single player content within 24 hours! This BLockbuster game pass would be ideal for them…

You know, it’s absolutely great to see Canadian companies communicating great deals like this directly to their customers, via the medium of Twitter. I set up a list of popular Canadian stores on Twitter, if you’d like to follow it. Sometimes you see good deals in there.

Blockbuster Canada: $50 Discount On Platinum Card Coupon

Posted by Anna on March 25, 2010 at 2:00 PM

Blockbuster Canada: $50 Discount On Platinum Card Coupon

I spotted this printable coupon on Blockbuster Canada’s twitter feed, and thought I would share. It’s for a $50 discount if you are purchasing one of their Blockbuster platinum cards!

I tweeted Blockbuster to see how much the platinum cards actually were in-store, and they replied with the figure $249.99. The printable coupon gets you a $50 discount off that amount (making it $200).

Now, I cannot find a page on the Blockbuster site that adequately explains what the platinum card is, but I’ve googled for a bit of info, and here’s what I’ve found out. The card allows you to make 52 DVD or blu-ray rentals. You don’t have to stick to 1 per week, but you can use the rentals at your leisure. Therefore you are spending $200/52, and it would cost you $3.85 per rental. I think new releases usually cost in the region of $5, so this is a pretty good deal.

Of course, if you are going to actually purchase the platinum card, I would confirm all these features in-store before you buy.

CAVEAT EMPTOR: You are spending $200 on this, so you have to work out if it is really worth it for you. Do you rent quite a lot of movies… would this be a handy option? Plus you could always compare to the likes of Zip.ca online DVD rentals for a price comparison.
